Just returned from a long weekend on this site. Friendly greeting from lady warden on arrival. Spotless loos etc. Beautiful surroundings. Quiet. Felt like David Attenbourgh watching the deer just yards from our van. Fascinating. Just sorry we had to leave.
We walked to Brockenhurst a couple of times easily and found the walk and the little town a delight. New forest ponies were in abundance.

Stayed here for a weekend at the beginning of October, in an unprecedented heatwave, and was very happily surprised. The camping field is huge, which can mean for quite a walk to the toilet blocks, but I guess that's the price you pay for a bit of isolation from other campers.
Despite the 'marked pitches', we were allowed to pitch where we liked which meant that we could at least find some shade from the blazing sunshine. Most of the site is open and flat with forest along two sides.
Toilet portacabins were very pleasant and well maintained. Grass was a bit on the long side but it made for a good soft foundation to pitch on. Plenty of taps so no long walks for water. Prices were very reasonable, £8 per person with no hidden extras.
Only criticism is that there are no styles for getting over the surrounding wall, presumably to keep other forest visitors out, so from where we pitched, despite being just yards from the trees, it was quite a long walk to get into the forest proper. But then why go to the woods if you don't want to walk?
While we were there the deer stags were in rutting mode so they were bellowing all through the night, but it was a bonus rather than a drawback. You can't get much more in tune with nature than being surrounded by battling stags, I reckon.
We will definitely be going back to this one.

The wind was quite strong but due to the wardens expert advice we were pitched so as not to be affected by it. The site is flat and spacious and the pitches are of generous proportions.
There is an abundance of wildlife with a herd of cautious deer in the field however the ponies are kept out by the fence which saves your food being stolen by peckish ponies.
The toilet and shower block was warm and clean if a little cramped in the actual shower tray area but a new block is being applied for which would make this site even better.
The site is set in the heart of the New Forest within walking distance to Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst where there is plenty of choice for food and drink.
However the thing that makes want to go back again most is the friendly and helpful service we got from the warden, definitly first class

This site is beautifully located between Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst. We were there in the rutting season for the deer and there were plenty around to see, even right inside the campsite. We even heard the stags bellowing at night.
There is a long entrance road, but you can access the forest directly (on foot or bike) via a gate at the back of the site, perfect for motorhome users who don't take their unit out during their stay.
In terms of facilities, there is only a shower and toilet block with washing up sinks - which is being upgraded for 2012.
Big downside for us was that when I was in the shower on our last night the cleaner man came into the ladies showers. We would not return.

Our family visited this campsite twice a couple of years back. It is a great campsite and at that time it was run by a kind gentleman. The campsite facilities were OK. We were on a great big field with nature all around us. Roads not too close. Woods next to us and through them the most lovely nature walks to the nearby shops. It was a fair old walk but it was the scenery that was just so gorgeous! Horses all around. Dears sniffing at night. I am going back as soon as I can.

Nice if basic site that 'does what it says on the tin'. Flat field with good clean facilities and plently of water pipes etc. Nice walk in to Brokenhurst (unless you are my 8 year old going on teenager son!) passed lots of horses and even some foals.
Would go back if we wanted to be in the area, but definitely avoid driving through Lymington (even midday midweek it crawls)!
Cheaper than the Forest Holidays sites near by, and had availability at the last minute in high season.
Slightly difficult to find - turn off for the show ground and follow the little green signs even past where it says 'Private no entry' and you do eventually get there.

Our first visit to this site, on our arrival we were met by very friendly site wardens.
The pitch sizes are very generous, but being on pitch 1 with electric h/u we were next to the cesspit which was very smelly on several occasions so we would not recommend any pitches 1-6.
The site facilities left a lot to be desired, quite often no hot water fro washing up.
Showers very small and in porta cabins, these facilities could definitely do with improving especially at such a high cost to stay there.
Site location was perfect, no need to use the car at all, cycle/walking routes straight from the site to both Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst and many areas of the New Forest, and if you have a dog they are welcome and will love the forest and heathland.
Regular visitors to the site is a herd of dear both during the day and night. General maintenance of the site could be improved but overall this would not put us off considering a return visit.
If you want peace and quite, space and the stars at night and be at one with nature then this is the site for you.

This site is amazing, it was our first camping experience and we struck gold completely.
The campsite is immaculate and I mean immaculate, owners are lovely and very helpful, the pitches are huge, the owner does not believe in squishing people in, you have plenty of room, we had a huge corado 6 tent with awning and minibus (hubby drives taxis lol) and we still had tons of room to play.
The deer come into the park in the night, completely surreal feeling to hear the deer grazing inches from where you sleep. You can walk to the local villages/towns. The new forest ponies are amazing, the children were completely blown away.
Only improvement I could think of was if the office maybe stocked basic supplies and newspapers, but its not a long walk to village. Hopefully if not fully booked we will be returning this August and I'm the sort to never return to same place twice. Can't wait

We decided to try Long Meadow as it is one of the smaller sites in the new forest situated between Lyndhurst & Brokenhurst. We were also looking for some where that was not going to be to busy and would be fairly quite.
I made the booking via email and was provided with all the information I would need to know about the site like pitch costs, facilities available & how to locate our pitch.
We arrived Friday evening to find the wardens hut closed for the night so we made our way to our very generous sized pitch and set up for the night. We found the site to be very peaceful even with the families and children who were kept under control.
The Toilet/shower blocks are basic but adequate although I did find the shower cubicles a little small for me (I'm just over 6ft average build)they also have three pot wash areas which would get busy during peak times on the site.
On the Saturday I visited the wardens hut and paid up for the 2 nights we were staying. He was very friendly and wished us a pleasant stay at the site.
The pitches are large, flat and the ground is just right, not to hard not to soft.
Brokenhurst is just over an hours walk from the site and has a number of pubs with good food and real ale, all ways a tick in the box for me. Lyndhurst has a number of pubs also.
We will definitely be coming back to this site again

Only stayed for a weekend to test drive the new tent but would have liked to stay for longer!
Wonderful welcome from owners, who made us feel very welcome and have a vast knowledge of local area.
Site is basically a large open field (windbreak a must!) with each pitch marked. The pitches are of a great size. No feeling on top of each other.
As mentioned previously, even though the facilities are in portacabins they are spotless and constantly checked.
They small river to the rear of the site was like a magnet for my children. They spent hours amusing themselves paddling and climbing the fallen trees.
Beyond this the path opens up onto the moorland with cows and horses aplenty.
Brockenhurst has all the stores needed for supplies. A small Tesco is always busy but, a visit to the butcher for BBQ food and to the bakers for their huge cakes is a must.
Will return to this site.
