We just got back from a 2 night stay at The Star Campsite. We went with another family who have 2 children, the eldest is 15 and the youngest is 3 years old.We are a family of 3, our son being 9 years old.
After we had phoned up and booked the stay we decided to see what other people thought of this park by visiting review sites. Our findings were not what we were expecting. There were a lot of negatives. We even thought about phoning up and trying to get our deposit back but then it was only for 2 nights so we thought how bad can it be.
When we arrived we were shown to our pitch and liked the look of the place. The toilets, washing up room and shower block are all spotless [as long as people clean up after themselves].
Yes, there are rules but people know that before booking, if it says no noise after 11.00pm, no ball games only on certain fields etc. Then what do people expect. We did see a couple of times, people being told about playing football when there are signs everywhere telling them `No football in this area`. Me and my son went over the football park to have a kick about, its not exactly far to walk.
Yes,there is someone who comes around at 11.00pm making sure there is no noise but, having a small child with us, noisy nights were not what we were looking for. [Those who say that talking isnt allowed after 11, well, it wasn't what we experienced.] After all, other people, only a few yards from us, may have been trying to sleep. This site is for those that consider others. If your not bothered about others feelings, then don't bother going. We will certainly be returning.
The only bad points are, the showers could do with somewhere to put your clothes while using the shower and most pitches are on a slope, not steep, but slopes nevertheless.
Would recommend. Great for Alton Towers.

We were pleasantly surprised on arrival at The Star Caravan & Camping Park, what an immaculate site!
After reading the reviews before we went, I was apprehensive as to whether we had made the right decision and I am so pleased we went.
The site is situated just off a main road and is just a few minutes drive away from Alton Towers, the surrounding area is very beautiful - picture postcard.
The pitches are very well maintained although on a slight slope but not enough to hinder the set up. Hook up points easily accessible and close by.
The toilets and showers are well kept and plenty of them and the wash up area again is very well maintained and clean.
There is a nice children's play area, although my children didn't use it as they are too young.
You can buy essentials, UHT milk, tea, coffee, frozen bread etc from the little office which is handy as you do have to travel to find an open shop. There is a Londis in Alton village or you can be at Tesco in Uttoxeter within about 20 minutes. The office supply directions too.
My reservations about the signage and rules and regulations were totally forgotten about when we were there. Yes, there are signs but only giving out necessary information and we certainly didn't see anyone shouting out orders and telling people to get to bed. I am thinking that if people have been told in the past, it is probably because they were disturbing other campers or being disruptive!
The rules and regulations only benefit the site, the owners obviously look after it very well and it is only fair that visitors respect the rules and help to keep it as lovely as it is.
We will be returning for sure!

We have just returned from 3 nights stay at this campsite. Before going we were apprehensive having read quite bad reviews. I am so glad we ignored them as we couldn't fault the site at all.
We camped and although the pitch we chose was next to the busy road, which was noisy all day/night, the pitch was well maintained. Most pitches are on a slope so pitch your tent door facing down.
Toilets were also kept very clean and had everything you needed. We used the family room daily which was heated before we went in. Changes are needed though in there. A curtain for privacy on main door is definitely needed and a better shower surround. Next to the shower was a baby seat which came in handy but couldn't be used when the shower was on as baby got soaked. That needs sorting in my opinion as was awkward to keep baby safe and DRY whilst showering!
Staff were very friendly and lovely to both our girls. Chatty and helpful too.
Rules & signs - Going by previous reviews on here we expected to be told off a lot. There are a lot of rules and signs but nothing that I wouldn't expect. Lots of signs explaining what things were for and how to use them. Again, very handy and nothing I didn't expect.
Cost was more than we expected but much cheaper than a hotel and the facilities and location to Alton Towers justified the cost for us.
All in all, well recommended especially families. Looking forward to returning.
Park Owners Reply: As a result of this review by HayleyJane, we have fitted a secondary shower curtain over the bath, that can be drawn across whilst Mum or Dad are taking a shower, so not to get your child wet. Also, we have fitted privacy film to the entrance door window, so as to block out all visibility from outside. We wish to reassure all potential visitors to our park, that we operate a firm but fair set of policies, that are aimed to make a pleasant, peaceful , and very secure place to stay. We actively encourage all constructive feedback about our park, and welcome any suggestions, where we can improve the service we offer. We very much look forward to welcoming all you Mum's and Dad's with your Children to our park in the very near future.

Well manicured & trimmed site. Tents mainly on an open sloping windy field south facing with great view. Road nr hedge can be noisy. Large turnover of Alton tower 1 night campers.
Expensive & not great value. E.G. A 2adults +3kids & a largish tent is £30 - on the continent you get elec, private area, swimming pool etc for that sort of charge. No shop but some limited supplies in reception.
Touring caravan area looked much nicer, statics really quite ugly with concrete & tarmac surrounds (no grass at all?), motor home area is tarmac car park al a Tesco style.
Award loos? didn't see anything that great but the main site facilities are very good. Tent field portacabins are poor & inadequate for 50+ tents /esp when busy, no hot water in gents & one of 2 showers didn't work when somebody flushed loo.
Some aspects of previous reviews are wrong - there is pedestrian access after hours (11pm), via a gate within the main gate, or you hop over the field gate at the top & staff do let you in but beware there is limited parking outside if your late back & yes do be quiet. Also digital TV signal is good on tent field.
Play area with some very good equipment & kids enjoyed it. Lots (I mean lots!) of rule signs esp in play area but the kids don't care & just ignore them
Staff friendly & helpful.
As said best summed up as an Alton Towers punters site.

