Absolutely loved our stay at the cud life, the facilities were very clean and the camping area very well maintained. Big plus for us was the lovely view.

We had such a warm welcome once we arrived and couldn't of asked for any more. This is a must visit site if you haven't already

We will definitely be back very soon. Also very easy to find the site. Perfect location
via mobile

Awww, what a lovely site this is. We had made a booking for a nearby site, but silly me booked the wrong weekend, and when we got there - you've guessed it, they were full!

Anyway, we found the Cud Life on the web and what a delight. A real working farm, lovely cows grazing in the fields, but most of all, a friendly place. We joined others around the barbecue on the Saturday, such a nice idea and a great way to get chatting.

The cook shop was heaven for me, much to the annoyance of my husband and his wallet, although the excellent bannoffee pie and coffee in the shop won him over.

We will make this our regular site now for visiting Harrogate. We've booked again as we have a show to see in Leeds and can get the bus back, direct to the site. The owners are lovely people who go out of the way to help. We also liked the sense of humour on the signs in the loo!

4 of the best campsites I've stayed at have been farms. Whether it's their understanding of the land that affords us campers beautiful views & idyllic settings or the caring and honest people that run and maintain them so well, farms are the best in my opinion and The Cud Life is a perfect example.

From the tent we could see the rolling countryside with the farms Belgian blues & Holstein fresians, the Nidd Gorge viaduct well worth a walk (other illustrated walks on site) and the top of the Howardian hills in the distance. The facilities match in well with surroundings and provide for everything and plenty of local info too.

The locally made bacon and sausages at the coffee shop and the honesty box in the fridge/freezer are very tasty with milk and eggs provided as well. Big Up Tanya and Dave on a beautiful and lovely haven really is the good life.

We (Caroline & Alies) aka the dutch cylcists, stayed 3 nights at the Cud life. We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty and overall tranquillity of the place being close to a big city. Our small tents were placed in the orchard among the apple trees which probably end up in the delicious apple pie we tasted on site.

The campsite is conveniently located with a bus stop at the end of the farm lane.

Bus stops every 20 min during day time and goes to either direction (Ripon, Harrogate, Leeds). In less than 15 min you are in downtown Harrogate.

For us being on bike it was the perfect stop. All the necessary facilities were there, warm clean showers and toilet block, electricity for our phones and e-bike. Even a fridge from which you could buy stuff like eggs and ham or put your own stuff in.

As far as cats and insects concerned. It is a working farm with cattle and an orchard. Given that it was also an exceptionally good summer there are more insects but we only saw a couple of flies and wasps. Not more than my back garden in the Netherlands. Cats, yes mine steal food too when they get the chance.

Oh and do not forget the tea room on site. Mjummie cakes and an extensive cookshop with lots of nice quality kitchen items to cook and bake.

So far, one of the best small campsites I experienced in my camping life.

Please don't take notice of the negative comment on here as this site is just amazing (see all the great reviews).

The site is situated on a lovely working farm with views of the countryside but yet a short drive / bus ride to the beautiful town of Harrogate.

Yes Harrogate is a little busy but this is because it is so popular!, there is also other towns nearby to visit.

Yes there is rules but as it is a caravan and camping club certified site the rules are not as strict as the club sites.

Parking is in the car park as we all don't want to contribute to grounding up the beautiful well kept field and find we are stuck in the mud do we folk.

I do advise as a camper that food is not left out in any countryside retreats as this does attract badgers/ foxes and any other wildlife.

The fly comment - it's a little excessive ( I was there same time and a few little wasps ) it's summer and you are camping outside- was no bother you can get a wasps anywhere even in your house!

The best showers ever! always clean hair dryer and straightness and a radio so you can have a sing song.

This site is a must visit along with the on site tea shop - try their Award Winning Apple Pie ( came first at the country show)

Would I visit here again Sorry definitely not.

Fly, wasp infested. Ok rules on dogs and car parking fair do`s. Having to make sure the awning was pretty well pinned down no gaps, due to nightly cat visitors, lost a bit of meat from the BBQ, thought ok to be left in awning wrapped in tin foil, until got up next morning.

Open fire in centre of field for sat nights. If wanting to BBQ having to use the central pit area.

Cars not allowed near pitches, park in the car park.

