Just back from a superb 10 days at long meadow. The site is, as others have mentioned, just a large field with some portaloos and showers.
It is however one of the best sites we have stayed at.
The facilities are always clean and spotless and hot water is in abundance for showers. I even had a visit whilst shaving from the female site owner as she made sure everything was topped up. Another reviewer complained about a male in the womans toilets so had to put it in perspective, they only go in because they care about it being clean at all times! They are so friendly how could anyone be bothered?
Several washing up points are dotted around the showers and loos.
So what makes this site so good ? Well the owners are spot on in their approach to running it. They value quality over greed. Often while passing by we would stop for a natter and they would tell us how many are going and arriving and that they are going to be full.
Their idea of full is unlike any other site we have been to. Instead of cramming in as many units as possible the field is always left with large spaces where certain pitches arent filled as they let the grass recover.
They could easily fit another 30-40 units in but they choose not to making it such a good site because of all the available space.
10m by 10m pitches with even more space around to park in etc are pure heaven.
Our kids loved this site because we could let them roam around on their own and they made lots of new friends in no time. The site owners even turn away any groups that look like they may be antisocial even if it upsets them making it brilliant for those staying on the site.
The field full off stags that venture in at night to have a roam about it is something special to witness. Watching the stars and the international space station as it passed overhead was something amazing too.
The accessibility to the forest and its cycle routes are literally just out of a gate. Rope swings dotted around in the woods over streams with no 'elf and safety' spoilers just add to the adventure for the kids. Our 4 year old actually had the holiday blues coming home from this site as he was missing the swings within 15 minutes of the journey home !
Another point worth noting is there were a lot of short stayers and people touring. These included motorcyclists, foreign visitors and even young couples. The mix of people the site attracts is great and a credit to its owners.
All was quiet at 11pm with perhaps only the odd bit of laughter from the people who arrived that day. Never anything to complain about.
Well done long meadow, don't change a thing, your site is perfect as it is now.

We stayed at this campsite for a week. The Wardens/Owners are very very friendly and welcoming. They helped us with ideas where to go for daytrips, provided us with leaflets. We couldn't get a electric pitch for a week in August (there doesn't seem to be many electric pitches in the New Forest) but they kindly offered for us to charge up our laptop in their office so our boys could watch a film at night.
The campsite is very open with lots of space surrounded by trees and a great place very close in the woods for the kids to play in a stream with swinging ropes. Lots of people were there playing.
The toilets/showers/washing area was great and clean. Cannot fault it at all. Never had to queue. A big improvement on the previous campsite we'd stayed.
The Owners tell you about walks to the nearest towns, these were very good and pretty, just lengthy. Really recommend taking your own bikes. We failed to. You can hire bikes but they are not cheap.

If you had to summarise this camp site you would say that it is an open field with Portable cabins for toilets and showers with stand pipes thrown in for good measure.
But Long Meadow campsite has sooooooo much more to offer.
Yes the facilities are all in portable cabins but they are kept spotless in fact it was one of the cleanest facilities I have seen. Its not worth going into too much detail about the facilities as if have understood it correctly the campsite is shutting at the end of the season to have new facilities built.
For us as a family with a 8 year old the location was perfect. Even though there was not a play area for children there was plenty of space to keep them occupied and the highlight for ours was the beautiful stream at the end of the campsite which had rope swings attached to the overhanging trees.
The pitches were a good size 10m x 10m and then space left for fire precautions making it feel very spacious indeed. They were marked out by means of a stone in the ground with the pitch number painted on it.
The highlight for us was the Deer who after midnight would come into the camping field and graze around the pitched tents and this for the majority of the campers there was the main talking point throughout the day. On the last night we and several other campers stayed up to watch the deer who at one point came within 10-12 feet of us.
This site is a credit to Alan and his wife who's knowledge of the area and the local wildlife was fantastic. They worked continuously to make this site perfect and they are the kind of people that you feel you have known for years despite just meeting them.
As a general round up Long Meadow is a peaceful site full of wildlife and is ideal for people with children due to the amount of space for them to play. It's clean and makes you feel like you are in the country despite Brockenhurst only being a 30 – 40 minute walk through the woods and heathland. We just can't wait to return.

