This campsite is an absolute gem. The toilet/shower/dishwashing facilities are the best we have ever had. Yvonne gets to know everyone on site without being intrusive. She ensures the site rules are maintained firmly and fairly, for the benefit of everyone, and always with a big smile. The site is excellent for children and people wanting to enjoy the peace and tranquility. We were a party of 8, 4 adults and 4 children with an age range of 2 to 13. Everyone wants to return. The playing field is just off the main camping area where the horses keep a watchful eye from a distance. Drums are provided to light campfires, and they are terrific (thanks Yvonne!). The picturesque village of Hartington is a reasonable walk away, and about 5 minutes in a car. The village store is delightful, and stocks all the essentials. Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock are all easily accessible for days out.

We were lucky to get a two night booking at short notice in the peak season. The site is in a lovely part of the Peak District, just over the Derbyshire border into Staffordshire: a location with great walks, good pubs and lots of wildlife. The site is new, having opened in 2013 and the thought that has gone into the design is obvious. The layout of the site gives great views, and the facilities block is of a super standard, with free showers, underfloor heating and a dedicated disabled/ family shower room. It was this latter feature that drew us as my husband is disabled and needs accessible facilities. We really appreciated that the accessible room was locked and a code was needed to get in; we have had too many experiences of finding disabled bathrooms/loos occupied by people who could use the ordinary facilities. There were also the usual men's/ ladies sides with three loos and three showers in each, and a kitchen type room with washing up facilities. All the showers and hot water were free which we prefer as it means that there are no hidden extras.
The other feature that drew us ( thanks to the UKCS online search facilities!) was that the site allows fires and BBQs, providing breeze blocks to raise them off the floor. The only pitch available was a super pitch with EHU and water and grey water disposal point, at £24 a night; the ordinary tent pitches were £20 and pitches with. EHU were£22. Sue the owner and her staff were welcoming, friendly and informative. The pitches are spacious so even when fully booked the site was not cramped. There are recycling facilities by the bins in the centre of the site, and a good pub is only a few minutes away (Manifold Inn).
There are lots of information posters and leaflets in the foyer area of the facilities block, and just about every need, interest and hobby is catered for. We went without children so are unable to comment directly on the child- friendliness of the site, but we noticed that there were all ages there and a playing field at the top of the site were ball games appeared to be in progress.
There is a rule about having no music after 10 pm and someone does the rounds just to check and also remind people who are leaving the next morning about the 11 am checkout time. The peace and quiet was amazing, and the attention to detail in terms of the maintenance of the site was lovely. We liked the absence of any site lighting, as it meant there was no light pollution to interrupt the views of starlit skies.
So if you want a calm and orderly rural retreat with excellent facilities, this site has much to offer, and we shall certainly return. Thank you to Sue and her team for a great service.

Just returned from a lovely few days at Upper Hurst Farm. Great site and we were lucky to have a pitch at the bottom end of the field giving us wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. We stayed longer than we intended, just couldn't drag ourselves away. Location is perfect for visiting Bakewell and Buxton as well as quaint villages surrounding the area. Our one gripe is of other campers. Unfortunately somebody (a child???) messed all over the floor of one of the gents toilet cubicles. I can only think it was a child (an adult wouldn't do that would they?) as it was just left for somebody else to clear up. Disgusting. Not a complaint of the campsite at all but if you are a camper with young kids please take responsibility for them!
Well done to the wardens for running a great site.

Lovely small site, friendly and helpful welcome to us. We had one of the best views of the countryside. We found Hartington lovely but it is a shame there isn't a footpath all the way on the main road as we went across fields with dogs and I'm not a fan of cows, especially when you have dogs!lovely village and views and we'd certainly visit Upper Hurst again

Our second visit to this lovely, well kept small site. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Nice and quiet away from main roads. Some children's play equipment in the middle of the tent area, sadly we had constant bickering from other people's children who couldn't be bothered to supervise them!showers, toilets, wash room very clean will return
Would be better if they had a separate area for adults

We had a great couple of nights stay here with the real Mr and Mrs Smith. The weather was great and we had a lovely walk into Hartington to the pub for lunch. Yvonne and Paul were really nice and very helpful, they make a big effort to ensure everybody is happy. We were very impressed with how clean and nice the toilets and shower block was.
Thanks very much for a lovely stay.
Would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning in the future.

A really lovely small site, immaculately kept with all facilities spotless and grass/grounds well kept. Well located for exploring lots of areas in the Peak District. Great range of leaflets/literature on what to do in the area made available for guests as well as details of local places to eat and maps.
We were shown our allocated pitch but as it was quiet were told that if we preferred a different one we could move - the one we had been given was ideal though.
Great dog walking area.
The only downsides are the resident peacock who while stunning and beautiful to listen to during normal daytime hours also likes to make his presence known later in the evenings and as soon as the sun is up in the mornings, also the number of showers - the site was very quiet while we were there but one morning I did have to queue for the showers as there are only three in the womens (and the same in the mens). I can imagine that when the site is full this could become an issue.

We were welcomed to the site and showed where to pitch. The site has both non-electric and hook-up available.
The hosts are brilliant very friendly, will help in any way and know all about the area.
The site is very well kept and the toilets and showers are exceptionally clean. The showers are free and you just turn the lever for lots of lovely hot water.
(there is another room to the side of the toilet block which has a freezer and other facilities but we did not go in)
The center of the field has a small playing area that is nice and safe for children.
There is a pub the Manifold Inn about 20 mins walk away that does nice food and is very pleasant.
It is well located for walking os visiting local places.
We enjoyed our stay even though the weather let us down and will be returning.

We visited for a weekend, arriving on Friday pm, after a delayed journey and were keen to pitch up. We were seen quickly but told there had been a price rise since taking our reservation. We had to pay the difference. Less jaded from the journey and we would have disputed this, if you book the railway in advance you don't end up paying a walk up fare.
We were shown to our pitches which happened to be a very small area. In pointing out we were 4 tents, 2 trailers and 20 people. The site wardens were very obliging in giving us more space.
Unfortunately the site owner was close to hostile. One child went to the toilet at 0630 and being a 7 year old boy decided to kick a football on his way. He was brought in, told off and no one else was up until after 0700. Other campers were up and about at this time. Children being up at this time shouldn't be a surprise. Certainly lots of adults were.
The children made far less noise than the ruddy great peacock in the farmyard. If I had a decent peacock recipe in my camping cookbook I'd have put it to better use than disturbing the entire site throughout the day and night. Better suited to older people with caravans than tents/families with children.
That said, the facilities were very good and on site wardens friendly.
The owner suggested the peacock was lovely. So are our children. Who collectively make far less noise.

What a little gem, lovely site very clean and well kept. The surrounding areas and walks are second to none. The wardens met us when we arrived and made sure we were set up and settled and were very helpful. We had a fully serviced pitch so had no need to use the facilities but we had a look round and they were spotless. There are plenty of walks from the site into Derbyshire so ideal for the rambler or dog walker. Would use again and they are open all year so considering for the Christmas break. Highly recommended
