First of all - don't be fooled, this is NOT a review by a family member, friend of the Managers/Stewards etc This is a totally unbiased view by a regular camper & her daughter.
We booked this site due to the close proximity to Alton Towers (Daughter & Friends walked from site, 45 minutes on a very hot day), as a previous reviewer has stated, the road is not really that 'walker friendly' but due to the speed of traffic flow, nose to tail, it's not really a problem.
On reading some of the earlier reviews, mixed at best, I was not expecting too much! How wrong can you be!
We arrived at the Site to be greeted by one of the Wardens who directed us to the waiting area whilst Dawn booked us in. Our first impressions, as we drove in, were of an immaculately clean entrance & well spaced pitches, (despite the site being almost full to capacity).
The Site is populated by Statics - some private and others let out by the C&CC, Pitches are let to Motorhomes, Tents, Caravans, with a choice of grass/hardstanding with/without electric. The pitches are sloping - there is no getting away from that but we had a hardstanding pitch and did not need any levelling ramps, we did notice that some others did use theirs.
There is a small 'Nature Area' which is of interest to both young and old alike. A well sheltered children's play area, again with immaculate grounds keeping, which is a credit to the Wardens. The dog walk, whilst short, is ample, with litter bins at each entrance/exit.
The toilets and showers, again, were spotlessly clean - excepting in the minor cases where shower users, between cleaning times, preferred not to make use of the 'mop & bucket' in order to mop out after personal use - This is not something to blame the wardens for, just a few inconsiderate campers!
We did not use the washing up facilities provided, but did see that they too were kept as clean as campers allowed and were also thoroughly cleaned by staff on a regular basis during our stay.
There is Motorhome Stopover & battery charging facilities too, as well as ample fresh water points evenly spread throughout the site.
The 'Pièce de résistance' though has got to go to the Chemical Disposal Point - Wow! We have camped at many sites over the years, never have we seen an Elsan/CDP with such easy access for emptying & cleaning the cassette with a soap dispenser & handwash facility too - might sound like nothing to a lot of people, but there's no bending over & removing dirty manhole covers, no 'splashback' from inadequately deep drains, no need for fumbling with hand sanitisers - this is all done at a decent 'waist' height, forgive the pun, a nice deep drain, a hose attachment to clean the cassette with no leaky attachments, a good old fashioned high flush and next to all of that a separate sink and soap dispenser for the hands! The Wardens were extremely proud of this facility and rightly so - I cannot understand why this is not the blueprint for all C&CC Sites.
The Site Shop is stocked with the usual suspects, milk, bread, eggs, ice creams etc There is also a vending machine for chocolates, crisps.
The information point is well stocked with flyers for places of interest as well as the local Takeaways, who will happily deliver to the site.
I cannot comment on the local area as I spent the whole 6 days on site, despite only booking for 5 originally ;) Despite the Site being packed, the noise level was insignificant, fellow campers followed the rules and, as far as we were concerned a fantastic few days of great weather and wonderful camping was shared by all who took advantage of the facilities offered at Alton, The Star, C&CC Site.
We would recommend this Site to all campers or those who wish to holiday let.
Well done to the staff who have managed to turn this Site around in the two short seasons they have been here.

Have just come home from a three day break at this site with my wife and youngest daughter.
The site was immaculate, with spotless toilets and showers, although, it was not full.
The staff were brilliant, friendly and extremely helpful. I forgot my ladder straps for my porch awning and was quickly loaned some by the staff.
Just a short walk down the hill, is a lovely, 16th century pub. We had a meal here on the Saturday which was very reasonably priced and out of this world for quality. Even did hand cut and cooked chips with all fresh produce cooked to order.
Really friendly staff and good beer also made the night special.
Would have no hesitation in recommending both the site and the pub. Will definitely be going again.
It is one mile from Alton towers if you want thrills and 15 mile from Stoke if you want to shop or just stay on the site and let the children play on their lovely park whilst enjoying the peace, scenery and wildlife.

There's been some great things said about this campsite and they are all true, but the incline was a problem for us and we didn't sleep well. Left early after three nights feeling exhausted. Shame because otherwise I would be back like a shot.
Great location for Alton Towers, have to travel a bit for local amenities though, Alton is close with a small post office and local store. For your supermarkets the nearest is Cheadle 6 miles away.

We stayed at the Star campsite for 3 nights, one night in a tent and two nights in a static caravan as my poor husband wasn't feeling great.
The site itself is lovely - well organised with very nice shower blocks (the automated wall heaters were much appreciated!). The kids loved the playground and the site was quiet after 11pm which is perfect.
The tent field is on a slope but it's not a problem.
As most people do, we booked this site to visit Alton Towers which is about a mile away. There is a pub down the road that does reasonable food if you don't fancy cooking yourself.
The new owners were great - really helpful and friendly. Can't fault them at all.
I'd highly recommend this site.

