We just got back from spending 2 nights at this campsite. This was our very first camping trip and unfortunately the weather was awful but this has not put us off camping again, this is probably due to the fact that Barmouth is a lovely place and even though we had continuous downpours we still enjoyed shopping in the lovely little shops, and having a coffee and cake in one of the local cafes. The people that we met on and off the campsite were lovely.
Our 5 yr old was promised some time on the beach during our trip but with the weather being so bad we couldn't go. The prom is so close to the campsite though that we hope on our next visit to Barmouth we will take a walk along the prom to the shops, apparently this is just a 20 minute walk and it's such a pretty place I imagine the walk to be a very pleasant one.
During our stay we went to Portmadog where we enjoyed some shopping. It took us about 40 mins to get there, there was some slow traffic at times so you may get there quicker when less busy. The toll road was a very skinny road but there was a set of temporary traffic lights that were in operation so that the cars from opposite directions didn't meet in the middle. The toll was just 40p. Coming home however the guy who operates the traffic lights and takes the toll money wasn't there, this was at around 5.40pm on Saturday and the traffic lights were no longer in operation, luckily for us the people using the toll road at this time were courteous and we got across safely and easily, which was a relief to me as there is no way that 2 cars going in opposite directions would fit on the road at the same time and as it's a longish road you would have a problem reversing all the way back, could be tricky for a few cars in a line.
The Campsite: I have none to compare it to but I would say it was a good one, it gets really good reviews here from experienced campers which is why we chose it for our first trip. One thing I could have complained about is the Hot and Cold water, there is plenty of very hot water but the cold water is a slow trickle and caused problems even just when washing my little ones hands after using the toilet.
Yes we could have filled the sink with hot and cold to make 'warm' but for quickness and to avoid burns we just used the cold tap. I've heard this mentioned in previous reviews so it must be an ongoing problem. There is one hand dryer that was not the best so we just let our hands dry out in the air (rain).
There are 2 toilet blocks and they were clean. There is a shop on site and it seemed good but we didn't use it really, just nipped in to buy a couple of 'Wales' souvenirs on last day.
The Cafe/Take Away didn't really appeal to us, we saw some campers come away with food on their plate and it didn't look very appetising but our neighbours said it tasted good though (I'm quite fussy though).
The play area for the kids was ok with swings, slide, roundabout, the usual that you would find in a small park.
Pets must be allowed on this campsite as we saw quite a few dogs during our stay, when I realised this I thought there might be a problem with barking dogs etc. But we didn't encounter any problems thankfully.
There is no clubhouse on this site which we could have done with during our stay as it was a little boring when stuck in the tent because of the rain.
During our journey home we stopped at Bala which I really enjoyed, they have some pretty little shops there, old fashioned sweet shop and a couple of homeware shops, one in particular was selling some high quality items from Cath Kidston, L'Occitane and Emma Bridgewater amongst other beautiful ranges. Bala Lake is so pretty.
Goodness, this review has turned out to be an EPIC! sorry about that (blush).
Overall. Barmouth is lovely, we're eager to go back there in 'nice' weather so we can enjoy the prom and the beach. The surrounding areas are lovely too, ie. Bala.
We would recommend the campsite to friends but personally we might try another one next time with more facilities ie clubhouse.

Been to this campsite a few times. In fact. Re-booked this year again! Barmouth is a Welsh jewel. If you have not visited then please make this the year to try it out!
The campsite is located next to the beach. You can see and hear the ocean. Any closer and you would need a boat.
Myself and my wife love camping here! Great people, fantastic facility's and the view is amazing!
Highly recommended! We have always camped on the top field. This year we have splashed out on a new tent ( Outwell Vermont XL ) so we can have a bit more room and some electricity. Pre-booked for the end of May.
We wanted to try it out somewhere special. Picked the right place!

Stayed here for a weekend, lovely site with a large flat pitch. Right on the sea front after crossing a train track. Facilities were clean.
Cafe very near to site for breakfasts and dinner and a small cafe on site to eat in or take away. Only criticism was we couldn't get any reception for the tv and neither could the caravan next to us. Overall a nice site to stay with a lovely walk on the sea front into Barmouth.

We visited Hendre Mynach and would have no hesitation in recommending this site to anyone. It caters for all types of camping and campers.
The facilities were always clean and well maintained with notices stating when cleaning would take place and where alternative facilities were available. There is a shop on site and a cafe which serves sit-down or take-away meals and snacks.
There are re-cycling bins and the waste bins were always emptied before over-flowing.
The road running through the site is well lit at night.
The staff were 100% helpful and friendly.
The site is about a mile and a bit from Barmouth city centre and is a pleasant stroll along the promenade.(Land train available also at certain times).
The site is near the borders of Snowdonia National Park but if you can't manage the hills there are some lovely walks on the flat nearby. Just ask at reception and they'll give you more info. And maps.
If you are a vegetarian ignore this paragraph but if you like a bit of locally raised and sourced food go to Jones the Butcher next door but two to the pub in the square. Wonderful lamb.
The only fault I found on this visit: a small stream runs through the site and it must have been at a time of year when the the gnats were 'at it' cos they had a fantastic meal on me so although it may seem strange, ensure you have your anti-mozzy stuff and if you forget to apply it - your 'afterbite'. We've visited this site many times before and this is the first time this happened. Ah, well, there's always a first!

