Upon arrival the staff were friendly and helpful, showing us to our pitch and helping us position our caravan.
We were on the grass which suited us as we could pitch our awning. A lot of the pitches are on a slope, not a problem in a caravan but could be a potential problem for a motorhome or tent so you may want to enquire about this when you book.
We were given a list of the 'site rules' but they certainly didn't make a big deal out of it and upon reading the rules, they seemed perfectly reasonable to me.
The site facilities were excellent, lovely clean toilets and showers, fantastic playground. In fact, the whole site was very well maintained.
All the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly and made an effort to chat to our kids too. We did see some children get reminded that they were not allowed to play football around the caravans and that they needed to go and play on the football pitch but this was done in an appropriate manner and to be honest, I think it is a good rule to have because it means that people can relax around their caravans without worrying about having a football flying at them!
Our children are too young to play unsupervised so we obviously didn't have a problem but I certainly didn't feel like we were being watched all the time. The best advice I can give is that you know your own children. If you can trust them to behave then you won't have a problem but if they do break the rules they may be reminded of them.
The 'no noise after 11pm' policy was observed by everyone as far as we were aware and it suited us perfectly.
The site is very near Alton Towers, about 5 minutes in the car, and only a short walk down into the village where there is a nice little pub. The only thing I will say is that if you like walking and you have children, this may not be the ideal location for you as there didn't seem to be any walks in the area that weren't along the roadside. We wanted to go for a walk and were hoping to find a bridleway or woodland walk but the member of staff I spoke didn't seem to think there were any. Although the surrounding roads are only country lanes they did seem very busy and the cars were going at quite a speed. Just walking down into the village with 2 young children and a dog was a bit hairy as there isn't a clear footpath all the way down. There was no way we could have gone on a decent walk on those roads - I think I would have had a heart attack!
As for provisions, the camp site sold milk and bread and a few other items and had a vending machine with snacks. There are 2 supermarkets in Cheadle which is about a 10 minute drive away.
When it came time to leave, we noticed some members of staff going around offering help to other people who were also packing up. They weren't doing it in a pushy way though, just being friendly and assisting when they were needed. Let's face it, if you're trying to line a car up with a caravan and failing, you're always glad of an extra pair of experienced hands! The checkout time was 11am but it was 11.30am by the time we left and nobody said anything to us, it didn't seem to be a problem.
All in all, this is a lovely site and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.

Just returned from a great couple of nights staying
At the Star Caravan Camp site. Staff very helpful. Excellent toilet and shower cubicles. Brilliant play park for our children and although no ball games allowed we were told that there was a designated area for this. Having a motorhome we stayed on the hard stand which comes with electric and water facilities. Unable to erect awnings or cub tents but not a problem as we have neither. Everything was well signed with the site neat and well kept. Just a short walk to the bus stop with a regular service to Alton Towers which is 5 minutes away and takes you right to the entrance gates. Bus service has lots of other destinations available so would have no hesitation in returning to this campsite and leaving our motorhome on site. Brilliant based site for Alton Towers and the Water Park.

This is a great site with loads of room to pitch your tent, which is great if you have a big tent like us! The site was very quite which we liked and the staff were very helpful.
The facilities were excellent and the toilets and showers are very clean with plenty of hot water. There's an excellent children's play area which we used loads.
The local pubs in Alton and Denstone were really good. The shop on site was not great but we found a brilliant farm shop and cafe in Denstone which is around 5-10 minutes away towards Uttoxeter. We went most days to get their home made sausages and bacon to the envy of the rest of the site.
The site is perfect if you want to visit Alton Towers. It's only 5 minutes away from the gates. Don't forget Denstone Hall Farm Shop on the way home. All in all we had a great holiday.

On arrival to the site, the staff were helpful and friendly. They took us to our pitch and gave us information leaflets regarding the rules / reg's (which we did find a bit full on)
The weather was wet and miserable and we were disappointed to find our pitch was on grass, which was incredibly muddy! and slippery! We had booked well in advance (about a month or 2) so we kinda expected a decent hardstanding pitch (maybe we should have requested this specifically).
The site was clean and well maintained, with a great play area for the kids (although weather didn't permit) and it is right near alton towers which was very handy. The ladies showers were nice and hot, very clean toilets etc. However my partner said the male showers were freezing and he had to keep pressing a button (outside his cubicle) to keep the water running! - not very practical.
The people were friendly and helped us on and off the site. They were always out and about if we had any questions.
Overall we wouldn't visit again, unless we were going to visit alton towers, as the grassed pitch was very muddy and the caravan was messed up in no time (especially with the 2 children coming in and out)
The park lacked character - we usually go for picturesque sites which are more private and spacious. However, it served its need for our trip to A.Towers.

