We have just returned from 8 nights at the Upper Hurst Farm caravan site and found it to be as good, if not better, than we had hoped. The site is located amidst beautiful rural countryside and the view from every window in the caravan was wonderful.
If you are looking for somewhere tranquil with lovely walks on the doorstep then this is the place for you. Beresford Dale is a 10 minute walk in one direction, the Manifold Trail is 15 minutes in another and the lovely village of Hartington is less than 2 miles away.
The site is clean, well maintained (further upgrading was taking place while we were there) and not overcrowded. The 24 caravan pitches are set out around the perimeter of the site with most of the middle left clear giving the place a very 'open' feel. The utilities block was always spotlessly clean and warm; and free Wi-Fi is available within the building.
Sue, the owner, was most helpful and an excellent host. This is her first season and she is determined to make Upper Hurst Farm the ideal place to stay. Eggs, bacon and a few other items can be purchased from 'Frank's Shoppe' (the Farm House) with additional requirements being met by the stores in Hartington or at Hulme End.
There are good eating places just a short drive away. The Jug & Glass (on the A515) offers value for money food which we enjoyed; but for something more upmarket we would thoroughly recommend the Biggin Hall Hotel in the village of Biggin. We had lunch there, the food was outstanding and the hotel is beautiful.
Upper Hurst Farm deserves to succeed, our only reluctance to submitting this review is the fear that when we try to book in again the site will be full!

Lovely campsite
Big spacious pitches, tap on the pitch, shower block easily 5 star standard.
Lovely location just outside hartington
The site is open and spacious but pitches have trees behind them to give shelter. Nice views across open fields
There is a small shop on site selling eggs and meat
We arrived with a large motorhome plus car and 2 dogs.
Pitches are very easy to get into and level hardstanding
The site managers/owners are really welcoming and friendly
We will be returning

We stayed for a long weekend on this fantastic sight! We had EHU, the check in was simple, the site was lovely and the owners great.
The new shower block and toilets are second to none, very clean, pupose built and the squeezy floor clean gadget a great asset!
The recycling facilities are great- a bin for everything!
The views from the campsite are lovely and the surroundings very peaceful and relaxing. The nearby village of Hartington is lovely and access to lots of walking too!
We will return for sure

Last minute booking on a Friday morning for that night. Very friendly and helpful people, the owners greeted us and helped us set up. Only our second time in our caravan having tented for years, so a little help was much appreciated.
Site is sloping but the pitches are levelish, we just needed a two inch plank under one wheel. Has a proper in-the-middle-of-nowhere feel.
Brand new facilities block is very good, although didn't use the kitchen/potwash area.
Looking forward to a definite re-visit.

The negatives- For me the washing up water could do with being a little hotter, hence one less star. The peace was disturbed by the noise from a nearby farm of barking dogs. The dogs appeared to be chained up on the farms driveway for most of the day and night.
There were many more positives - Lovely site with friendly staff. The toilet and shower facilities were excellent. Able to do many walks straight from the campsite. We didn't like the pub in Hulme End but Hartington is only a little further to walk and the Devonshire Arms has a traditional pub feel, friendly service and good reasonably priced food. We also walked from the campsite to pubs in Sheen and Wetton and had good food so there is plenty of choice.

We've just spent a fantastic few days at this site. As we are new to caravanning, I'm pleased to say that our experience was a good one here. Hubby and I along with our 3 staffies thoroughly enjoyed it.
The pooches really appreciated the field that they were able to be run around on. Yes there is a slope, but I feel sure that because of the area, this is what you'd expect.
The toilets and shower block was exceptional. Lovely hot showers.
All in all, a lovely site with fantastic views and nice big pitches. Well worth the £21 a night price. And we'd deffo go back!

We have just spent a week at this campsite. Delightful site with fantastic panoramic views.
All facilities were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, who clearly take a great pride in their campsite. Loved the fact that there were no 'DO NOT. ' signs anywhere, made us feel that we were welcome at the site, not an inconvenience. Recycling facilities were really well thought out, showers and toilets were brilliant.
Woke each morning to the sounds of the countryside, not the traffic - bliss.
Excellent location for lots of things to do for all the family, we walked on the Tissington Trail and in Dovedale, had a day at Alton Towers, even spent one day just sat on the campsite as it was so peaceful and relaxing. Can't wait to return

This is a cracking site built on a slight slope with stunning views If you don't like this one, give up camping. We spent one week here in our trailer tent and wished it had been longer. The proprietor, Sue and Rob are very welcoming and helpful The toilet block facilities are excellent, modern and very clean. Shower cubicles are large and free of charge. Also a very good separate room for pot washing complete with washing machines and dryer.
The super hard standing pitches have electrical hook up, clean water tap and grey water drainage facility.
This area is a walkers and cyclists paradise with walking straight from the site. In the village there is a visitor centre, with cafe which is situated at the start of the Manifold Valley Trail. The local pub, The Manifold Inn has good food and ale and there is a small shop.
Hartington village is two miles away with good pubs, village store, cheese shop and cafe. Cycles can be hired along the Manifold Trail and the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail a little further afield. Can't wait to return here, hopefully in September. Dennis and Stephanie Roberts, Shropshire

Sue & Rob were great welcoming hosts. They went out of there way to help us with our problems.
1. A Child needed first aid.
2. A consignment needed rapid cooling.
The facilities are awesome. Clean, in pristine condition and the showers are better than most 5* hotels and I always got in without waiting. Views out of this world. Cosy feel to campsite.
We completed local cycle trails along old railway tracks so level. Hartington is idyllic and the local YHA is well worth a visit for food. We arrived on Fri 20 when raining and even after 3 months rain thought site drainage was excellent. Stayed until Tues 24 July when mini heatwave and can vouch for site in sun also. In July I expected to be hit with a plague of insects but this did not happen. When talking to fellow campers amazing how many had stayed before which is amazing considering its only been open since April 12. I will be definitely returning again because so much to do. The cheese shop at Hartington is top notch and Farmer Frank at campsite has top notch local produce for breakfast and BBQ's

We have just returned from a weekend at Upper Hurst Farm, the first time camping for us for nearly 20 years, and it was a wonderful experience.
Sue and the warden were there to welcome us and help with electricity supply etc. Despite the rain, we pitched up easily on a generous plot, with water supply and electricity.
The site is not too big, with great shower facilities, heated floor and well equipped, and fellow campers and caravanners took equal care in cleaning up after themselves to make using the facilities a pleasure.
The views are lovely, and location perfect for discovering the surrounding areas, we found brilliant pubs both nights with great food. Very pet friendly too. , but dog waste bins tended to get full very quickly, and some bags ended up on the floor.
We are hooping to book again for this coming weekend.
