We stayed here for one night with the campsite closing for the winter on Sunday.

We were informed we could pitch anywhere - either hard standing or on the paddock. So chose the latter. By Sunday morning it had rained and we could not drive off the site as the grass was too wet. After failing to shift the camper we called at reception where the gray haired man who I assume owns the site got very angry and said we we're 'unbelievable'. When he eventually came round on his sit on lawn mowing tractor he got us out in no time at all but again started ranting that we were unbelievable and began to hurtle abuse at us. He obviously has no customer care and believes he can speak to customers however he sees fit. I was so appalled by his behaviour that I told him he needed to attend customer care training and that I'd inform friends and family to steer clear from the campsite. People like him should not come into contact with customers as he obviously lacks the nuance and skills needed for dealing properly with paying guests.

We won't be going near this place again and I'd urge you to do the same!

Just stayed here for a week, this is the second time I have visited. The camp site itself is very big, and you can find some nice areas away from all the hussle and bussle of it all! the security of the site is excellent, with a barrier system for vehicles, you can rest assured nobody can just walk into the site.

The shower blocks were warm and very clean, however, opening at 7. 00am is a little late, especially when you want to get going fairly early in the morning, also, locking the showers at 10. 00 meant I had to brush my teeth elsewhere, which was a shame.

Their rules stated no noise, which is fine, as camping is all about the peace and quiet, however, they did not seem to mind, when Cae Du had plant machinery going fairly early in the morning (I believe they are making the site even bigger) Saturday evening the digger was going until 7:30pm, which made a mockery of their no noise rule. Apart from this hick up, I would recommend Cae Du for all, it is close to Beddgelert, which means you can walk easily into the village.

Staff are very friendly indeed, and can give you directions for local walks etc, and the Tourist info is based in Beddgelert.

Overall I would definitely stay here again, but will next time look for a quieter area of the campsite!

This was our third trip to cae du this year, you cant fault the location, its a ten minute walk to beddgelert with stunning views all around. The facilities are top notch with a new shower block opened up although I don't see the point of not having toilets in the shower block, a little bit disconcerting for the ladies I should imagine, us men not putting seats down etc. The only complaint I have is the attitude of the wardens, friends of ours were in our tent having a quiet drink and a talk and a voice informed us'it was gone ten oclock you know'. Well we did know but we didn't know it was against site rules to talk, but nothing was done about the dogs that were yapping all night just across from us, don't get me wrong I like dogs, got one myself but don't want to hear them all night, so wardens get a grip dogs can bark but we cant talk?. We arnt teenagers by the way we are all in our late forties and early fifties. Needless to say we will not be returning I will pay someone else for the use of their facilities and a bit of customer courtesy, remember people we pay your wages in the long run. The noise ban I agree with but not at ten pm and not banning talking from ten pm onwards.

Just returned from a lovely week at this campsite.

When you first enter the campsite and go to reception, it looks a bit over-regulated, with barriers and lots of metal fencing round the entrance, but once inside it is much more laid back.

If you don't have electric hook-up you can choose to pitch anywhere in the non-electric parts of the site, and these gave a variety of different types of pitch (open or wooded, next to the river, near to or far from the facilities).

Cars are kept on the access roads to each section, with low wooden barriers to separate them from the tent areas: a nice change from being forced to park your car in a set position right next to or in front of your tent. Electric hookups also seemed to have some choice of pitching space, with grass or hard-standing areas.

The site has a no music or radio policy, no groups, and quiet time from 10pm, so is a very quiet site. Indoor facilities are locked at 10pm so this may help to reinforce this, although it does mean that you have to race to make sure you're through the showers or inside wash-basins in time.

There are two toilet blocks - one next to the reception, and one which is partly built which is nearer to most of the non-electric pitches.

The reception toilet block has an inside laundry with washing machine (£2), tumble dryer (£1. 50), and large freezer for ice blocks. There are 6 outside washing up sinks and 3 outside toilets (ie cubicles open directly to outside with no inside sinks). The ladies (and presumably the mens) has 2 showers, 3 toilets and 5 hand-basins.

The partly built block currently has a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer, 4 outside washing up sinks, and 4 outside toilets, and 2 outside hand-basins (cold water only). The ladies (and mens) has 3 showers and 4 hand-basins.

The outside loos and washing up sinks are available at all times, other facilities are locked between 10pm and 7am.

All the toilets were well-equipped with toilet roll, the hand-basins in the reception toilet block have soap and paper towels but those in the part-built block does not.

