Lovely area and very close to some wonderful coastline and walks, very warm welcome from the wardens and they couldn't be more helpful.

Lots of fresh water points and good waste disposal.

Yes the site showers are 20p but they are powerful, just make sure you put the money in after you have undressed or it may run out whilst you are still soapy!

You will notice a stream of people going to the Badger Hounds pub in the evenings the reason is the great food and beers, we had steak pie and it was the best in a long time, lovely chips and a large dish of veg too. We were told the curry was great as well, large helpings and didn't have to wait long.

Great beers at the Brown Cow in the village too, one or 2 shops for essentials, can't say anything positive about the fish and chip shop, maybe we picked a bad night!

We will be going to Serenity again!

This was our first time camping, and we really couldn't have picked a better site nor better weekend. This is a super little site, friendly owners, with excellent facilities kept clean all the time. Ladies and Gents sections, showers, and even a lovely well equipped room for ladies to dry your hair properly with lots of mirrors. An excellent large wash room for cleaning pots, a washing machine, tumble dryer and large fridge freezer. A bit of a walk from the lower field to the loo's but nothing to complain about there.

The village of Hinderwell is very well placed for the beaches of Runswick and Sandsend, and Whitby is only a few miles down the coast. Excellent little fish and chip shop in the village, a post office selling most things and a good butchers who sells anything you might care to throw on the bbq. You wouldn't really need to bring everything with you, as its all here.

My only gripe were the group of loud campers who were pitched a couple of tents up from us but might as well have been in our tent. They were excessively loud, drunk and leary from 4pm to midnight, with only a small break in between - when they went to the pub for more alcohol - I was under the impression that groups like this weren't tolerated, but it seems that they are.

However, they did leave on the Sunday morning so a little bit of peace did descend on the campsite eventually, and we got a taste of what it should really be like - a peaceful and lovely place to stay. Perhaps the owner needs to re-iterate to newly arriving guests that this is supposed to be a quiet and serene campsite.

All in all absolutely lovely (if the quiet rule is adhered to), and would return again now.

My second stay here, stayed last October in a tent, this time I used a caravan. Nice roomy pitches on a loveley quiet site. Felt guilty returning late after my birthday night out in Whitby. Clean and very tidy, good hook up points and superb toilets and showers. Came for the Goth weekend, wanted to stay longer, will when I get a chance!

This is an excellent site. It is quiet and peaceful, although there were only 5 other tents in the field at the time and we were all pretty spread out.

The shower block is superb. It is constantly being cleaned by site owner Pat and you are guaranteed a very clean cubicle and shower curtains at whatever time of day you choose to take your shower. Sink and bowl areas are spotless and always plenty of loo roll and complimentary handwash and hand cream etc.
There is piped music in the shower/toilet areas, but I get up so early, it hadn't started then so I never had the luxury of showering to music. There is a lovely cubicle for ladies which has a 2 full length mirrors in and an illuminated mirror for make up etc also a hairdryer etc perfect if you are wanting to 'dress up' for a night out.

There is a large laundry room with washing machines (£2), driers, a microwave and double deep fridge freezer free to use, although a donation is asked for to use the microwave. Hot water is 10p and so too is the iron.

The site is on a downward slope really so it's not entirely level pitching. I didn't find it a problem but some might. There are 3 fields 2 for Motorhomes and Caravans and one for tents. They are all large and spacious. The views are excellent, there were a couple of hens wandering around and some campers had spotted 2 deer scampering around the bottom fields. In the tent field there is a BBQ area.

I slept like a log and heard no night noises, even though I was on my own I didn't once feel threatened or frightened.

Hinderwell is a small village with 2 friendly and accommodating pubs, both doing brilliant meals at reasonable prices for BIG portions. I couldn't finish mine! Both pubs sell real ales along with a further selection of beers and lagers etc.

