Stayed here as its a great location for alton towers. Felt very comfortable here and felt that even though they had strict rules the staff weren't marching around enforcing them. Staff very polite and tent field a good size. Perhaps a tad expensive but would recommend. Pub 200yrds away does a great carvery and very friendly

This place really saved our necks, after driving 3.5 hrs with 3 kids to a site not far away. We discovered there had been a mix up with the booking.
Anyway one call to Star (I vaguely remembered reading about it on this website) and we reset the sat-nav to the new postcode. When we pulled into Star we were chuffed to pieces. The place is immaculate. Perfectly manicured shrubs and borders, superb play area- no dirt or broken equipment. The toilet and shower facilities are the best I have seen and we never had to queue once.
Yes they wanted to inspect our electric hook up cable and I had to smile when I started to notice all the different yellow 'rule' noticed dotted everywhere. (I think if you stay more than seven days they try to stick one to you). It occurred to me when I saw the people running this site working really hard to make the place pristine, that if they want to have rules to help keep it that way then why not?.
Anyway it didnt put us off its a wonderful place and we plan to return despite all the rules and regulations.

It was fine! the pitch is great for caravans. I am not sure what is 5 star for tents but everything was clean, There were two shower blocks and the one without the code for women was not a good shower. It really is only 30 min walk to alton towers although some parts very scary as you are not walking on any path.
There are buses, one an hour.
We liked the rule about noise as it meant it was quiet.

We have just returned from a two night stay at this park with 2 children aged 9 and 3. We booked this site for its proximity to Alton Towers but after reading some of the reviews we started to get a little worried.
The lady who checked us in was very polite and showed us where to go. We met up with my sister-in -law, her husbad and 2 chidren and pitched our tent next to theirs. The field is on a slope but it didn't cause too many problems, and I have never seen so many fire points in a camping field before which was very reassuring. The portacabin toilets in the tent field are very clean and idealy placed for trips in the night, there are other buildings you can use for showering and washing a bit further away.
Next to the tent field and dog walk is a ball field with two goals so any ball games can be played on there, I understand why they wouldn't want balls flying everywhere but we did see a member of staff stop 2 boys from playing swingball which we thought was a bit much.
The 2 things about this site that as a family we would give 5 stars to are the playground and the Parent and Child bathroom which is fantastic, you leave a £10 deposit at reception for the key (refunded when you drop the key back off), the room is spotless and fantasticaly decorated for children. Inside there is a bath with shower attachment, a toilet, sink, foldable baby change table and foldable baby seat there is also a free to use hairdryer.
We will definitely be going back to this site and would recommend it to others.
Another small thing to mention is they will freeze ice-packs for you for a small donation to the charitybox.

The site seemed very safe as the gatehouse operated a barrier system for cars and you need to have a sticker to get in.
My first piece of advice is that if you choose to book a pitch with EHU make sure you leave your lead on top of all your luggage as the site ask to see it before you enter. We read this on the website and were warned on the phone when we booked so had planned ahead but when we returned from the local shop we did get stuck behind someone who were having to unpack their entire boot to get to it!
I don't think this site is as strict as some reviews (or even the site rules themselves) suggest. The wardens were always present around the site but we were never hassled as some reviewers seemed to be. If we (being four 17-23 year olds) can stick to the rules, so can anyone!
I would recommend using the showers in the toilet block (there are 2 in the Gents, and I am informed roughly 7 or 8 in the Ladies) where the showers are on 6 minute timers and there is enough room to get changed. There are 3 showers in each of the shower blocks which seemed much smaller and the shower buttons needed pressing more regularly. We never had a problem with the cleanliness or queues for the showers.
We don't have children but there were plenty on the site and the play area situated near the shower and toilet blocks did look fantastic for children.
As mentioned in previous reviews the site is on a bit of a slope which wouldn't normally be a problem but we were limited to how we pitched our tent as we were shown to a spot between two trees.
Alton Towers is only a mile away and very easy to find. We spent a day here which was of course brilliant but meant over the weekend we actually spent very little time on the campsite itself and we didn't get time to sample the local pub food as we had packed food for all our meals.
We originally booked this site due to its close proximity to Alton Towers but in the process found a really nice campsite that (if it weren't for the 3 hour drive) we would definitely visit again and again.

