Just returned from the recent long Jubilee weekend and apart from the weather we had a wonderful stay.
The lovely lady who runs this site took the trouble to show us to our spot and she had managed to keep our 4 units together despite it being very busy weekend.
As been said before the toilet block etc could do with some updating but they are all spotlessly clean and well maintained. Showers work on a token that you purchase from the reception, which gives you 10 mins of piping hot water.
The location for this site could not be better, right on the River Arun and halfway between the beaches at Littlehampton and the medievil town of Arundel. The bonus being the Ship & Anchor pub located on the site, a very friendly pub with decent food at affordable prices.
The site has plenty of room and never seemed overcrowded despite the bank holiday weekend. Some people may be put off by the nearby railway but you soon get used to the movement of the trains. If you want a quiet site with a perfect location look no further, highly recommended.

Just got back from a very ad-hoc one nighter at this cracking little site near Arundel, Sussex.
Decided Friday, with the weather great for the first time in weeks, we were going to go away in our still new motorhome so did a bit of searching and found this site.
It is a small but great little site, quite a few hard standings (great because of the last few weeks of rain) but still wear your wellies as the hard standings are plastic grill type things sunk into the ground. Grass still grows through and around is still wet from the rain.
Showers could do with a face lift but they are lovely and hot, clean and plenty of room and at 50p for ten mins ish, worth every penny.
Now for the best bit. The site is right next to a cracking little pub called the Ship and Anchor. Local ales, good food (from what we saw as we ate at the motorhome in the sunshine) and what appears to be very fair prices for all.
It literally is yards from the site entrance but very quiet. As it had been a long week for both of us we crashed out at 930pm and the site was silent. Apart from the inevitable loo visit in the wee small hours as I had consumed a couple of pints, nothing could have awoken me and we slept great.
On Sundays there is a market in the old airfield about ten minute cycle ride from the site (left as you leave the site entrance, then right where the plane is). Typical but very, shall we say, chavvy but if you need a few bits and bobs, drop in.
A short and picturesque cycle ride along the river Arun gets you into Arundel or a short drive. If you have a motorhome, there appears to be parking down by the river and near the bottom entrance of the castle but we opted to head slightly out of town near the cathedral and parked at the side of a road plenty wide enough about 5 mins from the cathedral.
The sun was shining so we opted for a lunch in a courtyard at a bar/restaurant down Tarrent Street.
Very nice food and a beer in the sun, lovely.
Anyway, heartily recommend this little site and the area, we will be back, lots.

I have to agree with Maggie this site is wonderful - I think you left just after we arrived with our old car hooked on the back. Hope it wasn't something we said!
Helen is a great host who was willing to explain things - yes there are rules as others have said i. E. No music at all and the gate locked overnight, but these were ideal for us and they would certainly not stop us from going back.
The facilities are excellent with plenty of wash basins, wc's and three showers in each side plus a bath in the ladies. Showers are 50p token and they go on for ages.
Sadly we didn't get to try the pub's offerings due to our pre-arranged offsite visits.
There's a nice walk along the river bank and great views of Arundel on the other side of the railway bridge. Kingfisher, Little Grebes, Redshank and Little Egrets all present.
Ford Station is in easy walking distance offering a choice of places to visit.
All in all an excellent and well presented site - we'll be back!

I feel I really must write this review to compliment the lovely lady that runs this site. My elderly aunt and uncle arrived late as they got lost on the journey, we set up their bongo and awning and tried to make them as comfortable as possible even though by this time it was getting dark.
The lady that runs the site was extremely kind and concerned for them, made sure they knew about the disabled facilities, code for the toilets etc.
When the weather turned colder and they found it impossible to continue, their money was refunded without question (we were even offered a refund for the night they stayed with us but the awning etc remained)
The site has a homely, friendly feel to it, is in beautiful surroundings, and obviously peace and tranquillity is the preference.
Visitors are discouraged but this is understandable as you will always get people who take advantage, and although the code to the toilets was a pain it is probably necessary to prevent non-camping visitors to the marina or pub using them.
It is right on the river Arun with a slipway. Ford railway station a short walk away. Ford airfield is also nearby which is now used for a bootsale on Saturday and a general market on a Sunday.
Food is served at the pub, but we were told it is shut on Monday.
Overall a lovely site

