Just been to this site with my sister and her family for a couple of nights last weekend. Paid £1.90 for two families via the deal with the Mirror, ideal.
The weather was stunning so we all had a good time. The kids enjoyed the play area although there were older children playing who needed their mouth washed out with soap and water.
The toilet block was good and the showers spacious and quite clean.
Overall the site was fine, just not keen on some of the people there.
We had a great weekend but I doubt we will be going back.

Went for the Mirror Deal 95p camping but paid a bit extra for 'Gold Pitches'. Easy access £20 deposit for barrier and shower key. Well sign posted all round site.
Pitched on 263, our mates on 262. We were not impressed, yes they have EHU and tap but are gravel base and not as good as you would expect if paying full price. There's a few seasonals near this pitch.
Went in 3 separate loo blocks and they were clean even though busy never has to wait. Dog walk was nice and if the fields are empty there's lots of place to play with dogs or kids. Only used the bar once everyone seemed friendly I even sang with my mate LOL.
Dont like big commercial sites so wont return, too far from Southport to walk but the site served its purpose wouldn't have paid full price but I guess families will love it.

We are local to this site and use it often as a quick weekend getaway. As always this is a very clean site with excellent facilities. There is a very larger area for camping and we have always got on the area near the showers, toilets and play area.
The toilet block is always clean, with constant hot water and great showers (£20 deposit for keys). There are two small play areas which keep our kids happy.
There is a shop which is well stocked and reasonably priced, a launderette, cafe and amusement centre. The club house seems very nice (although I am not a big fan of the club scene).
As for pitches the field is very flat BBQ's are allowed and you can get electric hook ups if required. I think that riverside have revised their pitch prices as it cheaper than last year at £21 per night for bank holiday weekend.
If you have not been before you are about 4 miles from Southport town centre / beach and 2 miles from a couple of takeaways and a somerfield.
The only warning I would give is that there is a small river running through the site, this is quite a way from the play area but might be a concern for families with very small children.

I was a bit worried after reading some reviews on here, but was pleasantly surprised.
On arrival we paid our £20 for barrier and toilet key, and went to our pitch, no53, and thought the pitch was a bit small, but it fitted our big tent no problem, and are bigger than they look.
We booked this site using our Daily Mirror vouchers, and paid £21 instead of £55 for two nights, 4 adults 2 kids and 1 infant.
It was really windy putting up the tent but we were blessed with no rain. The site itself is very flat, with lots of hook up points, and lots of things to do. There were about 8 showers and 16 toilets in the mens shower blocks, and 4 sinks just outside, there were other toilet blocks too.
The Site had a cafe, which was clean and smart, and did a full English for about £5 but didn't open til 10am, the amusements had a couple of pool tables as well as grab machines, etc, etc, the on site club was well priced, £9 for a 4 pint jug of beer, also selling Magners etc so good value, the shop was well stocked and very cheap, selling £1 packs of bacon etc.
The family bar has a very hard working children's entertainer, who gets all the kids up dancing and participating in all sorts of party games.
We would return to this site again, but bear in mind, this is a massive site, so peak season it will be heaving, and there is some noise from the busy road which runs along side of the campsite, but you don't notice it after a bit.
Southport is only 5 miles away with an Asda as well as many other shops in its busy seaside resort, also Banks has a massive car boot sale on a saturday which is just around the corner.

We were dubious about this site due to some negative reviews and thankfully we didn't listen to any of them and decided to go (locality being the major factor in that decision).
If you are on a pitch that requires EHU then yes you may hear a cockerel, yes you may hear noisy people coming back from the club etc. because those amenities are near to those pitches and I presume if the amenities were further then people would also moan so I guess you can't win.
We didn't require EHU so where camped on the far field away from the club / shop / cafe and we had a really pleasant visit, you did need a key to the toilets / shower / barrier (20pound refundable deposit) and they are closed at staggered times during the day, but all 3 blocks are within easy walking distance, so no hardship if one was closed, they were clean and I think one block held 8 showers.
They have a dedicated dog walk which many sites don't bother with and minus our dog this weekend we walked it anyway and it was pleasant. Our daughter aged 11yrs and slightly disabled enjoyed it immensely.
We never went to the clubhouse so can't comment but the shop was good value not really overpriced at all, the office was very efficient and friendly, the cafe was excellent service and quite reasonably priced, the amusements were a boredom killer and we passed a few hours playing pool.
The bus to Southport stops right outside every half an hour which we went on the Saturday of our trip.
This site is possibly on the more expensive side to camping but its locality, and amenities available should it be bad weather do compensate the cost.
Would we go again? Its already booked

We stayed here bank holiday august weekend 2009.
The site was lovely, though it was very busy. It became somewhat overcrowded in areas as the tents were pitching within each others guy area.
The toilets and facilities were nice and clean and open all the time. The shop was small but sold the basics needed to enjoy a stay.
There was a chip shop and a bar but it wasn't for us.
The playground was wonderful
It was a pretty windy time and our tent was trashed but luckily had another with us. There is a camping shop in Southport wehere we went to buy a replacement pole, but whilst there more damage had been done and beyond repair. Owners were wonderfully helpful.
We'd stay again but not when it was so busy