The only improvement I would have liked is for the outside toilets to be cleaned more often - they seemed to get a bit smelly at times. This may be just because of the use they are getting, and may improve once the toilet blocks are finished. The outside toilets also have plenty of spiders, if that worries you.

Both blocks have drinking water taps, the partly-built one has a chemical disposal point, and there is a motorhome service point. There is one further drinking water tap in the area furthest from the toilet blocks.

Showers are the push button type with no temperature adjustment, but were about the correct temperature every time I used them. There is no separator between the changing area and shower area, but the shower-head is angled such that I didn't splash anything I put on the shelves or hooks provided, and there is a long-handled squeegy in each cubicle.

There was no official children's playground, but there was plenty of space, and there were a few rope swings and climbable trees which the older children seemed to be enjoying. Parents of young children with exploratory tendencies need to be aware that there is a river running through the whole site and a large pond at the edge of the site which are not fenced off in any way.

There are cycle racks by the reception, and the wooden barriers between areas are also suitable for locking bikes to. The reception has a small shop, and there is a grill each Thursday (which we didn't sample, so don't know what it's like).

Open fires are not allowed, barbecues on stands are and they have put the UKCampsite.co.uk warning posters everywhere to remind people not to take barbecues inside tents or awnings.

The campsite is in easy walking distance of Beddgelert via footpaths and a single track road so you don't have to walk along the main road.

What a location! Beautiful campsite in a mountainous landscape. Facilities are the best, £20 a night with electric for 2 people and a tent but its worth it.

It is a large campsite so probably always have space for you. Beddgelert is a short walk down the river or road, handful of pubs, cafe's and a little convenience shop.

Climb a mountain and have a drink. Don't go in to Porthmadog its a dump! Many thanks to the owners of Cae Du.

Stayed here for a long weekend during one of summers many wet/stormy periods,

However, having said that; we enjoyed the time spent there in what is a very friendly, spacious, clean well run site.

The village of beddgelert only a 10 minute walk along the river, plenty of eat places, few pubs, the lovely railway & walks to last a lifetime.

We were not able to fit in all we wanted to do and will therefore return next year for a longer stay

 First, the pluses.

Nice location, lovely mountain views all around. Beddgelert is tiny but lovely. Brilliant easy walks alongside the river, with large open areas for flying kites or throwing balls for the dog etc. Short walk from campsite (less than 15 mins), along a quiet lane and a riverside path gets you to the village.

Shower facilities, when available, were good and kept clean.

Nice little shop in reception sells basic essentials, and ladies on reception very pleasant. The warden named Alex was also a lovely man very helpful and friendly, asked how our days out had been etc etc, gave us tips for places to go etc.

However, there were a few negatives that I feel I must mention.

This site felt a little run-down to us in places. First part of site, near reception is ok (perhaps this is where other reviewers were staying), but 'back' part facilities we felt were very much lacking for the price they charge. There are only 4 toilets, all unisex, and these are outside rather than in the main shower block. We had a lot of rain while we were there (it is Snowdonia, after all), so apart from the fact that you had to queue for the loos in the rain, the toilet floors were perpetually wet, (hence the hems of your trousers or pyjamas got wet unless you were careful!) slippery and covered in grass. They also smelled very bad at times. The ladies in our party did not enjoy sharing toilet facilities with male strangers, many of whom were not 'well trained' in the art of aiming carefully and putting the seat down afterwards!

There was also no soap provided for hand washing, either in the tiny outside (and rather grubby) handbasins, or in the main shower block.

Shower blocks were locked at 10pm. This was very inconvenient if you wanted to brush your teeth before bed. Hence, lots of people brushing their teeth (and washing hands with no soap) in the sinks used for washing up. This is extremely unhygienic, we felt.

The grass was very long (4 or 5 inches), and the gravel 'driveways' overgrown with weeds, and not maintained. Site was poorly drained, and after a lot of rain the ground was completely waterlogged, soft and muddy, in fact our campervan ended up sitting in about 2 inches of water (even on hardstanding) every time it rained.

If you have a caravan or motorhome with full facilities, this site is probably great. But if you want to use the on-site facilities, particularly after 10pm, I'd go elsewhere.

