I have just returned home from spending a few days here with my family. We had a lovely and memorable time at Park Farm.

The "plus" points for us were :
- being allowed to use camp fires, which was fascinating and fun for the children, and also made any cold or wet weather entirely bearable
- the under cover play area, great in inclement weather
- the friendly / relaxed management, clientele & general atmosphere

But on the downside, the toilets / showers were inadequate :
- they were not always clean enough, more frequent cleaning would help
- they were not user-friendly, some extra fixtures would help (rubber mats on the shower floor, somewhere to place your clothes while showering, a shelf for your belongings, mop / brush etc .)

On the whole though we had a great time and I can recommend a stay at Park Farm. The "hope festival" at the end of our stay was an added bonus.

But for us to return we would like to see improved shower / toilet facilities.

One of the other reviewers here was right : some small improvements could make the world of difference.

Had  a super time at this campsite. Went on 2nd May bank holiday. Camp site was packed but very friendly. Loos were a bit over worked as were the showers and the washing up room.Loads of logs so could have a camp fire every night Loved the laid back attitude of the two young owners. Like the fact that you could pitch where you liked. Great long walk to the castle although pub was over priced. Would definatley go back as was so relaxed even with all the rain. Thanks for a great time :-)

Having read the feedback we took a chance on this site as it is easy for us to get to. The lady I spoke was rather vague when I called and said there were hard standings on a first come first served basis and although I did book an EHU when we got there, we really had to hunt for a spare socket as they were all taken! It is a basic site on two large fields with toilet and loo block in the middle. It's a great location and the scenery is lovely. Yes, it was busy as it was the bank holiday but I have been to busier! The only down side is that the cars are allowed to drive too fast and they could do with some speed signs. However, it is very relaxed. No numbered pitches which some people like, some prefer a more structured approach. There are lots of people there who keep their touring caravans on site all season all around the edges of the site (near all the EHUs and water taps!). They seemed very friendly but can make lots of noise as they all congregate together for parties etc! As we were in a motorhome, we were protected from the noise but one crowd were partying until 2am so I am glad we weren't in a tent! We didn't really have to use the on-site loos or washing up facilities much so I can't really comment but on the couple of occasions we did, they were fine (especially for a busy bank holiday.) Yes the fires are lovely and the kids really enjoyed themselves - a great plus point is that the play area is under cover. All in all, we would go again but not on a bank holiday - the owners were very nice but not very organised and some small improvements could make the world of difference without spoiling anything. And I think they should have been a bit stricter about noise.

Went over the first May Bank Holiday, and although I was expecting it to be busy, it was absolutely heaving. Because you can pitch where you like (which is usually a good thing) it means there’s no such thing as the campsite being full, and it appeared to me that no one was turned away, they just let more and more in: it looked like Glastonbury. Their website suggested a tight clampdown on music after 11am, but this wasn’t universally obeyed, and the site covers quite a few acres, so it would be easy to avoid any wardens (not that I saw any). Some other campers seemed to show little consideration for others, with revellers still carousing gone 3am. It’s not a campsite for peace and quiet. The facilities weren’t good. The men’s loos only had one cold tap, and no soap. The end toilet had lost 2 of its screws (the ones that keep it anchored to the floor.) so that when I sat on it it nearly tilted over to the right! There area around was wet, presumably with leaked human excrement. There was plenty of hot water in the (good) washing up area, and there was hot water in the showers. It was almost impossible to buy wood, as the chap simple served anyone with cash, rather than serving those that had pledged an order earlier in the day. And if, like me, you like to forage for wood, there’s very little woodland nearby in which to forage. The kids play area wasn’t rated very highly by my 11 and 9 year olds. And their road-side sign comes after the turning (when approaching from one direction) meaning you’re almost guaranteed to miss the turning. The walk to Bodiam castle is excellent – a gentle stroll for half an hour along the banks of the river, so the site is well situated, and I’m sure at less busy times it would have been much more enjoyable. And allowing fires and dogs is a plus.

Just returned from what was an excellent weekend camping. Six adults and six children.

Fantastic friendly owners, very helpful and supplied lots of logs for our fire. The trick is to get the logs early in the day rather than leave it to the last minute.
It was a large campsite with a relaxed atmosphere- perfect for families and groups.

Turn up and pitch where you want,

Toilets were clean, showers were clean. Washing up facilities were great.

Yes the site was busy but we expected that - it was a bank holiday.

Children quickly made friends and were off playing for most of the holiday.

Built a lovely fire as did most people, did not notice a problem obtaining logs. If the owner does run out there is a garage in the nearby town that had them for sale ( a lot more expensive than the site but worth a shot if the owner does run out )

We took a lovely walk along the river to the castle (fantastic for kids ) and pub and the children really enjoyed it.
The only downside is that we could not stay longer.

