Just got back from plassey. Facilities superb , pool spotless as was toilet blocks and play areas.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The tent pitches were good but waterlogged they gave us some wooden boards. But all in all very good. The restaurant on site doesn't take kids under 12 yrs old. WHY !. I don't know. Go to the red lion at Marchweil, the foods top notch, and its a lovely little pub. We went to Snowdonia what a trek that is! But it was worth it. Book the train ride to the top before you go {we had to wait 4 hours for a train}. Llangollen lovely and go to the viaduct walk to Ty Mawr country park animals and play areas for the kids.

We were warned not to play footy on the site, it deffo needs a sports field. All in all a very good site. Will return again.

This is a lovely clean, well-maintained site. Shower blocks were always immaculate. I went to this site with my three children (other half had to work) encouraged by the recommendation from readers of Practical Caravan magazine - it has been voted best family site. However, when we checked in we were greeted by a sign that said 'No footballs No skateboards No bicycles.' I let the boys throw their rugby ball about in front of the tent – there were no notices banning rugby balls!

On our first evening I wanted to treat the children (and myself) to a meal at the restaurant (not part of the site but on the Plassey complex) but we were turned away as they don't serve children under 12 years old! (My youngest is 10.) So having driven for 5 hours we got back in the car to find a child-friendly restaurant.

The swimming pool is lovely but it is £2.20 for a one and a half hour swim. £8.80 for the four of us to swim!

There is no doubt that this is a lovely site - but best family campsite in the UK?

Just had a wonderful weekend with you, had a lovely welcome from Janice, was shown to our deluxe pitch by another member of staff, all staff very helpful, had evening meal at the restaurant, also Sunday lunch, very nice, worth a try, again staff most helpful. The shops on site were most interesting.

Great facilities for children, the pool looked most inviting, a bit small, only peeked in. Great walks surrounding the park, loved the field for the dog, everywhere very clean and cared for. Toilet blocks excellent the piped music was soothing.

Only criticism, the shower did not stay on long enough before you had to press again. Did not use pub on site, had drink in van, cannot comment. We will be back. Thanks

We have been going there now for about 18 years. I don't think there is anything you can fault with this place, even the 'musty' smell in the Treetops bar has gone now.

The toilets and showers, are as always lovely and clean and loads of hot water and never had to wait once.

The new swimming pool seems to be a hit although having no yougsters with us we didn't use it but had a nosey in. The shop as always, seems to sell everything you would need. The little shops are also nice to have a wander round.

My one criticism, don't like the statics that they have installed on the 'main field'

All in all, a great place and only 35/40 minutes away from home. Will we be returning, you bet!

 STAFF

We were met by 2 staff in reception both very helpful with one of them showing you to your pitch and explaining the what's, whys and wherefores along with helping unhitch your caravan and placing on the block paving.

It was also nice to meet the owner Mr Brookshaw who I'm sure went out of his way to visit us

PITCHES

What can I say.Although a long drive from Berkshire it was well worth it. We stayed on one of their Deluxe Pitches furthest away from the main buildings, the pitches are excellent all level made up by 3 sections of Block Paving / Shingle / Grass each section I guess was 30ft x 7/8ft this allowed you to put Caravan on the Block Paving the awning on the Shingle and the grass area could be used for anything.

FACILITIES

The shower block was very close and whilst only 3 showers in the men's I never had to wait bearing in mind this was Half Term for the kids I think my wife counted that they were cleaned twice if not 3 times a day so they were always spotless.

RECREATION

The swimming pool was of good size and had a number of sessions per day, there was also a badminton court 2 table tennis tables and a games room along with a play area and in the evening a lot of the kids played in the centre of the deluxe pitches as this was grassed and kept in very good condition just like the fairways of the Golf Course which is also part of the Plassey.

OTHER AMENITIES

On the same site were some small craft outlets covering a variety of items from Traditional Games / Specialist Food / Fashion etc etc + the Coffee Shop & Bar / Pub although we did'nt visit these but just walked around them one afternoon

I am unable to criticise this site but would like to suggest the following for long term improvement:

Extend Swimming Pool

Adjust Shower Timer for dispensing water

Mr Brookshaw ( John ) - you have a superb site here with everything you could wish for, we are already planning for next year and hope to see you then.Keep up the great work

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The best thing about the weekend was that we didn't have to go anywhere to find things to do! The facilities are first class, the toilets were always clean, the showers hot and the washing up area was excellent.
We didn't use the pool but the kids were more than happy on the playground, the field, exploring in the woods or doing 'crafty' things in the shops. Great site for dogs with its own exercise field and plenty of walks.
Watched the football in the golf course clubhouse whilst enjoying a pint. The boutiques, arts and crafts shops are good. Can't comment on the surrounding area as there was more than enough to occupy us on site for a weekend.

