Just got back from a 3 night stay and we only wish we could have stayed longer! The weather was gorgeous which was an added bonus.
The pitch was £18. 50 2 people tent and EHU very good value for money. The campsite was perfectly positioned with amazing views of the mountains.
We have not been to snowdonia before and the owner recommended to climb snowdon that we parked at the end of the Pyg trail on the way to Lanberis. The car park was £10 and you need to get there early to get a space but it was the ideal start to the walk up snowdon. Took 2. 5 hours taking our time and then longer back down along the miners track - very pretty walking by the lakes.
Back to the site, the toilets are very clean and tidy and a new block was just being completed. The site is extremely quiet with a strict 'no noise' policy after 10pm.
The owners are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A 15 min walk along the river brings you into the pretty village of Beddgelert with pubs, shops etc. Porthmadog is a short drive away and well worth a trip if you fancy the beach for a change from walking.
Overall I would definitely recommend this site and will be back!

We’ve just returned from staying at this campsite for the Jubilee weekend 2012. We stayed for 4 nights and were not impressed right from the start.
We arrived Friday evening and were greeted by a friendly welcome at reception and clarified that 2 other people would be joining us the following evening for the remainder of the stay. This was confirmed and we were shown to our pitch. We were immediately disappointed. Our pitch was sloping quite severely with large potholes, grass that was in need of a good cut and I’ve never seen so many midges in my life. The campsite was swarmed with them and they bit lots!
Family joined us the flowing evening but were unable to arrive until a couple of minutes before 10pm. They reported to reception but were unable to drive down to our pitch as they had missed the very strict 10pm gate closing time at the site. There was a dispute between site warden and the owner as to whether they should be allowed to drive down to the pitch as it was literally a couple of minutes past, but the decision was final.
While this may be a positive to some we found it mildly irritating as we had confirmed with them when booking that they would be arriving late and we assumed they may have made an allowance as they had travelled 6 hours and had a very loaded car etc. We went and retrieved their kit from their car with them and they got settled into the tent, however we were soon told to be quiet inside out tent as it had gone 10pm and other campers were trying to sleep even though clearly other campers could be heard and many lights were on in other tents!
The weather overnight was typical of wet, rainy Wales but as we visit often we are not put off by this and have all the kit etc. It poured with rain the next day too but we disappeared off out walking for the day. When we returned we found more horrors! The new toilet block was not working! Site staff had to fill the toilets up for you before you could flush them!
This is not what you expect from quite an expensive site that boasted new facilities when we checked in! There were only 4 toilets down that end of the site also and they were outside! A trip to the toilet this evening was just horrendous – pouring rain, waiting for someone to fill your toilet before you could flush it and adding to it were the swarm of midges stuck all around the toilets themselves, the sinks and lights while you were trying to wash your hands afterwards! Not a great experience!
This site also has very dodgy electric hook – up as it was constantly flicking on and off all weekend. At one point we even got the blame and were asked to stop running the gadgets that we had – these were a coolbox and a phone charger! They may have given this message to everyone on the site but it seemed to be only us the warden came to speak to and we were made to feel it was our fault. We felt like naughty children not 30 year old adults!
The final straw for us was that part way through our stay we were informed that we hadn’t paid fully for our stay and owed the campsite a further £32. 50. We paid in full over the phone when booking a week earlier. It was clear that whoever it was that took our booking appeared to have mucked it up and charged us incorrectly. We will not return to this site again.
Positives
• The wardens were extremely polite, friendly and very helpful and even when they told us off for being noisy it was done in a polite way and were obviously just doing as they were told.
• Security at the sight was excellent.
• Showers were very clean and were the best campsite showers we have used (and we’ve used a few!)
• Scenery and site location is fantastic!

