Really disappointed. I have been camping at Riverside for at least 7yrs but never again. Why charge £20 for a key deposit when the barriers don't work and everyone as to use the same barrier to enter and exit and the toilets are unlocked at all times. The standards have gone west, with very unclean toilets and showers. We arrived and got to pitch near what we called the boating lake which was the biggest puddle ever. The ground was that bad we had to scrounge in the bins for bits of wood to put under our legs under our blocks. I came across at least 4 other massive 2 ft deep puddles. People who looked like they lived there with 50' tv in their awnings kept us awake playing music until at least 3am then yes the chickens in the boating lake started at 4am. The toilets did have young people in them both female/male drinking at midnight and swearing and making a nuisance. Enough said, my advice is avoid.

Not much to say about this site it was our first time camping and this experience was horrendous.
We were given a plot which was waterlogged, when I complained they just gave us another but by this time it was raining so went into the cafe which was small but clean and lovley food.
When we went back to the pitch this too was water logged and lots of other tents flooded near by. Again went to complain and the women in front had her tent in 6 inches of water they offered to give her another pitch but she couldn't remove her tent. No offer of help or refund.
We had booked for 3 nights and paid £78 for 4 adults and 2 children we only stayed for 1 packing up at 7am as couldn't stay any longer.
The sight was noisy and tents very close together, staff unhelpful, camp was very dirty, club was very grubby too.
Would not recommend and certainly no friendly welcome.

The camp site was very easy to find just off the dual carriage way. On arrival the staff at reception were pleasant and welcoming especially as we had booked an offer using the sun newspaper voucher and had forgotten to bring the voucher! They thankfully let us off!
After much discussion before booking our camping trip we decided to have a non electric hook up and I am so glad we did as those who chose EHU were packed in like sardines with other tents, tourers and caravans on top of them. We had the pick of a very large field with only 3 other tents occupying at the same time so had loads of space for the kids and very quiet.
Toilets were cleaned once a day in the afternoon they weren't the best I've seen but not bad the showers however don't have any where to put your dry things this making a quite traumatic experience when trying to shower yourself a 2 and 4 year old!
They have two children's parks however there is a road running rite in the middle of them and their were a lot of cars passing through kids running everywhere so we did try to avoid them also a lot of big kids taking over, two swings were broken and my son found a 9 inch nail sticking out of the ground! The little shop there was reasonably priced as for the entertainment we never went so can't comment. There are chickens on site thankfully we were far enough away not to hear them but at 5am taking my son to the toilet you could hear them so if you are in a EHU, end this I imagine is a pain!
There are bins provided but have to say they were always overflowing and smelt so avoid that area also the ground in places was reasonably flat but not much of it!
Overall our stay was ok would not really choose to go back unless we had another offer definitely would not pay £20 p/n and don't think we would stay for more than two nights.
Also you need a £20 ore on arrival for barrier pass and key for toilets not really sure what the key was for as the toilets were never locked but you get the money back on leaving. Also we never once saw a warden drive/walk around which made me a bit uncomfortable I think this is something that needs looking at as there were a lot of rowdy crowds there thankfully not in our field but close enough!

Just visited Riverside with a group of friends.
We wanted to visit Southport, so even though the reviews were mixed we took a chance because they said we could all pitch together -the other 2 families were in tents.
I cannot stress how bad this campsite is. We have camped for over 25 years in the UK and France. This is by far the worst site we have ever visited. Avoid at all costs.
The major problem was noise - mainly other campers leaving the club drunk or just partying into the night until 2 in the morning. Then the chickens on site revved up about 4am!
The facilities are poor - the space for filling aqua rolls was covered in mud. The elsan disposal unit was just a toilet - no hose to leave it clean etc. Toilet block covered in loo roll and not very clean.
Also at night when visiting the toilet block frankly we felt unsafe. My friend went to the ladies at 3am to find 5 other campers in there drunk, loud and 2 of them men.
The pitches are small and crammed together so you are almost touching the next unit.
Also the organisation is poor. We checked in, started setting up, then got a phone call asking us what time we would be arriving!
We had a good weekend because Southport is lovely. However, this campsite is atrocious and should be avoided.

