Just come back from a long weekend at Riverside, which was our second visit having stayed in 2010. Its only about an hour from where we live but enjoyed our stay last year and love to visit Southport. The tent area is quite large and you can pitch where you like (if non EHU), and although our kids like the play area we pitch towards the back which is near enough to see them but far enough to avoid the noise at busy times.
Being bank holiday weekend it got very busy and a bit cramped. The people in the tent next to us had 2 tents and 3 cars and parked right next to our tent and behind our car blocking us in. As the majority of people pitch round the edge of the field there was no way for us to get off so had to ask them to move their car, so didn't really get off to a good start with our neighbours, who never spoke to us at all whilst we were there.
The park is ideal for kids and plenty of space for cycling on the site. We were on the non EHU field but there were lots of water points, toilets near by and only a short walk to the shower block, although this got busy at times as there weren't many and we had to queue so try and avoid busy times. The toilet blocks and shower block were heated (and showers were free and hot), and the toilets were closed for cleaning between 10 and 11. Remember to take your own toilet roll as there was never any left after about 6 ish until they were cleaned and refilled the folloiwng morning
There are washing up facilities, but again not many for the size of the site so queues soon formed. There is a £20 returnable deposit required for the swipe card to allow you into the site to prevent unauthorised visitors, although this didn't hep to vet the standard of people staying on the site!
The little shop has recently moved into the arcade and opens from 8.30am although it closes quite early. It has the basics but we brought most things with us so didn't need to use it. There is a Tesco and Asda within a ten minute drive which may be better if you need more choice.
There is a bar on site but we didn't visit it or try the kids entertainment so can not comment, but there was a weekly plan of events throughout the day and evening for which we were given an information leaflet on when we arrived. BBQ's are permitted and you can have camp fires as long as they are off the ground, so a lovely smell drifting across the site in the early evening. The noise seemed to die down about ten ish, but there were still a few families that ignored the no noise rule and stayed very loud into the early hours. As the beer flowed, the noise got louder and the language wasn't something we would have liked our children to hear, but saying that the language of some of the children on the site wasn't much better.
There are lots of things to see and do in Southport, and we have visited the Botanical gardens a few times where there are a few play areas for kids and tea rooms. We also cycled to leisure lakes which is only about a mile from the camp site but worth a visit if you have kids or like to watch water sports or fishing.
Our recent visit to Riverside was not as enjoyable as the first due to the noise and language of other campers, but saying that I would return again as it has the potential to be a good family site, but I would probably come when it isnt as busy

Just stayed for the weekend.
Ideally pitched next to the playground for the children and was a good playground with all facilities.
Shower block and toilets nice, clean and warm. Site was not too busy.
Entertainment was ok for the kids, but nothing of excitement but did the job.
Shop has only just opened so was slightly short of certain items but I'm sure this will improve throughout the season.
We only had one problem, boys were playing football against a wall that had a massive sign on saying 'no ball games'. But to be fair they did stop at 10pm which was fine as we weren't trying to sleep.
Staff were helpful in reception but I think maybe a bit more presence at night would be helpful.
Would I stay again - yes I would, but I can imagine it does get a bit crammed.

I will never stay here again as long as I live.
This site is pretty hard to describe, but it is like an 18-30 s holiday resort with caravans!
The place is tacky, loud and dirty!
The people staying here never sleep, so for people with young children, like ourselves, it was just impossible.
The bins were never emptied, the pitches were so small and a lot were residential so when we arrived several cars had to be moved from our pitch so we could get in it!

Just returned from a weekend at this site. If you like big sites then you'll enjoy this. If your looking for a quiet weekend stay well clear. Staff are very friendly, however site is not the best kept, saying that toilets and showers are clean and warm. Wife did convince me to go to bar for the children's entertainment on the Saturday evening and kids had a ball to be honest.
Seemed to be a lot of residential type tourers.
Would not return as too big and very noisy at night and staff were not around to quiet people down.

Don,t really like giving negative reviews, but, this site could be good but its the overall aspect to look at.
Firstly, never get back to us - about anything, e-mailed them regarding bar opening - no reply. Texted the 'warden' when power went off at 9pm, it did say on the leaflet, no replies after 8 pm but thought he might have been round in morning, it did come on a while later, whether this was the result of my text - I,ll never know.
Asked- in our unanswered e-mail to be sited near the toilets, which we were, but they were closed !
We did not ask however to be sited next to a caravan, pitch 237 by the way, with old carpets strewn across the back of the pitch, the front looks like he'd decided to concrete it !
The amusement arcade machines, well those that were working, were dated and even the change machines, two out of three not working.
To be fair all the staff were pleasant enough, the beer prices average and the little shop was ok.
The family room was the usual cheesy stuff, but the public also allowed in from outlying areas. The language from some of the punters was a bit 'ripe ' to say the least, and that's just the women !
All the above was relayed to the very nice girl in reception, who probably wished she'd never said 'Everything OK ? '

We were not impressed with the condition of the touring caravan pitches at Easter 2011, we found grass uncut for many weeks, pitches close together and the road ran only a few feet in front of the caravan. Children appeared to be enjoying the play area but the road through the camp runs along side it ! Main toilet block was dirty, smaller blocks were better. The upside the shop was well stocked cafe sold reasonably priced food though only small for the size of the camp bar and evening entertainment was good.

School half term and a chance to restart the caravanning season, if there is one. Not too far from home and very reasonably priced for a family of four. £33.54 for 4 nights. Hard standing was gravel, so no problem with pegs for the porch awning. Flat, and easy to move around on the gravelly roads. Good area for part-time bikers in and outside the site.
Water was individual to each caravan plot. Toilets etc were plentiful and heated, although showers were restricted to the central block, which is normal out of season. Good safe play area for children. No noise problem. The busy main road was a good distance away from the caravans. Southport is a tourist area, so plenty to amuse most people.
We visited the Botanic Gardens 4 miles away, in Churchtown. Tv reception is excellent. We were impressed, but I am not so sure what it would be like if the site was full. It is a big site. We shall return

Just returned from our first time on here, not many campers on so was quiet. Had some rain which turned the grassy area very slippy and quite muddy. Small roads in between caravan so could be awkward when site is full to move your caravan. Toilets nice and clean and heated, just been repainted. 2 parks for the kids to play, pub/club, small arcade and cafe/takeaway. Cafe shuts early and so does the shop would be better if opened late. A nice site with a river running along side. £21.50 per night so reasonably priced. Will visit again hopefully in good weather. Would recommend paying the bit extra for hard standing pitch as the grass did cause us problems

We booked onto this site at short notice over the feb half term break, the staff were very nice and helpful.
The plots were well marked out and a good size.
The shower rooms and toilets were nice and warm with good sized cubicles and lots of hot water.
There is a good play area for the kids and they loved the entertainment.
All set in pleasant grounds this was a nice place to stay and I'm sure we will return.

Stayed here in January, for those who thought they miss read, yes January. Not that cold as had electric heater in tent. Brilliant time fur a cheap night camping, £1 pint, free pool, free snooker. One of the best camping trips I've ever had. No one else camping so had whole field to ourselves. The showers were hot. The kids club was closed in January. Only thing I could complain about are the chickens waking you up at all hours in the morning
