We have just returned from a smashing Bank Holiday weekend at this site (touring caravan 2 adults, 2 older teens and a 5 yr old).

A couple of things have obviously changed since last years reviews - so I will note these first.

- Ball games are now allowed, but footballs must be of the foam variety. We didn't take ours with us due to reading the reviews here, but the shop sold them so we bought another :)

- There is no barrier on to the site. There are security bollards by reception which are lifted at 10pm until 8am.

On arrival however, do beware - the turning left into the reception courtyard is very tight (hubby nearly took the rear left hand side of the caravan off on the gatepost!)

Pitches:

We chose a pitch on the main field (the field in front of the treetops bar). The pitches along the road are hardstandings, whilst the others are all grass. Do take levellers with you as we were on a grass pitch which was sloping (only slight, but enough to send the blood rushing to your head if you slept the wrong way ;). The location of these pitches are second to none if you have children as they are very close to the toilets, play area, shop etc; and have a large grass area in the middle for ball games etc.

The premium serviced pitches are further on up the road and although undoubtedly lovely pitches (with open views of the countryside and golf course) they are further away from the toilets and there is no open area for children to play. I would say that these pitches are more suited to couples without children.

Pitches in all other areas (including the meadow) are of a reasonable size, but again, further to walk to toilets/showers/shop etc than the first field.

Facilities:

In a word - excellent. Toilets/showers etc were spotless the whole time we were there and smelled lovely and fresh - quite some achievement for a site over a Bank Holiday weekend. Fully booked with lots of children. Well done The Plassey!

Our three loved the swimming pool - it was warm and clean. Sure, it was £2.20 each for 1.5hrs, but they had a great time.

Older kids and adults also made good use of the two table tennis tables, two pool tables and badminton court (all undercover, so perfect for when the weather is not so great). There were also a couple of arcade game machines.

Treetops bar - Glass of wine + pint of Guiness = £6. Half of the bar accepts children, the other half adults only. Fairly small but overlooks the site from a height (great to people watch and admire other peoples caravans! :) It was nice to relax with a drink after setting everything up.

Shops:

The site shop is small & sells the very basics such as newspapers, bread, milk, a few tinned items, frozen pizzas & ice-cream, sweets, a few toys etc.

Other shops within the complex include a second-hand bookshop, 2 small ladieswear shops, small garden centre, toy/craft shop, ladies lingerie, ice-cream, restaurant, coffee shop, framing shop, kidswear boutique. All are small and fairly pricey - but great for a mooch around for an hour or so.

Staff:

Those that we came into contact with were all very friendly and eager to please.

Area:

Plenty to do in the surrounding area for adults and children alike (children will love Park Hall Farm near Oswestry - adults will love Llangollen with it's canal, horse-drawn narrowboats and Pontcysyllte viaduct).

The designer outlet of Cheshire Oaks is only a 30 min drive (Blue Planet Aquarium, TGI Fridays, Cinema Complex etc all in same location).

Overall:

A very enjoyable weekend at a lovely site. More expensive than our usual sites but for a weekend we were prepared to swallow the cost.

It's always a sign of a good weekend when the teenagers ask 'can we come back here later on this year?'.

We arrived in bright sunshine, parked by the security barrier and received a very warm welcome in reception. Once our reservation had been checked and the balance paid, the barrier was lifted and we were escorted to our pitch (which was very large, as are they all), offered assistance to pitch and shown the location of water taps, EHU's and ablution blocks. We were told to park alongside our tent and informed that all of the grass to the roadway constituted our pitch.

Twenty minutes after pitching a thunderstorm ensued followed by torrential rain for the next four days. The pitch remained well drained and we did not suffer any flooding or muddy areas around us. The staff were excellent and came to check that all was okay. There are also security patrols at night.

The ablution block was fantastic. Spotlessly clean, warm, constant hot water, illuminated vanity mirrors and sinks housed in private cubicles and piped in music. The utility sinks were also of a high standard.

The bins were emptied regularly, the site as a whole was pristine.

At the entrance to the Plassey there are several specialised shops, a bar, restaurants and a hair and beauty salon-which I can personally recommend.

There is a small indoor swimming pool and undercover table tennis.

The Plassey is situated in lovely countryside offering beautiful walks and the site is dog-friendly and offers a separate exercise area.

Close by are the picturesque villages of Overton and Bangor-on-Dee.

Despite the atrocious weather we had a great time and found plenty to do at this excellent site.

Having heard & read lots of good feedback about the Plassey, I had no hesitation booking it and was really looking forward to my weekend there.

Sitting here now, thinking back about the weekend, I have mixed views about the site.