Arrived on Monday 04 06 12 for the soul purpose of trying out our new tent as we only live 25 minutes away and to be honest we should of done a full circle straight back home. We previously went for a look 2 weeks earlier due to the reviews we had read about Riverside and no refund policy. On our pre visit the shower block and toilet were closed for cleaning so we had no way to deter the cleanliness at the time we arrived. The pitches seemed massive being allowed from one electric hook up to another and to be honest it look exactly what we needed for our short visit! Looks can definitely be deceiving, first of all as Monday was a bank holiday every one was crammed in like sardines and the pitch we were promised at reception was taken, so we were nowhere near our pre arranged booked spot.
The second pitch that we where offered wouldn't have housed a dog kennel as the next doors pitch was overlapping by 60% so after riding round on the free for all campsite I managed to get hold of a member of staff (scares to say the least) anyway after much deliberation we settled for pitch 101 electric hook up.
The member of staff who allocated our pitch said that the cable plugged in at the moment wasn't supposed to be there as they weren't paying for electric (hence she unplugged it) after erecting the tent and unpacking I soon realised that we had forgotten an item, so with living quite close I decided to go and retrieve it.
When I arrived back my wife told me that the caravan that was plugged into our hook up had replugged it in and the staff member had come back and unplugged it again so I thought nothing of it until 8. 00pm when they'd been drinking for hours he came across to plug in again while having the extension dangling in mid air from our hook up (a real trip hazard to say the least). I told him about staff unplugging in the first place and that all site rules say that an extension should not be run across any road or carriage way unplugged him and sent him on his way. An hour later all hell broke loose as he was with a party of around 12 people and they where in 4 vans. My wife rang the barely speaking English warden who arrived some 15 minutes later to try to resolve the situation! threatening the rowdy bunch with security.
We were on edge all night but luckily had some lovely neighbors to our right who where decent and respectful to the core!
Day 2 after visiting the excuse for a toilet block filthy sess pit with excrement all over early in the morning and washing my hands in cold water (the third world live in better conditions) and walking past the mountain pit of a rubbish disposal unit to get back to the pitch we noticed the vans across from us were packing up which cheered us up no end. Then around 11 am I was in the tent and thought I could smell a bbq going, soon to realise that it was a fire the grounds maintenance had lit. There was red-hot ashes floating across the campsite so another fellow camper approached them to be told it would go out soon on its own. I went and had words myself to only be told the same pitiful answer. The ashes by this time were coming thick and fast by now and all were very concerned that tents and awnings where going to catch fire. Eventually after a trip to reception the campers getting nowhere were forced to call the fire brigade.
To sum up our holiday in just to words it would have to be don't go!
The site is in need of a lot more staff and a full revamp. The owners need to invest millions and not be so greedy.
Dirty filthy hole and wouldn't go again for free with spending money provided!

We went as a group of 7 adults and 3 children and arrived on the Saturday morning, easy to find the place. Pitched our tents and just sat around watching as the camp site got busier and busier (it must have been full by the end), went to family bar later on and it was absolutely chocca block! The entertainment for the kids was good but we were sat right by the door with people and prams constantly shoving past us.
Saturday late afternoon it started raining and didn't stop until late Sunday night which resulted in our friends tent ending up an inch and a half under water by Sunday morning, I think this was unfortunate though as nowhere else seemed as waterlogged!
Sunday night our friends went back to the family bar, but earlier so as to get better seats and we headed over to the adults bar. The entertainment in the adult bar was 'alright', it wasn't smutty or containing innuendos which was a breathe of fresh air however it would have been nice to be able to have a conversation but it was just far too loud. We ventured back out to the tent with the intention of sitting having a beer and a chat but ended up being subjected to a huge blazing row between the couple in the tent behind ours that went on for over an hour and the language they were using at full pelt (11pm at night this is) was enough to turn the most hardy of sailors heads! Our friends who came back with their young children who then had to listen to it also (as did most of the poor kids on the site including their own that were audibly upset)said that on their way out of the bar they had witnessed a punch up between two men and another man shouting abuse at someone else, threatening to set fire to their caravan!
Monday morning we woke about 9am and started to pack up and had to listen to our rowing neighbours throwing up into a bucket constantly again for over a hour!
The toilets that had been of a reasonable standard on the Saturday were smelly, blocked and dirty by Monday and the bins on the site were massively overflowing!
The whole camp site was obviously very busy due to the extended bank holiday and the weather had an undoubted affect on the conditions however I would not recommend this camp site even given that fact as it felt like being on an episode of Jeremy Kyle! I'll just leave it ai that!

