June 2005 Excellent site, all the facilities are clean and tidy. Staff were only too willing to help. Close to Southport and all other aminities. Easy to get to and access to pitches are no problem.
Reception is your first port of call and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

July 2005 This site is not aimed at people in tents. The pitches are uneven and full of dog poo, not ideal. There is a new shower block which is nice but the showers are energy efficient so you have to keep pushing a button to keep the water going nightmare trying to wash my hair and no plug points so you cant dry you hair. Apparently EU regulations mean no hairdyers in the shower block but you can plug a shaver in the mens block. If you are a seasoned camper like me you have a travel hairdryer whch can plug into a shaver point.
No actual drinking water point only water from the sinks. Great play park for the kids but the onsite club is a nite club no great if all you want is a quiet drink. There is an onsite shop and chippy both fairly expensive. If you want something to eat cook it yourself or if its raining you have to go elsewhere. The overall site was grubby and not well kept at all. Great site if you are a tourer but i I wouldnt advise campers to go. I definitely wont go again

April 2005 Tents are seperate from caravans here and the fields for the tents are undrained and very boggy. The only toilet block at this end of the site is unuseable as it is wrecked. There are no water points so you have to fetch water from the caravan section where there is a point for each van. The caravaners all walked their dogs on the camping fields too and although a bin was provided I did not see one dog owner poop scoop. In the toilet block there are no baby change facilities but the toilets and showers are warm and clean. The onsite club will not let people in in trainers, this means tenters have no chance as they need trainers or even wellies on this boggy site. On the whole it may be a great site for caravaners but it is definately not tenter or children friendly.

April 2005 Upon arrival, we were eventually let through the barrier and directed to where to pitch. We were part of a rally but were not allowed to pitch with the rest of our group who were in caravans, i.e. the tent people were isolated on not so great ground.
The weather was awful so that didn't help. The night club (which is what it is) was thumping away till the early hours. Some people in tents could even recognise the records that were being played!!!
The toilets were very well kept, plenty of them and very warm. The showers were also plentiful and clean.
As we arrived late, we used the onsite chip shop. We found this to be very expensive and felt ripped off. An extremely tiny tray of curry & chips cost £1.50, a fish £2.70 and they don't sell anything but fish, chips, sausage & pies!!
The shop didn't open till 9.00am so if you needed milk for breakfast, you're out of luck.
We tried to go into the club on the Saturday around 12.00midday with our children only to be scorned and the woman behind the bar shouted NO CHILDREN. The family room didn't open of a daytime either so if like us you were cold, there is no choice but to go off site to somewhere else!!
There was a little play area for the children which was adequate. The miniature golf course was very run down and appeared to be out of use.
The whole site appeared grubby and not well kept at all. The roads in between the pitches were uneven and quite muddy in places and the pitches were very waterlogged after the rain.
The site did not have a good feel to it, and they certainly did not appear to be over enthused about people in tents. The site has more rules than the army and the barrier & toilet key system was an absolute pain.

September 2004 We have just arrived back from Riverside Holiday Park, where we have had a long weekend. The site is a must for anyone visiting this area all the problems previously mention have been rectified as the shower and toilet blocks we very clean and well serviced. On site is a well stocked shop and a club for all the family. there is also a takeaway selling pizzas, chips and some itallian food at reasonable prices. The childrens play area is quite good and is safe for the kids. There is also a small river where you can fish or feed the wildlife. The prices of pitches range from £10-£19 which is reasonable as they dont charge per person or for dogs. Overall a good site with freindly staff we will be back soon. The only downside to the weekend was the weather, but it didnt stop us having fun.

August 2004 Went here over the August bank holiday with the kids in a tent, and as you may remember, it was more than a little bit windy. The site itself was fine, but the attitude of some of the other campers (loud music and swearing until after 2 in the morning) spoilt things a bit. The only problem we saw with the new toilet block was again down to the lack of consideration from people going back to their tents / caravans after leaving the club, with blood in the ladies and loo roll spread all over in both, beer tins and dirty clothes. The site staff were very friendly (including the toilet block cleaner) and the ammenities on and around were okay, and the family room was great for kids under 10 - 11. Had a good time, and would probably visit again sometime in the future.

May 2004 This is a very nice site, the grounds are well maintained and the site facilities are good. There is a river running through the site as the name suggests. There are nice playgrounds for the kids and most of the electric pitches have their own fresh and waste water points so no barrel rolling required if you have a hose! On the negative side there is a NEW toilet block which only looked a few months old. The problem was that the block was very poorly cleaned, most of the time had no toilet paper and the shower cubicles had no shower curtain so no matter how you try some of your clothes get wet. This is such a shame as the site is generally very nice. You'd have thought having spent all that money on new facilities they would get a decent cleaner and some new shower curtains! The comments previously about the staff being impolite we did not experience apart from the toilet cleaner who didn't appear too happy about us entering when he was in there.

28/03/03 hi there stopped here for the weekend
site ok but in early season they only open the toilet blocks nearest to the site entrance which were approx 300yds from the tent section and left alot to be desired with regards to cleanliness. also the shower blocks are also down near the entrance and if you are as lucky as me the key you get wont open the ladies. Please be aware that the clubhouse is actually a night club and you will hear some noise untill 2:00am. kids are only allowed in the clubhouse on a sat night up to 10:30pm
Please be aware that you can arrive late but thay dont seem to appreciate it.
Good points They do have a nice well stocked shop on site. The fish shop opens at all mealtimes, this includes breakfast serving bacon etc The bus into southport actually comes into the site entrance and the fares are very reasonable.
Unfortunatly we will not be visiting this site again. it has good open spaces but i do like to be made welcome and not feel like a burden
