Having read the reviews I was looking forward to my stay at Serenity. I have to say I was a little disappointed.

The site itself is quite pretty and the owners fairly helpful. The whole site is on a bit of a slope, although we were in the bottom field which was more or less level. There was a fairly new washing point in the bottom field, but I couldn't understand why they hadn't extended this to include a loo and shower, because it was quite a trek to the loos and showers. In the ladies there were only 2 showers and 3 loos, which where inadequate in the morning 'rush' and both morings of my stay there were queues for both. There was a problem with hot water in the bottom field, most of the time there was no hot water (problem with the pilot light going out), although Pat was quick to refund any monies and sort out.

Although there is a quite policy this didn't appear to be enforced, but having said that husband over heard Nigel telling someone they had ejected two parties the previous evening, so maybe they were busy.

The site welcomes dogs, but they have to be on a lead etc. There were doggie bins dotted around, but we couldn't find much in the way of an area to exercise the dogs. There was a lane which runs at the bottom of the site, but I felt it was better to keep the dogs on the lead down there, so they didn't get their usual run.

The camp site is in the middle of a well served village, with a couple of pubs and a chippie (we just missed the chippie as it closed at 8 pm), but we didn't try any of the amenities. Whitby and Runswick Bay are a short car drive away.

On balance I dont think I will be visiting Serenity again.

Well after reading the reviews on here I was looking forward to a lovely serene weekend at Serenity - didnt quite happen though I am afraid. Arrived on the Friday night and was put in the lower field so I was pleased as that was the field that has been mentioned on here to be quiet but people were up till the small hours drinking and partying! Hmmmm I thought that this site was supposed to be a quiet one?
The only toilets are back up near the entrance to the site so it is quite a hike every time you want to go to the loo - dont know why they didnt put toilets in when they put in the washing up station at the lower end of the site. Now that I have mentioned the washing up station at the lower end of the site I also have to say that it is not lit at night so impossible to wash up in the dark. We also had problems getting hot water on one occasion and getting any water at all on another occasion at this washing up station so had to fill up a cup with hot water to fill the washing up bowl from the toilets then carry it all back down to the bottom of the site again - did a lot of walking this weekend.

On a more positive note the 2 showers were clean as were the 3 toilets - but not enough for the size of site and too far away from the lower field - this is ladies only and I didnt go into the mens lol.
The site is nicely landscaped but suffers from flooding in between the 2nd field and lower field so bring your wellies. Had a nice walk into Staithes on the Saturday - steep hill to go down to get there but a lovely fishing village at the bottom. We had lunch at the Cod & Lobster on the front and it was very nice and not over priced. The owners of the site are very friendly and they have videos and books to borrow too.
Road noise can be heard in the distance and the site is next to some allotments which have ducks and chickens on so quite a bit of bird noise and of course an early morning call from the cockrell.

All in all I will not be returning till the facilities have been upgraded a bit more and they enforce the quiet after 11pm rule.

Lovely well kept site in beautiful area. Just returned from 5 days stay and will definitely return. In centre of village, 2 pubs , butchers, fish and chips, shop. Lovely walks along cliff tops. Handy for Whitby. Hourly bus service if you prefer to leave the car. Had torrential rain one night and yet the grass remained firm with no mess. Quiet peaceful adult site.

We arrived on a sunny but very windy evening. With a little help from a neighbouring couple we were finally pitched. Having visited this site over the last 2yrs it still is a great feeling arriving.
Each visit brings something new to the site and facilities. This year we discovered piped music in the toilet block and as always immaculate. Nigel had finished his pond project and there was a new BBQ area on the main field.
We prefer the bottom field, a little quieter, but a bit more breeze down there. With new owners at the local pub opposite (The Badger Hounds) we got a warm welcome. The new service they provide is a whacka big breakfast with fresh coffee and toast for under £5. We booked that the night before. It took a day in Whitby to walk that one off.
Pat & Nigel were as usual, layed back, friendly and accommodating. Always such a chill out stay and will be back throughout the summer.