I stayed here for a week. It's not the cheapest at £16. 50 for two people and a tent but the location is very good for walking in Snowdonia.
The pitches are level and some shelter is provided by trees and low walls. Security is provided by an entrance and exit barrier (£10 card returnable).
The gates are shut between 10pm and 7am which makes for peaceful nights, except for the sheep. Unfortunately the showers are shut overnight too.
There is the usual campsite shop with inflated prices and a ban on music and radios (didn't stop me singing in the showers though!)
It is only a 10 minute walk into town where there is a mini market and several pubs. Portmadog Tescos is a 15 min drive. The steam train, station in town, takes you to Portmadog and Caernarfon at a price.
I liked the Prince Llewellyn for food, beer and atmosphere best. Other pubs and hotels are available too.
I walked from the site to Snowdon, Moel Hebog and Cnicht and it was a short drive up to the Glyders.
A new toilet block is under construction. There were only two showers (those frustrating push button 'free' type)in the mens so I think it would get busy in high season.
Overall a very good, quiet location but over priced for the facilities available.

We were recommended this site by the tourist board office in Porthmadog and what a gem it is !Fantastic setting with views up and down the valley. Lovely people who run / own the site couldn't do enough for you. The site is a large area so motorhomes, caravans & tents are spread out giving plenty of room and privacy for everyone. Reception doubles as a basic shop and unlike many sites not too over the top with prices. Very good showers and toilets along with a clean laundry room.
Ideal as a base for the whole Snowdon area, five minute walk into Beddgelet itself. Check out Lyn's Cafe in the village, very good selection of food, mostly home cooked and reasonable. As the site description suggests they pride themselves in being a relaxing, not noisy campsite. This is not to say no children as there were a few families camping when we were there with well behaved young children. However,
We felt the owners have it exactly right for the site location and what the area provides.
Extremely highly recommended for a quite get away !

Stayed here Easter bank holiday, very clean and tidy camp site. Lots of development work going on in preparation for the season, both on pitches and what looked to be a second toilet & shower block, but didn't impact on stay whatsoever.
We really liked this site it was quiet and chilled out, albeit it wasn't too busy due to the colder weather. I expect in the height of season there could be some queuing for showers & toilets.
At present there is only two showers and 3/4 toilets in the ladies and I believe similar in the gents. With over 100 pitches that could be interesting!
The site is only a 10 minute walk from the town, which was perfect! Not to mention the plentiful walks from site which we had gone for!
Definitely a site that we would re-visit and recommend, we tried this as an alternative from our usual site in Beddglert, think this is our favourite!

What a gem of a campsite this is, we were recommended this campsite by a friend who had seen whilst out walking in near by.
We arrived on a rainy Saturday afternoon and were greeted by the warden, a dn once checked in he gave walked around to where he thought the best pitch for us would be (due to the incoming weather forecast) and this turned out to be ideal, only a short walk from the toilet block and wash up area.
The pitches are not very level or well marked out but do have electric hook ups.
THe toilet block is clean and tidy, and although locked at night there are four toilet cubicles outside.
The warden/ owners were very nice and helpful and would always stop and chat to us if we were sitting outside our tent.
The walks around the area are superb as is Beddgelert (about a 10min walk way by the river). I think we had a drink in all of the pubs in the village and tea and cake at the cafe.
The campsite has a lovely walk to the copper mine and over the hills which is stunning.
The campsite at night was very quiet and clear skies and no street light glow made star gazing amazing.
This is one campsite we will definitely be going back to as the walks around the area are superb.

