This was our first camping trip as a family so we were slightly apprehensive about the whole thing.

However it turned out to be a fantastic break. Long Meadow is a perfect spot for families, as there's lots of space, it's very quiet and there's a little network of shallow streams and islands in the forest about five minutes walk away which kept the kids amused for hours.

The toilets and free showers were spotless at all times, and there was no noise at all after about 10.30pm.

The village of Brockenhurst (pub, Tesco, etc) is within walking distance (toddlers might need a pushchair as it was a bit of a walk) so we didn't use the car the whole weekend.

The owner was really friendly and helpful, and at £30 for two nights I thought it was quite reasonable. Thoroughly recommended!

Came across this site online after what felt like ages looking and only finding fully booked sites. So glad they were all booked, we had a lovely time here. Basic (ie a field, plenty of water points, some toilets, showers, two wash up sinks, bricks to put the bbq on and bins) but clean, spacious, quiet and friendly. And the showers are really good!

A great place to take your bikes, especially if you have kids. A lovely trail straight from the site into the forest. Hook up sites are £5 more, but you get the shade of the trees on one side of the field and at £20 a night they are def worth it; it was a hot weekend for us and in the field there is no shade. However you can escape into the cool of the forest very easily.

Will be back for sure.

This was our first stay at Long Meadow and I can thoroughly recommend it. We stayed for seven days at the beginning of the summer season before the kids broke up for the holidays.

The site was very quiet during the week but the man on reception warned us that it would get very busy at the weekend and he was right, it went from 4 or 5 tents on the Thursday to near on 30 by lights out on the Friday! However, it never felt crowded and no-one made a huge amount of noise because of the 11pm noise curfew

The owners/staff are all really friendly. We had a little problem finding the correct pitch as we arrived after the reception had closed (we had called ahead and they said this was fine). They put up our pitch number on the door but we didn’t read the map right so we pitched temporarily for the night and moved the next day after the really friendly guy in reception showed us our pitch; not the sites fault but not a promising start for us. However it improved considerably after this.

The site is laid out as a huge field with a gravel road running from the gate past the showers/toilets on one edge of the field and then running the length of the field and then at right angles to the other side of the field. The EHU pitches also follow this line and then the non-EHU pitches are in rows across the bulk of the field.

The pitch was good but stony as we were on an EHU pitch around the edge of the field. There was plenty of room to pitch our five man tent and park the car. The field appears to drain well but it didn’t rain while we were there, the field is kept well mown on the pitches and paths but longer grass in between, it is also completely flat, so no sliding down your tent through the night!

The real reason to visit this site is the fact that it is in the heart of the New Forest. You go out of the back gate and you are instantly in the forest with a choice of cycle paths that lead eventually to Brockenhurst or Lyndhurst. The reception has plenty of info on the cycle routes and places to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our rides around the forest and visiting the nearby towns.

The site itself has all the usual facilities; two clean shower blocks with ample free showers and hot water (I never had to queue even when the site was jam packed), several clean toilet blocks, one covered and one exposed washing up area and the reception had a freezer for ice packs (no charge!). The nearest supermarket is a well stocked Tesco express in Brockenhurst a five minute drive away. There are also plenty of decent pubs close by that serve good food. The guy on reception was happy to offer suggestions/recommendations when we asked.

Overall if you are looking for a basic, clean, well run site in the middle of the New Forest, you’d be hard pushed to find better.

Visited this site with our 3 year old. Initially thought it was just a big field (which it obviously was!), but the toilet, showers and washing up facilities were excellent and always clean with hot water at no extra cost.

At £15 per night, it was good value for money. A really beautiful location, a huge pitch, very relaxing, not busy. Our son loved it, lots of room for football, kite flying and running round.

Not for those who like a busy camp site as there was no pool, club or shop. The reception staff were extremely friendly, will definitely visit again and hope to have another visit from the local deer population.

We have just spent 11 nights on this wonderful site. With an electric hook-up we had all the comforts of home and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

The woodland walk just behind the site was a hit with the dog, which had been made very welcome, as was the river where she took her first swim.

It was so lovely to be able to sit by our unit and have a herd of deer only 30 feet away, not tame but used to people.

Thank you also to Alan and Ellen who kept the site and facilities beautifully and were always on hand to give advice on places to visit and eat locally. Also having brought the dog with us it was helpful to know where we would be welcome with her.

This is a most excellent location and we will be returning.

