I was visting family in Hastings and we like camping so we booked for 3 nights at Park Farm in Bodiam, which is a pretty little village.
Although not within walking distance of shops on an evening, the description of the camp site sounded very appealing.
Ok. So we knew this wasn't a 5* site when we booked for the August Bank Holiday weekend in 2007. The camping area itself was fine, we could have our campfire and marshmallows! The most important thing which let it down was the the shower blocks and toilets.
The toilets all worked fine and the doors all locked, BUT there was no hot water to wash your hands. Only a cold tap?! This is not a good way to wash your hands after using the loo or building fires. The floor wasnt swept and there was dirty marks on doors and in my cubicle there was blood on the floor.
In the 3 days we stayed (we ended up leaving a day early due to the dirt), I never witnessed anyone either cleaning or mopping any of the sinks/showers/floors.
In the ladies block there were 5/6 showers. 3 really old ones with mouldy shower curtains and 3 much newer ones. Needless to day everyone queued for the newer ones. But even when you got into a shower (which had as much power as a dripping tap) you came out feeling unclean. There was so much mud and hair all over the floor it was very offputting.
When we arrived it was like this, and when we left it was like this.

Me, my partner and 3 friends stayed here for a weekend, preparing for Reading Festival the month after.
We didnt have very high expectations, so was really suprised when we found the showers had hot water, and were free. Yes they were a bit muddy in places, but the campsite was packed, and we were probably some of the last people to use them that day, so it is to be expected really. We was also really superised with the atmosphere, it was really fun and welcoming. We played frisbee most afternoons and other groups were playing cricket and other games, and there was always plenty of room for everyone.
As I already said there was a lot of people there, but it wasn't cramped, and we didnt have to queue for long for any of the facilities. And even though there was a few groups playing music, it was never loud enough to be a problem and no one played their music past 11-12ish, the only thing that kept me up was the thunder storm we had one night!
The only real downside is that it is far from the shops and train station, so a car is essential.
We are planning to go again in 2008, and I cant wait! It was everything I hoped for in a campsite.

I noticed a lot of negative reviews about this site, but because my friends and I wanted a site which allowed camp fires we decided to risk it. We had a marvellous time, admittedly we were lucky with the weather so the ground was dry, judging by the deep furrows, and tyre marks in places I would imagine the place got quite boggy during wet weather.
The site was at the end of a very quiet country road so only camp site visitors used it, therefore there was absolutely no traffic noise. We could pitch where we liked, providing access to other users was not blocked. We were quite a large party so we were able to arrange our tents and all cars quite neatly in a circle. The surrounding countryside was quite beautiful, and with many public footpaths this is an ideal site for those wanting to explore the area. The facilities were adequate, none of us had to queue for showers, toilets, wash up etc, and the site was very busy, so this was a pleasant surprise. Water was hot, and toilets quite clean, they didn't have nice sparkly ceramic tiles and the floor was plain old concrete, but they served their purpose. The kids absolutely loved the play area, this was in a disused barn and swings had been hung from the metal girders, a fairly decent zipslide was also provided. (not really suitable for very little children.) The nearest shop is about 2 miles away, so its a good idea to take all your immediate needs with you.
All in all this site provided us with a wonderful weekends camping experience. I admit I also like campsites which are better looked after but on this occasion Park Farm suited us well, it is a working farm first and foremost so you can't expect too much in the way of personal attention, and the price reflects this, so if you dont mind roughing it a bit, and going a little bit tribal for a while then this place is ideal.

Having arrived Friday lunch time for the start of the Bank Holiday Weekend we found a nice grassy pitch and set up camp, thinking what a beautiful location and nice campsite it was. We had in total 6 pitches with a mixture of young children, couples and the fact that we could have fires was an added bonus! Having camped at several sites on Bank Holiday weekend we expected it to be busy but not as busy as this site. With hindsight the fact that no deposit was required may have given us a taster for what to expect. The site quickly filled and by early evening fires were burning all around with loud music, singing and a karaoke machine/party which went on for 2 of the nights. The fire next to our pitch got bigger each night and we were worried for the safety of the site and our tents along with our children being scared to sleep.(The fire and party lasted into sunrise!) The facilities for the size of the campsite were appalling and on saturday morning, toilets were not flushing, there was no hot water and showers had no water pressure. The majority of the time the showers were covered in mud from children having mud fights in them. Dogs ran freely on all fields and dog poo was all over the site. All in all it was our worst camping experience. If you fancy a party weekend with limited facilities then this is the site. It is such a shame as with a little better management and better facilities it could be a fab site. The location is great with Bodiam Castle and the steam railway within walking distance. What a disappoitment

Arrived for our first camping trip with the new tent, 3 kids and wife on Friday of the August Bank Holiday. 2nd field was empty when we arrived but it very quickly filled up with other campers. As others have said, this was a very noisy site but it didn't bother us and actually added to the atmosphere. The opportunity to light campfires was great. All the kids loved the fact that we could lay outside the tent next to a roaring fire until late (Take wood with you as it's hit and miss getting it at the site) The walk to Bodiam Castle was definitely not 20 minutes and given the fact that it was the hottest day of the year, we welcomed the 'Castle Inn' at the end of it. Fishing on the Rother was brilliant and local scenery was beautiful By far, the worst part of the trip was the really poor showers and toilets. Cold, ineffective and at times absolutely disgusting because the kids had got carried away in the various muddy puddles in the area. Washing up area was clean, tidy and the water was warm. All in all, a simple site. Made by the campfire options. Definitely worth a go if you don't mind roughing it a bit.