Have stayed here several times in our own touring caravan and never had any problems.
We wanted to go to Alton Towers for the Scarefest they have at Halloween, so because it was October, decided to hire one of the statics, that accommodated six people, rather than bring our own caravan. There were four adults and two children in our group, but would have been better to have booked one for eight people, as there was not much room to spare.
It was very clean and well equipped, but found it hard to heat the smaller of the two bedrooms, as the heater was in the ceiling and made very little difference. The heater wasn't working when we arrived.
Have noted all the previous reviews regarding differing views on the rules and I fully agree that there needs to be strict rules in order to ensure that this particular site is peaceful. However after having fallen 'foul' of one of the many rules, I also agree with those who feel that they are perhaps too rigid.
By writing this review, I hope it will highlight the need to read (several times) all the information that is on the website, or sent to you by post.
When we originally made the booking, we were not sure if one of the adults could join us, due to work, so didn't add them to the original booking form. Big mistake!
A week before we were due to arrive at the Star, we found that the person was able to join us,so I telephoned the site to enquire if she could be added to the booking. The man who answered the phone, told me in no uncertain terms that this couldn't be done and set the phone down before I could reply. Needless to say I was gobsmacked by this, but phoned back and tried to explain that having stayed on the site previously, I had read the terms and conditions thoroughly. Therefore was quite aware of the rules regarding the fact that only people whose names were on the booking form, were permitted to stay in the static.
This was why I was phoning to enquire if anything could be done, in order to sort it out prior to us arriving, as I preferred to be honest, rather than try to sneak her in. Again I received the same reply and had the phone set down again, before I could reply.
I left it a while and then tried again, this time I spoke to a very helpful lady, when I explained what had happened, she was very apologetic and explained that it was probably someone who had just started working there. She advised me to download a new booking form, amend it and send it by next day delivery, so it would be there before we arrived.
Situation sorted, in about two minutes!
We were naturally apprehensive before we arrived, but the staff we met were very pleasant and helpful and we had a good time in Alton Towers.
The broken heater was fixed very quickly.
One evening the electricity went off when were eating our evening meal, have to admit it was funny eating by the light of our mobile phones. I don't know if this is a problem on the site, but twice in the past we had come back to our touring caravan and the electric was off.
The roads leading to The Star are quite narrow in places, best avoided at the time when the coaches are leaving Alton Towers (approx 6pm) we have made that mistake in the past, when towing our own caravan.
Its not too far away from a town, the supermarket stays open late each evening and there are good takeaways. There is not a lot of road noise, late at night.
We did not use the toilet/shower block, so cannot comment on what they were like.
Will be returning to this area, but unlikely that we will stay at the Star.

Great site close to Alton Towers. There are signs everywhere which does unnerve you a little but the staff were very helpful. I was even offered help pitching up. There is a long walk up to the toilet block which has a keypad entry system. Very nice warm showers & free. Only one water point on my field. The reception area is efficient & my son was always at the vending machine. There is a pub just outside but I found the place was overpriced, understaffed & overwhelmed. You won't get a normal TV signal here but all in all probably the most cleanest site I've come across. My dad was a little cheesed off that the gate was shut till 7am as he's a very early bird!

We have quite a large 9 metre Peugeot Twin Axle Motorhome, and we find it difficult to find suitable sites that can take us.
We booked in at The Star Caravan and Camping Park based on a recommendation from a friend who used the park last year in 2007.
On arrival we booked in a the reception lodge near to the entrance, and was shown to our parking bay by a member of staff. When we arrived, it had been raining for quite a considerable length of time, so we were relieved when we were pitched on what appeared to be new hardstanding / tarmac bays. On there we had a drain and a tap to the rear, and a 16 amp electric hook up point. We thought that the price was very fair for the services on offer. To the side of us (20 metres approx) was the motorhome waste and bins areas, which was very convenient, as we are both in our 70s. We were given a tag on arrival and a sticker for the window, along with another piece of paper which has a map of the site on one side, and the 'Dos & Dont's' on the other. On reading through this, we felt reassured that we was going to get a good nights sleep (the site was very busy) as it spelt things out in a good old fashioned 'No Nonsense' way. We were very impressed with the standards of cleanliness on the whole site, and the range of facilities. We went to the pub down the road, on the crossroads, but thought it was very expensive for 'PUB FOOD'.
The Somerfield supermarket is 4 miles away, and the staff give you a £1.00 off if you spend £10.00 voucher which was a bonus !
All in all, we spent a pleasant 5 days at The Star, and would consider returning again in the future, when we take our grandchildren to Alton Towers Theme Park. Happy Camping Folks !

This is a very clean, well run site with lots of room to pitch your tent, excellent if you have, like us, a large tent. The rules are very strict but should be no problem for families. No noisy campers at night causing disturbances. The staff are very helpful and approachable. This is probably the only site where they cut the grass almost daily which is great, but better still collected the cut grass.
The facilities are excellent and the toilets and showers are very clean with constant hot water. There is an excellent childrens' play area and an area for ball games. There is a pub nearby, although we never actually ate there as there are many quaint small pubs selling excellent food very close by. Alton Towers is about 10 - 15 minutes drive away.
My only criticism is booking in. There is no where to park your car which resulted in a long line of vehicles waiting to enter the park. We also found this a problem when arriving back from Alton Towers and had to wait for some time while other people booked in. The entrance is gated and you receive a sticker on your car to allow access and there are no visitors allowed. It did seem a bit on the expensive side but all in all a very nice, clean campsite with local amenities nearby. Again a small criticism is the lack of a shop. There is a small selection of groceries etc at reception but feel for a five star campsite this was a definite disadvantage.

Had a nice bank holiday weekend at Star site. Clean and tidy and the showers where in immaculate condition and free!. The rules that where around the site did not bother us much but I'm sure if we had have had the kids with us I would of been a little bit on edge. The pub down the road had some very friendly locals in who gave us some local places to visit. They also gave us the history of the caravan site and the land that they owned was very interesting.! Not sure if we will return.

Superb campsite with excellent facilities, the stewards are all very friendly and helpful and keep the site in good order. As others have said, it is on a bit of a slope but it's a minor inconvenience.
If you're after a very well run, quiet campsite, but with a great playground for the kids to congregate, this is for you, plus Alton Towers is just down the road ;)
