We were able to go here for a family weekend. Nothing is too much trouble for Mark the owner and his staff. BUT the weather let us down. This didn't stop the kids using the play equipment, all new equipment, safety flooring. I have never known there to be a problem on this site. The toilets are always clean and tidy regardless of weather, showers are always available.
On the tent field there is a separate toilet block so you dont have to trek to the main one. Mark has rules. This is merely to provide the best camping experience for everyone! For anyone looking for a well run, and managed site with rules you would expect to protect your stay, then I can think of no better. The best thing about The Star is the welcome you get, the ongoing availability of assistance, be it camping advice, or just finding the nearest chippy!

We came here on the the 18th-21st June. The campsite was really nice and the guys that were there to help us were really friendly. As people have said, the site was on a hill but that didn't prove much of a problem. The toilets and showers were clean but we didn't really think they were award winning in any way. Even though we didn't need to queue for the washing facilities, there weren't enough for the whole campsite as there were only 2. The campsite does provide some basic necessities which was good because the nearest tesco/lidl was in Uttoexeter which was a good 20-30 mins drive away. There was, however, a pub nearby which did good food and if you wanted a change after that, Alton had a few restaurants which was about a 10min drive away. As the site said, it is about a 5min drive away from Alton towers which was why we decided to stay at this campsite as it was really convenient. Overall, this was a nice quiet area to stay in and provided what we needed but was maybe too remote for getting the food, etc we needed

Picked this site as it was close to home to try out our new tent. The camping fields were on a slight slope but we did not find this a problem. The site was well looked after and toilets and showers were kept clean. I felt there were not enough toilets, showers or washing up sinks to cope with the number of pitches they have. Also there was only one toilet block which meant a long walk to use the loo! The rules kept the site quiet although they do seem to change as will, for example when we arrived the rules stated check out was noon but when we left there was a sign saying check out today is 11am! We also did not like the fact they had no pitches marked out and other campers would just walk right up to your tent on the way past. The area is nice though and there are some good walks and some good pubs around. The Star is a 2 minute walk and very nice. Also handy for Alton Towers but this does meant a fair amount of road noise at times.

We have just returned from a short stay to this site. The facilities are excellent, the toilets and shower blocks are very clean and cleaned on a regular basis. In addition to this the site is very well kept and very clean and tidy. I found the staff to be very friendly on booking, arrival and for information. There are many rules but these are for the protection of people who are camping and to be honest makes the site very peaceful. It was very pleasant not being harassed by noisy neighbours, as most people tended to abide by the 6 feet rule. The site is very close to Alton Towers amongst other tourist attractions. The only downside is that the tent camping field along one side runs alongside the main road, which is used throughout the night by cars and lorries, this was quite frightening and noisy at times especially in the evening when Alton Towers turned out!, the camping field is also not a level pitch so even the slight slope caused us a few problems with out air beds sliding!.

Just come back from a soggy bank holiday weekend at this site. I read all the previous reviews prior to booking and would like to add my two pence worth. Positives. Very Clean (gardens and park etc) Very Quiet Negatives The entry gates and booking in system is a joke, expect a long delay. Pitches very close together and we could not get the car out at some points due to random layout of the park. Gents toilet was very very ordinary, I cannot understand why it has won 'loo of the year', only two showers and 4 toilets. 4 additional showers in a portable cabin! Only TWO washing up basins for 180 pitches! The only views we had from our caravan was other caravans. If you want a very basic site which is very quiet then great, but beware of the facilities, these are not all the website cracks them to be and you will be surrounded by other vans on all sides.

I've been to this site twice now and its lovely to see a professional run site. There are a lot of rules, but that just helps everything run smoothly. The kids playground is fantastic and the best I've seen, my kids loved it and can't wait to go back. The only downside to the site is the ground is gently sloping. Other than that a lovely run site, that's really handy for Alton Towers.

We chose it because of the location and close proximity to walking trails and Alton Towers. However on arrival we were questioned about our reason for wanting to camp there. We were not made to feel welcome, on the contrary we were made to feel unwelcome by the authoritarian attitude of the owner of the camp. We were told that no portable barbecues were allowed and these were confiscated from our car on arrival. Our friends two little boys, aged 3 and 6 were kicking a ball and we were told they would have to stop because no ball games are allowed. Rather than feeling relaxed and at ease we were anxious and stressed not knowing what rules and regulations would be imposed on us next. The campsite is deathly quiet because of peoples fear of breaking restrictions.

Just spent Easter at this fantastic site, I phoned last minute and was offered a non electric hook up, the staff at the park where fantastic even offering to re-charge my caravan when we went for days out. The site itself is extremely well kept, the showers/bathrooms are immaculate, the kids playground was fantastic for my three kids whose ages are 4, 6 and 10. The pitches are on a slight slope, but the wardens are more than happy to help you out with large wooden blocks. The Star Inn does really good food and its only a couple of minutes walk away. Alton Towers is minutes down the road (we didn't go because I object to paying £41 per adult) instead we enjoyed the fabulous weather, sat outside the van with a glass or two of wine! My only gripe was the lack of convenience store within in the area, you have to drive into Alton, which is a pain if you only need milk. Will definitely be returning though.

Stayed at Star with no complaints. However I am biased as I had seasonal tourer and then static on this site for over 5 years and I love it. Park management is strict but fair. You know the rules so don't break them. The rules help to make this a safe site for kids and friendly one for adults. You won't get any rowdy behaviour so you can enjoy and nice quiet break with a bit of peace and quiet not a million miles from civilisation. One reviewer mentioned the gates closing at 11pm what they don't realise is that there is a walk through gate at the bottom of the park just opposite Star Inn pub and a walk through gate at the main gate. The locked gates are to prevent traffic again to avoid noise and disturbances to the campers.

Lovely clean well managed site. On a bit of a slope, but not too much of a problem. Lovely play area for the kids. Very handy for Alton Towers. No site shop so bring plenty of provisions. Short walk from the pub (Star Inn?) where we had a lovely meal. Would definitely visit again.
