We have just arrived back from a weekend at Riverside. We wanted a weekend away before Christmas somewhere not to far from home with a bar or club. Riverside seem to fit all the requirements looking at the website and was less that 35 miles from home. I booked a gold pitch for 2 adults, 1 teenage Daughter and the dog and an awning total £42, which I was happy with. We arrived on Friday night at 5.40pm, check-in was quick and we found our pitch. The gold Hard-standing pitch was basically just a gravel patch and looked a bit untidy, there was an EHU and tap for water, which was turned off so I had to fill up in the toilet block opposite.
The showers were hot and powerful, push button type, and were clean. There are eight showers in the men's block.
There is a good dog walk and exercise area.
On Saturday we went to the club bought our drinks and sat down.I went to the bar to get a second drink and was told, very politely we would have to leave because our Daughter wasn't 18, she is 14. I asked if there was another bar we could have a drink in but it turns out the family bar shuts in October, but we could take our drinks in the pool room, which we declined. There is no mention on the website of the family bar being shut. The only things kids to do of an evening is hang around the amusements. This site is more dog friendly than family friendly in winter.
The other down side was the power on the site tripped out 7 times over the two nights, the site wasn't even half full and taking in account extra power need for heating I thought this was strange and wondered how they go on in Summer when it is full.
The Elson point was a toilet outside, which just froze up but people kept using it to empty their waste even though it didn't work and these were mainly elderly campers in motorhomes, which just turned into a real mess
We complained at reception about there not being a Family bar when we were checking out and they were very apologetic and even offered us a free night.
To end on a good point it is a good base to visit Southport.

We were in silver pitch was ok pitches were good size, toilets good, showers plenty hot water. First time here only two things I can say might need sorting was hook up boxes were falling to bits, also some of pitch numbers were missing,
Staff were very nice and helpful, always going round site cleaning, emptying bins. Cafe was cheap and of high standard, never went in to bar as was chill week and had own booze with us,
Would I go back I would say yes one of best sites been to

Visited this campsite for the long weekend in August and have to say was pretty disappointed. The site was packed, which I guess during August was to be expected, but the tent field was overflowing and the touring caravan pitches were really close together which made pitching up a little difficult.
We seemed to be surrounded by seasonal vans who really seemed to be at home as their vans had all sorts outside (ie. Trampolines, paddling pools, gnomes, plastic flowers and pots etc) which just generally looked untidy.
Like previous reviewers I too had problems with people using bad language, adults and children alike, my children kept coming in from the park telling me that another child had used choice language, called them a this, that and the other or told them to go away in no uncertain terms!
Otherwise, clubs were ok and quite reasonably priced. Kids entertainment during day was pretty poor (game of plastic bowling in club or plastic darts) which wasn't enough to keep children entertained for very long.
There is a small fair on the site but half of rides didn't seem to be open. Toilets got a little messy but have seen worse.
Southport town centre and fair are about 10 mins away and also there is a large car boot nearby every saturday morn. All in all, a disappointing site, may go back, but not in peak season.

First visit to this site, in fact first time camping for our six year old and the first time for us after an eight year break.
We experienced an horrendous Friday evening due to the noise and explicit language used by a number of'family' campers with very young children, accents from a city not far away!
This led us to say never again but in fairness the site is okay and when I complained to the site staff they pleasantly suggested that I should have called the warden. If you stay here and have a similiar problem - call the warden.
We will probably return but will use the area with EHU.

Visited the site 16-18th August in a party of 7 using a Gelert Horizon 8 berth tent. We were pitched on pitch No 23 using EHU. This was our first camping holiday and after reading reviews decided this would be best for the kids, although our preference would be somewhere more quiet after reading the reviews.
On arrival had no problems at reception. Our pitch wasn't exactly level. The site was busy and due to the EHU request we were pitched amongst tents and camper vans. The play area suited children from 3-16 year olds and was in good condition.
The toilets weren't bad, just the usual odd bits of scattered loo roll as I suppose you must expect. The arcade was well presented. The bar was pleasant and reasonably priced. Food from the cafe was also reasonable and well priced. The shop provided all the essentials including booze and fags.
It's not too far from Southport, which is were you will find the nearest supermarkets. All was well until after midnight. We had a drunken neighbour on one evening shouting her mouth off to her poor fella which lasted about 1 hour.
The cockerels were an absolute nightmare waking you from around 5am every morning and also going on and on during the day. We had bad weather on day 2 and there wasn't much to amuse the kids in the complex during this time.
All in all, it was ok, if we were to go again we would pitch on the tent area without EHU as it is further away from the cockerels and generally seemed to be more quiet.

Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, couldn't fault them at all. The shop is basic but ok for getting bread etc, not expensive either. The entertainment rooms are lively, the drinks are cheap but there is nowhere you can sit if you just fancy a quiet drink and chat. The toilets were sometimes disgusting (use your imagination!) but I don't blame the site owners, however I feel they should keep an eye on what their visitors are getting upto. The showers are basic but fairly clean with hot water. The disposal area could be updated in order. I also feel they should provide bins for recycling waste. Dont get too excited about the river, you will be disappointed.
Southport itself is lovely, however it is quite a ride there and back. If your kids are looking to go to an amusement park, try Camelot the reception have offers which make it £11 per person and it's not too far away. Would I go again? Not for myself, but my teenage kids would as they enjoyed the lively nightlife.

There was litter across the site, the toilets had toilet paper in good supply, well it was all over the floor, and some of it was used yuk, yuk, yuk. Showers has a good supply of hot water and were large but not very clean! I tended to use them as close as possible after 3.30pm when they had just been cleaned.
Gents had something nasty smeared over the main door and my husband tells me that it was not much better inside them either.
The best thing about the site was the curry and chips in the takeaway. Stayed for two nights and couldn't wait to get home, although myself and my family did laugh about it whilst we were there
Oh, if you do go, take earplugs for when you are sleeping. The noise from the clubbers was loud but absolutely nothing compared to the cockerels which had free reign around the site, crowing all day/night long.

We stayed here for 2 nights to try out our new tent the staff are welcoming and the pitches are a fair size ample room for each tent. Wardens are round on a regular basis toilet blocks are lovely and clean and the showers are lovely clean and warm also your given a key to enter.
Shop sells all the esentials and its not far to drive to local supermarkets if you need to. Bar on site again very good prices good we watched to england game in the family bar it wasn't busy and they even had children's entertainment at half time.
The cafe on site opens around 10am and closes around 9.30pm (did close at set times throughout the day but not for long) serving everything from a full cooked breakfast to fish and chips, great food at very reasonable prices.
All in all a great friendly clean site and we look forward to going again.

We have just got back from Riverside. Really big site. There are not enough toilets and showers. They are only cleaned once a day and this is not enough, they need to be cleaned morning, noon and night to be kept up to scratch.
There is a park for the children which is in constant use as the pitches are a bit near to each other so they can't play near the caravans etc.
You need a car or a bus to get to Southport as it is not within walking distance.

I just visited Riverside with my mum for two nights (Wednesday to Friday) as the Mirror offer we were using couldn't be used on bank holidays. We had never been camping before and decided to give it a try.
First impressions were good when we made our reservations, the receptionist went out of her way to help me to arrange public transport to get to the site.
The site itself was spacious, clean and well equipped.
We had to pay a £20 deposit for a key to access the toilets and showers. There were plenty of them, all quite clean and the hot water was constant. The only negative is that some parents need to teach their children better toilet habits!
The basic tent titch was large, flat and BBQs were permitted. Unfortunately, because it was a Wednesday when we arrived, we were the only people using this pitch, but at least we had the pick of the space. People staying in caravans assured us that at weekends the tent pitch is almost always at full occupancy.
The play area seemed good and there was plenty of open space.
The other facilities seemed great in black and white, but in reality were a bit of a let down.
As we arrived by public transport, we decided to rely on the site's café and shop for food / drinks. However, the café was closed for the whole time we were there and the opening times were unclear. The staff didn't have a clue when it was open either.
During the night we experienced cold, wet and windy weather, but were unable to get a hot drink from anywhere.
We had a similar experience with the family room, lounge bar and night club. The staff were totally unsure about what was going on. It turned out there was line dancing on Wednesday evening, which seemed quite fun, but a little intimidating as it as mostly locals who had clearly done it before.
Regretfully, we made the decision to leave the following day due to bad weather conditions and lack of food / drinks. This decision was by no means the result of an unpleasant experience.
To sum up, the majority of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the facilities were quite good, but not having anywhere to eat or get hot drinks from, as advertised on the website, was a real let down.
