This site is beautiful! We had originally thought it a little on the more expensive side when we were planning our trip to Beddgelert and had decided to book at a campsite nearby. Being more than a little disappointed on arrival at the other site, we got our money refunded and headed to Cae Du.
Thankfully they could fit us and our friends in for a 4 night stay. We were told on arrival that midges could be a problem at this time of year and that there is a no music policy and no noise after 10pm.
This was definitely not a problem for us.
We were camping with our friends who have a trailer tent. They were a little restricted as to the areas they could pitch because some of the camping fields near to the river are edged by a small wooden fence and not accessible to cars (or trailer tents). However, there are plenty of other areas that we could use and we found a lovely spot in Hebog View.
The scenery surrounding the site is breathtaking. There are panoramic views of the welsh mountains.
The facilities on site were immaculate. The main shower and toilet block was clean and tidy at all times. The toilet block near to where we camped is a little more basic but was still kept clean. The showers at this end of the site were also very clean and warm. We used both shower blocks and never had to wait to use either of them.
The dishwashing areas are all under cover and they have plenty of hot water at all times of the day.
We have been camping for 7 years now and these facilities have to be the cleanest I have come across on any of the campsites we have stayed.
The site staff are very friendly and helpful.
There is a walk from the site into Beddgelert which is away from the main road and only takes 10-15 minutes. It's a lovely walk alongside the river.
Beddgelert is a pretty little village with a few gift shops, cafe's and pubs. There is one small shop but I have to agree with a previous review in saying it is quite expensive.
Our children loved the site and found plenty to do. There is no playground but they did find a couple of rope swings which kept them amused.
The only downside to this site is that children 14 and over are classed as adults. This made it a little more pricey for us and it is the most we have ever paid when camping.
This will not stop us from returning to Cae Du as it is by far our favouite site!

Returned today from a 5 night stay camping in Cae Du. We requested a large pitch with electric hook-up and we were not disappointed, we were allocated a huge pitch near to the river. As other reviewers have stated if you pitch near the river be prepared with plenty of midge repellent but this is the case with all sites in the area. The toilet/shower blocks were clean and didn't seem too busy. The main block has a convenient freezer, washer & dryers, payphone and local information leaflets.
We found out that throughout the whole area we rarely received an O2 mobile signal, and were told by locals that Orange mobiles are the only ones that seem to have good coverage.
The campsite is only a short, pleasant walk into the town of Beddgelert (torches needed at night). There is a local convenience store (expensive), we tried a superb fish & chip takeaway where you can also eat in if required and also various other eateries of varying standard, however opening times seem limited and most stop serving about 8-9pm. At night the camp site is extremely quiet (and dark - great for stargazers). The staff on site are extremely friendly and assisted with the packing of our tent as the winds were quite strong when we departed. We would strongly recommend the site and will definitely return.

Visited some friends already staying on the site for the weekend, it cost £15 for 2 adults & a dog. We were staying in the awning of our friends caravan but still had to pay £15! Dogs are welcome but have to be on a lead at all times. You pay a £10 deposit (refundable) for a swipe card to let you in & out of the campsite.
Very nice site, toilets are better/more modern near the reception area but there are porta cabins dotted around which are clean & have shower facilities. Electric hook ups & plenty of drinking water. Strict on noise, there has to be silence after 10pm and not even low music is allowed. Ideal for families with young children.
Brill location for walking into Beddgelert itself & nice walk up to the copper mine.
We went out the next day across the hill at the back of the campsite, were out for 4 hours unaware that we had to vacate the campsite at lunchtime. When we went to return the swipe card they advised that because we hadn't left at 12 or parked on the reception car park (which they also charge for) they would only give us half back. We didn't argue because we had a great day, but would have been helpful to have been told when we arrived.
Although the site was lovely and we couldn't have asked for better weather, it was very expensive for one night.

What a lovely site - this is our second visit and we will be back next year. First Class site with good clean facilities. All the staff and wardens are helpful and friendly. Fantastic views of the mountains with total peace and tranquillity - you could spend all your stay just relaxing on site loking at the scenery, with the background sounds of sheep and the river. If you are interested in astronomy it is fantastic for star gazing as there is no light pollution. A torch is essential when going to the toilets at night as it is so dark and so still.
There is no shop on site and only a small shop in the village which is very expensive so you need to ensure that you have all you need with you. There is a big Tesco is Porthmadog which is only 15/20mins drive.
We didn't struggle with showers - there was no queues at all but we did time it later in the morning as it did seem to be quite busy first thing.
This is definitely one of our favourite sites !

