Just back from this excellent little site - it is what is says - predominantly adults, quiet, scenic, helpful, clean, tidy, and near to the wonderful North York Moors.

There were children, but well behaved, with sensitive parenting. And ducks. Can't forget the ducks

Surrounding area full of colour - both scenic and industrial heritage, if you go looking for it.

Skinningrove mine, look for the statue of the Pigeon Fancier by the chippy - Whitby - big shout for Fortunes smoke house by the steps.

Just had 3 very enjoyable nights at this lovely, well run site. Generous tent pitches, clean toilet/shower blocks (although only 2 showers in each block can mean waiting at 'peak' times), good washing up facilities, + fridge/freezer and microwave use.

Quite a lot of children and dogs on site, but all very well behaved. Would recommend 'Walk No 1' from reception, where there is a lot of local info. Staithes is a beautiful little spot, as are Sandsend and Runswick - but the hill down to Runswick Bay is a killer ! Whitby is about 9 miles away with a good bus service past the site, but if you are driving, then go early to get a parking place !

Ate at the Badger Hounds & the Brown Cow, - both do your average pub-grub meals, but we prefered the Brown Cow (good cask beer).

However, our best eating experience was at the 'Sentebale' bistro, just turn left as you leave the site and it is 50yds up the road. This is more expensive than the pubs, but well worth it for something a bit more special.

All in all a great little break away and we look forward to returning to see Pat and Nigel at Serenity in the not too distant future.

This is our second stay at this site and it is a pleasure to stay here. The peace and quiet is great the owners always helpful and pleasant, and facilities clean and well maintained.

The Brown Cow pub in the village is our best bet for a good feed, we have eaten there a few times and it is good but simple food (always a good plate full).

If you go down to Runswick Bay on an evening it is a nice place to walk off your barmeal (car park free after 18. 00pm) look for fossils or have a snifter in the little pub and watch the sunset.

As a place for re-charging your batteries for a few days there is none better.

A very good site for adults. The owners give you the freedom to act like sensible adults and do not try to supervise your stay. The tent pitches are very large, with a good 100ft gap between you and the campers on the other side of the field.

Two fields one with a gentle slope. Facilities always very clean. There is a tent inspection every few hours by the squad of ducks and chickens that live on site.

Three pubs that we found, one appears to specialise for campers that want to be catered for.

Walks, two lovely walks, one down to Port Mulgrave, passing a pub that does afternoon teas. The other longer walk starts at Port Mulgrave and follows the cliffs round to Runswick, there you will find teas pubs etc. If that is all too much, you can get the bus back to the site, only one stop. Fuel at high street prices at the garage, The butcher caters for Bar-B-que packs and bits that you many run out of, including excellent home made bread.

Buses, twice an hour, best way to visit Whitby, which is only 8 miles away.

We will definitely return to this site again.

Would like to thank the owners for providing such a welcoming and brilliant site.

Everything was absolutely first class the toilets were always in pristine condition whether you visited at 6 in the morning or 10 at night,

Absolutely brilliant showers which always had plenty of hot water well worth the 20p would of been willing to pay more,

The kitchen area was excellent with plenty of sinks, washing machines and a plenty big enough fridge/freezer.

Excellent location for exploring the whole of that area of the coast from staithes to filey and inland on the north yorks moors.

I wonder what constitutes a 'predominantly adult' site? No children unless friends of the owner perhaps? There was certainly a child in residence in the 'van directly opposite us when we arrived.

The site is in a terrific location although the field is extremely undulating causing us a few problems with getting things level and an extremely tight entrance both the one from the main road and the entrance onto the actual field.

We didn't find the brochures a previous reviewer refers to - perhaps they were in the washing up area which we didn't use.

Two excellent pubs just across the road both serving excellent food almost all day and evening and a super fish and chip shop too. Whilst there was never any shortage of hand wash or toilet rolls, the facilities didn't look as though they had been 'bottomed' for a while, getting rather a 'lick and a promise' and feminine disposal and dog excretia bins were both overflowing.

We were on a pitch directly behind an adjoining field with horses and people were attending the horses several times a day on noisy quad bikes and their language was somewhat colourful - not Serenity's fault in any way but not ideal for us. So overall pretty good but room for improvement in the little things.

We have used this site before in a tent but thought we would give it a go in our caravan. It is an ideal get away from it all site, peaceful and relaxing.

We only stayed two nights due to work commitments - would have loved to have stayed longer, nipped into Whitby which is only a few miles away.

Facilities were spotless, showers nice and hot, owners very friendly but they leave you to enjoy your holiday.

Only 6 amps on the electric but we used the gas kettle and did not trip it at all with our other electrical equipment. We had the pitch called the railway which is at the back of the main field so we effectively had a small field to ourselves.

We love this site and will be returning.

We booked on to Serenity for 10 nights mainly because of the reviews on this site - we were not disappointed. We are members of the C&CC and rate the facilities here as good as any club site and at almost half of the cost.

OK, there aren't as many toilets and showers but we did not have to queue for either the male or female facilities or the washing up area and they were always spotless. Although we did not use them there were food preparation areas, a fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machines and dryers.

The site and both village pubs are dog friendly although we only tried the Brown Cow as it served meals every day as opposed to the Badger Hounds that served meals Thur / Fri / Sat / Sun.

I did not notice any road noise during the night as mentioned in some reviews although there was a noise like a generator some nights that sounded as though it may have come from a nearby facility.

My wife was taken ill during our our stay at Serenity and the owners booked a doctors appointment for us and checked up on us from time to time, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Unfortunately my wife was not improving so we decided to cut our stay short, when I went to inform the owners they credited us with two nights stay to use later in the year which they did not have to do and was a lovely gesture.

There was only one drawback to Serenity for me, the EHU is only 6 amps. I had to unplug the fridge and tv to boil one litre of water, in fact, it tripped out so often that in the end I got the gas kettle out and used that.

In conclusion I wish that all private sites could be run as well as Serenity, that would give the two big clubs a run for their money.

What a beautiful camp site. We booked with two of our friends in their caravans and as my wife and i we were staying the full week, the owners put us on one of the hard standing pitches, which has its own water and waste facilities. It has a bbq area along side your pitch.

The site is well laid out with nice toilets and showers. It has a nice kitchen area for pot washing.

We had a very nice meal at the brown cow pub across the road.

Runswick bay has a nice beach but the car park is very small, but be warned the hill is very steep if walking down.

Would definitely stay here again in the future.

What a fabulous site! The owners were very welcoming and friendly; making us feel at home from the moment we arrived.

The facilities are fabulous - lots of thought has clearly gone into what people may want/need whilst they are staying at the site. Aside from 2 sinks for pots, the 'washing up room' also contains a microwave, washing machine, hand washing sink and tumble drier (V useful in wet weather!).

The toilet block for the ladies has 3 toilets, 2 showers and a separate sink cubicle. In between the ladies and mens facilities there is also a separate room/area for ladies to dry their hair etc.

Although the site was busy the 3 nights we stayed there was never a queue for the facilities.

The site is situated in a village with 2 pubs within 5 mins walk. Both offer food and were friendly.

I would highly recommend this site to anyone who wants to 'get away from it all'. We will definitely be returning again later this year.
