We found this site very friendly indeed. It was nice to be shown personally to our pitch.
Whether it was the weather or because it was early July I'm not sure, but we had the field just about to ourselves.
Liked the fact that it was quiet, no club or bar on site. Kids loved the play area.
Just a shame for us that the weather was realy bad and wet for most of our two week stay.
All facilities excellent, great site, would visit again.

I visited Leadstone at the weekend for the first time (although my husband has been previously and was keen to go again) and I liked the way we were led to our pitch. As it was early in the season we had plenty of choice. There are about 4/5 fields to choose from, all bounded by tall neat hedges. I saw a lovely little hidey hole which seemed to be occupied by just one tent. We chose the large field which is slightly sloping in places so that our daughter could use the playpark, which had enough equipment to keep the children occupied.
I was pleased with the toilet cubicles which included a sink as I don't always want a shower, just privacy for a quick freshen up. If the site was full I'm not sure there would be enough facilities for every one though. Washing up is done undercover, and there is a sink for handwashing - useful for rinsing bathers etc.
We know the area well and found the site handy for revisiting our favourite places, and easy walking distance to the beach. No swimming pool or club here which is just the way we wanted it.
Lovely site - we'll be back!

Dear Leadstone,
It has been some years since the Dalley family have visited you but you have a wonderful site and brought us many years of happy holidays. Although Mrs dalley (senior) passed away this year we hope to visit you once again this coming year.
Thank you for the memories

Been going down to this site now for many years. Overall the site is clean and tidy and an ideal for base for looking around south Devon. Could do with toilet block in each field to ease queueing in peak times. Close to beach, nice walks across sea front to dawlish and walks around nature reserve very good. Plenty of shops etc and excellent pub on sea front with kids rooms and meals very good and cheap and four more on walk back to camp site. Train travel very cheap as well, went to torqay for £11.00 return for family of four. Good day out.

A very pleasant site. We stayed for 3 nights. We were in the top field which I think they used for transit campers. It was quiet and peaceful and near to the shop. This was our first camping trip and site and we really enjoyed it. My brother came along and 2 neices and they were sited in the main field. This was very noisy and a little cramped. I would not have liked to have camped where they were Showers and toilets were clean and it cost 20p for a good shower which was hot and plentiful. The site operated a freezer block service, this was quite expensive as some sites do this for free. Site owners were very friendly and helpful and the site is well situated for all the amenities of Dawlish with plenty of eating places and pubs within a short walking distance.

Just came back from a week at Leadstone, Lovely unspoilt site, in a wonderful part of the country, very close to the amenities too. Slightly hilly pitches, but it does mention that in the details, so no real surprise, and with some clever use of bits of wood we managed to level the folding camper nicely. Had a lovely pitch at the top of the field, overlooking the whole site, which was great for when our 2 kids disappeared off to the play area, which they did as soon as the tent flaps opened in the morning. I only have a couple of comments, First of all the fresh water supply seemed REALLY slow to fill up our water tanks, but no problem to me since I delegated that job to my eldest! On the first night there was an incessant thumping noise from loud music, I'm pretty sure it wasn't from the site, but it was a little annoying and lasted all night. The toilet/shower facilities were always clean and tidy, however with the fields filled to capacity, it was necessary to use them VERY early in the morning to avoid a queue. The little shop was excellent for when you ran out of milk etc, and the local shops were only 5 mins walk away at the most. Now, the only thing that really got on my nerves was this, Leadstone has a very nice policy of allowing campers to arrive at 8:30am, which I have to admit I took advantage of to avoid the "rush hour" traffic, however, on the day we were packing up we had till 12 to leave, but unfortunately had someone waiting for our pitch from about 10am, I mean literally 3 yards away, kids in car, caravan hitched up, tapping fingers, waiting for us to pack up and leave, which was a little unsettling. Maybe if these early brids could be put in a "waiting" area until the pitch was cleared, that would be better. Other than that, exactly what it says on the tin, and excellent, clean, friendly site, in a wonderful location - would definitely go again.

Thank you for submitting the reviews – they are very welcome, especially those with constructive criticism! I thought I would let you all know that we have investigated the inconsistent water supply problems that we experienced during the peak season. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused – we believe this is the first “glitch” we have had at Leadstone since Dad opened the site in 1974! If you could see the site now it is a maze of trenches as we are installing an upgraded water main which we are told will solve the problem – so do come and try it out in 2007! With regard to some of the other issues…. Managing dog owners can be challenging, we do what we can if a “whoopsy” is reported – I am pleased to say that is very rare these days as owners appreciate that many sites have a complete ban on dogs (or make it prohibitively expensive!) so are in the main, VERY responsible. Tent manufacturers have caused us a few problems this last season with their wonderful tents, however they can be too big. We turned away a number of “Field hotels” – our regulars tell us that our pitches are generous and well marked. Occasionally 2 “monsters” (usually with 2 people in !) do end up adjacent to each other and if we are full there is little we can do. Those who booked in advance know we ask for tent size but I’m sure you will understand when I say “One man’s small is another man’s large!” If you have not stayed with us before – please do come and see us sometime. We’ll be delighted to welcome you. Happy Camping Andrew and Sarah Leadstone Camping

We've just returned from a 10 day stay here and we had a fantastic holiday. Leadstone is a lovely family friendly site with clean and tidy facilities.
Our field was ideally situated near the shower / toilet / washing up facilities. This didn't cause any problems with noise or smells! I can't say I noticed anything wrong with the drinking water. The showers were brilliant and I had a good shower for 20p. The temperature was perfect. I chose to have showers in the evening as it was a bit busy in the morning but I did notice people weren't waiting long
Our 2 older children made full use of the playground and we felt safe letting them go and play on their own-in fact we hardly saw them. They made lots of friends.
We had electric hook up but there were places where you could plug in hairdryers etc. There is also a laundrette with 2 washing machines and tumble driers plus an ironing board.
It was a short walk into Dawlish Warren, although its a bit of a steep hill on the way back, and there are a few pubs (we went to the Welcome Inn and Mount Pleasant inn where we had lovely meals in both and both reasonably priced, Fantastic views in the Mount Pleasant inn) ,gift shops, takeaways and a supermarket. The beach was lovely and easily accessible for all.
We didn't have a problem with noise at night which was great as we have children and any noise children were making in the morning was down to the parents and not the campsite!
All in all it was a fantastic holiday, the sun shone for us which was great. We enjoyed it so much we've booked to go back next year.

We stayed here and although it was a nice site we will not be returning unless they address these issues. A huge problem was the hot water, either you had a scalding hot shower or a cold one sometimes in the same session. I ended up buying some baby wipes for the last couple of days and had a damn good scrub when I got home. I've stayed in other parks around this area and never had that problem before no matter how busy it was. Another bit was the toilets, clean yes, but more needed for a site of that size. These 2 things were really quite annoying. The toilet more so especially at 9.00am when my bladder is screeching and I have to do the toilet dance :0( I cannot fault the size of the pitches and although a bit slopey in parts we were ok.

After coming from a really small site, this seemed huge. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Not many showers and toilets for the amount of people, sometimes had to queue, not so good if you are desperate first thing in the morning. The showers and toilets were pretty grotty and the loos were quite smelly! The tents were crammed in a bit, we had stereo snorers either side who seemed to keep going all night! It does say you are supposed to be 6 metres apart, this was impossible where we were situated, more like 2 feet apart.
The beach is nice and close, just a 10 minute walk. All in all we did enjoy our stay but think we do prefer a smaller site, however this was only our second site we have camped on, the first was lovely, so maybe we were spoilt and are in for a shock when we go elsewhere.
