Nice friendly family site, though our pitch was on a slope which made sleeping a little difficult.
Kids liked the play park which could be seen from the tent. Could do with the tents having space between to park a vehicle as all the cars ended up in front of the tents.
Pleasant walk to the Beach. Wi-Fi was a bonus (though not cheap) Shop stock very limited, no sweets for the kids ! The new Sainsburys 5 mins away was a great bonus.
Showers and toilets were OK, hope the new block in 2012 has a greater number to prevent queues forming.

We are a family of 4 and we stay in dawlish every year. However this year was a first for us as we are usually there quite early in the year and so we don't camp. This time we decided to go during the main holiday and take the tent.
We arrived just after lunch at Leadstone and were shown to our pitch by the warden. Pitch was level and large enough for our big tent, a smaller tent (youngest son too cool to sleep in our tent. )a huge wind break and our large car.
We didn't need EHU, but it was still available to us as most of the pitches seemed to be close to the hookups.
The kids soon scooted off to the playpark which was ace for them. No need to worry about noise from it as it is closed at dusk by the warden. Site is pretty quiet by 10pm and silent by 11pm. This seems largely due to it being a family site, so the kids are ready for bed by then, but also due to the warden having quiet words where needed.
Plenty of loos and showers. Usual queues at peak times, but nothing too bad. Facilities are clean. I even saw them being cleaned at 11pm one night! Take plenty of 20ps for the showers! though having said that, 20p gives a shower that's long enough for a good wash.
Not really any road noise at night and its a fairly short walk to Dawlish Warren with plenty to do for the kids and some great pubs with reasonably priced food.
Its useful to know that there are steps at the back of the Mount pub that take you up and down the hill a little quicker than following the road.
Not too far to Dawlish town either. Plenty of walking to justify eating all the pasties that we always manage to cram in. Don't forget Gays creamery in Dawlish for lunch. Brave the queues, you wont be sorry!
For the older kids, there's also a skate/scooter park 5 mins away just off the Exeter road. Look for the signs for the leisure centre and you will soon find it.
There is a laundry room with sockets for your straighteners girls! and hairdryers! also plenty of room for standing and gossiping.
The washers are £2. 00 for a wash and dryers are £3. 00. Plenty of magazines have been left by previous people on washer vigil for you to read whilst waiting!
The reception is very well stocked. A real tardis, not overpriced. If you're really stuck, there's a book swap box there too.
Warden and owner both very friendly, there was always a group of campers stood around having a chat.
We love Dawlish and will definitely be back to this site with our friends in tow next year.

A good site with well spaced good sized pitches. Ground is sloping in some parts of the site but this can be overcome with careful positioning of your tent.
Good safe playground on site for kids and lots of open ground to play in. Toilets can get busy but are cleaned regularly. Shop is well prised and has a good system of rotating freezer packs (50p for three). Showers cost 20p but last long enough if you choose one of the older models.
Would recommend a drink in the Mount Pleasant and a meal/drink/squat at the Anchor which provides a pick up drop off service (Which we found out on the very last day. Argh!).
All in all I would recommend a stay at this site.

Great site, just a nice walk from the Warren and pubs, hardly any road noise. Good clean toilets and showers, didn't experience much in the way of queueing even though site was pretty full.
Children's play area was pretty good too, and still plenty of open space for bikes and cricket. Very nice staff - slight problem with booking a hookup but that not being written down at the time, but they sorted that out very quickly.
Dawlish is a nice place for a family holiday - there's a great beach, lots of chipshops and fudge, fishing trips etc.

