On arrival we was greeted by the warden who explained where the toilets, showers, washing up areas were. And gave us some useful info about the surrounding area. The pitch itself was spacious and flat, plenty of water points. The toilets were clean, the showers were hot and powerful, considering it was august did not have to queue even though there was only two washing up sinks. Very quiet at night no road noise. The deer came in at night and was in the field early morning. Brockenhurst has basic food shops, quite expensive. Children loved swinging on the rope swing over the small stream and paddling which is situated a few minutes walk in the forest. Lovely area and ideal for biking. Definitely will return again.

Huge pitches with loads of room for us, our tent and car. We could have held a party if it wouldn't have disturbed the peace and quiet of the whole site. Admittedly it was actually quite empty and the wardens cleverly separated people around the site so you weren't all crowded into one area, and trust me this site is big. One big flat field, which could mean quite a hike to the toilet block if you are at the far side and in need of 'the facilities'. Very dark so no light pollution means don't forget your torch. A good thing!

Two choices of washing up facilities one inside and one outside. Fine for the size of site.

The toilet blocks are portacabins. Not glamorous but actually very good. Cleaned to within an inch of their life they were never anything but spotless. 4 showers for each sex and whilst we never had a problem, if this site was full it may suffer. Thing is I don't think I know a campsite that doesn't fall into this trap. They were hot and powerful, more than my power shower at home so no complaints. There are loads of loo's though so you will never find yourself caught short.

At £15 per night it is very reasonable.

The location is a bit remote for supplies, meaning a car journey into Brockenhurst. You can walk it through the forest but I wouldn't suggest it in the dark. If you fancy a pint it would mean a walk down the main road (very main) which does not have a footpath. You can't hear it on the site though so not a problem for noise.

The deer previous reviewers have mentioned are amazing but can be quite disconcerting if you hear them pulling at the grass right by your head at 5am. I forgave them for the view when I opened the door of the tent to see them only a few feet away looking at me with an indifferent glaze.

We went to test our new tent as it is close to our home but far enough to feel like we were away (if you get my meaning)but would gladly visit again and probably will.

Great Site! Arrived Friday Afternoon, was greeted by the owners who are really nice. You're two mins from the forest (gated from the site) and 5 mins drive from Brockenhurst. Excellent hot showers- probably the best I have ever had in 10 years of camping.

We were there for 3 days - spent all of it with the dog walking in the forest or relaxing at the site, and thoroughly loved it.

Criticisms:

There is no shelter, so if the wind gets up, it'll be rough.

Plus Points:

Peaceful and pleasant, and suitable for groups, families or just couples like us.

This was our 2nd visit to Long Meadow this year. We also visited in May 10. Absolutely love it here. The pitches are a great size and the field is not overgrown. Toilets & Showers were always clean and I never queued for these or the washing up facilities. Fantastic location if you're into mountain biking (as we are) or walking as you are directly in the forest and right on the trails.

The deer are a common site and can often be hear around the tents during the nights!

5 stars!

Wanted a camp site in the New Forest and this was perfect.Good value for money. Very spacious pitches and although 100 pitches which were full the field still looked half empty We were greeted and welcomed on a drizzly Saturday afternoon after a five hour drive. The camp site backs onto part of the forest with various paths, streams and cycle routes. The camp site has 3 blocks of porta cabins and loos and these are kept clean and well maintained with plenty of hot water at all times. No queues on a bank holiday.

On the first night we walked into Brockenhurst through the Forest. Got a little lost so it took about an hour but can be done in 40 mins. Brockenhurst is the nearest for supplies with lots of little shops including a Tesco Express 3 pubs and Takeaways.

The camp site is in a central area for exploring the New Forest wether on bike car or foot. We visited in car all over recommend visits to Lepe(fantastic views of the Southhampton channel and Isle of Wight) Beau lie, Lyndhurst,Lymington, Burley and we even did Isle of Wight going out of Lymington. Best to book tickets online before you go as it is £34 rather than on the day £45.If you go to Haithe you can watch the big cruise liners coming out of Southhampton dock.

We only took the kids bikes who enjoyed cycling around the forest next to the camp site we wish we had taken ours but having my 75 year old mum who was camping with us we didn't take them. There is a firm called Trax www.Bikehirenewforest.Co.Uk who will deliver bikes to the camp site and they are most reasonable at £12 a day.

The pub 1 and 1/2 mile away called the Crown and Stirrup going towards Lyndhurst is very friendly with a great big beer garden and great food.

We will definitely go back to The New Forest and will take the bikes. The area is lovely and the horses and cattle just roaming around just make it even more special. If you want a camp site tucked away which isn't all singing and dancing than this is the one. Seeing and listening to the deer next to your tent at night makes it even more special.

We booked here for the weekend and upon making the booking found the owners to be really helpful and friendly. The initial impression as you drive up to the site is that it is pretty run down, but these buildings belong to an old Manor.

The site itself is a large field with the added bonus of deer grazing in adjacent fields. It is very peaceful and although we never got to do it heard that there are some lovely walks / cycle rides close by.

The facilities are fairly basic with 2 washing up sinks (1 outdoors), warm and powerful showers and a toilet / washing block. The facilities are kept really clean. The pitch size is plentiful and we had a lovely relaxing weekend. Would definitely return.

Lovely site, gates at back of site open straight into the New Forest national park. Twenty minutes walk across open heath to Brockenhurst.

The site is situated at the back of an equestrian centre so there are no roads nearby and the site is very quiet.

The pitches are very big and you get a real feeling of space here. No queues in showers but this might be different in high summer. The washing facilities are in new portable cabins which are well equipped and spotlessly clean.

The site warden is constantly cleaning and walks around the pitches a couple of times a day, so very well maintained. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. We will definitely return.

We (me, the missus and our dog) spent 8 nights at Long Meadow and couldn't have asked for more! We had a big electric pitch which was only a minute or so from the toilet/ shower blocks.

The warden was very helpful upon our arrival and throughout the stay, with information and advice on where to shop, eat, drink and what attractions we could visit during our stay. The toilets and showers while basic, were always spotlessly clean, hot water was plentiful and the showers powerful - just what we needed after plenty of long walks in the woods! Access straight to the woods with paths to the close-by towns and villages make it ideal for those who are there to dog walk or cycle!

My only criticism (and it's a small one) is that the grass on the pitches could have done with being cut a bit more often as the nettles and thistles had grown up around the back while we were pitching.

Other than that, 9/10 and we'll definitely be back!

We stayed here for one night. It is basically a large field close to the showground, and the facilities are portacabin type. It was very quiet when we were there, but must get very busy when shows are happening. It is lovely to walk around the area, and see the ponies. It is a fair walk to the nearest village and I wouldn't want to do it in the dark, but it has shops, pubs and takeaways when you get there. Overall, it is very pleasant and we would use this site again.

Very friendly and helpful wardens who showed us where everything was on the site, where to takes the dogs for a walk and gave us a leaflet which showed the local shops with street maps.

The showers and toilets were very clean.

The showers were powerful and hot.

The two washing up areas had plenty of room for your dirty and clean pots one was indoors and the other outside.
