We spent some time on this great camping site this summer. Lovely surroundings. The toilets and showers were few and far away. Some noise from the nearby road and lots of nasty midges. Location is great for exploring Wales. The only serious complaint we have concerns the unfriendly staff.

We have just got back from a ten day holiday at this site and we had a great time. It did included the August bank holiday so I was expecting it to be rammed but the owners keep numbers down which means you always have loads of personal space. The music ban seemed a bit severe but as we could not pick up any radio stations it didn't matter so much. Yes, there are only two showers in the women's loo block but to be honest if you ar'nt bothered about what time you take your shower then its not an issue, the showers are very big so me and my daughter took one together. I do find it amusing that people are not flexible, especially when camping and if they do not have their shower at 8.30 every morning it ruins their day also spending hours blow drying your hair only to go outside into the rain! Whats that all about? The griping about the showers got on my nerves.
The setting is beautiful, surrounded by mountains on all sides, a river, a lake and loads of walks. The fact it didn' have a kids playground was a good thing, who needs a man made playground when you have all that on your doorstep?
The walk to the village of Bedgellert is a short but picturesque one. The village has a great pizza place, a grocers/offlicence, post office, a couple of pubs and places to eat. It is so pretty, and being at the camp site was a bonus as parking in the village can be hard due to the day trippers that go there.
Very well positioned for touring Snowdonia and a short drive to Porthmadoc for a 24hour Tesco and the most amazing beach at Blackrock Sands.
What can I say, It peed down a lot! we had thunder lightening, midges and a leaking tent but we also had buzzards, owls, sunshine, dragonflies and a brilliant holiday.

Difficult to add a lot to previous comments. A great site with lots of space although level bits are at a bit of a premium. The toilet block was kept spotless although only two showers for each sex can mean a long wait at times. these are really only minor gripes, the owners are friendly and helpful and we had a good time helped by no phone or TV reception! We will definitely go again!

A lovely site. Very quiet at night. Toilets / showers were always spotless. Midges were about so take repellant - we used the wipes.

Tony & Paula are the perfect hosts, very helpful, especially when the car broke down.

The walk into town goes down a very quiet back lane, then onto a path beside the river. Watch out for the Gelert factory shop in town, you WILL spend too much.

We will definitely be back.

Myself my wife and our 2 children have just spent 9 days at Cae Du and cannot praise this idyllic site enough.

Situated justoutside Beddgelert in North Wales this site has it all, beautiful rural scenery, the crystal clear river Glaslyn running alongside with areas to paddle and swim, immaculately clean and well presented facilities including an abundant supply of free hot water, and 2 of the friendliest owners we have ever met.

Although we had unsettled and varying weather these guys went out of their way to ensure our stay was memorable, offering advice on places to visit, scenic walks, places to eat, and freezing our ice packs and for that we are very grateful to them.

Will definitely be returning to Cae Du 10/10.

This campsite has to have one of the friendliest welcomes ever. Really nice couple. You drive down off the main road, across a metal bridge and the very smart reception area and main toilet/shower block are to your right. Booking in is simple and quick. It cost us £14 per night (£9 single). You also pay £5 for a card to work the security barriers but this is refundable when you leave. The site is very large and has wonderful views. Finding a pitch is easy and you can chose your own. The midges are very active but you can buy 'Shoo' repellent in the grocers in Beddgelert and it works. No more midges. The toilets are very clean. There is a bit of a queue for the showers at peak times such as around 9.30 am but we went at 11.30 and walked straight in. The site is well run and allows no music etc hence it is very quite without the annoyances found on other sites. Beddgelert is a short walk away. If you want to stay in this area, this is the place to be. I will definitely be back.

Just got back from this site after a 6 night stay so many good points to mention. Some are: wonderful setting in a valley, good sized pitches, great dog walking area by the river which is so clear. The people who run the site are very helpful. It is spotless, very near the village, a short run to a supermarket. Very quiet no noise at night. Beaches in the area are clean and you can take dogs on in certain areas. The site has no play ground for children which was good for us but not everybody. The one drawback is the midges! Take lots of insect repellent as midges are rife. We had a great stay and will go back again. While we were there we had such hot weather I expect that helped but all in all it is a really good site one of the best

Spent one night, just myself and my husband at Cae Du campsite in July. We booked at short notice over the phone and the owner was incredibly friendly. I recommend going to the right hand side of the site because it's right by the road (something I hadn't realised) until we’d already chosen our pitch on the left. On saying that, it wasn’t a huge problem but it was noticeable.

There are only 2 showers for women and 2 for men, so there was a huge queue in the morning , but the site itself is very nice, you are not crammed in and you can pitch where you want (no numbers). Apart from the road noise (which isn’t all the time) it is incredibly quiet and peaceful with stunning views. It is very professionally run, the facilities in the main block are immaculate, there is a row of 4 toilets further into the site which are basic but very clean. I would recommend taking insect repellant.

The walk into Beddgelert itself is a fantastic walk, only half a mile or so (get them to give you directions when you arrive there's a back route much nicer than the road).

We ate at the Saracens Head Pub but it wasn't much to write home about, not bad but nothing special either, there are a few other places to eat so if we returned we'd try another place. I think we will return to Cae Du, as it's quite close to home, so handy for a weekend.

Truly a gem. We spent one week in the quiet peaceful paradise of Cae Du. With wonderful and extremely clean facilities (non-stop hot water) and a warming accomodating feel on arrival of this site was perfect for that peaceful tranquil get away. More importantly the site is large enough to feel safe but more than spacious enough to ensure you find your own piece of this delightful escape.

One word of warning take some midge repelent with you. Though that is the only complaint you can have.

Each morning we were greeted with great scenic views of snowdonia and our evenings spent relaxing in the beautiful village of Beddgelert just 10 minutes walk away. Everything is within easy reaching distance and just great for those wishing to make the most of rugged landscape and get those walking boots on. This would be my first choice site for North Wales and hopefully we will return soon to enjoy the delights of this almost perfect campsite.
