July 2005 Motorhomers beware - the terms sardines and squashed instantly come to mind here! Strangely, campsite rules say that campervans must be 6m apart at least - well, the owners obviously felt rules are meant to be broken.
Another anomaly is that campers are not allowed to use disposable bbqs under any circumstances. The reason, apparently, is that people were not extinguishing them properly and setting fire to the rubbish skips. But,oddly enough, you can use regular bbqs with charcoal!
This is otherwise a very nice and very clean and tidy site, with a great kiddies playground and lots of space for tents. However, it is expensive and the price quoted to us over the phone was not what they charged us on site.

July 2005 I camped at this site last night with my husband and three small kids and we really enjoyed it. The site seemed spacious and relaxed and all the staff I encountered were really friendly and helpful.
Although it seemed a bit on the dear side costing £15 for us all for one night in a tent, the facilities more than made up for it. The loos and showers were really clean, as was the whole site. The play area was brilliant - really well maintained and a variety of things keeping kids from toddlers to teenagers entertained. There was a 5mph speed limit which people were sticking to, so I felt safe to let my 5 year old and 3 year old wander about without worrying about cars.
The site is surrounded by mature trees and there are wonderful views all around.
The pitch was on a slope which did mean that I kept finding myself slipping down the side of the bed in the night, but that was the only downside. We're looking forward to going back again.

June 2005 Very nice camp site with a seperate field for tents. Slight incline so few flat spots but it's not a big problem. Polite staff and the 11 oc quiet rule seems to work during off peak seasons. Childrens park is a brill idea especially when erecting tent.
Toilets are ridiculous as they are not even big enough for children. You need gymnastics skills to have a wee. Showers in the blue square block are a waste of time cos if someone is washing up and you're having a shower, yes you've guessed it, the one having the shower ends up frozen or burnt.
Brill apart from that and only 1 mile from Alton Towers. Come on where else would you want to go?. A must.

May 2005 First impression was that campsite was very well maintained, clean, neat and tidy. Campers are allowed to pick their own site in allocated area, so tendancy for cramping in. (tent pitched 1.5 metres to back of our friends!). Camping area on an incline, which made sleeping interesting, and cooking even more so! Only 1 toilet/shower block which was about as far away from tents as possible. So far as winning awards for clean loos, have to say I wasnt impressed. toilet and showers were small, and both ended up grotty by about 9am. 11pm quiet rule enforced, however, didnt seem to stop the little yappy dog from barking all weekend! Local pub run by very rude man who managed to upset several families in 10 minutes. Food not great but reasonably priced.

September 2004 We have just come back from the Star camp site and found that the site itself is very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and the 11 o,clock rule of no noise is very well maintained. Some of the pitches were shall we say on a good slope . I am still trying to work out why they have the toliet block over the other side of the park near the static caravans (who I feel don't need them that close) The new porta potty was very helpful.
Te pan bash was disappointing as there are only two sinks and is a small end to the extra men's shower block . The ladys have no less that 8 showers in the main block compared to the two in the gent's.
There is a good size field for the dog for a run and is very clean (no mess so your not having to walk round watching were you put your foot). Over all very clean and the play area was well worth the trip for the kids.

August 2004 First Time I have ever been camping. I now have the bug ! This site felt very secure. The play area was well maintained clean and very busy! My daughter Age 3 had a fab time. The Shower and toilet facilities were very clean. The toilet block in the tent field had very small cubicals. Gymnastic skills needed to get in and out of the toilet cubical. Overall a fantastic site which i will be returning to. The receptionist was a bit grumpy. Local Pub very nice be careful if you are tall(low Beams) Very easy to fing site care of alton towers signposts.

August 2004 This has to be the site if you're heading for Alton Towers theme park as it's proximity means you've be first at opening time. Nice play ground for the children although warn them not to stray into the static area where the resident child catcher (there's always one) may frighten them. If you're in a motorhome don't go to the allocated pitches as they're fairly small and are treated to odours from the chemical toilet disposal point.

August 2004 A site with good facilities – in particular the childrens play area. Flat, green and easy to pitch. Secure entry system. Likely to be busy. Water supply was cut off for 18 hours during our August visit and despite the site being very busy clean toilets were maintained. Perhaps questionable why the site was being allowed to fill up not knowing when water would be available, but no matter. Overall well managed.

July 2004 Very nice park clean and well kept. The caravan we were in was also clean and tidy. The kids loved the childrens park and made many new friends. Just a short distance from Alton towers which is great. The park is quiet and peaceful. the only downfall was that the nearest shop was 4 miles away, although the staff do sell some essentials at the reception area. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend this park to anyone wishing to visit Alton towers.

July/August 2004 We have just returned from this CLEAN, SPACIOUS and FRIENDLY campsite. Good size pitches, basically you could pitch where you wanted on allocated grass area, very much a first come, first serve basis. Loads of space for kids to play around, aswell as the good sized play area. Only one slightly negative comment, and I know it has been said before, only one toilet / shower block and as usual it was not close to the tents, middle of the nights toilet trips were interesting. But we WILL be back to this site and we thoroughly recommend it, especially for families.