Our first trip in a caravan was a bit of a baptism of fire. The site is located on the edge of the Peak District and so we should perhaps have been prepared for the sloping pitches. Ours was probably worse than the average grass pitch since the slope was across the axles and there was no choice of direction to face the caravan. Fortunately the wardens were on hand to help if needed and there were plenty of blocks and bricks to get you level. There are quite a few hard standing pitches and I would probably go for one of those if staying for a single night. For a week the effort of levelling out is worth it to be on grass.
We stayed over the Jubilee weekend but despite a constant stream of arrivals the wardens were very organised and it didn't take too long to get installed.
We didn't use the toilet or shower facilities but what I saw of them suggested they were clean and plentiful.
The children's playground was excellent. However, the ball games area was a long way from the main field and the absolute prohibition on any catching or throwing type games in the camping fields may suit some but it does take a bit of the camping freedom out of camping.
The site itself is quite close to Alton Towers but not really a walk away because the roads have no pavements and are narrow and twisty. On that note I recommend those towing approach the site from the north. The route they suggest past Alton Towers isnt much fun!
Overall, like many other reviewers, I have to sum up by saying that it's a nice site but I wouldn't stay there again. Too expensive. Too many rules about playing games. Ball field too far away. Not really walking distance from any attractions.

We stayed here for Alton towers as most do.The pitches are on a slope but as we were the only tent there we had the pick of the front grass or the back field, personally the back field didn't look inviting due to the slope that seemed to be there so in the end had a good flat surface available to pitch with EHU connection. We went the week after the school holidays had finished so we had the low season costs, non members, 2 nights, 3 adults and large tent, 69 pounds.
Staff are very friendly and welcoming, helped us with black bags and asked if there was anything else they could help with as it was chucking it down with rain when packing up.
Facilities are very clean and well looked after by what appeared to be an army of staff.
All in all, if I was going back to Alton towers(maybe in a few years once the wee lad is old enough, only 6 months just now and didn't take him with us this time)I would not hesitate to go back here.

Visited on a bank holiday weekend for Alton Towers. As we had kids they allowed us to pitch directly next to the playground, which I have to say was the best playground my kids have seen for a campsite, in fact it's why we picked this site.
The entire site is kept immaculate including the showers & toilets. One grumble I do have though is the design of all the showers. The cubicles are too small, you have to hang all your clothes off a single hook inside the cubicle and as they are all so small the clothes get wet during the shower! Also as they are so small it would be difficult to take one of your small kids in there to shower. The small kids wouldn't be able to shower themselves as the push button to turn on was really high. Also what is it with these 15 second push timer buttons in showers?
The price was incredibly expensive, over £35 a night (discounted rate for member), admittedly it is a great site but no better than the one I stayed at a couple of weeks prior for £13 per night.
Overall the site is great and I would recommend it, showers are clean but annoying, you could walk to Alton Towers if abults (roads are a bit narrow for kids), and it's clean. I'd probably stay elsewhere next time because of the price.

We have just returned from this site after a weekend visiting Alton Towers. This site is an excellent base for this attraction.
The facilities were really well kept and clean and we could not have asked for anything better.
The staff were friendly and very accommodating
The rules of the park were very reasonable and ensure you have a relaxing peaceful stay with very little to disturb you.
The only thing missing was Wifi.
The site is a little on the expensive side compared to others in the area but well worth a visit.

We stayed here over the Easter Bank Holiday in order to visit Alton Towers.
The site was very easy to find and looked very good on first impressions.
The wardens were very friendly and helpful, and even helped to fault find why my electrical lead was not working (loose wire in socket). Some electrical points are quite a distance from the pitch, so a long lead will be required
We stayed on a hard standing pitch which was of adequate size for my van and awning. Good quality pegs are needed. The hard standing pitches were all level, unlike the rest of the site. We had a bit of rain over the weekend which made the grass pitches very soft and soggy, there was signs of ruts being made by some vehicles because of this.
I couldn't pick up all tv channels via my van ariel, however it only took my 5 minutes to get a sky satellite signal for my dish.
The site was kept very clean and tidy, and the toilet blocks were well looked after.
A mobile Chip van visits the site on Saturday nights, and is thoroughly recommended and reasonably priced. We also recommended the pub just down the road, which was very popular.
All in all, this is an ideal site for visiting Alton Towers or other local attractions.

This was our first time at a C&CC site since joining.
I was impressed by how well run the site was and the cleanliness of the facilities. There are adequate toilets and showers, no waiting necessary. My kids really loved the play park.
The staff were friendly and the on site shop sold basic provisions.
The site is pricey though, for 2 adults, 2 kids, dog, caravan with awning the price for 3 nights was £102. 00.
The site is located on quite a steep slope, some pitches are on a level hardstanding, most aren't. I imagine the gradients would be a problem for those with tents.