I stayed here with my husband and three children in a tent, I thought it was a bit expensive at £28 per night (youngest child was free as under 5), without electric hook up but the site is in pristine condition with quite a few members of staff and the children's play area was excellent for younger children, with a variety of play equipment, and the site in a great location for Alton Towers. Our pitch was on a bit of a slope and I didn't like the portacabin toilets as they were very small, but again kept immaculate. I had to queue for a shower in the morning and when I did get in, as they are on six minute timers there was no water and I had to wait a while for the water to start flowing again. There is a big sign at the gates entrance saying that they no longer recommend the local pub and to enquire at reception which we did and were not offered any explanation or advice on where to eat so we 'risked' it anyway and were really pleased we did, the food was beautiful with 'proper' chips and they did cheap meal deals during week days. I was also concerned about the gates being locked during the stated times in case there was an emergency either on the site or at home.

This has honestly got to be the best camp site - to date - that we have ever stayed at! We have been 3 times, as it is so close to Alton Towers, immaculately clean, fab facilities, good play area for kids, safe secure entry, washing machine and tumble dryer, good hook ups, ample caravan and tent pitches, and the people who run/work there are always very friendly and happy to help!
The pub down the road does good food, and also very friendly!
Recommend visiting the the Blackbrook Zoological Park, ask at reception for directions, we pay a visit every time we stay there - fab place!
Will defo be back in the near future!

We have just returned from a long weekend at this site in a large tent (pitches are charged according to size so was a bit expensive).
The field is slightly sloping but not too much to cause any problems.
The site is immaculate, there is fantastic attention to detail, even the portacabin loos in the rally field were spotless.
This site has rules, as do most sites, the difference with this site is that they are enforced, you are given the rules as you book in (they are also listed on the website) and you have the option to leave with a full refund if you feel you can't comply with them.
Some people feel these rules are draconian but I think these are the ones who have fallen foul of the rules.
If you want a fantastic site to stay at, close to Alton Towers and are willing to play by the rules this is the place.
We have no complaints at all, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Just had a weekend at the star. A nice quiet site and very clean and tidy. The male toilet / showers are not very big and there were many people waiting to use them unlike the ladies which have ample room. 8 toilets and 6 showers.
SITE OWNERS REPLY: We actually have 13 Ladies toilets, 9 Ladies Showers, 11 Mens Showers 9 Mens Toilets, 7 Urinals. In addition to this, we also have one fully fitted Parent and Baby Room and One Fully Fitted Disabled shower room, a laundry room with a Commercial washer, commercial drier, iron and ironing board. We have a pupose built Chemical Disposal point and 7 dishwashing sinks.
The male showers have a button on the outside of the cubicle which need pressing quite often!
SITE OWNERS REPLY: The showers are on a timer set at 6 Minutes.
The site operates a strict policy, where the gates to the site are shut at 10.55 prompt, even to foot passengers! You cant even get last orders at the pub over the road incase you get locked out! I appreciate that they dont want drunk people shouting at all hours waking others but not everyones like that!
SITE OWNERS REPLY: The gate opening & closing times are displayed on our website and all the printed information we issue. On arrival we issue a printed paper which reinforces the message about gate opening and closing times. The site operates an rmergency telephone number for the times when the gates are closed.
The park is ideally located for alton towers, and it is in walking distance about 20 mins or so but there is no footpath and after a day in alton towers your feet and legs ache with all the walking and queuing so its nice to drive back. Alton towers charge £4.00 to park or £10 to park right next to the park.
SITE OWNERS REPLY: The reason we operate such a strict no-noise policy after 11pm, is if people are walking/visiting Alton Towers, or have driven a long distance to get to us, you will need to get a decent nights sleep!!!.

Myself, wife, daughter and baby visited this site last weekend. The site is immaculate and the childrens park is excellent. Now for the negatives. I realise you have to have some rules but these go way beyond that. My daughter(8) was rolling a flyaway football to an 18month old baby and was told NO ball games! I asked could she use her roller skates- NO was the answer. AS we were putting up our tent they came over with a tape measure - measuring it! They then said I would have to pay more because it was larger than I had paid. How I laughed when one had to apologise later because I had paid already for the larger size. They told us to turn out our gas lantern one evening! The shop was pathetic! Site is miles from anywhere. The family next to us got told There were too many adults sat outside there tent whilst they were chatting to another family!