Other than that pretty quiet site, toilets and showers clean and tidy. If going to Harrogate may be best getting the 36 outside the gate, ended up paying £4 for 2 hrs, traffic can be a nightmare, as some roads were closed and diverted. Aldi just a few mins drive.
Management response: Thankyou for your review, we wished you had given us the chance to put things right during your stay, we see that a couple of our guests have had their say. We pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable, we walk the campsite and clean the toilet block twice a day, Dave is always on the farm and I am mostly in our cookshop (even on the days we are closed) to offer advice if needed and we give every camper with our mobile numbers. This is the first time we have heard that our site is infested with anything.

We are not able to do much about flies/wasps in the countryside but we understand it has been a particularly bad year for them all over the country. Following reading your review, we have spoken to guests and asked them to tell us if they suspect a nest anywhere in the vicinity of the campsite and have reminded everyone not to leave unopened food or drinks on their pitch which could attract them.

Regarding the nightly cat visits, unfortunately a camper thought it was a good idea to feed our farm cats (we of course asked her to stop doing this as soon as we were aware) and a couple of them have been seen on the site. We have put a reminder on the notice board for guests to use the fridge/ freezer that we provide or store food in sealed containers, without the temptation we hope they will return to where we need them.

We are unable to do anything about parking charges but we could have directed you to cheaper or free parking in Harrogate if you had asked us - brace yourself if you ever visit York! As far as we know the A61 directly into Harrogate has not been closed or diverted but it can of course take longer during busy periods.

We do allow bbq’s on pitches as long as they don’t burn the grass or are used as firepits. Disposable or low bbq’s can be used on the central stoned area for safety reasons (we have had a very dry summer) and to preserve the grass so that it is not full of burn marks. We are trialling having cars off the site, once guests have set up and no longer need them, to maintain the peace and quiet of the site, preserve the grass entrance and to make it safer for everyone. The car park, immediately next to the campsite, has proved very popular and we have had nothing but really positive feedback so far, with your comments being our first negative so we will of course take this into account when we review at the end of the season.

It makes no difference to us if the grass is burnt, if firepits are used, if people drive their cars on and off the site all day, if people are noisy all night, if they leave food to attract cats and vermin. The only reason we do this is for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. We appreciate you won’t be staying here again but would suggest that you speak to campsite owners/wardens if you feel anywhere is infested with anything during your stay or to help you make the most out of your stay – that is what we are here for as our only goal is for people to enjoy their stay.

We stayed with our trailer tent for 3 nights midweek immediately before August Bank Holiday weekend with EHU (electric hook up). An excellent find and just the kind of campsite we love: small and friendly.

The kitchen/toilet block facilities ere excellent and very clean. A shared fridge/freezer was available to everyone and the showers very efficient and powerful. The arrangement of 2 showers and 2 toilets with washbasins all under one roof ensured minimum (if any) waiting times for use. Kitchen washup hot water was plentiful. The on site cafe and cook-shop (Thursday-Sunday) was well supported by both locals and campers.

Tanya and Dave really take care to ensure all campers are looked after. We plan on returning. Thanks. Stuart & Sarah

Spent a lovely few days here at The Cud Life. Beautiful site with gorgeous views, and the owners are really lovely. I was walked to the camping field and had a choice of pitches. It was so peaceful here, and is a great location for exploring the local area

The facilities are unisex but it works really well because of the way it's set up. The showers were good and nice and hot and everything was spotlessly clean. The cafe is a great addition but be warned, your waistline might expand if you stay here as the cakes are irresistible. I wish I could have stayed longer this time but will definitely be back again (and promise not to forget to pay for the tea and cake next time).

Beautiful site. Stayed for a weekend, two nights, and loved it. Came with friends, dogs and child (3) and everyone loved it.

Peaceful site, no overcrowding or filling, unisex bathroom / toilets were clean, tidy and perfect for requirements. Honesty box for bacon, eggs and marshmallows was a lovely touch. Use black bags for rubbish as the site have contractors (upset that some people didn't bother to obey this request for Tanya). Cookshop could have had a million spent in it! Cakes looked beautiful and will def be tasting next time!

Just like all the other reviews this campsite deserves 10 out of 10!

We spent two night here and really enjoyed it. The bus(#36)runs about every 20 mins from the end of the drive and cost £4. 30 return into Harrogate, Ask the driver for Killinghall bus stop on the return. You can tell Tanya really enjoys what she is doing! I am a registered blind camper and I felt safe on this campsite.
