Please note that as from 2011 The Star has been taken over by the Camping and Caravanning Club. It is now a club site ( open to non members though ) and they will run it from now on.

For sensible well behaved caravanners & campers this site is perfect even if slightly sloping. The staff were as staff should be, when a young mother & small child arrived the warden directed her to there pitch and stayed until he had unhitched and set up her unit with her. The first site I've seen with a wash hand basin in the chemical disposal point, all sites should have this. The site is immaculate as are all the facilities and the dog walk you would not believe the size of it's a whole field, we couldn't fault it, We will back!

We have just returned from a stay there for the August Bank Holiday weekend. The site is larger than I anticipated with tents being mostly on a separate field. The caravan pitches are very much on a slope. So don't forget chocks etc.
The kids loved the play area.It is one of the best they have come across.
After reading plenty of reviews regarding this site I have to admit I was a bit wary of the rules, regulations and curfew time. However after a full day at Alton Towers it was a relief that the site was quiet at a reasonable time.
Please be warned that on a weekend there is an ice-cream van that tours the site at 8pm and he is very very loud.Especially when trying to quieten kids down ready for bed!
My only complaint would be the shower cubicles and the size of them. I made the mistake of using the showers next to the washing up area whilst people were washing up. My shower went from cold to hot to cold to hot.Plus I had to leave my stuff outside the shower as there was only a hook to hang clothes on and they ran the risk of getting wet whilst showering.
We would recommend this site for its proximity to Alton Towers. And we are looking to return for a few days in October purely for that reason.

Just got back from the (washed out) bank holiday weekend.
Dont be put off by all the comments about rules and regulations. Yes, they have them, but in our experience they aren't strictly adhered to, with one exception, they wouldn't allow us onto the pitch without showing them EHU, I explained that we hadn't been informed that we had to show on arrival and it was buried at the back and I wouldn't be emptying the car to show them as it was their error in not informing me, more than happy to show them at the pitch though. Eventually they relented.
Site is on a slope and we found ourselves sliding down the bed in the night. Great pub 200m with brilliant food and drink, also child friendly.
If you're going to Alton Towers this is the site to go to, however there is nothing else to do nearby.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this campsite. On arrival (slightly delayed as the sat nav went totally awry - take extra directions!) we were shown to a pitch then given a talk about what was and wasn't acceptable! The touring area is quite spacious and well laid out.
The toilets and showers were always clean but (and I may be being picky)the showers were only ever warm at best, my husband said he had a hot shower in the mens but the womens showers even at different times during the day were never what I would consider hot. This is the only downside I can think of though.
The campsite is well looked after with a lovely park for the kids - and best of all a massive field with goals to play football in. The brilliant thing about this is that as the children could only play football in this area you always had a decent sized group of kids kicking a ball around which kept our boys very happy.
It does need a decent shop, Morrisons is about 4 miles away and we felt that after a hard day at Alton Towers a chip van on the doorstep would have been a god send. The pub down the road (The Star) was lovely with excellent food and staff.
We would definitely go back - some people moaned about the signs and rules but we usually behave quite well so they weren't a problem!

We stayed here for three nights because it is very close to Alton Towers. The site is a bit expensive at £28 per night however it is well maintained and very spacious. The playground is the best weve come across and our children loved it. There is also a huge playing field which doubles up as a dog walking area (would benefit by adding a fence to separate).
We had an EHU pitch which was at the lower end of the field which had quite a slope to it ( made cooking and eating a bit tricky ). The toilet facilities in the tent field are clean but very cramped ( quite a struggle to help little ones use the toilet). There is a shower block near the playground which is much better than the tent field shower block.
The on site shop is very small but does have essentials. There are a lot of rules to adhere too but this helps ensure a pleasant stay.
We will be returning to Alton Towers next year and will certainly consider this site again.

Decided to take a 2 night/1 day break with the other half and 2 teenage boys after collecting the 2 for 1 Alton Towers vouchers in the Sun Newspaper.
Arrived on site to a lovely welcome and quickly found a nice spot in our allocated area. It turned out we were right next to the road but this didn't really cause any issues as the road is mainly busy during opening and closing times of the theme park.
Excellent facilities and to be honest the cleanest toilet and shower block I have ever seen on a campsite.
Laundry room available - which as it rained quite a lot for our visit came in very handy. (20p per 20 mins dry time & £4 per large wash load)
Excellent site if you have young children as the play area looked lovely and very new.
When we arrived back from the Theme park we were stopped at reception and told 1 of our tents was in the wrong size bracket and our 2 tents were to close together. The gentlemen nicely suggested he would follow us up to our area to explain. Once I pointed out the boys were teenagers and Ide like them right next to me (for the female teenagers safety) so I could keep an eye on them through the evening he agreed that was fine but as the 2 man tent had a large (?) outer sheet it was in the larger tent size bracket and would cost an extra £8 for the 2 nights. This was fine and our fault for not checking really. We popped down that evening to pay but the security guard told us to pay in the morning as we were leaving. We packed up and drove to reception and were told they had been keeping an eye out for us all morning - We had no intention of leaving owing £8 and as our card details were given at the time of booking surely if he had have done a runner with a full £8 this could have been collected from our account.
I have to stress though the park was lovely and a pleasure to visit - next time we will try to take the sun with us. Expensive but certainly worth it!

We spent only one night here en-route to London but if I had to design a camp-site it would probably have been exactly like the Star site. Showers and toilets were clean and well designed though the showers could have had a 'turn off' switch to save water perhaps. Washing up area was excellent and bin area well policed. Access was clear and well marked and welcome by staff real. A quiet, well run site that I would certainly like to visit again as there appear to be so many attractions in easy vehicle reach of this site.

Absolutly fantastic site, we arrived to a lovely welcome and wardens who couldn't have been any more pleasant and helpful. The site is very close to alton towers which is why we chose it.
Everything about this site was lovely the showers and toilets were immaculate. The playground my kids informed me was the best ever.
If I had to find complaint it would have been for a better dog area but apart from that everything about this site is perfect. Ps my kids are 8,11,and 12 so there was something for all of them in the park.

Stayed here mid-July to take our nipper to Alton Towers for the first time (and us, let's be honest!)
First off - very easy to find, and a fantastic welcome at the entrance. Very nice to be told 'pick a spot' rather than the more usual pitch no.
We headed hard left after the gate and up the hill into the main field above the tent EHU pitches, and set up stall against the fence to the left, near the road - not a problem as it's absolutely dead apart from Alton Towers opening and closing time!
It started raining just as we got the tent out of the bag - don't you just love it! - and we set up on a very well drained site with fire emergency points dotted around the field. Next to the tent field is the equally-huge sized play field for the kids complete with goalposts already set up, and a play-area a little further down the hill past the toilet / shower block.
Shower, washing-up and toilet block is a little cramped but apparently there is another one further down in the caravan/motorhome area that we didn't feel the need to use.
Warden very friendly - he made several rounds throughout the evening and made some suggestions for Alton Towers. Some extremely loud lads and lasses were a bit worse for wear and unnecessarily loud, honking the car horn and playing music quite late, but were put to rights very quickly and asked to leave early in the morning.
Fantastic if you want to be nice and close to Alton Towers (less than 5 mins in the car), but to be honest a little expensive given the tent facilities.
All in all though, we'll quite happily go back!