A gem of a site. Our pitch was large and fairly level (we did ask for a level pitch when booking) and although the facilities weren't the best we've ever enjoyed they were adequate.
There is no dog walking area but a couple of minutes walk down the road is a huge field where dogs are also exercised from a neighbouring site.
The site is well positioned for visiting this beautiful area of Devon with excellent transport links via bus and train.
On our first night we ventured down to the Mount Pleasant pub which has amazing views over the estuary. We didn't eat there but the food looked and smelled delicious.
Dawlish Warren itself is a great little place for families and the Warren itself is a beautiful nature reserve although we were disappointed that dogs were not allowed on the far end of the path having got so far down.
The coastal walk into Dawlish is great with lovely views of the red rocks however the railway line does run along side it and cuts across the beach at Dawlish, which in itself is a quaint little town perhaps there isn't a great deal to do there but it is very pretty.
our miles down the coast is Teignmouth which we absolutely loved; we also took the ferry from Starcross (about 2 miles away from Dawlish Warren) across the beautiful estuary to Exmouth which is well worth a visit.
We haven't commented on the facilities for children because we didn't have any children with us; however from what we observed, the children on site seemed to enjoy the playground facilities.
We had a great time.

Nice enough site. Some pitches sloping but overall good.
Facilities adequate - they are planning a new block for toilets / showers etc. EHU plentiful.
Play area for kids in centre of site - handy for kids, less handy if you're the other side of the hedge from it!
Take plenty of pegs - the ground is full of rocks - the surface is clear though.
Quiet was restored, give or take, around 10pm (albeit we weren't there on a Friday or Saturday night.
Local area - lots of very nice beaches and walks.
Dawlish and Dawlish Warren are a bit 'kiss me quick' - go-karts, amusement arcades etc etc.
Drive along the coast to Ness beach - accessed through a smugglers' tunnel. Lovely beach, much quieter and dolphins have been sighted off the beach.
Nice enough campsite but we'll be making the extra effort and going back to Hope Cove, Salcombe area next year

Booked this as a last minute thing as we found ourselves with 4 free days. A bit on the expensive side as it was not near the sea, but a good walk away. As I'm disabled we had to drive everywhere, but that's not the camps fault.
The reception and greeting we got was very friendly. We were put on pitch 79 which was close to reception and almost as close to the facilities. Perfect spot for me as I didn't have to walk too far.
There was a bit of noise at night with the boy racers up and down the road outside the camp. The road was 20 metres from us.
The showers were good at 20p a time and the toilets themselves were okay. No smell, but they need to get a long brush to sort the cobwebs out.
The shop in reception was okay for the essentials and not too overpriced that you can find on some sites. Our first night, the zip on our tent broke and I had to drive to Exeter to buy a new one.
All in all, a good site. Would I return? Yes.

Really good site. I would defo go back
All the facilities that you would need, toilets are very clean and well maintained in fact when we were leaving they were planning a new toilet/ wash block so this coming summer should be even better. Dawlish itself is lovely and most areas of Devon are not far as this site is fairly central
Ground did slope slightly but it wasn't that noticeable. Its fairly busy (esp w'ends) but all in all very impressed by everything!
Kids enjoyed themselves with the play park and they were also I eye-shot of our tent which was a bonus for us
We will return one summer after we've seen some more of Devon/ Cornwall

Booked this site after reading the fab reviews however I've got to say I was a disappointed upon arrival. The reception was not a nice warm and welcoming one at all, the pitch was sloping in more than 1 direction with dips in several places under our tent.
The facilities ie toilets, showers and laundrette were just ok, even though you have to pay for showers
The major plus was the location - just 10 mins easy walk on a path to the beach, train station and pubs etc.

I wonder if I stayed at the same site as these other reviewers as we found it to be noisy well into the night to the extent that the younger members of our party were woken up regularly,
the toilet and shower facilities were totally inadequate in number with continuous queues and no baby or family facilities, the flattened cardboard boxes on the toilet floors were classy.
The unisex showers were too small to take in more than one child, although we were amused by the washing up bowls chained to the sinks.
The children's play area was poor with no facilities for youngsters and babies and often full of teenagers.
The pitches were uneven to the extent that our 18 month old could not walk in the tent without falling over and the electric hook ups were positioned so that the leads trailed across the site where the kids played and had deep holes around them being a real risk to little feet.
The staff were quite miserable and appeared that they didn't want to be there. It is a shame as this is a great location and is sadly let down by the facilities and service.
