We stayed at studio room at £45 per night for two adults well worth the money. It had all the cooking facilities that we needed, shower, table and two chairs and sofa bed (best sleep I've had in ages)our own private garden-the views of Yorkshire was amazing.

We would definitely stay there again, the owners are so welcoming and chirpy.

Butchers, two pubs, post office-bus stop outside of campsite, which travels to Whitby and Scarborough.

Runswick Bay beach one mile from the campsite, lovely beach, cafe on the beach.

Unfortunately we weren't told that it was a predominately adults site when we checked in with our two children. Although we didn't get into any serious trouble (the kids immediately stopped playing after being reminded by the owner) we didn't feel quite comfortable here.

Everything was very well maintained and clean but there could be more showers and 20 p for dish washing would be fine if you really got your own hot water. For 20.50 a night we would expect a little more comfort like no queuing at the shower, free hot water at the sink and more space between the pitches.

We couldn't sleep before midnight because of a party next door. This is not the owner's fault of course!

 Excellent campsite with fantastic facilities!

Just got back from serenity after two nights stay and was very impressed, the owners were very friendly and polite and always helpful.

The shower/toilets were spotless constantly cleaned.

Situated in the middle of Hinderwell directly opposite the Badger hounds pub which was friendly and served great food, the fish and chip shop was just down the road and the local butchers was well good.

About a mile from Runswick bay which was a nice walk to the beach with some nice pubs.

Staithes was also close by a nice walk along the cleveland way.

The field was a little up and down but pitches were fine and flat so all in all a great campsite which we will definitely visit again.

This was our first visit to this site and we had a lovely stay. We almost missed the small sign off the main road but were very impressed with the place as we drove in. There was no-one in the office as we arrived but we soon found someone who showed us to the tent pitches and even the best place to pitch depending on if we wanted the sun in the morning or evening. I had no cash on me as we arrived (only debit card which they don't take) but the lady kindly told us we could pitch up and pay later once we had cash.

The main camping field, although big had big wide furrows running down it's length, we were glad there were only a couple of other tents there so we had plenty of room to be choosy.

The view over the Yorkshire moors was stunning and the site was incredibly peaceful and quiet (apart from the owner on his ride on mower which interrupted my afternoon nap somewhat, however it's not as though he can mow in the middle of a busy summer weekend so I'll let him off!)

The showers and toilets were spotless, the walls fully tiled and the ceiling cladded, not a spot of mould or mildew to be seen, there were only 3 toilet cubicles, 1 private sink cubicle, two shower cubicles and 3 sinks.

I didn't take a shower so I can't comment on them. There was a 20p charge for hot water, which considering we paid £19 per night (with hook-up) I thought this was a bit of a cheek. We got round it by taking a kettle full of hot water to the washing up area. They also have a food prep room with chopping boards and a few other bits and bobs, a nice touch.

There is a little general store and post office in the village for food, snacks, baked goods etc. We went for a lovely walk down to Runswick Bay, about 2 and a half miles (ask for directions) along the cleveland way offering amazing views of hidden bits of coastline (not suitable for those with mobility problems). Tea and a slab of chocolate cake in the cafe and a walk back up the very steep hill to the main road and an easier walk back to the campsite via the road.

Would we return? Yes, definitely

My overall rating 9 out of 10, point lost for hot water charge and slightly too small bathrooms.

Just visited serenity for the second time this year as it is handy for visiting family.

How anybody picks faults with this site I don't know we were well looked after from arriving to leaving,

We were told we could pitch where ever we wanted and as there was wind forecast we were allowed to go on a more sheltered part which is usually occupied by caravans we got no wind at all.

We will definitely be returning next year

We spent a lovely week at this site over the bank holiday and following week and apart from a few 'blustery' nights we had extremely good weather.

On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly, helpful staff who showed us our reserved pitch and we (me, him and the two dogs)soon settled in. The facilities were extremely good, always clean and never busy.

We went for a walk down to Runswick Bay- it's quite a pull back up that hill! puff puff! Everywhere you go around here is either up or down a 25% gradient so you'll soon get fit :o)- had a chippy tea from the excellent chip shop on the High Street and bought some provisions from the small shop.

Days were spent exploring, the first time you round the bend driving down into Sandsend and see the view across the bay is quite breath-taking. Robin Hood's Bay is very quaint and lovely (puff puff again) and I was lucky to have the other half find a large piece of jet on the shore- need to get it shaped and mounted.

We spent a magical, nostalgic day on the Pickering to Whitby steam railway, visited the picturesque Thornton-le-Dale with it's vintage car sales and museum, took time out in Helmsley, Rievaulx Abbey and Kilburn; walked from the site to Staithes and back along part of the Cleveland Way not for the faint hearted if you don't like heights, or should I say steep drops(using walk 3 from the site).

Nights were spent outside the tent star gazing with a small fire pit and two very contented dogs.

Mornings and afternoons heralded the duck walk to rival the famous Peabody parade in Memphis- what characters.

