August 2003 The Star site managed to accommodate our party at short notice even though it was a Bank Holiday weekend. The owners were extemely helpful and friendly and we were delighted with the security arrangements. The site was clean, well looked after, the children's play area was excellent and showers, toilets and laundry areas could not be faulted. We had an excellent stay - good exercise walking up and down the hill to the tents but excellent view at the top! The nearby pub was great - would recommend this site to anyone. Also, a stone's throw away from Alton Towers. Only downside, no swimming pool but apart from that, absolutely brilliant.

May 2004 We have been to The Star Caravan & Camping Park maybe 10 or 11 times over this last 3 years, and I have to disagree with some of the previous comments made on this site. The staff are always polite and helpful, it is very safe and the security is second to none. The amenities are very clean & modern and best of all free. Our children love going to The Star and this year they had a lovely suprise to find that they had installed a new playground. Mark the park owner told us that they have spent thousands on it to make it so it would pass the RoSPA inspection for playgrounds - and it has. We will certainly be back again later this year as we have an annual pass for Alton Towers which is only 5 mins down the road. This is certainly the best site in the area, great value for money, and friendly efficient staff.
Well Done The Star from Mr & Mrs Queens-Bower And Family.

11th may 2004 Having stayed at the Star, we found it to be the best site in the area, close to Alton towers but quiet and very well managed. The standards and facilities are excellent and the cleanliness is second to none. This is a family site, run by a camping family and therefore they do know what campers want, so therefore if you want to run riot and generally cause havoc then stay away...it will not be tolerated...for the rest of us normal campers you couldn't wish for a better site, there is a pub across the road so if you fancy a pint it is far enough away not to bother anyone but near enough to amble across to. Mark (the owner) is pleasant and always around to answer any queries you may have and to keep an eye on everything. All in all this site is well worth a visit.

July 2002 & July 2003 This site is basic but nice and clean and I do like the security. The showers were refurbished between the two visits giving the ladies more than the previous two showers, no complaints there. The camp has an offer for anyone visiting Alton Towers that you can take up to save a bit of money.
I definately agree that they need to police the no noise after 11 rule ... I was on site in 2003 at the same time as previous review leon perry and was unfortunate to be very close to the noisy tent. The previous year we had a similar problem so I know it's not a problem. As leon says, the big dog caused a lot of noise and annoyance on the camp - we waved as they packed up and went the next day!

August 2003 Stayed here for one week in a static caravan. After reading above reviews was dreading it! Needn't have worried - friendly staff, VERY clean site and lovely caravan. Good sized play park which shuts at 9pm (they chain up the swings - a bit like the chained oak tree at Alton!!) Good idea though as it stops the older kids hanging out there in evenings. Five minutes from Alton Towers. No club house or amusement arcade to eat your money. Good, basic, family fun! The kids actually played outside using their imaginations rather than computers! They should have provided some sort of seating outside the caravan though as we had to go and buy fold-away chairs to sit outside. They did provide bedding and a few other basics (washing up liquid, sugar etc). Really friendly cleaners too!!
All in all I would highly recommend this site (and it was only about £300.00 for a 6 berth caravan for one week so good value too)

august Very clean and tidy campsite. We went there because Alton Towers is 5 mins in the car.
Big pitches but on a slope and hard to get car off when rained but heh this is England. LOL
Shower blocks and toilets clean but only 2 showers in the mens block There was a play area for the kids and plenty of taps and bins. Good for families.

August 2003 The wife, son and myself spent three lovely days at this site. It was pretty full at the time, and after reading some of the earlier posts (re noise) were a little doubtful of a good nights sleep. We needn't have worried, the site was quiet throughout the night. The toilet block was clean and well maintained, there is a good playground for the kids and a shop with limited lines - all in all it was great, and with the added bonus of a 16th Century Inn within walking distance! We will go back.

july 2003 Stayed for 2nights, and will be back next year when we return to A/Towers. If you want to shower at busy times you need to get up early. The only thing that spoilt it for me were some other people on site. Nice large field for tents. On one night some one left a big dog tied outside of the tent before they went to the pub. It was none stop barking. But we all got the last laugh when the dog got distressed due to a down pour and ripped the front of the tent:-) Also the site should police the no 'noise rule after 11.00pm' it was 1.00am till one tent shut up!! but that is no fault of the site, and i will be back. 8 outof 10, will give 10/10 if police 'no noise rule'

July 2003 (weekend) Overall an OK site, somewhat let down by the forbidding nature of arrival and the behaviour of some of its clientele. Entry is barrier controlled. Check-in itself is done in a small hut, you talk to a man through a hatch in the wall. The hatch itself is surrounded by at least 10 different rules notices, printed in that German style font which is so remeniscent of POW movies. Even my daughter commented that there seemed to be more rules than at her school.
Once in however, the sites layout and aspect is good. Showers are free, though those in the Men's main toilet block were too close to the urinals for comfort. However, there is a separate blue shower block, which was less used, which was much better. Even though the site was busy, we had no problems and little wait for the facilities.
The only letdown we really had was that on Saturday night till 1am we had to put up with drunken behaviour with loud, bad language from a group close to our tent. Luckily my daughter was by then asleep. A couple closer to the action got it worse. It's a shame that with so many rules, the site management couldn't have been more proactive about enforcement of one of the most important ones.

July 2003 A big and really clean caravan and camping site that was only about a mile from Alton Towers.
I have to admit the reception staff asked a lot of questions when we arrived, but soon realised why - when 4 or 5 lads tried book in, and were promptly refused admission to our relief ( we are a family group).
We had a lovely time and the site was very very clean and well maintained. Once we had chance to talk to the staff they were great people aned told us of some the horror stories of the past, and this was why they had such strict admission rules.
