We visited for my daughters birthday, hired a static for the weekend from the site, it was really nice the owners are very helpful. My children were quite happy 15-13-5 yrs old. We only spent the late evenings on site as our time was spent in Alton Towers and then finding somewhere to eat. There is a hotel just outside the entrance to Alton Towers I would certainly recommend - we had a lovely meal there the kids really enjoyed it. The star pub nr site do not accept card payments which was a pain but the hotel food made up for that. I would have taken out tourer but for speed I decided to hire a static which was quite cheap.

We found this to be a very efficiently run site with the rules there for a reason. They even put a sticker on your car window that automatically activates the entry/exit gates without you having to get out of the car. The award-winning loo block is next to the static caravans and the tent field only gets a portakabin one, but maybe they thought we'd want it more rustic as the rest of the site is so slick. Kids love the playground. Too bad there is no shop - the Spar market in nearby village of Alton open until 10pm, but beware poor little Alton at opening and closing times for Alton Towers, it gets a non-stop stream of traffic. Of course the campsite is ideally located for the same reason!

June 2005 Hi, just want to reply to previous comments about this site being expensive and having silly rules and toilets being miles away. The site is cheaper than any Camping and caravanning club site and the cheapest one i have stayed at. The no noise after 2230 is sensible and not meant for babies who cannot understand the rule. Obviously if you have a screaming child who can't understand you and a load of larger louts who can understand you who are you gonna throw out. Yes the toilets are a bit of a treck from the top of the tent field but it's the biggest tent field i've seen for miles and the childrens play area is wonderfull. I will agree that the toilet block in the tent field has small cubicles but this is the only downside. To prove how good it is were going back for 7 days inOctober

August 2005 Just returned from a two night stay at this site. Would i go again..... well yes but just because of the convenience for alton towers.
On booking in two married couplesIi spoke to a cheerfull gentleman, however on arriving on saturday lunchtime, our welcome wasnt as such.
Clean site with a great park, although if you have kids like us (although they weren't with us) it seems strange that they close the park at 9pm, if like us you've been to alton towers, then for food the kids just want 1/2 hour or so before bed.
Pub down the road was closed on a sunday from 5pm and all pubs in the area seem to stop doing food at 9pm.
Toilets (sml block) were clean although a tight squeeze, the main shower block was a long walk, as we choose a pitch well away from others, but was clean although we did use it at about 7am, took us a while to get in though as when you book in they give you security code for the door and we forgot it.
The no noise rule was a bit of a pain as we were there to enjoy ourslves and even talking quietly to be wrong weve been to other sites with our kids 8 and 2, and they are generally the ones that make most of the noise. The rule is ok but what about a six in the morning screaming child when other want to sleep on a sunday morning.
As long as you dont mind rules this is an ok site and a good base for alton towers.

August 2005 Just stayed here for 5 nights and friends joined us for the last couple of nights.
They do have a lot of rules but I dont think its unreasonable to expect everyone to be quiet after 11pm.
The toilets and showers are clean and are a few hundred yards from the tents, although there is a toilet block in the tent field.
It is best to camp either at the very bottom or top of the field which are the flatest parts.
The childrens playground is really good for 6 years plus.
Alton Towers is 1 mile away, Matlock with the Heights of Abraham and Gullivers World is about 30 mins north. We also went to the Childrens Museum at Sudbury which is free for National Trust members it is about 20 mins away. We also went to Drayton Manor theme park which was about 45 mins south east.
The nearest supermarket is Somerfield which is in Cheadle (Staffs not Cheshire) about 4 miles south and that is where the cash machine is. It is open til 8pm most nights and 10pm Thurs and Fri.
I would highly recommend the site, they have very high standards and work hard to maintain them, probably why the staff are grumpy!

July 2005 A beautifully maintained site. Rather a lot of strict, unneccesary rules, made me feel like i was back at school.
The toilet block and showers were spotless. However, they were quite a distance from the tent site, we actually had to drive to the toilet when it was pouring down.
Why are they situated near the caravans when they propably have their own toilet anyway?
Will probably go back as it is only a couple of minutes drive to Alton Towers.

July 2005 We stayed here for two nights - two adults and one child and one baby. Beware, that you can only pay by CASH - the website doesn't seem to say that anywhere and the nearest cash point is some 15minutes away by car and not very easy to find (in a supermarket car park). Also be aware of the many rules that the site have. We fell fowl of the no noise after 10.30pm rule because our baby was crying!!, not very family friendly although the sites facilities are really good and cater for older children quite well. All that said, it is really convenient for Alton Towers and we would stay again.

July 2005 Overall highly recommended site was very clean and well maintained. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Disagree with the previous reviews as we found the toilets and showers to be spotless at all times and although the gents only had a few showers in the main block, there was an additional block of 4 available. Children loved the played area and it is a great location for Alton Towers. Down sides, if you have a larger caravan, like us, you will need leveling blocks as some of the pitches are on quite a slope. Laundry closes at 7p.m. which we felt was too early, 9p.m.would have been better. However we will happily return in the future.

July 2005 Just returned from a one week holiday at this park. First impressions; clean, well maintained but a bit of a grumpy welcome.
Toilets / showers well kept, but a bit of a hike from tent area. The dog loved his stay and also his short stay at kennels which was recommended by owner of the site. Site was close to theme parks so the whole family had an enjoyable week!

July 2005 This is a lovely, clean and well maintained campsite. Booking in at reception, we were met by a very nice man who told us where to plug in our EHU and where the water point was. He told us to plug in and pitch as far as possible from the next tent as our cable would reach. The space we had was fantastic, certainly plenty of room for any tent, whatever the size.
The main toilet / shower block was spotless, I especially liked the private sinks where you could brush your teeth and wash without being watched.
The children's playground was excellent, something for little ones and older children too.
We were pitched quite close to the entrance / exit so small children would need to be watched very closely.
The negatives were that the site slopes quite considerably which did make sleeping, cooking and eating a bit interesting but not too bad especially since we were only there for two nights. Also the nearest shop was 4-5 miles away, which means a car journey to get any essentials that you may need, like beer! Overall I would definitely return for a 2/3 day stay. For future visits we would remember the beer and pitch so our feet are facing downhill - might not roll off the airbed then!:0)