Pat & Nigel, the wardens of this site are really nice, very helpful & obliging people and cannot be faulted. However the site itself, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired. I am sure the moors themselves will be a lot flatter than the field for tents, it is very , very uneven.
The grass is cut daily but cuttings are just left and not collected so it is rather messy. We paid for electric but it cut out when we plugged in a travel kettle & when Nigel came to fix it next day we were told it was only 6 amps which I consider very low & I really do expect more. Please take plenty of 10 & 20 pence pieces with you as everything has a price. Showers 20p, hairdryer 20p, and 10p for 1/2 a sink of hot water for dishes, plus more for the washer & driers. The fridge / freezer & microwave were a bonus.
The toilet / shower block was very well kept & always clean. Please be aware that O2 mobiles do not work, we were informed that Orange is best. The highlight of our 3 night stay (should have been 4 but we left early) was the couple of hours spent in the Badger Hounds Pub with the owner Kim & the locals - it was fabulous and so, so friendly.

Very warm welcome by Pat, who showed us to our pitch and where the facilities are. The facilities are spotless and any mud / cut grass are constantly cleaned up. Pat and Nigel are forever on the go tending to the site.

Showers 20p, hot water for washing up 10p, washing machine £2 coin, tumble dryer 50p, iron and ironing board 20p. There is also a fridge / freezer and microwave - no charge but donations asked for.

Three fields for tents - the main one not flat down the middle of it, but the other two fields at the bottom of the site were. These only had washing up and toilet facilities only. Minute or so walk to the showers / laundry facilities from there.

Two fields for caravans / motor homes. All tents/caravans had plenty of room around them and stunning views of the moors. Plenty of info on local things to see / do.

Two pubs in the village - both OK - although I wasn't impressed with the Brown Cow's reference to foreigners either! Little village shop, post office, off licence and also a butchers, fish & chip shop and a deli / bistro and 2 hairdressers.
Runswick Bay about 20 min walk but down a very steep incline - killer on the legs on the way back up! Same for Port Mulgrave. 15 minute drive into Whitby. Hourly bus service between Middlesborough and Whitby.

All in all, everything you need or could ask for - we loved Serenity, so much so we booked on leaving to go back in a few weeks time!

We arrived on a Friday morning, 9.00 am, for a three night stay. We were given a very friendly welcome by Pat, who showed us where we could pitch the tent and all the other facilities.
During our stay we found the toilets were always clean and tidy, no cut grass being on the floor for long! The showers were hot and the piped radio programme really made you feel at home!. The use of the microwave and fridge / freezer was very welcome, something we have never encountered on other campsites.
The site was well situated for visiting small / large coastal places, and also for walking the Cleveland Way. The village offered a very good pub, a well-stocked local shop and, though we did not use it, we received good reports from the Fish & Chip Shop!
Pat and Nigel really made you feel welcome and you felt they were very concerned that you were comfortable and happy during your stay. This is the best camp site we have stayed at in all our 30 years of camping. We will return!

What a little gem, large pitch, very quiet, super clean facilities, the people on site are very friendly, ( unlike the hostile locals in The Brown Cow pub who referred to us as foreigners )

The site is ideal for the East coast, close to lots of walks etc, I can highly recommend the village chippy, just how chippies were when I was a kid.

We will be back!

We have been going to serenity for the past four years now. We usually go on long field on right side of site. This year we were put on hard standing near to tent site and toilet. Every time someone went to toilet and used hand dryer we could hear it, the nose was terrible.

The site seams to be having a problem with the neighbors on both sides. Banging and horses and loud music.

Try it your self its a nice site if they sort this out. Pubs shops fish and chip shop very good in village. £14. 00 a night may.

We stayed at Serenity for the first time this year and despite the weather (gales, blizzards, rain) we had a great time.

The owners were really friendly and helpful, even when I gave Nigel a black eye when our caravan door banged against his face in the wind one evening.

Couldn't understand the complaint about road noise from the village. We didn't hear anything except the sound of distant waves.

Facilities were always completely spotless, despite the site slowly turning into a mudbath due to the sheer volume of rain/sleet/snow and showers an equal match in power and heat to the best hotels that I have stayed in.

Local shop/post office supplies the basics and there was also a butcher in village, which is a rare treat nowadays, plus 2 pubs. Nearby Runswick Bay is a fabulous little place and was great for walking the dogs along the beach. I can imagine, in summer, it will be a very popular place for families, as there are some lovely sands and rockpools when the tide is out.

There are lovely walks from the site in all directions.