Had a fantastic week at Long Meadow. The drive in is dilapidated - but these buildings are NOT part of the site.

The site is basically one field with some portaloos (nice and clean) at the top. There are some washing up facilities and the showers have decking to stop feet getting wet after the shower!

The wardens were great and had lots of advice on best routes to Brockenhurst etc. You can hire bikes from the site and they will be delivered to you. There are lots of bike routes leading directly from the site to both Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst.

Kids loved the freedom and playing in the stream nearby. This is a fairly unbeatable site in terms of back-to-basics camping. We will definitely return!

This was only our second trip with our caravan, and our first with the children. We received a very warm welcome from the wardens - even before we had arrived, when booking over the phone.

The pitch, with EHU, was huge (10m x 10m). The site was extremely well kept, and the showers and toilets were spotless throughout our weekend stay.

A lovely position and completely unspoilt site: the children and dog just took themselves off to play in the New Forest. Would thoroughly recommend and will visit again.

This is a very basic but no less perfectly adequate site.

The site is spotless although the grass really did need a mow.

It wasn't crowded and it was ever so peaceful. From inside our tent we could have imagined we were on our own.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and seemed to love our dog more than we do.

Showers were clean and water was hot although the dressing area was basically common so not good if you are modest. Toilets were spotless and well maintained. Despite the constant rain the floors were ever only muddy for a brief period (less than 15 minutes) before they were cleaned again.

There were occasional queues for the indoor washing up but I suspect this was only because of the relentless rain.

There were deer in the adjacent pasture on every morning we were there. And we entertained ourselves during the day with all the wonders of the New Forest.

It was cool (May Bank Holiday) when we were there but I imagine it can get quite hot in the summer if you are camped in the middle of the field with trees only along the edges.

There is no shop and the drive into the nearest town (too far to walk and dangerous with young children)is bothersome particularly since parking can be a challenge. Also, there isn't a pub anyway within walking distance.

There is no child play area but this didn't really matter as there was loads of space for the children to run around and play games safely

I and a group of my friends (6 of us in total, all couples and all young professionals aged 23) wanted to go camping.

I stumbled across Long Meadow online, and when I rang the Warden, Alan was incredibly friendly, and said although the campsite was normally a family one, as long as people were prepared to behave considerately and respectfully and to keep the noise down after 11pm they welcomed everyone.

The campsite was also excellent value for money, we stayed the weekend after the May bank holiday, and it was still only £20 per pitch, which included one car, 2 people and 1 tent.

Alan gave excellent directions to find the site, and we had no problems getting there. Upon check in, Alan (and I think his wife, and maybe daughter) greeted us in a friendly and helpful manner, and even showed us where we could borrow some bricks to stand our BBQs on.

The campsite, was fairly busy, but the pitches were so large, it gave you a sense of privacy and space still.

The facilities were excellent, the toilets were always clean and warm and same for the shower rooms. Although the showers were busy at the times you would expect, especially early evening with everyone getting their little ones washed and dressed for bed, I never had to wait for a shower for the whole weekend. Also there were water pumps scattered amongst the tent pitches, and although I wouldn't have wanted one directly on our pitch, it was incredibly handy having one on the pitch next door!

The campsite was about a 25min walk from Brockenhurst through the new forest, and it cost us around £7 to get a taxi from the station back to the campsite.

During our stay one of our group lost his wallet which had £75 in, and the Warden returned it to us the next day. Someone had found it and handed it in with all the money still in it. Shows the type of nice, friendly and honest people this campsite attracts. We had no problems with noise during our stay.

Overall this is probably the best New Forest campsite I've stayed on. The owners are friendly and reasonable with rules and expectations of guests behaviour, the pitches are fantastically good value compared to other campsites- like the Forestry Commission ones, and the facilities were everything you could want! Plus the site is within walking distance to a town, which had some nice pubs and restaurants.

This was our first ever camping trip with our daughter (aged 3+) and I will definitely go back. If you want somewhere quiet in the New Forest give it a visit. We were given a choice of pitches. All are very spacious. Given a welcome leaflet with local info and made very welcome.

Toilets and showers are very clean (all the time) the showers are fantastic. Powerful and lovely and hot. The site wasn't very busy, maybe a dozen tents / caravans etc but very quiet and relaxing. The deer came into the site in the evening to graze.A lovely sight.

I could not fault this site and we will definitely go back. 10/10
