This is a really good site, clean and well spaced. Ideally placed for Alton Towers and also Matlock which has Gulliver’s Kingdom and Jay zees Café in Matlock Bath which is a bit of a greasy spoon, but the food there is fab.
The toilets on the tent fields are porta cabins but are kept spotless. No shop although we found that reception can sell frozen bread, not sure about other groceries as this is what we needed at the time. As has been mentioned the ground has a slope, so make sure that your tent is set up with bed heads upwards. There are warnings about what you can and can’t do around the site so not to difficult to obey.
The Playground was rated as brilliant by my ten year old and she met many friends there. I like a campsite where the children can mingle on there own and this playground provides that area, and there’s plenty of play areas on the camping field anyway. Even though there are NO BALL GAMES notices.
I can understand that adult only camper’s need they’re peace and quiet, but kids need to be kids and just because there is a good playground it doesn’t mean that they are going to go there.
I have one gripe. We bought an electrical hook up especially for this site and it was not acceptable, so we had a choice of going without a fridge or buying an acceptable hook up from reception at £60 for one socket. If you are coming to this site ensure that you have seen the type of Electrical hook-up that they accept and do not deviate. A picture of the hook-up is on they’re web site.
I can’t really fault this site, in my own personal rating it gets 8 out 10 and that’s ignoring the electrical hook up issue.

What a lovely site had good views from our tent.
Staff at the gate were very friendly and helpful, toilets were veryclean.
Play area was very good our kids loved it.
We walked from the site to Alton Towers a bit
Nerve racking, no footpath 1 and quarter miles away. Brought a instant barbeque with us but could not use it luckly a fellow camper lent us
His proper barbeque.
Will definitely recommend and visit again

Picked this site as its closest to Alton Towers.
Our party was arriving separately in 3 cars. Upon arrival we were not allowed to pay for all members, each had to pay separately upon their arrival. The third car had an unexpected delay and were on the road later than expected (we had already pitched their tent). Upon informing reception, their response was curt and unsympathetic. Bearing in mind, they had no tent to pitch, had two small children in the car, we were told they would NOT be allowed in after 9 pm and had to find alternative accommodation. We wanted to pay and asked very nicely if they would bend their very strict rules on this occasion as it would only be a matter of lifting the barrier to let them through. This was a categoric NO - 'rules are rules and cannot be changed'. Eventually, after much pleading, we were given an extra 10 minutes, after which time it was hard luck!
The party risked life and limb in order to reach the camp site by 9.10 pm in order to be allowed in!
The 'no noise policy after 11.00' is not a bad thing. But sitting silently outside our tent we watched the warden actually put his ear up to tents and tell people inside to whisper! Also, he shone his torch directly inside the two man tent my daughter and friend were sleeping in!
The second night, he patrolled in a van as it was raining.
Pitches are not regular, making it a little difficult to weave in and out with the car when the site was full.
The hedged boundary next to the road was noisy with fast traffic.
Nearest shop for provisions is 4 miles away along a very narrow and winding road. No facilities on site to buy groceries except for asking at Reception, but only milk, tea, coffee and washing up liquid and the like.
Barrier is locked and you are not allowed into the park after 10.50 pm, nor can you leave the park before 7.45 am.
Nice pub close by, but a hazardous walk along very busy road.
Play area ok, not brilliant. Nothing else to do. No scooters, roller skates etc allowed. Ball games in same field as dog walking field!
Showers and toilets on touring field in portacabins. Clean but space very limited. Water was hot and free. Locked blocks on caravan field (you need a code from Reception) much better and have plug sockets.
Site is sloping. Although well maintained.
Electric hook up area segregated with non electric pitches by a thin rope with metal posts. Very hazardous when dark.
Although close to Alton Towers, to walk is not recommended. Road is very narrow, windy and busy. NO footpath. Bus stop nearby (near pub) but walk still hazardous. Best to take car (£5 to park).

