We were perhaps lucky to stay here when the weather was largely dry – but we had a great 6 days. We were glad to have pre-booked because they seemed to be turning away people who had not booked while we were there, and we had experience of this too a previous year.
We did not book any other sites in Scotland and had no trouble turning elsewhere later in our holiday, but it seems to be essential here in August.
We camped in the tent field under some trees near the bottom, but near the metalled road, just outside of the area that looked like a reclaimed marsh. (From what other people have written on here – the reclaiming has not worked too well. ).
Having read the reviews here before we left, we made sure to choose a spot without deep muddy ruts in it… The facilities were very good as far as we were concerned, although we did not have children with us and did not use the laundry.
The location was fabulous – Cairngorm mountain directly opposite, on the shores of the scenic Loch Morlich, with its beach and pinewoods. We hired bikes from the campsite one day and had a great time speeding down the wooded cycle track to Aviemore.
We even got back without too much trouble even though we are past the first flush of youth and not very used to riding bikes!
We were also fit enough to walk up Ben Macdui another day, although we were pretty tired coming back. Loch Garten and the osprey nest were also on our agenda for a trip from this site – and we had fantastic views of all 4 birds, together with crested tits and red squirrels.
The local shop is not that well stocked but, at least you wouldn’t starve. The nearby YHA does Fish and Chip suppers on Friday and Saturday night – and we made use of that.
The lack of retail facilities near the site, makes it more imperative to make the trip to Aviemore, and take plenty of cash for the multiple and very tempting row of Outdoor Activity shops they have.

We stayed at the glen more site for three nights in early august. We were travelling with another family who were staying in a camper van.
On arrival we were designated pitches which were a fair distance from each other, but the staff were very helpful in finding two pitches close to each other for us.
We were pitched in the forest, and although the ground was stony, pitching the tent didn't take any longer than normal.
We were pitched about a 2 minute walk from loch morlich, which had a beach and access to Watersports activities and cycle hire, all of which were reasonably priced.
The loch itself in in a beautiful location, and our kids had great fun on the beach, and paddling in the water. There was also a few people fishing, and I was on the beach on my own at 5. 15am for a couple of hours one day fishing. Not another soul was anywhere to be seen, sadly, neither were any fish.
The facilities were clean and the showers were always warm, and we had great weather so can't comment on the site when it is wet, but during the dry weather the biggest problem was midge's.
Make sure that you have plenty of insect spray. We had a great time and would definitely return to this site.

Visitied here for about the 8th time now. Weather for a change was excellent and the kids spent loads of time down by the beach.
Toilets are always spotlessly clean and staff were friendly. Decent stocked shop and superb walks or mountain bike tracks through the forest.
Great facilities and things to do at the loch which include, canoeing, kayaking or wind surfing. Kids loved feeding the ducks every night. Dry ski slope on site and mountain bike hire also available.
Reindeer centre across the road is great for the kids. Playpark although snmall is good but not much there for younger children. Forest rangers were doing loads of activities for the kids which went down very well
On the road back to Aviemore there is a great indoor soft play area and American style diner at the Hilton Coylumbridge. Things to do in Aviemore, include swimming pool, Soft Play Zone, Cinema and a great playpark at the MacDonald resort, Strathspey railway is a good day out and so is the Highland wildlife park at Kincraig. The mountain railway up the cairngorms is amazing and well worth a visit.
Lots of ski type activities in Aviemore and loads of bars and restaraunts. Decent sized Tesco's as well. Close by at Carr Bridge there is also Landmark forest theme park and the kids loved it.
We keep coming back to Aviemore and it is undoubtedly one of the best resorts in Scotland in both the Summer and Winter

