Ideal site for a long weekend away close to home when the days are shorter, or for an in-transit stop-over. Used by people walking the Southern Upland Way. We have tried to get on to the site for several years, but were never successful due to a shortage of hardstands for the motorhome: The ground is too soft for us. However, some 2 dozen extra hardstands were put in over the winter.
Flat site, open to the weather, pretty views out, you quickly get used to the nearby church clock chiming the hour. Our electricity went off briefly - we blamed our fan heater (it was snowing!), but other reviews suggest it's a minor problem at the site.
Friendly wardens, clean loos - I'd guess the entry code is necessary to stop non-campers using them. Dog walk area is small, but our spaniel enjoyed going in the burn running through it. For off-site dog walks, we recommend going up Gallow Hill which overlooks the town. Cracking views in all directions, woods are amazing at mushroom time and probably snowdrop time too. Maps at the Tourist Info, but just keep going uphill.
Moffat was once a Spa town like Crieff and Peebles, but the huge Hydro Hotel burnt down in the 1920s. It has a good choice of pubs, restaurants etc. In walking distance of the site. Wells are still in evidence. Lime Tree Restaurant looked closed. Buccleugh Arms is good, their own bottled water is delicious; dogs allowed in the bar. Moffat Toffee isn't chewy - more like a peppermint, you can try before you buy, and Toffee Shop has a surprisingly good selection of whisky. Excellent butcher, and also a good wine shop regularly cited in newspaper reviews. Small theatre in town, but not open every weekend. Personally, I'd avoid the mill shop beside the Co-op as it's mobbed with bus tour parties - the drivers get a commission on the sales. Play area in the local park has rowing boats etc. Good golf course above town, with splendid views of Annandale.

Used this site as a convenient over night stop on our way back to England from the Highlands. Just minutes from the motorway which makes it a very busy site even in October.
After stopping on quiet peaceful parks for two weeks it was a shock to the system! However for a break in your journey North or South its an ideal stopover but not my personal choice for a weeks stay purely due to the size, capacity and movement and not due to any negative points.
Reception staff very friendly and more than helpful even though there was a queue booking in at tea time.Shown to the pitch by another friendly chap on a bike who stayed until we were in place and settled. All very good and well organised.
Yes, toilets have a code but we didnt need to use the facilities just on an overnight stop.
The bonus of this site is that after a long days drive you can walk into the nice little town of Moffat within a minute or two. We had a nice meal at one of the pubs and enjoyed walking round the shops and the town centre which does get busier later in the evening.
Back at the site there is good TV reception and no noise late on and we slept well. The Jack donkey at the farm is better than an alarm clock and people start moving about quite early in the mornings which is fine if you are moving on but not so good if you want a quiet lie in on your holiday!
I would use the site again for a break in my journey as this really is an excellent site for this purpose.

Site wardens friendly and helpful. No problem with our hook-up failing as others have mentioned so maybe this has been sorted. The water was cut-off from 10pm - 2am due to major engineering works in the town but this was well posted and didnt cause a problem. Toilet block was clean with plenty of hot water, although it is showing its age (arent we all) and was unheated and seemed rather poorly lit. The toilet block has a security code for keypad entry so remember to take glasses and a torch for an after dark visits. Parts of the site track could do with some work as it has quite a few large potholes. As already mentioned there is a garden / fisherery / animal park next door to the site which can be accessed via a path next to the dog walk, they have a good restaurant with a 20% discount given to campers (think this might be breakfast only) you need a voucher from the site wardens. The co-op is only a couple of minutes walk away and open until 10pm. There is also a large mill shop and lots of small town shops all within about 5 minutes walk. Lots of free parking as well. Shame they had a rally coming in we would have liked to stay longer. Will be back.

This was a very pleasant site, we were made very welcome after a long days drive. The staff are a Dutch couple and are bright and cheerful. Toilet and shower facilities were spotless but on the second night we were there workmen locally cut off the water supply in the evening which was absolutely crazy when most people are in their units! Why couldn't they have done it during the day? Hard standing available on the site with electric hook ups - there is a dedicated motor home service area. Moffat town centre is a 2 minute walk away with lots to see and do if you are only there for a short time - never did find out the significance of the Moffat Ram though. Look out for the 'Singing Potter' a lovely man but he will preach the 'love of Jesus' to you and tell you his life story which is one tragedy after another!

Stayed here in late May, on arrival found the owners very friendly was escorted to our pitch by a man on a bike. Huge pitches which was great as our cousins came in their tent and we just windbreaked off what was left over(which was easily enough for the 10 of us). The toilet/shower block was nearby and very clean but with No heating so was flippy freezing when you got out of the shower, The play area is small but more than enough. Moffat is a lovely little place with a butchers, bakers, toffee shop and many more plus theres the mill. Overall would recommend and will be visiting again.

Just returned from here and me and my partner had a brilliant weekend, which was certainly helped by the good weather. But you've got the best of both worlds, animal park on one side and town of Moffat on the other. And as usual at CCC site everyone was very friendly. But only downside is the times that the showers, etc are cleaned, between 10.30am - 12.00pm, which I would say is the time when most people would go, but apart from that just had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back.

Very busy site, toilets clean but had to wait in quite long queue (7 people in front of me) and only 4 showers to serve the females of the site. Not very exciting play area, however to the rear right of the site is direct safe access to hammerlands garden centre / fishing / animal park with a good play area with a trampoline and mini golf.

We had lovely weekend in Moffat. The site is well kept, and not too regimented. Facilities are basic, but clean. No shop, but not a problem as town only minutes away. Plenty to amuse everyone in Moffat. Scenery of surrounding areas spectacular. Ample choice of eateries. Downsides are - why do they have to clean the toilet blocks at peak time, 10.30am - 12.00? Surely it would be more sensible when most people are off site or before people are up. We also had power cuts two out of three nights so remember the candles!

We stayed here for four nights over Easter weekend. It was very busy due to it being the Bank Holiday weekend with a good mix of tents caravans and motorhomes but the toilets and showers were always kept to a high standard which I thought was very good considering the number of people using them. We enjoyed being able to walk straight off the site into Moffat and having a supermarket so close to the site. Unfortunately the site seemed to have a problem with the electric on our first two nights there but this disappeared after people left on the Sunday and the site was not as busy. I could recommend the Lime Tree Restaurant situated on the main street if you like to eat out and enjoy a menu with something a bit different to normal pub grub although it is a bit more expensive it was delicious. Although the campsite is in the town on one side you have beautiful countryside on the other which is good for walking. We enjoyed visits to the Dawyck Botanic Garden, the mares tail waterfall and St Marys Loch during our stay here. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to other UKCS members.

Not been to this site for approx. 11 years but really enjoyed my 2 nights this time. The mill complex & Town Shopping are Excellent, site handy for pubs (yes, I do enjoy a couple of pints on the evening I arrive) helps me unwind. Luckily I've not got to the slippers & cocoa stage yet. Anyway I found the wardens very helpful & courteous. The showers had plenty of room, although are 4 sufficient for this large site?. Generally a good site to stop at when going to Scotland, or coming back from in my case.
