Brilliant site and I think possibly the best we have ever stayed at, all things considered.
I went with my brother-in-law and our two sons, aged 9 & 12. We were in a tent and were placed on 'Spring Meadow' area. Although the site was busy it still didn't feel too crowded. This may be due to the extensive landscaping, which is beautifully maintained.
Staff on site were excellent. They'd clocked out registration as we arrived and already had booking details up. We were immediately shown to our pitch. Reception also gave us useful advice on where to eat in the area.
Facilities by the entrance were ok but we used the block by 'Evergreen Gardens' which were newer, larger and immaculately kept. Water pressure is low though.
Table-tennis and badminton were in a covered barn, but sides were open. Not an issue, but this is not clear from description. Swimming pool looked nice but boys thought it was a bit too small and they weren't allowed to use any balls etc. Near to where we camped was a good sized field/lawn which we played footie on, but you have to use a sponge ball - site rules. Boys didn't try playground.
Treetops bar is good - quite small but we always found a table. Make sure you try the Plassey Ale which is brewed on site.
Shop was perfectly adequate. Shame it didn't open earlier than 9.00am. There is a Co-op in Johnstown - a few minutes up the road, and a fish & chip shop. ASDA is in Wrexham, about 5 miles away.
Next to the site is a lovely craft centre. Here you will also find a coffee shop and restaurant. We only went to the coffee shop - the garden is delightful. Again opening times were not that convenient - 10.30am for coffee shop. Restaurant closed at 9.30pm. In the centre of craft centre is where all the local tourist information is - unfortunately we only discovered this when we were leaving!
We ate at golf complex which is right next door - breakfast was great. Didn't play golf but there is pitch & putt as well as a driving range. The course itself looked great.
The site is set in spectacular countryside. We did the walk around site and golf course - takes about an hour.
Site was very secure with bollards put up at 10.00pm and no vehicular access. Site is well back from B road so no road noise.
This is a really good site to explore local area from. We went to Chester (20 mins) which is a lovely town - full of medieval buildings. Don't miss the 'Rows'. Llangolen (20 mins) is a delightful town which we visited more than once - good for cafes/restaurants and chilling out. For us this was the best place to eat out in the evening as not too many suitable places in immediate vicinity off site. You can also get a canal boat ride from here.
Also go to 'Pontcysyllte Aqueduct' 4 miles up road - you can also get good food at Telford Inn by canalside. We went up Snowdon which is a 1.5 hour drive away, but countryside was spectacular. Phone first if you want to go up by train though, as it wasn't running all the way up when we went.
There was so many more places to go but we just run out of time. One thing though - don't bother with nearby Wrexham - it's a bit of a dive.

Visited for 5 nights at the end of May/start of June. Very nice site in some ways.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The pitch was a deluxe pitch with water, drainage, hook-up and tv point. Pitches here were quite generous and there was a large grass area as an 'island' separating the ring of pitches which was handy for the kids to run around on safely.
There were 2 designated dog walks from the site around the perimeter of the golf course and farmers fields- one took 1/2 hour the other about an hour and both very pleasant.
We didn't use the bar, but did eat lunch at the gold club and also the cafe on site - both very welcoming and food was nice.
When I saw a PC repair shop there, I thought it was a little odd, but my brother used it to fix my laptop and the chap there is very friendly and helpful.
We BBQ'd every night bar one, when we used the services of a local pub. They provided a free
Minibus service from the site to the pub and return, so everyone could have a drink. Pub was friendly, food was average, but certainly not unpleasant.
I have 2 moans about this site.
Firstly, you pay a premium price. But if you want to use the swimming pool on site, you have to pay extra. The pool was lovely and warm, but only big enough as a 'splashpool'. I loved it, as did my kids, but it should not cost extra.
Second moan, the showers. They were always clean and nice and hot, but there were only 3 showers in the blocks. At the price, you don't expect to queue for a shower. Owner's comment: this is incorrect - we have total 17 showers on the park :- 7 in the main Amenity building, 6 in the Shower block next to Reception, and 2 in toilet block next to the Swimming Pool, and 2 in the Swimming Pool building itself.
Nice site, & we had a lovely time thanks to the company we kept.
I might return, but not in a rush.