We went for October 1/2 term and left the day we could have got a toffee apple for attending the Halloween walk :-(

A great site, the staff are exceptional and do provide assistance with unhitching positioning etc. The surroundings are seriously impressive and relaxing. You will not be able to help yourself thinking about 'Living in the Big House' that is on site, the whole place is very aesthetically pleasing.Proper good looking

It was seriously cold and snowy when we stayed but still plenty to see and do on and off the site. Wrexham is well worth a visit and we ventured onto the West Coast of Wales.

There is a farm shop at the bottom of the site turn right on exiting, it is fantastic, a little pricier than Aldi but the fresh produce is top notch

Toilets and shower blocks are better than fine and free of charge to boot

I agree with the review of the Tree Tops bar and will be looking for the Foxes Crosses boozer the next time we visit, the wife won't mind driving that far I am sure:-)

The Golf club bar is OK if you need a bar as such, but we found the wine and vodka in the van quenched our thirst well enough.

We also had in tow, our 13 year old daughter and her friend, no complaints (from them at least, but the constant 'singing' from them, had us heading for a drink in the golf club bar for an hour of tranquillity and solitude).Enough said, they had a ball.

WiFi is available on most pitches probably 98%, I was in the 2% if you have a problem, you get a refund, simple, understanding and professional.

We had a meal in the restaurant on site, lovely setting food was OK, but something was missing, all meals were not of similar satisfaction. I do not wish to take anything away from this site at all, it is well worth a visit. If you go out of season the super deluxe pitches are well worth the investment.

I would not charge extra for the pool nor up the fees, I think it should be inclusive. It is not the lowest priced site you will find and in all honesty you will not spend endless hours in the pool that aside the whole experience will deliver a value to the visitor.

We have been here twice in 2008 and will undoubtedly return

Just returned from a weekend for Halloween at The Plassey. This is the first time we have stayed on the site and it was recommended to us. I have read all the previous reviews and agree with them.
The site is first class, staff are very friendly and take you to your pitch and even help you un hitch your van. The site is spotless. The shops and tea rooms are really nice.
The site did a quiz and treasure hunt for the kids on the Saturday everyone who took part got a toffee apple, and in the evening they did a spooky walk between 7pm and 8pm, I have to say that we were impressed with the efforts the owners have gone to, the walk was scary in parts and the staff were dressed up and jumped out at you!
We went into the Treetops bar which is just a quiet bar that sells Plassey ale, I was disappointed with this area and felt that its the only thing that lets the site down, it is very small and there wasn't anything going on for the children or adults, it depends what you want from a site, our children like a dance so a disco would have been nice even just for an hour!
I also agree on the comments made about charging for the pool, they should increase the price of site fees and not charge, however, we used the pool and there was only 10 of us in, and it is spotless and like getting into a warm bath so it was worth paying the £2 entrance fee.
I would also like to thank the person who said on their review to go to the Foxes Crosses pub, we went on Saturday evening and it is a fab pub, next to the river with the bridge lit up at night the views are stunning, the food was first class but expensive and they don't do a kids menu but again was worth it, just turn left out of the site to the roundabout then turn right at the roundabout and follow the rd down for a few miles, the pub is on the corner you cant miss it, it would be fab in summer sitting outside on the terrace overlooking the river!
I would certainly recommend this site, and we will definitely be going back next year, the area is lovely. It deserves the awards and is a top class touring site, I have been to hundreds of sites over the years and this is one of the best I have visited, we liked it that much we would site the van there for the season it is so nice.

Almost a nice site, but not worth the money.

Beware the 'A la carte' restaurant if you have kids: they don't like them except on Sundays: you'll have to eat elsewhere. It doesn't tell you THAT on the website!

Pool is small, and cold. The site is tight packed, and does not handle wet weather: the field rapidly becomes waterlogged, very very waterlogged.

Toilets were very clean, but very few showers for the size of the site. Nonetheless the shower rooms were so cold no-one used them, so it wasn't a problem.

With some investment this could be a nice site, but when we went it was just tight packed 'vans and a mis-match of half-hearted facilities

Stayed at this site a couple of times now. Once as a camper and once in a caravan.

Very impressive site with a great dog walk around the golf course. Staff very organised - we arrived at a busy time on a Friday night and they were operating a system in which they had people at different parts of the site, directing you to pitches. Very efficient. Much better than the C&CC sites single man on a bike, directing people to their pitch.

The site also as it's own brewery, need I say more ;)

Security guards patrol the site at night and they have a very no nonsense approach, so beware this is definitely not a party type site.