I have just returned from 2 days at this site and it is very nice indeed. I may well return again. It is basically a flat field but the pitches are not marked or regimented so there is freedom to pitch wherever you wish providing you keep the distance regulations. There was a smaller area at one end which had a sign suggesting it was a quiet area reserved for adults. There were no units on it at the time I was there mid-week. The grass is plush and well maintained and after a night and a morning of torrential rain there was hardly a puddle to be seen anywhere - no mud baths here!
The facilities were not plush but they were better than many sites I have been on and were kept very clean with more than enough showers, sinks and loos. Plenty of hooks for clothing/towels/washbags and shaving sockets mirrors etc. Toilet paper, hand soap and paper towels were also provided. The showers were 50p by token which is reasonable considering I was only charged £11. 50 a night inclusive of EHU. I don't know if that is a 'per person' charge or not but as a solo camper that for me is spot on!
The site is also next to a very nice pub/restaurant which in my view was a little expensive but in line with the area generally.
Despite the pub being on site, during my stay there was no noise or rowdyness even though there seemed to be one or two groups/families, and the campsite is generally quite peaceful and relaxing. There is a little noise from the adjacent road and railway line but this soon disappears into the background and no doubt depends which way the wind is blowing.
Contrary to some other reviews I found the staff exceptionally friendly and no hint of 'the rules'. Perhaps as an elderly solo camper they didn't feel the need to warn me about any riotous behaviour!
I walked along the 'uneven' river embankment and it took an hour at a fairly brisk pace to reach Arundel. Likewise in the opposite direction to Littlehampton. After all that walking I decided to catch the train back from Littlehampton to Ford railway station and was surprised that the single fare was only £2. 30. I was also surprised to discover that Ford railway station is only about a 3 minute walk along a roadside pavement back to the campsite. Had I realised that at the start of my stay I could have saved a lot of leg power although I am sure the walking did me some good!
Although I was a little disappointed with Arundel and Littlehampton - seemed a little neglected I thought - the campsite itself was first class and I may well use it as a little retreat being only just over an hours drive from my home.

My family and I (2 adults, 2 children aged 5 and 2) stayed here for 3 nights in mid-August. Well maintained site, not too big, not too small. Minimum of 6 metres between pitches is a good idea. Big space in the middle for children to play in. The little playpark bit is great with fun little climbing obstacles and a slide. We were a bit anxious about meeting the owner but she turned out to be extremely nice and quite relaxed. We were not briefed on ANY rules and were left in peace the whole time. Showers/toilets fine for a campsite, you have to lower your expectations a bit when camping don't you. Road not really noisy, trains make quite a pleasant, inobtrusive noise and not very loud. Didn't use the pub. Not sure how that happened. You can walk to Ford railway station in 10 mins and catch the train to Littlehampton for a seaside day out. Also try Arundel Lido, it's basic, pool a bit chilly but really fun. I recommend this camp site and will definitely be back.

Great site well run we are going back tomorrow and have booked a family holiday. Go with the rules as they work for every one, showers old looking but clean and lots of hot water. Pub was great and the area has some beautiful walks all that you need from a camping holiday. We had a great time on the site the pub is a great bonus, not your Haven holiday but then nor should it be just a good honest campsite with a real pub and good facilities. Go see for yourself.

Just had a fab weekend at the ship &n anchor. Helpful staff in reception shop, friendly staff in pub.
Site is in a lovely location excellent views to Arundel on the way and site itself is lovely with very clean facilities.
Visited the amberley museum which was great and dogs welcome. Lots more to see and do around. The site is right by the river where you can take the dog for a walk.
Bird watchers will find quite a lot of birds in the reeds/tall grass around the edge of the site. Plenty of room around each pitch.

A nice site with a pub next door. Just south of the railway crossing, but easily missed as the sign is hidden in a tree.
A very good site, although there are various rules that reminded us of a German site we once visited. Limited shop opening times - although you can ring a bell for service. Toilet access via a keypad code - excellent. Showers 50p for 10 minutes. Dishwashing facilities plus chemical toilet waste disposal).
Note: Cash only. No cheques.
There is access to the river Arun path. Ignore the 'private' sign next to the pub. Also you can walk to the station via the river path. Regular services to Brighton, Portsmouth and Southampton.
The pub was closed when we were there, so we can't comment on it.

My family and I have been coming here since I was a child back in the early 70s, and we return again and again.
It is a basic site with shower, toilets and small playground. There is also the pub right on the doorstep, as well as the River Arun.
It is based in two fields, with the upper field designated a child free zone during the majority of the year. Electric hook ups are available in the lower field.
Pitches for tents are on level grass.
The River Arun runs alongside the site, which is gated so to avoid wandering children, and walks along the river both to Arundel and Littlehampton can be made in reasonable short time.
The pub serves reasonably good pub grub, and portions are excellent. Please remember it is a pub and not a kindergarten, so children's activities are limited to a small room with arcade games and board games which are readily available. Beer is the standard fare, but those that like real ales may be pleased with the selection.
The showers and toilets are average, and a bit dated, but always clean in my opinion (subject to fellow campers!)
As for the oft mentioned rules, I welcome them. There have only been a couple of occasions where I have seen anyone being 'reminded' of the rules, and in both cases the reminder was well deserved. Now I am a parent myself, quiet after 9pm is a godsend.
Anyway, here's my list of recommendations to get the best out of the site.
Lower field - try to pitch along the back or to the right (as you drive past the reception shop), to avoid the noise from the road, it can be a cut through during rush hour midweek. Pitches by the playground can be noisy.
Upper field - avoid the very far end of the field as this is by the railway (although the trains are infrequent).
Rules - you may feel these are a bit much, but if you're a courteous camper then it's just what you would do anyway, and if you're unlucky enough to have a bad camper alongside, you'll be glad of the rules!