Thought Riverside had fairly good reviews so decided to try it, but was a bad idea going on a busy hot weekend. Cost £24 per night for a tent, which is expensive as we usually pay that for a tent with EHU - there is no EHU for tents at all here. You also have to pay £20 deposit to get the toilet key and barrier card to get in and out so I did think the security was good.
We didn't use the cafe, but the shop sold the basics we needed.
It is a large site and you can choose wherever you want to put your tent, so we made sure we were not too far from the toilets. The site is fairly flat.
It was noisy at nightime, for the two nights there we didn't sleep at all, many dogs barking at night, and because there is a club on site people were just drinking all day at their tent then at the club in the evening, so then making a lot of noise all night shouting etc. There were a couple of cars that had their music going all day very loudly, we couldn't even hear us talking to each other! but the owners did nothing about this and this did spoil our weekend.
There is a children's park but it was packed with too many kids, you can pitch your tent next to it which I had planned to do, but was full when we got there, and I'm very glad we didn't pitch next to it as it was very noisy all day and night. But there is a large feild for kids to play on and room next to the tent too so they were happy playing on there and didn't need the park anyway.
We were on the back field so the block next to us was just toilets, if you wanted a shower you had to walk down to the other main block near the park where there is also toilets. The toilets were nice next to us,looked fairly new, they were fairly clean (ive seen worse) but they are only cleaned once every morning which on a busy weekend isnt enough, as within an hour they were messy again, and the same for the other block with the showers in, they are only cleaned once a day and within an hour they were very dirty and messy. The showers were very basic, they are like swimming pool ones where you press one button which constantly goes off so you have to keep pushing it, and is a set temperature, which was okay. There was one tiny hook behind the shower curtain to put all your stuff on which was almost useless, so make sure you take a bag to the shower that will fit in all your clothes and shoes with you, that will keep them dry.
They say its disabled friendly but it is not, most paths/roads are stones/gravel so useless for a wheelchair. There is a disabled toilet and shower in the main block near the park, but they are in the main toilets and main showers and not separate as they should be. You need someone to help you open the main door as its heavy and uphill to get into it, the disabled toilet and shower were always occupied by non-disabled people, the shower is the same as the rest but with a seat and a handrail, you cannot get your wheelchair into the cubicle with you, so you would need someone with you to take your chair in and out for you, so someone in a wheelchair would really struggle here.
For places to visit Southport is lovely and not too far away, there is loads to do there,a model railway, beach, fair, boating lake, lots of shops and places to eat so well worth a visit.
I would probably go to riverside again but at a less busy time when it would probably be quieter.
If you want a site with facilities like a shop, cafe and club then this is ideal

We only visited this site because the nearby Leisure Lakes was full over the weekend and found this one with room for two.
It has a potential to be a really good site.
Key needed for showers and toilets was a pain( though stops the many kids on the site ruining them)
Reception staff told me to leave while they nipped out somewhere, but apologised and was very polite and lots of information on offer.
Clean showers and toilets credit to them, but I have been on sites which have same levels without the keys and a couple more toilets blocks would make it better.
Uneven but large pitches, our silver pitch had a 5 inch drop onto the grass, so did our mates further up as they couldn't put us together even thou there was plenty of spaces, but could of fit another 2 cars on the pitch after the awning was up, the caravans are staggered so privacy is good. The grass was slightly overgrown, but with the weather being dismal this season it was excusable.
The warden, all thou seen doing his rounds, failed to stop the horde of 4x4's and transits (Transit's are supposed to be barred from the site) parking where they liked near the gold pitches which with it being a one way route round, found it very difficult to move the car+van round, and he didn't do much when kids was throwing gravel from the road at the caravan's at 7am! We noticed people letting friends cars in, one person let 3 cars in one by one through the security barriers, dispite a large car park!
A onsite shop/cafe/chippy is always good but seemed to open when they felt like rather than the advertised opening times but well stocked and nice chips.
The cock's and chickens running round the place was a nuisance with their 6am wake up calls and waiting for them to move off the gravel roads but had a charm to it as well.
Excellent entertaiment for the kids and adults in the evening didn't spend much time there thou as we got talking to some people behind our vans!
There was no noise after 11ish (under 18 have a 11pm curfew)
Open site, so wind on the nicest day was a hassle, as someone else mentions, storm kits needed, could do with making some improvements, wind breaks etc!
Best of all 4 miles from southport beach, lovely view at sun down if the weather is right!
Planning on stopping there for the Airshow next month, so overall not to bad!
Silver pitch £20 a night with electric - 2000w limits - £20 deposit for keys.

We normally stay in another camp site in Southport but find it too noisy at night so was a bit dubious about this one as it has a club. BUT at night time you wouldn't know it. It was very quiet and peaceful.
You have to pay £20 deposit for key to toilets/showers, but you get it back when you leave, although the toilets near the tent field were never locked only the showers.
It has 2 play areas for kids and having 2 young children they absolutely loved it. Didnt see them for most of the day.
The toilets were ok. Ran out of toilet roll pretty fast so best take your own just in case.
Showers seemed ok too, although we only stayed one night so didn't need them.
On arrival on Saturday there were donkeys there for kids to have rides on which is a wonderful idea.
The shop is really good too - and cheap.
Dog walk is the best I have seen so far. It runs round the back of the site and is excellent. Most people clean up after them.
We have booked to go back again this weekend as we were very impressed. Would recommend this site 100%.

We like this site and have been numerous times over several years.
Toilets clean with plenty of hot water.
The children's play area is excellent and been extended this year.
They have now got rid of the swimming pool and created an indoor amusement arcade and a cafe/restaurant. Everything from chips, breakfasts or Sunday lunch.
There is a bar and children's entertainer as well as an adults bar. If you do not use the bar etc, you could not hear it on the field.
There is a small shop selling the essentials.
Do not forget your £20 note as a deposit for the site entry card and toilet key. For some silly reason they do not accept cards for payment. They must have the facility as you book and pay by card over the phone.