Does Cae Du in Welsh mean 'Heaven'? It should du. This is our 5th visit now. We all just love it here. Two adults, three children, 15, 13, 12 and two dogs. Set in Snowdonia, with mountains all around. It has the Afon Glaslyn river to one side. A small play, tree swing area for the younger children. (Away from the river bank). The owners and staff are on hand all the time, unobtrusive and reassuring. They are really nice friendly people. The male owner's jokes are entertaining. The ablusion facilities are well maintaned and kept very clean. The camp security is good, there are two security gates/barriers, closed at 2200hrs and reopened at 0700hrs. The famous Moel Hebog towering over the site with Yr Aran and Yr Wyddfa not far away. You can walk to each from the camp site. There are other not so energetic walks nearby also. Once the car is unloaded and parked, you can say goodbye to it until you depart. There is a strict no noise ruling in place on site, (especially after 2200hrs). The owners and staff are keen to ensure that campers comply. And it is this ruling that helps to make Cae Du that extra special. So peaceful and calm. Many a mid morning or late afternoon whilst reading, sat in the sun. All I can here, (in the distance) is the whistle of the steam train from the Welsh Mountain Railway. Well worth a visit or the odd screech of a buzzard circling the skies above.

The village of Beddgelert is only 10 minute walk away, no roads, straight along the river bank. The Gelert Icecream parlour has become almost a daily visit! Porthmadog is only 20 mins in the car. Most of the tent pitches are flat, with or without electricity. Midges can be a nuisance, be warned! The tent pitches are grass, some are a bit stoney. Make sure you have plenty of tent pegs. The site is dog friendly with a good walking area, just beyond the entry barrier. You need to make sure they are kept on a lead on site. Quite rightly so. We will be back to Cae Du soon.

Just returned from a 5 night stay. Despite pretty horrendous weather we still enjoyed our time at Cae Du. The site is well spaced out and despite being full felt very spacious and we were not crammed in.

The owners and staff are friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Children are made to feel welcome. Despite the site being full at the beginning of the week it was still generally peaceful by 10. 30pm. They had a lovely huge brazier fire on Jubilee Tues (late evening) on a field over the way from the site and the kids let off chinese lanterns. Everyone got into the spirit of things with plenty of union jacks and red, white and blue around - it was lovely.

The facilities are immaculate and well maintained. Despite the peak time of our visit I only queued for the shower once (5 minute wait). The showers are a good size with a well placed shelf and plenty of door hooks. Plenty of space to shower and dry 2 children as well as myself. There are plenty of dish washing spaces located outside (but undercover) with hot water.

There is a laundry room with a washer (the site shop sells wash tablets) and a coin operated dryer which was very much needed given the amount of rain we had! There is also a free chest freezer available for all if you need to freeze ice blocks (or in our case quickly chill a few beers!).

You will not get a mobile phone signal here at all, which is not a bad thing!

I do need to warn you about the midges though. I had read reviews on here and thought 'yeah. Midges. You get that. No problem', but seriously there are midges! I am talking thousands of Rambo Turbo Midges who can and will eat you alive so please be prepared. I have at least 36 bites despite wearing descent repellent daily. They were around morning, noon and night (not all the time but descend without warning!). My advice would be to take plenty of insect repellent, put it on before you arrive so you don't get caught out putting the tent up (mistake number 1 for me). Apply first thing in the morning before you get out of the tent and re-apply in the evening and again before bed. Make sure you apply to 'unexposed' areas too (my worst bites are around my sock line despite having trousers on and on my back around the waistband area). Don't forget your face / hairline too.

The site is on the expensive side (£27. 50 pn for 2 adults and 2 children on EHU)but it is worth it for the location. You could not ask for better. Beautiful scenery with plenty of walks from the campsite. Gentle 10 - 15 minute stroll into Beddgelert along a safe path route so ideal if you have little ones. Plenty of pubs, cafes and an amazing icecream shop in Beddgelert.

All in all a gorgeous site and I would definitely go back again. Unfortunately by husband is going to need some convincing as the midges really did put him off.

Stayed 3 nights over Bank Holiday weekend.

One of the best sites we have stayed on in last few years and this was due to the owners and staff being very friendly and nothing was too much, and all very sincere.

There are 2 lots of showers blocks now, one recently opened, yes the buttons are annoying when you have to keep pressing them to stay on but cant complain, free, lots of room, clean and hot. They could do with few more toilets as there are 4 next to the showers away from main reception area were more toilets are and bit old fashioned but once again always clean and wardens checking them all the time. Camp site was full and did not have any problems waiting for toilets and showers, due to location most were up early and out for walks.

Midgies were an issue later at night, we did get quite a few bites so ensure you take sprays and relief cream with you. This has not put me off going back as it was lovely place surrounded by mountains and only 10 mins walk around the lake to the small village which was lovely.