There is a chip shop in the village which the locals say is 'hit and miss'. I was told to go to Staithes before 7pm for the best fish and chips in the Uk for £4. They were right. Superb. You won't believe how light and airy the batter is until you taste it and the fish is freshly caught the same day they fry and sell it.

Also in the village is a Butcher, selling pies etc. There is a post Office with an ATM machine in there which is handy to know and no, you don't get charged for the transaction.

You are a lovely coastal drive of about 8 miles into Whitby. It was very busy there when I went and it's difficult to park unless you get there early enough. All car parks are £3, a bit of a rip off and the locals grumble like mad.

Staithes is only 2 miles away (be warned you have to park at the top of the hill and it's a strenuous walk back up the hill - the same for Runswick Bay) The Runswick Bay Hotel does lovely food and serves real ales. There are some super coastal walks all around and plenty of people were walking the coastal paths.

The site has an aura of peace and quiet and I can't wait to go back there. Highly recommended.

Great location for walking and for getting to Whitby. 20 minute walk to Runswick Bay and Staithes.

Site is divided into 2 halves, one for caravans and the other for tents. Pitching area is level and you can park next to your tent.

Toilet and shower blocks are constantly cleaned and you even get music piped through. Shower costs 20p.

There is a washing up block (10p for hot water) and also a microwave to warm up or defrost food and a freezer, also washing machines and irons and ironing board.

There is a bbq area at the bottom end of the site which is away from tents and a small pond with ducks and wildlife all around it.

Owners are always available for advice and questions, they gave us some very good info on local walks and the surrounding attractions.

Hinderwell village as 2 pubs, a chip shop, a general store/post office, a butcher, and a hair dressers.

Would definitely recommend this site to anyone wanting a nice quiet site with beautiful surroundings and owners that go out of their way to make you feel at home. We are going back in 2 weeks we liked it that much

This was a quiet site with no road noise, well-spaced out pitches and very helpful staff. The facilities were excellent and cleaned regularly and we would visit again.
There is a field to the rear of the site which had a few tents, but which was large enough to exercise dogs. There were also some footpaths leading directly off the site, to good for walks also.
The village had a few pubs, chippy and post office. All in all a great site and good location.

Thanks again to Nigel and Pat (owners) for a very nice five nights. This is our third visit this year, that tells it all I would think. We have no negatives about this site, immaculate everywhere. Showers/ kitchen/ washing room extremely well kept, this I'm sure takes a great deal of work. Local pub (badger hounds) 2 mins from site, very friendly couple ,excellent steak meal bought from village butcher yum. Could go on for ages but an excellent place to holiday.

Have stayed at this camp site before and it`s absolutely lovely! The camp site is located on the most wonderful spot of Yorkshire and the surroundings is to die for! Nigel, the camp site owner, is lovely man and always friendly!
The facilities are absolutely great and toilet blocks are spotless. The loveliest thing is to wake up in the early morning and hear the white doves making their love sounds.

I almost don't want to submit a review for this site as we would like to keep it a secret and all to ourselves. Hinderwell is a chocolate box village and has all the amenities needed for a pleasant and memorable stay. The village boasts two pubs and the one we used allowed our dog to lounge about the floor and she became quite the celebrity.
Nearby Runswick Bay is breathtaking and less than a two mile walk away. The site is owned and run by a lovely couple who seem committed to ensuring the camper has a good experience at their site. The site is well presented and carefully nurtured.
The facilities are airy and clean and the showers powerful and hot. The pot wash and clothes wash facilities are housed in their own block and these are clean and never crowded. Keen recyclers will appreciate the recycling facilities.
All in all this adds to this site being our favourite and one we will use regularly.

Great site, well kept & quiet. Superb facilities with launderette on site. Both local pubs are OK & do reasonably good pub grub. Good chippy in the village, plus local shops etc. For an interesting evening, visit The Beehive pub in Newholm, just like Fawlty Towers characters & very entertaining