We camp in a converted 4x4 with an awning so for our stay at Hendre Mynach we were pitched in with the camper vans. This was a little more expensive than we had initially been quoted over the phone but as the weather was fabulous and we only planned to stay a couple of nights, so we didn't feel the need to complain over a few quid. However next time I'd make sure I'd taken someone's name who authorised the booking.
The site itself is very well looked after, the toilets and showers (of which there are plenty) are spotlessly clean and there is a small shop on site for anything you may have forgotten to pack. Whether that is a bottle of wine or your boogie board. That boogie board might come in pretty useful because the site is practically on the beach. Literally a five minute walk over the train line. Don't worry about the trains though, they are very few and far between and you hardly remember they are there until you get a honk from the driver!
The site has its own little park for children although the weather was so fantastic when we went absolutely everyone was at the beach.
The staff were all very friendly without being interfering and mostly leave you to your own devices after they have shown you to your pitch.
The site isn't cheap and the facilities aren't outstanding or anything but its quiet and its on the sea front. What more could you ask for in the summer?

Have just returned from a 2 night stay at Hendre Mynach and we have totally enjoyed our few days there.
The site has good and ample toilet / shower facilities which are kept really clean. The site is regularly patrolled by the owners and kept clean.
From the site you can walk along the promenade into Barmouth centre in 20 minutes. Access to the prom is across a train line that has trains run through about every hour so they are not a problem as they do not run through the night.
The site has a good shop and an excellent take away service on site too.
Pitches were quite large and all had their own water taps and hook ups that we could see. There was quite a few people on the site whilst we was there and a few of the camping pitches looked a little cramped but I can say every one was getting along great on site so there was no problems.
Would we return to this site.Yes but for longer next time.

We had 2 nights at this site.
Very clean good facilities,a short walk to the beach,
It is next to the railway so do hear trains now and again this did not worry us.
The owners do try to get as many in so pitches are a bit small we did not have a lot of room to spread out and did feel a bit cramped.
We did think it was a very quiet site.
It has a small play area for children.
Also has a shop.
The ladies toilets were separate from the showers and when I tried to use the sinks there was very little hot water it just dribbled out.
We paid £17 per night with electric mid week price which we thought was fair.
Barmouth is a lovely place the beach is great for kids.
Plenty of places to eat and drink.

We had a friendly and informative welcome. There are several level tent fields and we were advised where to pitch in order to give us the easiest access to the beach from the camp with our kayak. This does involve crossing a railway line which takes you directly on to the promenade in less than 5 minutes and from here it takes a very pleasant 20 minutes to walk into Barmouth where there are numerous shops, restaurants, bars and a small fair ground.
Amenities - a shop which sells everything you need for a stay with very competitive prices, off-licence included. A snack bar- we can heartily vouch for the full breakfasts. They also do other hot meals, sandwiches and drinks. There is also a play area for under 12's.
This site provides EHU. There are recycle and refuse bins,
Ablutions - There are two separate blocks of showers and toilets which were spotlessly clean with plenty of hot water available. A nice touch is the inclusion of vanity cubicles. There is a separate baby bathroom, modern laundrette and pot wash facilities.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the staff are very friendly and helpful and we can highly recommend a visit to this wonderful site.

Nice site friendly staff and about 20 minutes walk out of Barmouth
Along promenade you can cycle down this promenade which has some lovely views out to sea. Barmouth has a few nice shops and pubs and a little fair.
The site has spotless toilets which have their own separate sinks as well as toilet and showers. Sites play area is nice and safe. They also have a shop and a takeaway cafe which is very useful and not to expensive.
We paid about 30 pounds a night (but this was a bank holiday and they did let us book just two nights a lot of sites state 3 night minimum) which is a bit expensive but we did have mains hookup our own water tap and a tv aerial because you cannot seem to get freeview of you own aerial.
Run up to site is a little tight if you have got a big caravan but well worth the effort
I will return and spend longer next time two nights was not long enough.

Nice campsite about a 15 minute walk out of Barmouth town centre, right on the sea front (once you've crossed the railway line!)
Hot showers, washing up area with hot water, toilets with private sink cubicles so you can have a quick wash if you don't want a shower.
Night time security wandering round (who quizzed us as we turned up at 10pm to meet friends who had already pitched for us!)
No fires allowed and if you bring disposable BBQ's you will also need to bring something to lift them off the grass so they don't burn it.
A good first time camping experience although cold and windy! With hindsight we should have pitched by the railway line facing into the hills as railway blocked the wind somewhat.
