We visited this site over the Easter/Royal Wedding period, and had a wonderful time. Our party consisted of two adults, a 3 year old, and an excitable 2 year-old collie.
We arrived and we given a choice of pitch, along with an extension cable for our hookup as it didn't quite reach. The road in has been described as 'scary', but I didn't think so. If you are competent at reversing with a caravan or trailer you will be fine, as there are a few passing places wide enough for normal sized vans!
Location was brilliant - we booked due to the proximity to Scarborough and it's beaches. With a small child and lively dog we were approx 15mins from fun on the beach, which was great as we were blessed with good weather during our stay.
The site seemed to bear the brunt of a strong North Easterly wind throughout our 5 night stay, but if you are careful with the direction of your pitch this should not be an issue for most tents.
I would describe all facilities on the site as 'good to excellent'. Yes, there is only one toilet in the gents, and yes, there are only two shower rooms, and yes, there are only a couple of sinks for washing up. but if you read reviews before you go to a site, this should not come as a surprise! We went expecting a queue for the shower in the morning. Like all sites, it depends on the time you go. Sometimes we waited, other times we went straight in. If you are impatient and easily annoyed by queuing for anything then this site might not be for you, but we didn't care as we were on holiday - what's the rush!?
The walks from the site were great - I particularly liked the circular route for dog walkers on the field as you enter the farm. It took about 15mins from our pitch, which as a morning/evening walk was great - and I never encountered any other people on this field!
Yes, the site is dark! This is not a big fancy site with roadways and street lights - it is a field on a farm. Take a good torch and you will be fine!
Ken the farmer was brilliant - really friendly, and always out and about cleaning and looking after the guests. We had a great time, and will definitely be back soon!

Just come home yesterday from a great Easter Weekend on this site. We all had a great time, and couldn't fault the site in anyway.
Ken is a really nice man, and very helpful and was always around either cleaning or sorting the horse out.
Our puppy had a lovely time. The weather was great, and had plenty of bbq's, which isn't a problem, and they were bricks around to stand them on, so no damage to the grass.
It was great to get the kids away from the tv and computers for a few day.
The toilets and showers were always very clean.
Also there is a fridge and freezer for everyone to use, which is a bonus, and a tumble dryer. Thanks for a great break Ken
Can't wait to go back.

We've just got back from 4 nights camping (over Easter) from High Yedmandale Farm. What a site - we had a fab time! The weather helped, it was lovely, no rain and lots of sunshine (although it was a bit nippy at night time!)
There are no designated pitches, you just decide for yourself where to pitch - if you have a EHU but aren't near enough to a hook up point, not to worry, Ken has plenty of extension leads which he gladly lends out free of charge.
Apart from the first night the site was full, but even so, it wasn't heaving - there were queues for the showers and washing up areas occasionally, but I think over bank holiday periods you have to expect this.
Ken was lovely, a real character! Our 4 yr old loved Boris the horse too.
The toilets and shower areas are kept really clean, we were up for the loos at 6am some mornings and Ken was already out and about cleaning them. There was plenty of soap and loo roll too. And the hot water was hot! Very hot! There's a fridge, freezer and tumble drier which are all free to use.
Ken now sells eggs from his chickens, I've never tasted better!
There are some lovely walks leading directly from the camp site, and details of other ones you can drive to pinned up in the washing up area.
Even when the camp site was full (which it was for 3 out of the 4 nights we were there) there's no noise at night time - come 9pm all you can hear are the birds (including woodpeckers), the geese (you get used to them!) and the occasional whinny from Boris.
Some people have mentioned the lane leading the the site in their reviews - we didn't find it a problem at all - I think we had to reverse to a passing point 3 times in all the times we went out. Mind you, we weren't towing a caravan, that might have made us think differently!
There's plenty of places to go round and about - we had delicious fish and chips from West Ayton chip shop on Good Friday, and on Easter Sunday we had lunch at the nearby pub (Ye Old Forge Valley?) which was lovely. We also had days out in Scarborough (we used the Park and Ride on the A64) and on the North Yorks Steam Train (Pickering to Whitby)
All in all we had a fab time and will definitely go back

This was our first time at this site and what a lovely little site it is, we had a really nice Easter weekend.
Ken the owner was very helpful nothing was to much trouble for him. The site itself is basic but very friendly and easy going. The kids could go off to see the horse and chickens and I didn't feel worried that they was on there own wondering about the site.
The only downfall was at night it is pitch black on the way to the loos but this was no drama as we just bought a torch to carry with us when we went.
This site also has some breathtaking walks that are right at the end of the site. Very peaceful to have an after tea stroll
We give it a thumbs up and a nice site for all ages, we range from 32, 30, 9 and 4 and we all had a great time

A fab holiday had here at easter time 2011. Clean toilets, nice showers, although only two not a problem. The man was really nice and the eggs were lovely, freshly laid every morning. The horse was friendly and my two loved taking carrots to him,
A well thought out spacious site, tents round the outside so playing in the middle for the children, 3 separate areas to camp it was great.
Not far from the beach in a car, quite a long way up a hill to get to the site, so it would be a long walk to the village if you went for a walk at night.

