Site was immaculate. The grass looked as if it had been cut with scissors!
Play area was great.
Showers and toilet block good and clean, there was always someone in there cleaning up which was fantastic.
Tenting rules were great as no one was allowed to get too close to the tent. Owners and staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help in any way possible.
There is a fantastic pub just down the road which has a nice beer garden and serves fantastic food for when you want a break from the camping stove.
Overall a brilliant site, great location.

Stayed here May half term. Was a bit apprehensive about the other reviews. I think the owners must have a sign maker in the family as there were signs everywhere! I wasn't hounded about the rules when I arrived and was directed to a nice pitch with a bit of a slope and the warden Carl? was pleasant and helpful. Water point/EHU was close by. No tv signal & no booster boxes. They don't allow visitors but did allow my father to stay 1 night to dog sit. He was very annoyed as he was up for 6am and couldn't get out of the site as the entrance was gated until 7:45 am. The site in itself was immaculately clean and quiet. The play area was pretty smart for the kids. The shower and toilet block was a bit of a let down. In appearance it was spot on but the showers didn't seem to get mopped out regular enough and I took to mopping out my own. They were free and tepid all of the time but ample. You have to keep pressing the button though! My son showered with me every night as I think the men dipped out as there weren't enough showers. Laundry room fine. Washing up area had about 5 sinks all clean. Dog walk a good bit away. Vending machine in reception hut and they stocked a small amount of the basics. Day out to Alton Towers good as its very close & it was nice to go in opposite direction of all the cars. Don't take the route in from motorway it's not good for vans. I bottomed out twice. Nice site for visiting Stoke/Alton or a quite break.

This place is simply brill, the staff are very friendly, there is an excellent play area for children, not to mention a large field to exercise your doggy. The bathroom facilities are immaculate. The site is very clean and is very well maintained to a very high standard, it is also very quiet. The site has many awards in recognition of the service it provides. The scenery around Cotton is breath taking and Alton Towers is a short drive away. Towns such as Ashbourne, Buxton, Derby and Stoke are all in easy reach. The site is also in easy access of the Peak District too. We had electric hook up in our caravan, and our one year old daughter and lurcher thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We found it to be very reasonably priced, we stayed for four days and even though we only live 20 miles away from the site (in the same county) it took us away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The bird song in the morning and in the early evening is so entertaining, who needs radio. Also just across the road is a pub which is very handy.

Recently stayed at The Star to visit Alton Towers which is around a mile away. Upon arrival the check in process was simple and we were directed up to the tent field. The field was large and spacious, with it's own portacabin type toilets. There was a main toilet block further down the site which also contained the shower block.
The site was very clean and obviously well looked after by the owners. As previously mentioned there are a lot of rules to be followed, but all in all it was a great location for a weekend away with many people there pitching for one/two nights whilst visiting the theme park (although I wouldn't recommend walking to Alton Towers from the site as the road is NSL with no footpath).

Reading through most of the earlier reviews I too agree with the overall cleanliness of the site. You can tell that it is looked after. We have a big unit and were placed on one of the flatter spots, which still required some levelling and chocking. Take some blocks etc with you just in case you end up with a not so level pitch. The children's playground is one of the best we have seen as there is plenty for them to do. We stayed here for 3 nights as a base for Alton Towers and spent minimal time on the site. You are about 4 miles away from any shops (Cheadle) and take aways etc but there is a nice pub opposite. The reception offered frozen bread and milk so do not expect to get anything else.
The only disappointing aspects of the site are the facilities, there are simply not enough of anything. Although clean and tidy there were only 2 showers in the men's block with some more in the middle of the filed. There are only 2 washing up sinks for the whole campsite, this always resulted in ques. The chemical waste doubles up for general waste water as well and is in the middle of 3 or 4 pitches.
If you have a motor home you may as well park in a Tesco car park, they were parked on tarmac with no grass in sight.
Personally I would not look to stay here longer than a couple of days, if we had picked this site for our main summer holiday I would have been pretty disappointed. I can not though fault the site for it's cleanliness neither the staff for the friendly welcome.

Ive stayed here a few times and it is a lovely clean quiet park. Although only a mile form Alton Towers you get no noise at all. It is in the middle of the countryside and the views are beautiful!
The toilets and showers are beautifully clean and a pleasure to use. The staff are great and we actually had someone pitch too close to us and a member of staff asked them politely to move their tent over a bit, which they did do with no problems.
Just one bit of advice, don't take the pitch next to the gate as you will get no sleep! Apart from that it is a lovely site.

Just got back from being at the Star and I must say we were quite impressed, a little bit overpriced but very good to say the least. The pitch was on a slight slope which people who have stayed before have quoted, staff are very helpful , kids playground area is excellent my two never stayed off it. Showers are warm and are powerful. In a perfect place for sightseeing, Alton Towers a stone throw away, Ashbourne a few miles down the road. The rules that are in place are great no noise after 11 would recommend.

This was our first camping experience and we were a little apprehensive to say the least. First impressions of the campsite were very good, BUT! Please read on. A very well maintained site. The camping field was not too busy during the week and therefore we had good choice of where to pitch the tent. We pitched it at edge of field near trees, which turned out to be near a fairly busy road. This meant it can be quite noisy from road traffic at night. To add to the noise was the busy flight path above. The shower/toilet block was a short walk away. This was very clean and well maintained. Plenty of showers and toilets meant no queuing. There was also a toilet block in the camping field. Washing dishes could be a problem as there was only 2 washing up sinks, therefore queueing was inevitable. The playground was very good for those with children. During the third night of our of stay we were sat outside of the tent quietly chatting as we had the previous nights. We were under no circumstances being a nuisance to any other campers. Only when walking to the toilet could you hear other campers also quietly talking. Suddenly out of nowhere, in the dark, we were very startled by the owner of the campsite who had crept upon us telling us to turn off the lantern and go into your tent also informing us that he would stay put until we had done so. He not only made us feel like naughty school children, but also made us feel very anxious. We had heard that this campsite was very strict but as we were not disturbing anyone we thought this was an offhand approach. The same evening we witnessed the owner banging on another tent telling them to stop talking. Can you imagine how scary that could be for small children. If you are only visiting this campsite for Alton Towers I would advise you use alternative accommodation.

This place is one of the best campsites I have ever stayed on. The site itself is very well maintained. The shower and toilet blocks are spotless. The pitches are a good size considering that you MUST pitch 6 meters from any other tent. There is a fantastic childrens play area. But best of all it is only 1mile from Alton Towers. This was the reason we stayed there. The down side to this site is the very strict rules they have. Having read the rules list (and it is extensive) when we arrived it would appear that this site is not for people who like to have FUN. The staff regularly tour the site looking for rule breaks. No ball games, No roller skates, No water pistols(honestly!). We saw 2 small boys throwing a tennis ball to each other in a wide open patch of grass. They were spotted by the staff and their parents were warned! The nearest shop is 4 miles away in Cheadle. The nearest pub is 200 yds out of the gate and serves food and is very nice. Stict noise curfew (11pm). A great site but the RULE POLICE spoilt it for us a little.

The Star is the best By far ! This has got to be one of the cleanest campsites we have been to in many a year. Litter free-short grass (better than my front lawn)-no noisy yobs-and no clubhouse. Our children were able to play out on the play park which was just great and kept them amused for hours. We were here for the 12th to the 19th July 2007, and this was when we had a lot of rainy days to cope with, so we decided to talk to the reception staff to get some assistance with places to go out for days (we didnt go to Alton Towers)