On arriving we were shown to our large pitch and told where the sun rose and set and where all facilities were.
The whole site is very well looked after. The access to the forest is in the corner of the field and has a lovely stream with a small foot bridge over it and rope swings for the kids to play on.
The only downside is no play ground for the kids but they soon make friends and entertain them selves
The wardens are friendly and very helpful.
Hope to go back soon.

We arrived in what must have been just about the wettest time possible, having already been told by the wardens the day before setting off that if we wanted to cancel we could.
So glad that we didn't though. It meant there were very few caravans there, so our view of the beautiful Forest and the herds of deer were outstanding! The toilet block and showers at first glance looked pretty basic as they were in portable cabins. Just shows you should never judge a book by its' cover as they were spotlessly clean and more than adequate.
Too many places of interest to list them all but two of the highlights had to be the fact that you could walk to Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst from the site. Through the beautiful Forest and when you go to Brockenhurst over heathland too. Everything was in easy distance if you wanted to eat out, have a takeaway, top up on milk etc.
The wardens couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful, they were absolutely lovely.
We will definitely come back to this site and would recommend it to anyone.

This is our third visit here and we will be returning next year. The site is a large field with toilet and shower blocks which are always clean and fresh.
There are 3 washing up points that were again always clean and tidy and plenty of fresh water points around the field. You can exit the field on foot at far end and this takes you straight in to the forest, leading to a stream with rope swing which my children loved.
The campsite was well run by friendly couple who were very helpful in making our stay a really good one.
This is a really lovely peaceful place to spend some time away from the bustle of every day life.

This is what campsites should be like, great couple who run it, back to nature with surroundings, no pretences, good old fashioned camping, anyone who could find something wrong here, go to Butlins instead.
Toilets and showers are fine and are being updated this year,
Alan and his wife are so helpful, nothing too much trouble, great site, we will be going back for running and biking without a doubt.

Our first time at this site and thought it was super.
The location is amazing - leave the campsite gates straight into the forest where you can cycle a couple of miles down to Brockenhurst. Fab.
It was busy at half term, but still plenty of room to throw a ball. The facilities were clean and well kept.
The campsite owners were friendly and helpful with lots of knowledge of the local area. We will be coming back here.

We have just returned from a week at this lovely campsite. We were quickly shown where our pitch was, which was a decent size, with plenty of room our large tent and event shelter.
We had our two dogs with us, their first camping trip, and they had a marvellous time. There was a rule that all dogs should be on a lead at all times on the site, which most people observed! but since it was a short walk to the gate to the forest where they could run free, it was not an issue.
The forest nearby was beautiful, the stream running through was lovely, winding its way through and we spent many a happy hour wandering admiring the scenery. The dogs loved the water, rushing in and out and swimming.
The rule was needed as there were herds of deer, which at different times of day were roaming the campsite. They were lovely to see as they were not intrusive, but kept their distance.
All the other campers, not so many as the weather was windy, rainy and sunny throughout the week!, were very friendly and the whole camp-site had a very relaxed atmosphere.
The facilities were warm and always very clean, although in portable cabins, but are due to be totally rebuilt over the winter, so next year should be splendid. There will also be a large increase in the number of EHU pitches.
The wardens were marvellous, very helpful and available for information about the local area.
We hope to return for another visit as soon as possible.

We stayed here for 2 nights in early June. As it was the weekend after the bank holiday the campsite was fairly empty, with just a few tents and vans scattered around. We think the rangers allocated sites to give good spacing to everyone as it was easy to feel like we were the only ones there.
Rangers were friendly and welcoming and the pitches are a generous size so even if the site were busy I don't think it would feel crowded.
The spot is really lovely, on the edge of an open field which was filled with deer while we were there. There's a gate at the back of the site leading into the forest and there are cycling and walking trails right from the campsite.
We didn't get a chance to explore the river this time as we were only there for two nights. It's also nice and close to Brockenhurst and you can find all the basics there. We were also delighted to see the traffic stop in the main street of Brockenhurst to allow a herd of New Forest ponies to pass through - our 2 year old loved it!
The facilities were clean and well stocked with toilet paper. The showers are a little small and are all designated by sex so there were no family showers. This isn't a complaint, just an observation as we have two very small children and it's much easier to get everyone clean if we can go into a stall as a family.
A great site and we had a lovely experience there. We'll definitely be back.
