Have just bought a conway carmargue, and this was our 1st site. Absolutely excellent, well laid out, our pitch was next to the stream that the kids loved, good play area near to reception. showers and toilets very clean and plenty of. 20p gets you about 5mins hot water. shop is a basic portakabin but okay, people were very friendly at all times, had to borrow owners bolt cutters (forgot to take key for padlocks on stove). Excellent pub in wentnor village called Crown brilliant food and drink, don't go to the one at the entrance thought i'd walked into a reunion of the deliverance clan(lol)will be going again soon.

August 2005 This is a lovely campsite. It was our favourite site from our hols this year. The pitches were very spacious and the ground was level. There is a nice stream running down the back of where we chose to pitch our tent.
It was 20p for the showers and if you need to use the washing machine it will cost you £2.50 for a token from the shop/ reception.
We would definitely go back to this site.

August 2005 What a lovely site. We will definitely be going back. The facilities are very good and the loos and showers are exremely clean and plentiful. We were able to pitch where we wanted. The children loved the stream which they enjoyed getting wet in, don't forget the wellies.

July 2005 Fantastic weekend with the weather and company - the campsite wasn't too bad either. It is a large site though the way it is laid out makes you feel it is just you and a couple of others. The toilets and showers were clean and are plentiful. A lovely place to camp with lots of beautiful countryside to explore.

April 2005 We visited this site at the begining of the season and it was our first time out with a new 'van. The site is lovely and level and the grass is well cut but was wet and a bit muddy due to the weather the previous week. The shop was not exactly well stocked but had all the basics and the staff were freindly and helpful. The facilities were clean and certainly not lacking in quantity.
Only two problems we found with the site - firstly it is a long way to emty waste water......a VERY long way if you site the van where we did! The other problem is not to do with the site but important if having a pub close by is why you choose a site - we went in the pub at the top of the drive and it was more like a youth club plus the smoke was horrendous (I do not object to smokey pubs but this was BAD).
The site itself is very picturesque, very dog friendly with a good dog walk and plenty of dog bins.
We will certainly be going back to this site.

June 2005 What a great place to take your family. We first visited this site May Bank Holiday and liked it so much we have just been again and have booked for a whole week in August. The site is well laid out and child friendly. Our children loved playing the the shallow stream that runs through the site. The toilet/shower block is spottlessly clean and well maintained. Even when the site is full there is no need to queue for the showers as there are plenty. This year the non electric pitches have been marked out to help people pitch sensibly and this works very well, the pitches are plenty big enough for a caravan or large tent. This is a very relaxing and well run site. There is a small shop that stocks essentials it is open from 9am to about 8pm and just across the road is a post office which has a slightly larger stock. There is also a pub just at the entrance to the site and another a short walk up the hill into the village. It is only a short drive to the lovely market town of Ludlow where you can visit the castle and the famous "one off" food shops. This site is great for people who enjoy a walk as it nestles between the Longmynd and Stiperstones. Looks like this will be one of our regular trips. Thanks to Karen the owner for making it a great place to go.

April 2005 Just got back from visiting this site for the weekend. It is a really lovely site. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We arrived after the shop had closed but had already been told when we telephoned that we could just pitch up where we wanted and then pay in the morning. There was plenty of room and I can imagine that even on a busy weekend there would be plenty of space for each unit.
We pitched by the river which was a bit on the muddy side but it has been very wet the past week or so. It was so picturesque to look at the river whilst we ate our breakfast. It is a very dog friendly site, with plenty of space to walk the dogs and bins to dispose of doggy rubbish in.
The toilet and shower facilities were very clean and plenty of them. The only draw back being that they were all in one block in the centre of the site which could mean quite a walk. The only downside was the waste water and rubbish disposal, it would have been nice if there was waste water and rubbish disposal by the water taps rather that having the trek all the way to the central point, however this is a minor gripe and certainly wouldn't stop us going back again. Overall a great site.

March 2005 Well, having read all the reviews and looked at the web site we decided to go to this site for Easter. I'm beginning to wonder if we went to the same site as everybody else!
We were very disappointed - but then it all depends on what you want.
We had trouble finding the site from the main road as it isn't signposted from the way we came in.
I have never seen so much mud in my life - OK, the owners can't be held responsible for the rain, but they could have laid the roadway perhaps, which wouldn't detract from their claim to be "conservationists". They are obviously used to the mud because they bring the caravans in and out with a tractor! Somebody told us that they were supposed to be doing something about the drainage for this year but they obviously haven't.
The track to the dog walk was just boggy and pretty treacherous and the dog walk itself wasn't clearly marked which field it was in and the bin was at the beginning.
We thought the toilet / amenity block needed serious up-dating - and there was no sign on the outside. It was clean, which is the best that can be said for it. The block is in roughly the middle of the site and it's a huge site and a bit of a hike if you're up the far end, which we were.
The chemical disposal was under a manhole in the ground which you had to lift the cover off and we couldn't find a waste water point at all.
The shop did seem to be open at reasonable hours, though, although it carried very little stock.
The good points are the spacious pitches and the pub beside the entrance which allows dogs and serves good food.
There are beautiful views if you go up on the surrounding hills but on the site there is nothing but the caravan opposite you. There are better views from the camping fields.
How it ever got a David Bellamy award I will never know. They are not conserving anything - they are just letting it go.
As I say, it all depends on what you are looking for - we don't want "all mod cons" but we've been on other fairly basic sites and they've been a lot better than this. We certainly wouldn't go back.

August 2004 This is a truly lovely site. It has received several David Bellemy Conservation Awards and you can see why. Set across several fields - some with hook-up and some without - the site is immaculate. A long list of birds and wildlife seen on the site was pinned up in the launderette.
The site was by no means over crowded - it was the middle of August and in some fields there were only one or two tents or caravans.
We pitched our tent in one of the hook-up fields right next to the "river" (actually little more than a stream) under the trees. There were a couple of sheep across the stream, and we heard all sorts of different birdsong - it was idyllic.
The toilet and shower facilities were spacious, clean and accessible to all - there were even fresh flowers in the Ladies' toilets! Staff on this site were extremely friendly and paid great attention to detail.
It was a very quiet family site - after about 9.30 the only sounds you can hear are quiet conversations, the babbling of the stream and the odd sheep.
I would recommend this site to anyone!

August 2004 Bank holiday weekend. Had a fab time. Mixed age group of 14 in 6 tents. We had a very friendly reception. Could pitch where we fancied in the designated field. it had rained for about 10 days previously and we couldn't believe the ground was still so good for pitching the tent. We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed the rolling scenery. I think someone mentioned that it's in the middle of nowhere which unnerved me a bit, but the landscape and villages were delightful. if it's this good for a bank holiday then I can thoroughly recommend it as a place to try if you're going for relaxed and peaceful !