We booked this for the Whit holiday having struggled to find site with space which could provide an EHU. The staff were very pleasant on the phone and on arrival. We were shown to our designated and marked pitch with a small fence to demark the boundary - clearly there was going to be no overcrowding here! There are two facilities blocks on the site; one is quite new, but unsure why it is closed overnight (you'd have to wander a quarter mile off the road to use the facilities if you weren't on the site), the other facilities were basic and clean, but sharing with spiders and cobwebs wasn't to everyone's taste. All this however is acceptable when you sit on your chair looking at the view, which is exceptional. Sunrise over the Snowdon range and sunset over Moel Hebog - what more can we say!
There are three pubs in the village, and it has to be said none of them are particularly inviting - if you like your real ale, then look elsewhere as they are all owned by Robinsons and don't offer any alternative. Beddgelert needs a good, clean, family pub with a good range of local ales.
The site is ideally placed for walking in Snowdonia and we are likely to return before the end of the summer break. Recommended.

Location wise you can not beat it, easy walk into Beddgelert even with pushchair.
Good size tents with lots of room to pitch.
Main toilet block is clean but really could benefit from more showers (only 4 per block Male/female on site)
Only down side was we packed up early and asked if ok to park car up or leave by pitch car park was informed by lady in reception that there would a parking fee, it was not even 10.30 and you don't have to vacate until 12.00

The location is fantastic and the no music policy ideal for a peaceful stay.
The main toilet block has 2 male showers, 2 urinals and 2 indoor toilets, clean and good. Wife wasn't on this trip so don't know what ladies had ! There were 3 or 4 outside unisex toilets at this block available 24/7 as indoors was locked at 10pm so no showers after that. There were 2 male temporary portacabin showers elsewhere on site again locked at 10pm. Another 4 unisex toilets at this location also - basic and rustic !
We were a party of male walkers and after much discussion despite all the sites positive points it was let down by insufficient toilets/showers for the number of units on site. This was evidenced by having to queue for the toilet at 22:50 on Friday night with all the new arrivals that had landed whilst we were out during the day ! We also had to regularly queue for the showers. After a long days walking you want a nice hot shower without having to queue.
Lockdown at 10pm was too early, we too had to race back having been down to the village for our evening meal (Lyn's Cafe - excellent by the way).
The site had card controlled barriers which we thought was a good security measure.
If significantly more toilet/shower facilities were provided or alternatively the noo pitches reduced my rating would be significantly higher.

Just back from spending 2 nights here, and it was lovely. The welsh mountains surround the site, and views are wonderful. The site is very well kept, with immaculate shower and toilet facilities, good washing up area, laundry room for those needing it, and a collection of objects that I assume were left by previous campers, that could be purchased for whatever you wanted to leave in the honesty box.
The showers were hot, and the cubicle huge, so there was plenty of room to move around and keep clothes/shoes dry while showering - the only downside is the push button for the water goes off quite quickly, but that's a minor niggle really.
The big issue with our stay was the midges - we pitched near the river, and were plagued all the time. We rapidly purchased the repellent sold at reception - Avon skin so soft! which seemed to work to an extent, but there were clouds of midges all the time, and it became really unpleasant. I think had we intended on staying for longer, we would have moved our tent away from the river a bit. But - this is obviously not under the control of the site owners, and they did warn us when we booked in that the midges may be problematic, so we chose a riverside spot anyway, so it's our own fault!
We would definitely return if we go back to Wales.

We have just returned from a week staying at this site. This was the first site I have stayed in where I didn't have to queue for a shower, which was good. The site was very quiet & the facilities were kept clean & tidy. There was a great 'lost property' collection, which you could take/borrow from & leave a donation for charity. There was also a chest freezer to use free of charge.
The only downsides, were that there was no on site shop for milk etc, & as mentioned previously the car barriers are closed at 10pm, which meant if you went out for the evening, you had to rush back (we were out & suddenly remembered one night.), The shower blocks were also closed between 10pm & 7am
Apart from that, we had a great week, finding lots of outdoor activities nearby to keep our 3 teenagers (& us) busy. It's a beautiful area to visit & I would recommend to friends.

This was our first tent trip as a family. We had planned to go to Shell Island near Harlech as I used to go there as a child but the reviews on this sight were not good. I found Cae Du through this site. We had a break down on the way and were told by the site that there was no access to the site for new arrivals after 10pm. We could camp outside but we decided on a B&B for the night. This was the only bad point but having now stayed there you understand the mentality.
The site is well maintained. Access is controlled by a barrier that you get a swipe card for. The facilities are clean and sufficient. Noise after 10pm is quickly dealt with. Cannot say much more other than the wife was very happy and wanted to go camping again. Beddgelert was an easy stroll along the river. Excellent family site. Will use again.
