We had a lovely stay at the star at Alton. The pitches were of a good size and most seemed level. The setting was very nice and quiet, however there were still some great swings and slides for the children. We were happy to let the kids go off on their own as the park seemed very safe. I would highly recommend a stay if you wish to visit the theme park. There is a bus that runs from the site, but be quick to check times as they do not run through the middle of the day. The site staff were very nice, and stayed late to let us in on the Friday evening.

This site is amazing, one of the best we've ever stayed on. We were also lucky enough to have great weather during our stay!
We got a lovely secluded pitch by a tree (there were more being built so there was some construction on site). There was a very good play park and ice-creams are sold at reception. The shower blocks were spotless, and electric hook-up and waste disposal were provided.
This is definitely the best site for visiting Alton Towers, there's a bus stop a short walk away that takes you straight to the theme park, which is fantastic, but so BUSY! There's also a pub just up the road from the site.
Lastly, the staff are really friendly and can't do enough to help!

Just returned from a 3 night break at The Star. We chose it for its close proximity to Alton Towers (we love The Alton Towers Resort!)but the surrounding area is also beautiful.
The wardens were very friendly and helpful, and on arrival worked out the cheapest rate for our family of 2 adults and 4 children, which was a good saving.
The facilities were spotless and we got a key for the family bathroom (£10 deposit) which was excellent.
Never any waiting for showers and plenty of hot water.
The play area is the best we have seen and between that and being in Alton Towers, the kids were hardly in the caravan. The weather was also lovely, warm and sunny.
We all really feel like we have had a holiday.

Stayed at the site for 3 nights so that we could visit the nearby Alton Towers resort for 2 days (needed this time to 'do it all' as it is quite big and queues were long, though the early entry by booking online helped a lot). This site was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. We had a choice of pitches, either in a separate tent field or on the main field, we chose the latter. The site is sloping, though there are a few level pitches. The toilet/showers were absolutely spotless and no problems with waiting or availability of hot water.
The site was very quiet during the day, bit more activity in the evenings when people returned (from Alton Towers presumably) - still a haven of peace after a busy day at the park. Good children's play area to suit all ages, including a ping pong table (which our elder two liked a lot). A pub, the Star is a few minutes down the road and I recommend a visit there. It's very pleasant, really excellent reasonably priced food with very friendly staff (and child friendly) - we had Sunday lunch there, which was great. Overall an excellent stay and certainly would return to this lovely site if visiting Alton Towers (it made a great break), though the Derbyshire Dales are on the doorstep too.

We found the site easily the approach roads are through small towns and the road is quite steep! Pretty well signposted and used the tomtom directions no problem. About 5 mins drive to Alton towers. Site playground probably one of the best anywhere!Toilet blocks extremely clean although the hot water became dangerously hot in the shower in the evening couldn't wash little boy! Very steep slopes but blocks on site to use. Easy satellite reception! Plenty of water points, bit of a walk to grey water/chemical emptying from top and bottom fields. Could get boggy so could be a struggle to move away in non 4wd drive car as ours if it has rained a lot. Ideal if you have merlin passes as we did three days in a row due to close proximity and was able to get in at 9am to miss queues. Will visit again

Stayed here again 5th time and first time since the Caravan Club took over.
Not much has changed except the staff are very helpful and friendly and we were told to pitch our tent anywhere we liked, unlike previous owners who were more concerned about cutting the grass in the right order or what ever they meant.
Toilets and showers very clean and recently upgraded
Alton Towers in a 5 minute drive away, if you book tickets on-line you can get into the park an hour before it opens properly and do the best rides without queuing.
Will stay again

Great Site, ideal for Alton towers, only 5 minutes down the road.
Staff very helpful and considerate, when we entered they discussed where we would like to go on the site. As we had children they put us next to the children's play area. Plenty of space, clean toilets and great play ground, nearly as good as alton towers.
Will go back again, this time with some blocks of wood to go under stabilisers. Due to the slope, one end didn't quite reach the ground, ended up using the spare wheel under a leg.

A very nice quiet site with lots of space between pitches; very helpful staff; great play-park; close to Alton Towers; immaculate bathroom facilities. Ensure you visit the lovely country pub down the way called The Star - excellent menu and prices.
Will happily recommend and visit again.
We approached the site from the North and the nearby roads are very hilly and narrow for the last 10-miles of the journey or so - you will need a powerful car if you're towing a caravan.
We did visit Alton Towers (on the day of the Royal Wedding) and had a great day at the water park there for a reasonable cost.

First time tenting in many years, and not the last. Lovely site, friendly staff. The site has recently been taken over by the Camping and Caravan club and is currently undergoing some building work, none of which impacted on our stay, the end result will be even more pleasing.
We stayed on a pitch with EHU and had plenty of space, although there is a slight slope on the site. Toilets/showers spotless, wash up area also spotless, although the was a distinct lack of hot water, I was assured that that will be rectified shortly.
Play park was fantastic and of course Alton Towers was a very short drive away.
Supermarket (Morrisons) can be found four miles away in Cheadle and fantastic walking country and breathtaking views are on the doorstep. We plan to return in the summer holidays.
Brilliant site. Well done to all concerned!

Went to this site for the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday Weekend, pretty soon after it had been taken over by the Camping and Caravanning Club.
We received a friendly welcome from three members of staff who were clearly in the process of rearranging the furniture in reception to suit the Club style! The guy who showed us to our pitch was really helpful with advice about levelling and access, as the site is on quite a slope.
Toilet block and facilities were not quite yet at the standard you would expect from C&CC club sites (usually top notch!) but they were working on it and would soon be there.
Had a great day at Alton Towers (tip: expect it to take longer than a few minutes to get there - you queue in from well before opening time!)and then a lovely meal at the pub at the bottom of the hill. My husband ended up dropping us there and taking the car back to the site so we could all walk back after a drink or two. There's no proper pavement, but it was perfectly possible. Maybe pedestrian access into the 'bottom' of the site could be considered?