Some of the good points have already been mentioned by others on here, but for me :

- A clean & well looked after site
- The staff were very helpful & friendly
- A good little shop on site
- Nice & clean swimming pool
- Plenty to do including A play park, pool tables, ping pong tables & badmington court etc

Having said that, the negatives are the things that stand out for me:

- It is expensive for what it is, you can get just as good elsewhere for half the price
- Having to pay for the swimming pool
- The showers & toilets, although clean, there were not many for the size of site
- The road through the site was busy and not ideal for young children
- With having a bar on site, there was some noise from people walking back at closing time
- There was some teenagers walking around after dark making noise and running in and out of caravans

Update 19-05-10

I just wanted to commend the quality of customer service, I have received from the Plassey. Following my initial review on UKCampsite, the owner of the Plassey telephoned my wife and the person in the other party that was with us, to discuss the feedback.

We have been assured that the Plassey does not entertain such behaviour (relating to the unruly youths that were roaming the site, which was my main gripe), it was also suggested that we may not have been in the best spot (near the road). It was mentioned that this was not ‘the norm’ at the Plassey and that we were just unlucky.

Both parties have also received a letter from the owner stating how he wishes customers to be 110% happy and will do his utmost to resolve issues swiftly and has apologised.

I am really pleased with the customer service displayed by the Plassey to resolve this matter, based on this will likely give it another try in the not too distant future.

This was our third visit at this site, previously during summer of 2008 & 2007,

Always enjoyed the site itself, nice pool, clean shower blocks, great little park for the kids, nice sheltered badminton court, basically a very well kept clean site, and friendly staff too.

On arrival we were told that the bikes could not be ridden on the site! my kids not happy with that at all.

The site has be turned into more of a touring caravan park for the seasonal pitch, and only one other tent on the site during our stay

Overall we felt a bit disappointed with the site atmosphere as on previous years we have had a lot of fun with other campers at this site.

Visited this site several times over the last 12 months and it is brilliant. The children have lots to do and the swimming pool is great for rainy days. The toilets are very clean at all times.

We did not realise the time on night and the security that walk round the site at night politely asked us to keep the noise down. We fully respect that they want to keep the site quite after 11pm and we were not offended.

It is in a great lovely location.

The staff are great and very helpful.

Plassey appears to becoming more 'Bulging Wallet Required' as time progresses.

It was our site of choice for Christmas and New Year breaks but sadly no more.

Didn't book 2010 for 2 reasons 1) The TreeTops bar was not opening for the New Years Eve party we enjoyed for years, and 2) the site owners are changing the use of as many pitches as possible from touring to static as quickly as possible.

No doubt tents will still be accommodated and some of the 'super' pitches may still remain available for tourers.

Ideally placed site but such is life !

Just got home from a wonderful weekend with good friends at this site.

Great staff on booking and arrival - very helpful and smiley. Constant cleaning of toilets and refuse areas - all kept immaculately clean. Tried one of the delux pitches and it was great - hardstanding for 'van, gravel area for awning and own electric, water and drainage on post at side - heaven!

Good weather helped as we tried on of the three recommended walks - handy for those like us with dogs. Marvellous wildlife around the area too.

Everyone is mega friendly and we finished off the weekend with Sunday lunch at The Shippon (on site restaurant) - bit pricey but well worth it.

Definitely recommended and will return.

What a wonderful site this is and I would highly recommend this to anyone. The staff are fabulous, friendly and can not do enough for you.

The toilets are immaculate. There was some work going on near the super pitches which did not cause any problems what so ever, a member of staff was keeping all the hard standings clear of stones and leaves etc.

There are small craft shops, pub, 9 hole golf course, swimming pool which me and my husband and another coulpe had to ourselves one afternoon. We will be returning next year. Well done Plassey you have an excellent site and we will be recommending you to our friends and family.

This is a smashing site, well set out, staff very helpful indeed. Not one of the cheapest sites but one of the best for the way it is set out and how clean they keep it. We found the shower blocks were too small, every morning we had to queue for the showers, not good for a site as good as this is. The pub on the site is great, staff very good drinks are ok price wise.

You have to book and pay for the pool. All in all a very very good site we will be back suggest they alter the shower blocks

 Very nice site.

Clean, well set out, very helpful staff and good facilities. Not the cheapest but for a one off weekend was ok. We needed freezer facilities and to be closer to the toilets, these are our only niggles.
Felt that it was more catered to the sited touring caravans and not tents, bit like being on a new housing estate rather than a relaxed tented holiday.
Our 7 year old found enough to do and loved the walks around the site and the swimming pool, should have taken her scooter but thought they might not be allowed as bikes weren't.
Don't know if we will visit again, bit too regimented, but close to home and maybe try another weekend next year.