Just had our second w/end here early in the season its Feb 2011 and its been very wet but the site and the owners are great couldn't ask for a better place to chill out. We have only one small problem we where on hard standing with our caravan and it was still very very muddy and boggy, If Ken was to make any improvements it would be to put lots of bark around the pitches so you were not walking in the mud. But apart from this small problem it was and is a great place to stay. The views are out of this world and Ken is such a friendly guy. The wild life is amazing we saw deer, Pheasants, foxes and dozens of birds. We will for sure be back later in the season. **** site

This is a fantastic site; situated high up amongst farm and woodland, with some good views and excellent walking.
Ken the farmer is exceptionally friendly and likes to generate a relaxed, tranquil atmosphere for his incredibly peaceful site. There is none of the usual checking in on arrival and being put on a pitch, instead the camper pitches up where he wishes and at some point Ken will pop round for a chat and take your fee. Its that sort of place!
Birdlife abounds, encouraged by the multiple feeders and on our visit we saw green and gold finches, robins, nuthatches, tree sparrows, various tits and best of all, a lovely black/white/red woodpecker. In the night meanwhile, a distant owl can be heard in the pitch blackness (bring a torch!).
This is a really special site, but if you want amusements, fish and chips, clubs and shops, go elsewhere. The farm stands at the end of a very narrow 1.7m track and once there, you wouldn't really fancy the return trip for a loaf of bread. Also, there is nothing to amuse but fresh air, wildlife and walking, which suited us, but won't all.
The 2 loos/showers are clean and whilst I can imagine them being over-run in August, there was certainly no problem in November!
All in all, a real 'one off' site and we will definitely return.

If you want peace and quiet,a rural setting with great views over open countryside and you're not bothered about back to basics camping, this is the site for you. We have just spent a 4 night stay at High Yedmandale Farm, and couldn't believe how quiet it was. The owner gave us the option of 4 or 5 places to pitch our tent, then when we had selected one as our electric hook up cable was not quite long enough he lent us an extension lead (no extra charge). He is a really friendly man, and will go out of his way to ensure you have a great stay.
We found the only draw back to be that being around a mile and a half from the village down a narrow farm access road, and the camp not having a shop, you have to make sure you have everything you need when you return to the site. It's a long way back for a pint of milk or a loaf.
All that said, we will no doubt return here when the opportunity arises for another short break.Boris the horse likes Polo mints, and other little treats. The fence around the paddock is electrified, as our dog Brad found out the hard way. Oh how we laughed. There are only two toilets and showers, and only one washing up sink, but we did not have any problems as it was quiet whilst we were there. All that said a site well worth 9 out of ten from us,hoping to get back there in the spring.

Just returned from very relaxing 5 nights at High Yedmandale for a cycling holiday with 14 and 10yr old children.
Location: Had cold feet when we arrived - very long drive up from road (1.7 miles) and almost went somewhere else but are very glad we didn't. Cycled out through the top of the campsite straight into Wykeham Forest - lots of tracks to explore. Managed to cycle to the coast at Cayton Bay - not a special ride, but flattish and only a 15 mile or so round trip. Scarborough to Whitby cycle route a short drive away (we cycled from Burniston to Ravenscar, very gentle incline there - didn't really notice it - and free wheel all the way back!)
Pitches: Pitch where you like around the edge of the field (we didn't have electric hook up) and the middle of the field is free for games. Still plenty of space even when 'full'. The picture we saw on Google earth must have been taken at a relatively busy time.
Facilities: 2 loos + 2 wet rooms (shower + toilet). Despite getting busy at the weekend didn't have to wait for loo. Washing up sink had plenty of hot water when we used. Plug for hairdriers. Not glitzy modern affairs but cleaned daily and kept well.
Nearby: Well stocked Spar shop at East Ayton (2 miles), opposite very good East Ayton chippy.
Not a site for people who need entertaining, but great for those who want to get back to real camping. We are already planning another visit next year!

Had another fantastic time ken has added a fridge, a Freezer there is also a drier for your clothes,
At the moment there is no charge,
Ken is thinking about a washing machine.
I like the space you have between tents ken keeps check on the number of tents for that reason.
My husband takes his model glider and ken lets him fly it in the next field.
If there are children there at the time he will get them coming to look at the planes,
And he will fly it for them,They love it,
When I think how it has changed since we started going there all for the better( 8 to 10 years)ago,
Hope we will still be going in another 10 years.
