This is a basic large field laid out into pitches, the welcome from the owners is great, they are lovely people. Each pitch is very generous, we have quite a large tent Vango Diablo 600 and there was a lot of space left after putting it up for the kids to play football, baseball etc. The space gave you a feeling of privacy even without hedges etc.
Toilets were kept clean and tidy, it was dry when we were there so no evidence of mud etc. Showers were also clean, only 4 ladies and 4 mens though so choose your timings, the first morning there was a fair queue but not the next 2 days. Site was not even half full so could be long waits if it was full, hubby had no queues at all though - what does that say about the men?!
There is a stream for the kids to paddle in a couple of hundred metres into the woods, ours loved it as did all the others who were there, it is on the path into Brockenhurst so easy to find, although if you didn't want your kids paddling it isn't so easy to avoid!
Brockenhurst was easy to get to although we cycled rather than walked, and had adequate shops in the centre, there is also a Spar off the main road in which again would be cycleable but maybe not walkable as no paths. Access to paths/cycle trails was excellent.
We had no issues with noise which was surprising as there were a number of obvious groups camping together.
Our only grumble was the traffic getting out - this is nothing to do with the campsite however and would be the same anywhere in the New Forest, why the left hand filter cannot stay on permanently in Lyndhusrt is beyond me - it took us an hour to get past Lyndhusrt (about 3.5 miles) on our way home.

What a lovely site! Alan and his wife are really lovely people, we had to arrive later than the scheduled arrival time because of a funeral and they could not have been more accommodating or helpful. They are very knowledgeable about the area. The office also provides a free freezer for icepacks and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them.
The site itself is a large field divided into 100 pitches, each 10m x 10m, so loads of room for car, tent etc. There are a few EHU pitches but they are around 2 sides of the field, the vast majority of the pitches are in the middle of the field.
As you approach the campsite you pass a hotel and livery stables on a gravel path, which continues into the field on the right hand side. The bins, waste disposal area, wardens office, showers, loos and washing up facilities are all here to the right of the path. The path then continues to the end of the field, where there's a gate that opens onto a footpath to the forest - within 30 seconds you are on a marked cycle / footpath or can go 'offroad' into the woods themselves, where there are a couple of rough rope swings for kids (and adults!) to play on.
The facilities are excellent - loads of (free) hot water, the loos and shower blocks (in portable cabins) were really warm and kept very, very clean - on a practical note there are 2 hooks in each shower cubicle (double-curtained rather than doors), a mop to clear up after yourself, and (again, free) hairdryers in the shower block and the main ladies loo block, which was a lovely bonus. There are 3 washing up sinks, one inside in the large loo block and two outside but covered over. I didn't have to queue while I was there despite the campsite being full.
There are water taps in every row of pitches, which was very handy. Campfires not allowed, but we (and others) had brought raised firepits and these were great for toasting those marshmallows!
Despite the campsite being full over the bank holiday, there was plenty of room for children to play and the no noise after 10(ish) was adhered to by most if not all the campers - it was all quiet by 11.
The site is about a 30 min walk (with a 6 year old) into Brockenhurst, through the forest and then across a heath - not something I'd do in the dark, but during the day it was a nice walk and we saw loads of ponies and deer. Brockenhurst is a lovely village, lots of pubs, cafes, takeaways, restaurants, a bike hire place, an amazing local butchers (great for a bbq!) and a great bakers.
There's also a Tesco Express which was constantly mobbed, and a NISA general store which wasn't, but had an extensive range of camping spares and equipment as well as all the food/drink you could ask for, with very helpful and pleasant owners.
Lyndhurst is a 5 min drive away (unless you're leaving on a Bank Holiday Monday in which case it will take you an hour to get there) and has a visitor centre with lots of info/activities/walks and all the teashops, pubs and chi-chi bunting/cushion/candle type shops you could shake a stick at. Also a serious camping shop that's set back off the main road, just in case your tent gets blown away(it was very windy)!
We hired bikes in advance through Trax, they delivered them to the site in the morning with helmets and a backpack containing maps and repair equipment. Alan recommended the route to Bank (as we hadn't cycled in years - it's downhill all the way home!) and we stopped for lunch at The Oak - I have to say, I wasn't massively impressed with the food there; it's a very pretty pub, the ale is kept well, the garden is lovely (albeit crammed out with tables) but my meal definitely came straight out of the freezer (possibly via Iceland?) and for the upmarket London prices they were charging, it really was a rip off. I think if we'd stuck to the sandwiches we'd have been happier, they looked much better value and home made! Plus the pub was HEAVING (it was the Bank Holiday Sunday so I shouldn't really complain) and it wasn't a relaxing lunch when people are constantly hovering over your table waiting for you to leave.
NB, The Oak does not allow children under 14 in the bar after 6pm so not a place for a family evening meal!
Lymington, about 10 mins drive the other direction, has the usual chain shops and restaurants and the IOW ferry.
There's a bus stop directly outside the campsite (but it's a walk down the long drive past the hotel etc from there) going to Lymington, Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Southampton - the last bus is 5.30pm and there are 2 buses an hour.
We would definitely come back again, my daughter loved messing about in the woods and stream (great bridge for Poohsticks), cycling, sitting out on Sunday evening with the campfire going, looking at the stars - magical.

