We stayed at this site primarily for its closeness to alton towers, we found the staff to be very helpful and polite at all times. The first impression is of a well kept and immaculately maintained site. The toilet and shower facilities where spotless and a pleasure to use. Seemed like the hardstanding area for sole use of motorhomes was a recent addition, plenty of water taps close to hand, with an excellent waste water and chemical toilet clearout area inc wash hand basin. Only drawback, feels like you're in a carpark, no grassed area to relax on by your van.
Nice quiet site reflected in the rules, which is appreciated by most of the visitors, new and old, like al murray says ' where would we be without rules '. Nice pub down the hill serves good choice of well kept beers and foods, quiz night on tues. Also down the hill is handy bus service for Alton towers, drops you at main entrance. I would definitely recommend this site if you're visiting Alton towers or anywhere else in the immediate area

We have stayed here 4 times and enjoyed each time, very clean and tidy place, nice clean facilities too. Alton Towers is 5 mins drive away and there's a nice pub across the road.
The park has been taken over by the caravan club so I wonder what changes they will make, I do hope it stays available to non members as we only camp 2 times a year so not worth the annual fee.
There are supermarkets nearby in Cheadle and some takeaways which we have used.

We have put our caravan on a season pitch at this site after been recommended by friends, and we just love it, the staff could not be any more helpful
The showers and toilet blocks are spotless, we have been several weekends now and have never seen those facilities dirty
The playground is fantastic all nice and new with soft ground and woodchipping round the apparatus.
There is a lovely pub across the road, food really nice, there is another pub towards alton that does a mean carvery so I'm told, haven't tried it yet, cheadle is aboout 15-20 mins away, ashbourne is about the same in the opposite direction, which is a very lovely village.
There are a lot of rules posted about but people would complain if the rules weren't in place
Overall we are very happy with this site so far, and would recommend it to anyone, perfect for overnight stop to alton towers

I stayed here for 5 nights. I read a lot of reviews about this site but went there with an open mind. Let me tell you I think this is a fantastic retreat. Very well kept clean polite and respectful.
There are quite a few that moan on but the fact of the matter is you follow the rules and you're ok. The children's park is well kept too.
The one rule I wasn't overwhelmed with was the no visitors but I abided by them. The rules are clear on the website and the no noise between 11pm & 7 am is fantastic.
There isn't much nearby but I found it great for just relaxing and making some lovely friends. I will be paying this site many more visits. Thanks and well done to all the staff. Just goes to show you can keep a well maintained site and still be cheap.

Just got back from a long weekend, the site very clean & tidy. If your looking for a quiet break, then maybe this site is not for you, it is more for families with small children, lovely park for small ones, big playing field for ball games.
No shop in walking distance, so take what you need, they do sell basics on site, but as we found out, a loaf of bread £1.20, didn't think that was too bad, even that it was frozen, but over a month out of date.
The main toilet blocks are lovely, but on the tent field they are very small, if like me over a size 12, its a squeeze getting in the portable toilets!
Lovely pub few mins walk from site, Alton Towers is just over a mile away but not a good road to walk, we got a local taxi, but £7.50 is a rip off! All that said, it is a lovely site just not for us!
Park Owners Reply: All the bread we sell at our parks reception is frozen, and bread may be stored in a freezer for up to 3 Months. All our bread is purchased fresh (and in date) and frozen immediately, as we never know how much we will sell daily. A local service bus is available, along with the Alton Towers Employees bus to get all of our guests to and from Alton Towers. These buses are very inexpensive, and much cheaper than a £7.50 taxi ride.

An immaculate site in terms of maintenance, cleanliness and condition of the camping field (I've seen less clean washrooms & toilets in 5 star hotels !).
Safe gated environment with additional fenced children's play ground with a high level of safety features. Tarmac roads with speed limit & sleeping policemen make them great for kids bikes
They don't hide the fact but there are a lot of rules, nearly all are aimed at making a clear statement that the site will not tolerate 'anti-social behaviour'. The booking form is basically a contract with the site so you have some faith it is going to be a great stay. However the rules are on every bit of paper you get and all over the site. In my opinion they could be shortened and toned down a bit whilst still achieving the clear and desirable objective. Several times I had the urge to add 'No having fun' to the end of the 'No.' list! It's a shame as the site is friendly but perhaps might give the wrong first impressions.
Very little that could be improved upon although other sites on a par with this one might have an evening clubhouse or games room or a bigger range of shopping items and camping / caravan essentials. But lack of these don't really detract from the overall site. There is a supermarket close to the site.

Visitors to the site over the Easter weekend 2010.
Excellent site with clean, well maintained facilities. Shower and toilet blocks very well looked after and cleaned regularly. Private cubicle washing facility in the ladies shower block was welcomed also. The site owners / staff obviously care about the service and facilities that they provide. Our caravan was taken to our pitch by tractor to help to maintain and avoid unnecessary damage to the ground.
Security also of high importance to the owners which was also welcomed and appreciated. By 11pm all was quiet and everybody settled into their units and respectful of other site users. It may seem harsh rules, but it was refreshing to know that we could enjoy evenings without excessive noise from neighbouring units.
We were there with friends therefore 2 separate units, 4x15 year olds who were worn out from exciting days out at Alton Towers, therefore it was suitable for all age groups.
I have to say that I almost wished my children younger again - the play area is absolutely brilliant !
Well done to the owners and staff alike, we will be back.

We had a brilliant time at this campsite but we got lost up the lane next to the campsite after following the satnav.
We didn't have any problems booking in and the staff are friendly and helpful.
There are a lot of rules on this campsite but they are there for a reason.
The play area was great for the kids and the toilet and showers were immaculate.
The only down side is that there is no shop on site, the nearest is in Alton 5-10 minuets away.
We go to Alton towers twice a year and we will be staying there again.

Just back from a 3 night stay, in fact we were the very last people mad enough to be camping in November. When I arrived the welcome was fine and I was given a list of the famous rules. Toilets and Showers were both warm and very clean. The staff all seemed nice and polite. I was given a nice pitch on a slight slope and it had been raining.
I'm sure there are other sites around within a reasonable distance to Alton Towers which will also be worth trying.

Me and my partner booked at The star caravan and camping park because it is so close to alton towers roughly 2 minutes in the car. After booking the site we saw some of the bad reviews the site had on ukcampsite, but thought we try it anyway. When we arrived we were given all the paperwork and directed onto our pitch by a helpful staff who also gave us some great information about local attractions. The pitches are nicely spread apart and the park is very well kept. The toilet and shower bloke were very clean and always nice and warm which was vital in October. The surrounding area was very beautifully as it is all countryside, but it is quite a long drive to the nearest town. I believe the closet shop we found was in alton itself which was 5 to 8 minute drive.
Alton towers was great day out the whole reason for our visit and is a must do if your in the area, its got great rides such as rita the queen of speed, air and lots more.
We also tried drayton manor while in Staffordshire it was no where near as good as alton towers as, it is more suit for younger children and wasn't worth the 25 quid entry each.
Back to the site there are a few rules to abide by but I feel they are more there to help everyone enjoy there stay at the park rather than to ruin people fun. The no noise after 11pm I thought would be harsh but it was quite nice when you had a long day at alton towers and all you want to do is sleep.
I do believe the site could do with a small shop on site jst to make life easier although they do sell milk and few other bits out my the reception hut.
Overall a very nice clean and comfortable site suitable for trips to Alton towers and would stay there again next time we are in the area.