We stayed for 3 nights at this site. On arrival as the site wasn't busy we were given the option of any pitch we fancied. We went for Pitch 92.
We were close to the main toilet block which was always clean and warm. The showers were quite large, but could do with a stool of some sort in them for drying feet etc! Showers are of the push button variety. There was a hairdryer for 20p and also a socket that you could plug straighteners in to this also cost 20p. Plenty of washing up sinks, also a payphone and laundry.
There is another set of toilet/showers but these are in portable cabins, but did look very clean and tidy.
The pitches are a little higgledy piggledy, you cant really see where they start and finish with some of them. Also, the grass needed a good cut. Apart from that cannot fault the site and the staff were lovely.
The site is very quiet once 10pm comes, also make sure you have a torch as it is a very dark site. No radios or music allowed or fires. No Mobile Phone reception, until you get halfway towards the village.
The walk to Beddgelert along the river took about 15 mins which was very nice, the dog loved it.
We ate at the Saracen's Head, it was an okay meal but if you have kids or a dog you are limited to where you can sit. There are other pubs, cafe's and a pizza place so plenty of choice. The shops are nice, bought a few nice bits and bobs!
All in all a lovely site and we will hopefully get another visit soon.

Another gem of a campsite! We were unsure about the exact dates we wanted to stay due to family commitments; however the people I spoke to on the phone were very understanding and helpful, nothing was too much of a problem.
We met with the warden and told him that we wanted a quiet spot, he pointed us in the direction of quieter areas, although the site does have a no noise policy (it was quiet when we stayed, a previous reviewer mentioned it wasn't during his stay); we chose a spot right by the Glaslyn and it was fantastic, even in the rain, not often that you get to watch dippers fishing whilst eating your breakfast!
Word of advice - we needed to buy hard ground pegs to pitch the tent securely, they sell them in the shop or go to Gelert in Beddgelert.
The facilities were clean and well maintained (although mops and a mirror in the showers would be good), with 2 blocks containing the usual showers, toilets and potwash.
The site was very busy over the bank holiday weekend, but not crammed to capacity - we still had plenty of space; however some areas did look busier but I guess this was due to hook ups and people wanting their car right next to their tent.
There was very visible warden presence over the weekend, even to the point where they were filling the toilet cisterns up with buckets of water when the water usage was very high first thing in the morning - other sites wouldn't have bothered!
Although there was some heavy rain we were reassured that the water levels are monitored continuously and although the river level rose, it soon went down again.
Other campers mentioned mosquito problems - we lit mossie coils each night (available from Gelert Warws), sprayed anti-mossie spray and didn't get bitten once.
We stayed an extra night due to the great location - we climbed Snowdon, did numerous walks from the Ffestiniog Railway, walked along the Aberglaslyn Pass.
It's a pleasant 10 minute walk to Beddgelert where there are pubs (Royal Goat does local ales, the others don't) and a few places to eat - at Glandwr Cafe you can take your own wine and have one of their fantastic pizzas!
We both loved the site and were very sorry to leave, even the dubious weather didn't dampen our stay!

Beautiful location and site- own choice of pitch on arrival- very friendly, helpful, on site staff. -riverside walks from site, easy and straight into town or on mountain walks and copper mine -facilities clean - exciting early hours for some campers when, following a very wet, windy day, the river rose and those camped directly on its banks had to move very quickly-no casualties just a tale to tell to friends. No play area- but plenty of things to do without. Beautiful peaceful holiday on a fantastic site- would return.

If you want peace and quiet in an amazing mountain location, this is your place. It is incredibly well run and the facilities are spotless. It seems as if there is a 24 hour cleaner. We have never been in a not clean toilet/shower. We've stayed here 4 or 5 times since 2008 between April and August and we're always pleased with our stay.
Obviously you have to take into consideration the North Wales weather but as the notice board has a very accurate weather forecast from the local weather station you can make your decisions accordingly.
The walks from the site are some of the best we've done. Beddgelert and some good places to eat and have a few beers are only 15 a minute stroll ( in flip-flops) along a pretty lane and then path along the river.
Although we usually avoid sites that welcome children and dogs (because they generally get up much earlier than us and can be quite noisy) this is not a problem here. The site managers do speak to anyone who is too noisy (only once since we've been there and that was a dog barking constantly whilst the owner was in the shower).
Negatives; midges - but then again you are by a river (and we find it much less bothersome on the otherside of the site and you could get those head netty things we saw a couple wearing! Or just use insect repellent. )