This is a big, gently sloping, site with areas for permanent mobile homes, caravans and tents. It is immaculately kept from the grass to the toilet blocks. The caravan area has permanent buildings, every pitch has a hook-up. The camping field toilet block is in Portacabins, there are hookups but there is less permanent feel to this area.
There is large 'football' field, a children's playground and a dog exercise area
The staff are helpful and efficient. We arrived on a busy Friday night and were on our pitch complete with an additional cable (we were 5m too far from the hook-up) in 15 minutes.
The site is well fenced with one gate that closes at 11pm sharp. But the the prison camp comparisons are unfair. The place feels very safe and secure.
The local pub is about 200 yards from the entrance. It has a restaurant and an enclosed garden. The menu looked excellent (we didn't eat there, but probably would have done if we had realised how good it was). The local beer was in first class condition. The pub was extremely busy so I would eat early if I had children with me. The road can be busy and a pedestrian gate on the corner of the site near the pub would be useful.
The camp shop is limited to basic supplies and other shops require driving.
A large number of the visitors were on their way to Alton Towers which is 1.5 miles away.
We were walking, which proved problematic as the footpaths to the east of the site are very badly kept. However, if you turn right, towards Cotton, at the pub and walk to the end of the village you can get on a footpath through the nature reserve. There are well maintained paths that take down a steep wooded hillside and alongside a dammable and paddleable stream to Oakamoor.
From Oakamoor, where there are a couple of pubs, is a good path and cycle track along the old railway line to Alton and Dunstone. The paths link up to Dimmingsdale with its gardens and woodland walks.
If you get this far stop for coffee and to enjoy the garden at the Ramblers Retreat.

Close to the main gate of Alton Towers and the static pitches were well maintained. There are signs everywhere telling you what you can't do and the wardens give absolutely no leeway on any of the rules (one even followed my son to the toilet black and back in the middle of the night). Toilet facilities were described as 5-star but those in the tent field (which slopes) were a portacabin in which you couldn't turn around and those in the main field were always full and the floor wet and slippy. We only stayed 2 nights but were never able to relax at any time for fear of being told off for something.

Just back from a weekend at this park, found it to be a mixed bag.
Plus points were how clean it was and the playpark for the children and also how close it is to Alton Towers.
Negative points were the tent field is very hilly, the portacabin toilets aren't up to much, but most of all the people who run the site are not the most welcoming hosts, seen a couple being told off when the dad was rolling a ball to a toddler, and seen the man out with the measuring tape checking the size of peoples tents

We booked this site after searching for one close to Alton towers, it seems to be the closest in the area , just a couple of mins drive away from the park, not much else round though, other than a pub. The site was well kept, neat tidy grass which was sloping quite a lot but the wardens gave us extra blocks to put under the van legs so this didn't cause us a problem.
The site has the best kids play area I have ever seen on a caravan site, plenty to do for kids of any age. The showers we clean but only one hook to hang your shower bag, towel, clean clothes and the ones you already had on, I also found every thing got wet through, this was because there was no door or shower curtain separating where you got dry to where you showered.
Overall it is a nice little site I would go back if I were to go to Alton towers again. For me the showers let it down, hopefully the wardens will read the reviews and put extra hooks in the showers.

Nice safe place to stay, close to alton towers 5 mins drive away, porta-cabin showers and toilets but clean, also gave us the code to the main block with more showers, big play area.
Near by pub, walk a bit unsafe at sometimes due to lack of path and cars rushing to leave alton towers.
Camping is on a slight slope was only about another 7-10 tents so lots of space will be returning in september
One point to note is there is a ban on disposable BBQ not a big issue
On a plus side you get a voucher booklet for alton towers and other local attractions! Just Ask

A excellent place to visit alton towers from.
We stayed from tuesday to friday in the top field which is hilly and bumpy and it is quite hard to find the right pitch for the tent if there is a few on
We are a family of four two kids 5&6 the facilities are a high standard as is the site, however there is not much for the kids to do here and the playground was either for the older kids which were boisterous around smaller ones or they were for the younger age although mine played in there for a while they soon got bored.
The site more suits a older family in my eyes or couples wanting a quiet clean break away from it all as it is strict about rules which don't get me wrong is a good thing
The kids only brought there scooters to play on but these were not allowed either which they were reminded of within minutes of getting them out so it was only football which they have no interest in.
We were going to stay on for more days but the kids would have been bored and a handful to be kept amused.
The staff are very helpful and a credit to the site, the little cabin serves the campers basic needs ie sugar tea coffee etc no alcohol stocked here that I saw so be prepared or go to the many shops in the surrounding location if you have to do so
All in all a nice place and we will go back again when we visit the towers

Really nice and clean site with a kids park second to none,
The pitches are on a slope for 99% of the site as we walked round trying to find a level pitch for a possible return trip in the future.
It is missing a a shop as it only has vending machines.
Only real negative is how keen they are on a professional electric hook up leads (which is fine) but then sold them at reception at an extortionate pric.
But would be happy to return in the future as the site is well managed and clean with large pitches for large tents (you pay extra for)