Fantastic weekend had by all - would definately return.

Have just returned from this site (early) after what was planned to be a relaxing family weekend and ended up more like being at the Glastonbury festival ! I have never witnessed so many people on a campsite and it was quite obvious that the site could not cope. There were queues out the door for the limited number of showers that were dirty and had cold water most of the day. The water pressure was so low you practically had to run around to get wet avoiding the mud and grass on the floor ! The toilets had a similar poor standard of hygiene with the men’s being a porta-cabin. Washing up involved a similar queue followed by cold water and I won’t go into the state of the chemical waste point, let’s just say it was like a swimming pool of floating toilet waste as the drain was blocked. The pitches were messy with burnt out remains of camp fires and all around there was there was the constant noise of music from the various areas. The area we were in had some hard standing, but this was really a mess of broken concrete in amongst the grass. On our second night the electric went off and was not fixed until the early hours of the morning, again I would guess like most things, it was just not up to the volume of people.

On the positive side, the owners were lovely and very helpful, but you really got the impression that they just couldn’t cope. The fact that you can have a campfire was very nice and surely the only attraction of this site. It’s just a shame that they ran out of logs so many people couldn’t even have what they had probably come for. This is most definitely not a site for families, but great if you want to feel like you are in the sixties hippy era, sitting round a campfire with music and noise from all directions. We made the BIG mistake of not reading the feedback and having done this on my return I would absolutely agree with one of the other members who said ‘trust what other campers say !’

A friend recommended this campsite to myself as you could have campfires and not many places allow you to do this anymore. We turned up without booking to see for ourselves what it was like. We drove in and spoke with some permanent residents who were extremely friendly and showed us where everything was and where we could pitch, (which was basically anywhere) There was a nice atmosphere around the site, very relaxing. We took the dog out for a long walk around the countryside and finished up in the pub for some dinner, again very laid back atmosphere dogs welcomed in and given water.

When we arrived back at the campsite late evening we lit the fire using the logs we had purchased earlier from the site owners, all you could hear was quite nattering all around the campsite.  We had such a lovely relaxing time, thank-you.

We have recommended this site to many a friend who have since used it and thought the same as us, the facilities are basic but if you are into your camping, what does it matter, at the end of the day it is what you make of it.

After 30 years of running Park Farm Camping, Richard Bailey has handed over the reins to his daughter and son-in-law. We aim to improve the site and ensure that all visitors to the site have a fun and relaxed stay.

We have upgraded the site for 2007 by installing a new drive and more electric hook ups, a secure gated intercom system and full time staff to keep the facilities clean and to help make a presence and answer any questions. The children's play area also has new wood chip flooring, with safety in mind.

We deliver logs for campfires to your pitch and also sell barbeques.

We have noted any complaints that visitors may have had in the past and have taken steps to alleviate these concerns. The noisier crowd have not been allowed back this year and we check that music is not played after 11pm. We do not have campers 'living' on site and now have many happy guests.

We would appreciate any positive reviews to help improve our reputation. Over 80% of our guests are return visitors and everyone always says what a wonderful place it is - so please post one on www.ukcampsite.co.uk!

This was our first ever Camping Trip, and it was absolutely fantastic.

The site really was huge, with the toilet block at the centre. We did go end of September which would explain why it was very empty, so I can't help much with summer holiday periods.

The site has some picnic benches with you can pull over to your tent so you have somewhere to eat which is a nice feature, and there are a lot of rubbish points which is also very handy.

The toilet blocks weren't sparkly clean but they also weren't dirty, there were lots of toilets and sinks, so even at peak capacity I think you'd be okay. However there were a lot of daddy long legs in there . Probably the time of year. The site has absolutely no lighting, good for sleeping, bad for a dash to the loo if you forget the torch!

The site is ideally located for Bodiam Castle, Hastings, and access to further Kent towards deal and Dover with plenty of English Heritage Properties, which makes it an ideal touring base.

On entering the site don't be put off by the permanent residents, ranging from new age travellers to those with their st George flags on poles and fences around their caravans. At the time we were there four large fields were open giving you the freedom to pitch your tent literately hundreds of yards away from other campers. One of the features which makes this site stand out from others is that camp fires are allowed. Timber can be obtained from local woods giving you the opportunity from some bush craft. The site gets much busier at weekends and can take on a festival atmosphere with fires of varying sizes and music coming from all corners of the site. You just can't beat sitting around the burning embers until the early hours with a bottle of your favourite wine.

The toilet block had showers with hot water and although basic they were clean. After a memorable stay at this site I will be back next year.