We did venture to the Brown Cow for a meal and found it to be excellent simple value for money fare with very friendly staff and regulars. This is a little jewel of an area to explore and far surpassed all of our expectations and our holiday here will be one to keep us smiling well into the winter nights.

Have not stopped telling people they must visit, thanks for such a warm welcome.

This was our first visit to this site; it was recommended to us by a relative. We found the site easily and the check-in was friendly and efficient. The name Serenity is certainly apt, broken only by the cockerel before the crack of dawn! There are two main areas for caravans and motorhomes and another field for tents. The site appeared to be quite full (except for the bottom field), but there were quite a number of long-stay caravans which were not occupied at the time of our visit. There is a toilet block and also a block for washing up, information and reading matter. Take a supply of 10p and 20p. There is a fridge/freezer and microwave for the use of those without EHU. The ladies toilets & showers were fine, but not the most spotless I have seen. I noticed that the rubbish & recycling bins were all ready for emptying; I don't know if a collection was due.

We used the bottom field as a dog walk. There is also a rather attractive pond, a 'waddle' of ducks, 2 resident dogs and a 'cote' of doves.

The village of Hinderwell had a post office/small shop, garage & petrol station, 2 pubs, a bistro and a fish & chip shop (highly recommended). There is a co-op food store at Staithes a short drive away. There are also more facilities at Whitby. If you go to Whitby, head for the Abbey and if you are reasonably early you will be able to park nearby for £4 for the day, with great views, and walk down into the town via the 199 steps.

Two things to be aware of:

The entrance to the site is narrow and concealed (especially when a small truck decides to park there!) and if you follow the website instructions to the site from the south, and you don't have a 4x4, you will find yourself towing up a 1 in 4 hill at Lythe.

Instead, from Guiseborough take the A171 past Scaling Dam. Turn left near the end of the reservoir to Ellerby. Go along to the end of the road and turn left onto the A174 to Hinderwell. There is one large climb just outside Guiseborough, but you are on dual carriageway and people can pass you on the way up.

Having become aware of the above factors, we would visit this site again, and would recommend it to our friends with 4 x 4s.

Stayed here 20 years ago to the day. Still a lovely site although it has grown a little.

This is a site mainly for adults only but owner will accept parties with calm children &/or pets (no ball games) to maintain the truly serene atmosphere.

Pitches marked out at 10m intervals & electric hook-up available. Smallish toilet/shower block but kept spotlessly clean. Showers 20p and hot water for washing up 10p (which is our only gripe, think this should be included in pitch price).

Chickens run free around site. Village of Hinderwell right outside site has a couple of pubs, a village store, petrol station & chippie.

Car ride away from Whitby, just far enough to be away from the crowds. Runswick approx 1 mile away for beach and more choice of food/pubs etc.

Just had 3 nights at this site, sadly weather not too great but the site was one I'd visit again.

It's very quiet but in the middle of the village and a 20 min walk to Runswick Bay.

We had a warm welcome and were shown 'what's what' by a member of staff.

Good to see that pitches are numbered and that they don't allow free for all. Having said that the camping field does have furrows in it so there's no way you'd want to be anywhere other than your allocated pitch.

Facilities on the site are fine. I did wonder about only having two showers but never had to wait. In the gents I found the shower furthest from the door the better of the two, maybe as the hot water as that bit less to travel and so loses less heat (that’s my theory!). Save some 20ps for the shower.

Washing up facilities are spot on, again never had to wait and cost 10p for boiling hot water! A nice touch is the microwave and freezer for general use. There is also a washer, drier and spinner for fee. All facilities I found to be clean and in good order.

The site itself is very quiet and peaceful, only saw one child on site whilst we there. Having been I know that this isn’t the sort of site I’d take them to as it was quite pleasant not to be woken in the morning by the noise of children asking if they can get up, or even them playing at some early hour!

Local pubs were ok for a drink, one or two real ales for those who enjoy them and really enjoyed a trip up to Saltburn, which is a gem, I’ve now discovered.

All in all…well worth trying.

Well after all the great review's, we stayed three nights, the weather was not the best but that's not the sites fault, the site was very clean and tidy, some protection from the wind, lovely views. Toilets spotless, but did run out of loo roll in the gents twice.

As others have said, two pubs to chose from, had a meal in one of them, not the one at the entrance, the one just up the road, meal was really good and priced ok.

Got some ham from local butcher, it was excellent.

Fish and chip shop, fantastic.

We left a night early because of work commitment, the owners said I could have a refund, but in the end the lady said, mention it next time we come and will owe us the night, now don't think many would offer that, so well done the park owners, who was so friendly and helpful.

The site does say, predominantly adult site, and it was, but there was around eight to ten children there, one family (lovely people)pitched next to us and was woken by there small daughter, not the young girls fault, but not really what I chose the site for.

Now the question, would I recommend, yes, will we go back, yes, (not because of the night owing)

Highly recommend.