We haven`t been to this site recently but as they do not allow tents we will not be returning. Reading the recent reviews it looks like we are not missing anything. Last time we stayed we got the impression it was being run down or the staff couldn`t be bothered. They had a bonfire in the next field burning the contents of the wheelie bins which created huge clouds of smoke and the fall out was landing on the tents. The 2 clowns responsible ignored the concerns of the tent owners down wind and the reception staff didn`t stop them either. A couple of the campers called the fire brigade in the end. I agree that most of the arcade machines were not 100% and the pool was pre-book early on. Security were called one night to evict some noisy teenagers but, again, it would seem that the general state of the place has been going downhill for some time. It is a great pity because this was a good campsite and ideal for Southport and surrounding area. Another site whos parent group must feel that tents are the poorer relations, at least we don`t offer fortune telling or do your driveway

Easy to find just off dual carriageway into Southport. Check in Straight forward. Need £20 note for a key for toilet. Allocated a pitch on arrival.
Stayed on a grass electric pitch. Some pitches were uneven with a bumpy access and fairly close together as site was almost full.
Staff friendly and helpful. Toilets blocks clean until Sunday morning then due to foul campers had excrement and vomit in men's toilet block.
Saturday night was spoiled by loud music from drunken campers which was not attended to by wardens. The site needs better policing of camping field for the safety and enjoyment of those responsible people who want a good holiday without hassle.
Excellent dog walk. Cafe has nice decor and take-away food is well priced and of good standard.
Site was cleaned up well on the Monday after an extremely busy weekend.

If you are considering renting a static at this site my advice would be don't. The site is tired and dirty. The pool is closed, the children's play area is a no go area with older kids bullying any lone youngsters. No sign of any wardens to keep order, staff pleasant but very disinterested when I complained re noise at night(dogs constantly barking at all hours, 2 dogs even chased the kids, the woman who owned them laughed saying they were harmless! try telling my kids.
The staff appear to favour the static caravan owners and to hell with rentals. Despite complaining nothing was done. This site needs some tlc i.e. Better facilities for kids, wardens visibly on site and complaints to be taken seriously.

Just returned from a 3night break over the bank holiday weekend. We last visited this site 2years ago and I agree with the reviews of above. The site has gone downhill since we last visited, my reasons for this are:-
Swimming pool left to rack and ruin, it is no longer in use and just left rotting away!
Pitch maintenance was terrible, the grass was cut in places but left in others and dead grass just left everywhere, it looked a mess!
When we arrived all we could see where big groups of kids and teenagers hanging around the park, my two girls couldn't play on the park due to some of the children intent on spoiling it for them by swearing and hitting them! This site has a lot of seasonal tourers and we got the feeling that everyone knew each other and they all congregated to party! The site had no security at night driving around and I felt it needed it. They have moved the family lounge into the front venue which is much better, and the entertainment team tried so hard with the kids but they were constantly echoing to parents to control their children running around the bar area! We only went in one night as we found it too roudy with children (and we have two of our own) I found two stray dogs just roaming the site as the owners couldn't be bothered to tether them, there's signs stating that dogs should be on leads but they were ignored, I also noticed quite a few pitbulls on site, we also have a dog and we love dogs, but I'm not keen on sites that allow these type of breeds.
It is such a shame this site is like this as its so much potential to be a fantastic site, there's loads of space and the tent area is brilliant. The owners need to consider what they want, if they want a residential site then don't open it up to touring families, or, re open the leisure club, do some pitch maintenance, charge more pitch fees and include the pool in the costs, this will deter some of the families from going that we witnessed. I just hope the owners read these reviews and do something about it as its such a shame this site has gone downhill so much in such a short space of time.