We spent a lovely sunny weekend at Plassey. Overall the site was great - and yes we will be returning.
The showers were lovely and clean, and when I went to the toilets and found them dirty they were cleaned immediately by the staff.
We have a six man tent and there was plenty of room for that and our car on our EHP pitch.
Because it was such a warm weekend we did not us the indoor swimming pool, but it looked very nice if not a little small.
The children’s play area looked quite new and many children on the site where enjoying it, but it was aimed more at older children. Our 3 year old could not manage to go on any of it.
I was a little disappointed with the array of shops attached to the park. Not that much there to be honest - seen much better craft shops. We did eat at bar attached and found the food good, and the price was ok.
The bar on site (which is a little tired looking) opens at 7pm, which we thought was a shame. Having a 3 year old its nice to go for 1 or 2 drinks earlier say at 5 then go back to the tent. We did go one night at opening time and although it says children welcome this is not the vibe that we got. We did, however, go at 5 the following day to the golf club bar and were made to feel welcome there.
My main gripe, which many before me have moaned about is the lack of toilets near the tent field. Caravans are very well catered for but tents feel a bit like an afterthought. It’s a good 3 min walk to the toilet which is ok, except last thing at night and first thing in the morning.
I cannot comment about the surrounding area as we did not really leave the site as it was a quick weekend visit - there is, however, a great farm shop right near the park. Great cakes, and if you where planning a BBQ you would be well catered for there.
Having said all of that we will go back if not only because its 50 minutes door to door for us.

Thought I would update my last review as a few things have changed at the Plassey for the 2011 season.
The pitches opposite the play area bordering the main access road are now hardstandings and can now be pre-booked I believe - this area tended to get a bit boggy at certain times of the year so this can only be a welcome move.
Children are now welcome at the Shippon restaurant in the evening which is great for parents who want a break from cooking - the menu at the moment isn't particularly child friendly (although very nice) but I believe this is work in progress - a great move as there wasn't much in the way of family tea time dining previously.
We had never visited the Tree tops bar until this weekend and found it to be a family friendly, pleasant & welcoming bar - OH thought the Plassey ale to be excellent.
We also went on the walk via the golf course and fishing pools which was very pleasant, its pretty hilly but varied with fields, streams and foresty areas with lovely views.
John (Brookie) came over and introduced himself to us which was very nice & nice to meet him too.
Personally we find this site to be totally value for money as this is a well managed, well maintained & well organised site with loads to do - and we will be back very soon! (Especially to their deluxe pitches which are the best!).

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Plassey.
It's quite a large park, mostly tourers. The staff are very friendly and do there best to help.
On arrival we were shown to our pitch, ours was a deluxe pitch, the warden even helped us push our caravan onto our pitch.
The facilities are ok. The shower blocks are nice but ours only had 3 showers which could be a problem when the park is full.
There is a pool, at extra cost, but that wasn't open for our visit.
We played badminton and table tennis for 50p per bat/racket and £5 deposit.
There is a golf course and pitch and putt and course fishing on site.
The bar on site, The treetop bar, is run by Pat and Barry they are very nice and friendly people and made us very welcome. They also have good knowledge of the area.
There are other facilities on site that wee didn't use so cant comment.
We will definitely return.

This is well worth a visit, stayed on deluxe pitch as I wanted to give my van a deep clean & system sterilisation flush for the season. Had water, waste & digital/ satellite tv connections so never even needed to set my dish up. Pitches immaculate, staff friendly, washrooms pristine. Ok I think it is pricey but is expected for the condition of the park £26.00 per night 2 adults, 1 child ,1 small dog & although not open yet as it is early season I think the small on site pool should be free & not £2,00 a person to use. The area is nice & only 10 mins to the supermarkets in Wrexham.

I recently stayed for 5 nights with my daughter it was a very good site, the toilet blocks were always very clean and the staff were all friendly and very helpful.
We visited Wrexham, Llangollen and went on a horse drawn barge. The Barn Craft and Retail centre were good. The swimming pool is lovely and kept very clean.
There is plenty to do including Childrens Play area, Golf, Fishing, Badminton, pool and plenty of walks. I would recommend this site to anyone and hope to go back with my daughter and family sometime.

