Our family visited this site for the first time and I have to say we were very impressed all of the facilities were clean. There is lots of ground for the children to run around which is great for them to burn off steam. Also it so close to Alton towers which is great. We will definitely be returning soon.

I stayed here for 3 nights when exploring Staffordshire including alton towers. It is an excellent location in lovely surroundings. The owners of the place are friendly and basically left us to it which was fine by us, although the personal touch could have been a little more. The value is excellent as we're the general facilities, which were on the basic side but clean, convenient and more importantly than adequate. I would stay here again.

We booked this site as a last minute treat to take the boys to Alton Towers. And we were not dissapointed.
We were sited on the top field, which as previously stated is at somewhat of an incline, but with a little intuition and a few bricks and pieces of wood we soon had ourselves a level playing field. We stayed on the site for four nights, and found the staff to be nothing but friendly, and very accomodating.
The toilet block on the top field is a little dated, however it was very clean, and well stocked, the main toilet block was only a short walk away, and again very well maintained.
With two supermarkets, and two pubs very close their was always a good choice of food on our menu.
Albeit not the cheapest site around I would highly recommend it for its proximity to Alton Towers, which is only a two minute drive away. All in all we were very satisfied with this site, and would recommend to others.

My 10yr old daughter & I have just returned from out 1st ever camping trip at this campsite. Having been caravaning when I was small wanted to give my little lady the same fun I have. We booked provisionally as a test run while going to Alton Towers too. We only live 35 mins away but thought we'd make the day trip more exciting!
We camped in our new tent ( no electric) in the camping field, with really spacious big pitches it was a really nice 1st trip!
There were toilets & a dishwashing room in the tent field & then a really good washroom just about 200m away on the main site. Had about 6 well sized shower rooms in the ladies.
The park was great for my daughter & busy most of the time. There seems to be a really good atmosphere for the kids there, I think there was a lot of seasonal people there.
The site was a great mix of statics, caravans, campervans and tents. So a nice mix of people.
The little office doubled as a little shop selling basics & offering advice about the area. All the staff we meet were really nice & helpful. We will definitely be back.

We visited Alton The Star Camping And Caravanning Club Site with a view to visiting Alton Towers. We arrived on Friday evening at 7. 45 and was shown to a choice of pitches, all were big enough for our unit with plenty to spare. Electric hookups and water taps were all close to hand with a chemical waste point at the top of the field. The pitches are all on a slope with the ones on the flat being towards the bottom of the field. The toilets were very clean and tidy and of a high standard and cleaned between 10. 30 & 12. 00. This is a site that we will definitely be visiting again weather its for Alton Towers or just a chilax. Thanks to the Staff who were very helpful and obliging where they couldn't do enough for us.

Drove into the site and was immediately met by a very friendly member of staff. After check in I was shown my pitch and all the facilities were pointed out en-route, I had a fully serviced pitch but it was good to know the location of these. We did eventually use them all the same, everything spotless. The site was relatively busy when I arrived at the weekend but noise was never an issue. Set up was easy, my pitch was nearly level but those on grass will need blocks to level. I admired the hardy tenters, some looked to be pitched at about a 30% incline.
There is a small shop on site but since I had travelled over 250 miles I needed a big shop so I headed into Cheadle (about 10 minutes away)where you will find Morrisons and Asda. The route to Cheadle is full of bends and very steep hills, careful negotiation is required. On that subject I would advise anyone arriving with a caravan NOT to approach the site from the Cheadle direction due to these conditions. I came via the A52 which brings you in from the North, although this approach also has a 16% gradient hill to ascend and tight corners it is a much better road.
On a Saturday night there is a takeaway van on site, we sampled the fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed them.
I didn't try the local pub but it is a very short walk from the site. There is also a great children's play area on site.
The big reason for visiting here is the close proximity to Alton Towers where we spent many a day testing all the rides many times.
My only niggle with this site is the cost. It is a lovely site and that can make or break a holiday but it is also the most expensive that I have visited.

This review is mainly for the static hire, as other points have been covered well by other reviews - in general I found the site to be fine, quiet after 11pm and the staff were excellent and helpful with enquiries.
The mobile home however was not completely what I expected. It was adequate - but I expected better from the C&CC as their sites are usually immaculate and also considering the expensive price of the van hire. Most problems were small but taken together I found that we didn't get great value for money (a week here with less facilities and a worse van cost £100 more than Haven did in the previous week).
Problems were :
An older van (not that this is a problem as such, but it is normal to advertise this fact in advance)
No grass area or veranda beside the van to sit out (just a tarmac car park area)
No chairs or loungers provided
No clothes dryer to hang out the window if for any reason you didn't want to use the tumble dryer
Fairly uncomfortable living room seats
Lumpy matresses and very flat pillows
Van not that clean on arrival, eg crumbs in the breadbin (this despite the C&CC taking £100 'deposit' to be returned after departure as long as the cleaner is satisfied with the cleaning job you've done)
As I said none of them that huge, but when you pay a bit more I think you expect that bit more too. Most of the points above I wouldn't expect to be missing from even a cheap hire - they're all really basic things. I would go back to the site with our own tent in a heartbeat, but I think I would look elsewhere for a static to rent.

What can I say. We were delayed and arrived quite late. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.
Great site, pitches are level and a good size. Toilet/showers hot and kept very clean. Good park for the kids to play in.
5 min drive to Alton towers which was the main reason for staying. Lovely site kept in very good order. Convenient for touring the peak district
Would definitely recommend to anyone with what ever unit you use

Stayed at the star on the 27/7/13, we were meet by the head warden steve who shook our hands and shown us to our pitch, we pitched on the grass but there are plenty of hardstandings if you require them, the site was very clean and well maintained,
The shower and toilet blocks are very clean, there is a lovely play area for small children.
There are some nice walks locally especially down to oakamore, I must say all the staff are very friendly here, especially the owners who were very welcoming.

This is a camping & Caravan Club site but welcomes non members. We stayed for 5 nights and were very impressed with the site. Very good toilet and shower facilities which were kept spotless by the resident wardens who were a very friendly and helpful bunch, taking us to our pitch and ensuring we were pitched OK.
There are a good number of flat hard standings but the grass pitches are on a slope which means caravans have to be blocked up to get level, so don't forget to take plenty of blocks.
Whilst the obvious attraction of the site is its location close to Alton Towers, we were more interested in the closeness to the Peak District National Park and the access to some of the most spectacular countryside in the country.
The local pub was a bit hit and miss about opening apparently so we didn't go there but the Weatherspoons in Cheadle, a few miles away, had excellent meal offers most nights of the week (steak night, curry night etc). We can thoroughly recommend this site.