What a great site, this was our first visit but it won't be our last. We wanted somewhere local so we could try out our new tent.
The pitches are huge and very generous in their size, even though it was quite busy (bank holiday weekend) it never felt crowded and certainly wasn't noisy.
The forest access is excellent, we walked to Brockenhurst across the forest which was a lovely walk, took about 40 minutes. We didn't take bikes but it's a great spot for cycling, and you could go for miles.
The facilities are impressive, though just porta cabins, but they were clean at all times and the showers were lovely and hot. In fact the warden checks them at least every hour. Washing up sinks are good, there are 3. Had to queue at times but not a problem.
The couple running the site are very helpful, friendly and certainly know the area.
It's very child friendly and was lovely to see the children enjoying the forest, just out the back is a stream with a bridge which was perfect for playing 'pooh' sticks with my 5 year old!
It's worth mentioning that a windbreak is essential here, we didn't have one so had to pop out to get one.
Overall this is a great site within the heart of the New Forest which is an excellent base to cycle or walk and explore the forest.

This is an absolutely brilliant site. Well situated a half hour walk from well stocked friendly Brockenhurst it suits walkers cycles and motorists alike.
The showers and toilets were top of the range, and the campsite is generally well run and ordered by a very friendly couple.
Plenty of pubs nearby and direct access onto the best parts of the new forest. Highly recommended.
No sign of ticks, though we did see deer cross the site!

Went with sister and 3 children( one only 11 weeks old) best easter hol in a while.
Pitches are generous and grassy. Nice area kept for playing! The toilets / showers are clean and water hot.
Very good for cycling all over the forest, and Brockenhurst just minutes away through the park.
Have watched this site grow over the years and its nice to be able to say, it's still the same friendly place as all ways.

Have to say, a gem of a sight. Although I am tempted to say otherwise, just to ensure not too many people try it for themselves!
Showers, loos are portacabins, cubicles are small, but they do their job. You pay for location and space here. A shortish walk through the forest to either Brockenhurst or Lyndhurst, shops a plenty!
Excellent site to bring the dog ours was exhausted after 3 days of running through the forest and glad to get home I think!
We will be back for definite, although the time of year we went, a hard standing would have been useful as it was a bit muddy as you can expect.

Fantastic site, everyone helpful and friendly, went with my son(10), my sister and her niece(10). My sister is a housework freak so doesn't do camping, but she loved this site. Kids loved messing about in the stream in the woods,we were pitched in the middle of the field but could still hear them. It was great letting them go a be kids with all the others. Must be good as my sister has asked me to book it again this year!

Fantastic site! Agree with other reviewers this site is a real gem and I worry about raving too much in case too many go and I can't get in again. The proximity of the deer is a real treat and we didn't find ticks a problem.
The facilities are clean and good although they are porta cabins. There was never a queuing problem with the showers even though we were there right in the middle of the school holidays. The pitches are large and all tents well spaced. The wardens were very helpful and happily took freezer blocks for freezing. We didn't find the shops in Brockenhurst particularly expensive but did tend to use the Tesco Express mainly.
The stars at night were amazing as the site is a long way from any street lights. No noise apart from owls, grazing deers and foxes - perfect. Will definitely be back!

Huge pitches, plenty of space between pitches. We used EHU so was around the edge of the site under a huge oak tree (take extra tent pegs as we bent all of ours!). Very peaceful, beautiful surroundings. Showers- temperature individually controlled and very powerful, was disappointed to find shower curtains and no door to shower cubicle, not very private. Toilets basic but clean, always stocked with toilet roll/soap. Shops around area are fairly expensive however there is a Tesco express a short drive away. Didn't see any deer on site however lots of fresh droppings in the mornings so they had obviously been on site!
Bad point: Ticks. I know this is the countryside therefore increased risk etc, however my children and at least 6 others were covered in them. Due to this I wouldn't go back to this site, nothing against the site as the warden was lovely however obviously the deer that frequent the site are bringing ticks in with them.

All pitches are a good size & marked. Electric hook up's are around the edges & non-electric through out the field. The allocations worked fairly well, we didn't have anybody pitch directly next to us on any of the 4 sides until the last couple of days. Showers/toilets always clean - but closed at 12pm for cleaning - we tried to wash up one day at this time & had no hot water! We were told that pitching is between 1pm & 8pm so decided to go the night before rather than lose a day getting organised. Only to find other people were pitching up in the mornings whilst we were there, which was annoying as we would have rather pitched up in the morning. Friendly wardens, freezer in office to freeze your iceblocks. Even though it rained, the ground was still solid. Nice, quiet, easy going site