This site is fantastic! We have just returned having spent most of the week here and we had a great time.
We stayed on their deluxe multi service pitches which are brilliant (water, elec, waste water, sky/freeview connections & a shower block closeby) - it was our first time on a multi service but will not be the last after our experience here!
These pitches are particularly great if you have young children as there are plenty of grassy areas to play & little traffic because they are located at the end of the site so only cars returning to pitches drive through and its still only a few mins walk from main facilities.
I did notice that the main field was a bit boggy in parts but the site staff were doing all they could to sort/overcome it and there had been a lot of rain in the days before our arrival.
Site staff brilliant - Ron (I think) who showed us to our pitch when my husband mentioned that I was on my own for most of the stay made a point of saying that if there was anything I needed not to hesitate to come and see them in reception which I thought was a lovely touch.
The Halloween haunted garden was just brilliant scared the socks off my son but was good fun and so much effort had gone into it. We named the wizard, carved pumpkins, made puppets and witches hats and the kids were given loads of sweets & even a toffee apple!
We were first in to the garden and it would've been nice for the tree tops bar to have been open for a quick refresher before heading back to the van but it was a good hour before it was due to open so we left it - to be fair though this was probably due to all staff manning the haunted garden.
Anyone looking for a great place to go for Halloween or I believe Bonfire night (as I was told this is a fantastic night too) would be very hard pushed to find better than here in this area. We live locally so I can see us becoming big regulars - the children cried when we came home!

I can honestly say that it would be very difficult to beat this site. Having stayed on a deluxe pitch; which incorporates your own water supply with waste and electric hook-up and tv aerial point, you have all you need really.
Some of the pitches can be slightly short for the larger twin axles; but the general set up is excellent. There is a hardstanding for the caravan with a gravel area for the awning. Next to that is a lovely grassed area for sitting out. Each pitch is fenced and private. All the pitches have excellent views of the golf course and surrounding countryside. Not all the pitches on this site are deluxe. There are several hardstanding and grass pitches which also offer electric hook-up.
There are a couple of shower blocks on the site. Which can be quite busy at times when the site is full. Nice hot powerful showers located in a log cabin. Always very clean and well looked after.
There is an adequate area for dog walking, but that said you have access to acres of surrounding countryside to walk your dog.
The facilities at this complex are amazing. There is a small indoor swimming pool, and a table tennis area for the kids. There is a shop on site for groceries selling the basics. The complex also incorporates a craft village with all manner of shops including a hairdressers and even the Plassey Brewery. Samples of which can be imbibed at the Golf Club or The Treetops Bar. There is also a restaurant on the site which is located in the old cow shippons. Very entertaining! However, a bit pricey.
There are several local pubs within easy reach. The Bucks House Hotel at Bangor on Dee even offers a free taxi service to and from their establishment, as long as you eat there. Very reasonably priced.
Wrexham is just a short drive away with its excellent shopping centre. There are also a couple of the bigger supermarkets in Wrexham ie Tesco.
If you venture off the site there is plenty to see and do in the area. Bangor on Dee has a racecourse. Erddig is an impressive country seat to visit owned by the National Trust. LLangollen and the horse drawn canal boats are not far away. The A483 opens up the shropshire / welsh border with all its entertainment.
Nothing is too much trouble for the people who run this site. If you wish to stay slightly later and it can be accommodated then you are welcome. On arrival you are shown to your pitch by a member of staff and often they will help you to manoeuvre your outfit into position. It seems like the sun always shines on The Plassey, which is why you usually have to book well in advance to secure a pitch. A very popular caravan site!

We had 4 nights at Plassey starting on a Sunday. We arrived about 11.30 and pitched the tent and had Sunday lunch in the golf club which was very nice and quite reasonable. We thought at first the site was very busy but realised there are an awful lot of seasonal pitches for caravans and by Monday morning there was hardly anyone there.
The shower block near to the tent area was really very nice and a pleasure to use. I do think that if the site is very busy there could be problems due to the number of showers. Whilst we were there however there was no problem.
We used the restaurant one night as it was my birthday. It was very good although not cheap.
We didn't use the indoor pool but it looked nice.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the site was in very nice condition.
We went into Chester using the park and ride which was very good and easy to find.
All in all a nice site.