Expected more than a tiny portaloo given the 5 star billing! Not the cleanest either.
There are too many fussy rules to allow any enjoyment. Keeping the noise down is important but the ferocity of the warden is a sight to behold as he patrols with a keen ear and an intrusive torch, a little unsavoury really.
The road noise is more of a problem than any hushed conversations.
This is aimed at the static caravan brigade. That said you need to have your tape measure handy as you pay by the yard for a tent.
Handy for Alton Towers but there is more to this area with some great walks not too far away. Pub nearby is excellent and well worth a visit or two.

This is a very clean well run site and we have booked another weekend here in sept.
The shower and toilet block (womens) were very clean and were closed daily for cleaning - another block of toilets is available during this time. The park staff were friendly and helpful and the security on the gate was good.
There is a long list of rules but as a quiet family these were not an issue.
The playground was good with a range of equipment for different areas. If you are using it for Alton Towers it would be great but if you are booking for a longer spell and like an active site with lots to do this may not be the site for you.
It is a peaceful site which suited us (two children under 5) but may be boring if you have older children. Couples would probably also enjoy this site as children aren't allowed to run around the site - the playground and ball field are where they are asked to play. Great also if you have a dog as the dog walking field is large

We have just returned yesterday from the Star campsite. We stayed from Tuesday to originally Sunday - but we enjoyed our stay so much, we added an extra day on.
We found the staff all very welcoming and friendly. There were rules, some quite strict however, rules are rules and I agreed with them to be honest, especially the no noise after 11pm - The no visitors rule I found was a super safety measure. The park was very well used and loved by my 3 children.
The toilet and shower blocks (both on the camping site and in the main block) were immaculate.
I had read reviews before hand so was aware that there wasn't a shop on site - only vending machines in the reception area so I made sure I had enough 'stock' with me. However there was a Tesco, Morrisons and a Netto all nearby - within a 15 minute drive. I found it surprising reading some reviews on here saying about having a disposable barbeque. As I was informed upon booking that they ask campers NOT to bring disposable barbeques, and I heard the woman relaying the same information during a phone call, when I was in the reception area. - Strange!?
The only down side I could say could have been a problem, was the slight slope on the camping site but we were relatively lucky in where we pitched our tent, so this really wasn't much of a problem for us.
The beautiful scenery and the peace and quiet was absolutely amazing, serenity and tranquil - very relaxing.
Being so close to Alton Towers I would definitely recommend this site to anyone. I have no hesitation in saying I would stay at this site again.

Fantastic site if you are planning a short break to include Alton Towers.
The site is just over a mile from the Theme Park. We spent a day in the Theme Park and a half a day in the Water Park.
We rarely used the portakabin on the camping field, preferring the short walk to the main toilet and shower block which was very clean.
The owners were very welcoming and take a lot of pride in the site.
The pitches do slope however they are kept in top condition. When we visited some areas were cordoned off to let the pitches recover.
Top Tip - Take food with you otherwise you rely on the village shop.
I would not hesitate to return to this site when I next visit Alton Towers.

There are some good & not so good reviews.
The bad bits:
There were so many rules & signs up about the place. Some saying that the park closed at 9pm & that only kids between 1 & 9 should use the park & up to 30kg? Signs were but in static owners flower tubs, on walls, in the toilets, on outer toilet doors.
No Visitors were allowed onto the park.
Static caravan owners did not want people walking round their caravans & plenty of signes saying this.
No noise after 11pm which was acceptable but I was not happy as walked up to the toilets just about 11pm and was talking quietly & was told to keep the noise down?
I heard that the wardens came round to people's caravans as well to ask the same, but we were near the seasonal pitches & they were talking & drinking in the awning & nothing was said to them (after 11pm as well)!
Kids were not to play near the static caravans, which is fair enough but four static caravans were near the park & in my mind they should have not been right by the park & had their own little piece of grass, but the wardens came out & told the kids off. Either they want kids on the park or they don't!
The toilets were nice. There was a newer block with 5 showers & 1 toilet for the men. The only issue was they had 1 hook behind the shower door & this was not enough as your clothes got wet because there was no shower curtain.
There was another toilet block on the opposite side of the road with two more showers & toilets & sinks. There was also a laundry room but they only had 1 washer at £4.00 a go which was madness prices & 1 dryer at 20 pence per 8 minutes. They closed this room off at 7pm which was madness as if you were at Alton Towers & you wanted to do some washing you would not be able too. When we came back people stayed in the laundry room so there clothes would not get locked in. I found this annoying & most unacceptable & no childen allowed in there as well.
You had to be off by 11am which we didn't because it had rained part of the weekend & everything got muddy. They did not mind which was good but 11am was crazy.
You get a sticker for your car & a label for the van when you arrive & both the times for departure are on there. We did not ask to stay longer but we had no choice because there was so much cleaning to do with the groundsheets & awning (because of the mud).
They cut the grass while we were there but they seemed to be doing this for the best part of the day. Gave you a headache after.
The good bits:
The nearest supermarket is Morrisons in Cheadle (about four miles away.
The road near the site were terrible as hilly in places & tight. Had to go to Stafford train station first & it was about twenty miles to the site. The roads were bad in places & was glad to get out.
Alton Towers was about a mile away but there was a bus service to Alton Towers from outside the site.
(Cost £5.00 to park in Alton Towers per day).
There is a pub about 200 yards from the site. Did not have a meal but they were expensive. I think because you are right by Alton Towers it seems ok to add £3.00 to everything!
I would go back again but I felt as though you were on holiday & those signs. Wanted to rip them off.
Stayed at Quarry Walk last year but that is another story!