Just returned from Park Farm after a very sunny and therefore very busy Bank Hol weekend. We had chosen the site due to being able to have a camp fire and the fact that it is fairly close. Had received a friendly email in response to an enquiry saying we had 'a pitch reserved', so were surprised to arrive and find it a free for all, with at least four huge fields open for campers to go where they liked. The owners were friendly enough though. Our five year old did like the play area, which was not suitable for younger kids - all the play equipment was for older children. The spar shop, about 10 mins drive away was a great place to stock up on pretty much everything. Only wood is sold on the camp site. Although we had an ok weekend (we did leave a night early) and enjoyed the fires and the festival type atmosphere, this really is a site for caravans or campers with own facilities. The toilet and wash block was really below par, as 11(not brilliant) showers and not too many more loos, for all the hundreds of people there was really pretty poor, especially as they were caked in mud, so I decided to come home for a good wash! My husband braved the men's shower as the queue was not so long, and said it was just a trickle. (I had spoken to one of the owners who was saying how they couldn't keep on top of the cleaning and basically blamed it on the grubby people who did not clean up after themselves. I wonder how it is that other sites manage?!) Also, new staff for 2007? Where were they? Did not see anyone other than for taking money for pitch or for wood. Highly unlikely to go back, which is a shame as with a few more (Cleaner) facilities, it would be great.

I found this site when looking for a campsite suitable for my family to spend 5 nights. I had read the reviews you will find below and although some of them were less than complimentary and my instincts said not to book; following a conversation with the owner where I expressed the concerns and comments made in the reviews. She reasurred me explaining she was fully aware of the less than complimentary comments and had actually added her own report saying they were now under new management and the site had improved. There were no permenant campers etc etc. We arrived and were told to find a pitch where we could, we had booked a EHU, which the site warden had to ask what that was, once explained she directed me to the only 'space', which was on a very steep side slope where half of our tent would be on the dirt road, she agreed this was not suitable and suggested we have a drive around. We did, most of the tents had windbreaks set out to form 'gardens' around there tent, which joined to the next and so on, these tents were clearly permenant residence. To say it looked like a cross between 'Greenham Common and a refugee camp would be an understatment. We stopped and spoke to several of what looked like genuine holiday makers and all were either leaving site early or sadly in one case it had been their first experience of camping and were considering the whole experience a disaster. The play area and toilet block were both health hazards for differing reasons. With the children excited we were left in the difficult position of 'do we stay or do we run', we called another campsite in Biddenden and luckily they had space for us and friends coming down the next day. I would say to anyone thinking of booking this site to think long and hard, if you are a group of teenagers looking for some fun and not been hassled about noise and litter. This is the site for you. They did give us our money back and the other campsite was fantastic ( and cheaper). I was so incensed having been reassured by the owner that the site was different now, to find this was not the case< I have returned and registered on this site just to warn others.

Stayed 2 nights to watch Eastbourne airshow and was extremely disappointed with the site. The facilities are not in the best of condition and the showers, whilst hot and free, were not very good and nothing was kept very clean. The site itself is a number of open fields and seemed to attract very loud groups. Whilst there was a policy of no noise after 11.00 pm, this was not enforced and the music eventually finished at 3.00am on the first night and 7.00am on the second! Needless to say I won't be going back.

Beautiful spot to camp and some really good walks. Nice walk (20-30 minutes) along the river Rother to Bodium Castle and also the Castle pub which does good food and also sells free range eggs! Shame about the dis-organisation of the campsite, rules are not enforced i.E. Dogs are allowed to roam the field and do their business early morning and late afternoon! Some dog owners are considerate and clean up. Weekends are heaving with campers, there does not seem to be a limit on how many people are allowed to camp. There must be a health and safety issue here as there is only 1 shower block (6 showers) and 1 toilet block each for men and ladies no matter how many people are camping. I will camp there again as it is an ideal place especially being able to have camp fires.

This could be the worst large camp site in Great Britain - and the most profitable. The site is massive but so are the number of people who turned up. In fact there may have been 500 tents around us on Saturday night adding up to maybe 2000 people. And how many toilet cubicles do they have in the Men's, 10, 8? Not even close - they have 3. Oh but you may say men need urinals - they probably have a lot of those. Answer is 2. And to say they are basic is to the word a dis-service. I haven't queued this long for a toilet since the old Wembley came down.
And this place isn't cheap, £26 for a family of 6 means they are making a few quid per night. And apart from few toilets what other facilities do we get for our cash. Well no toilet paper, no shop, no laundry, no staff asking people to stop singing at 5am let alone at 12pm. This is definitely a basic area for people who missed out on Glastonbury and want to have all the experience without the benefits of the music.
So Negatives are:3 toilets, no facilities, zero to 1 staff, no shop, Noisy
Positives : Massive, Campfires allowed, makes all other campsites look better.