We recently spent our family holiday at the Glenmore site.
Positives
The facilities are fantastic - very modern, very very clean. A pleasure to use.
The site is in a beautiful location and the on site 'beach' is stunning.
The staff were very friendly and helpful
The local area has fabulous entertainment facilities and activities to keep everyone from your to old happy.
Negatives
Unfortunately the draining on the site is awful. Whilst obviously the site team aren't in charge of the weather and the week we were there was very very wet, it IS a wet part of the world, in the lea of Cairngorm, and the site is frankly a complete mudbath.
The children's play area is plagued by midges.
As it was such a horrible week there were a lot of campers attempting to wash and dry clothes, bedding etc. There were only 2 washing machines for a large site, and half way through the week 1 washing machine broke leaving 1 washing machine. The site on a good week would benefit from 4 washing machines and that would have been far more reasonable on a wet week.
The 'just drive around and find a pitch' system wasn't very helpful - neither is not having marked pitches. We aren't very experienced campers but it was clear to us that the tent beside ours was taking over 2 pitches, and there was only 1 possible premium pitch for us to go on (we had booked and paid for a premium) and that was very very wet and muddy.
On the whole, we will absolutely return to the area but I doubt we would return to this site. It IS a very wet site and frankly the site cannot physically cope with the traffic etc on it when its wet. When we lifted our groundsheet we were met with the fact we had spent a week on top of a 5 inch deep puddle of mud.

Great site in a great location. Staff were pleasant and a staff member took regular walks around the site to ensure all was well.
We took a pitch in the forest which was close to the beach. Good weather when we were there and the place reminded us of Lake Garda in miniature.
Facilities are of a good standard and are cleaned regularly.
Aviemore has an abundance of activities and a good day out for kids is a visit to landmark.
Good discount available if caravan club member. Will be back to this site as we enjoyed it so much.

We spent a week here at the end of July. Facilities were clean and fairly new. The campsite was excellent for cycling and has loads of child friendly routes around the site and the Lock.
The beach was perfect for the children and you can also hirer boats/canoes which the children really enjoyed.
We fully enjoyed our stay and will definitely be going back next year. The children also went fishing.
Aviemore is a lovely town and there is loads for the children to do, Landmark was a huge hit. Fantastic

There is no denying the idyllic location of Glenmore - the beautiful beach at Loch Morlich is a stone's throw away, and the forest trails that surround the site are wonderful.
We stayed four nights. Myself, my husband and our three kids.
We chose a woodland pitch for its proximity to the beach. The ground was so stony it took us an age to pitch though. Lots of effort.
The toilet/shower and laundry and dishwashing block was great. Plenty of roomy shower cubicles with free hot showers 24 hours a day. Nice.
I'm not sure why the laundry had to be locked at 8pm though. Not much use for the family who has been out in the rain and mud all day and needs to put a wash on after dinner.
There is a strict no washing lines rule on site, which leads me to assume they really really want you to use their coin taking dryers instead. So it seems a real lose/lose situation all round.
Talking of mud and rain. We had a day of heavy showers and we were dismayed to see a large deep puddle growing by the hour and inching closer and closer to the tent door! Had the rain not stopped we most certainly would have had to beat a muddy wet bedtime retreat with three kids in tow.
I met a family who came back from a day out on the same day, to find their tent, which was pitched in the main field, completely flooded and their possessions floating about.
To my mind that can't ever be a positive. I cannot imagine what Glenmore staff were thinking of allowing a family with three children, to pitch on an area so prone to flooding! This is Scotland - it rains here.
One day of rain and it was a swimming pool. The family concerned were forced to spend the night in a nearby hotel at their own expense. Apology was by way of a pitch down near us instead. They really enjoyed pitching on the stoney ground as well.
Seems to me that the attitude is that the location is enough, and that customer service and pitch maintenance are not deemed necessary. I disagree. Would try somewhere else next time.

This site is in a fantastic location, and beautifully sited next to a loch. We stayed at this site for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. We have dogs and it was great to be able to walk down to the loch and let them have a good run on the beach. There is also direct access to miles of tracks through the forest, so for dog owners this site cannot be bettered. And there are well positioned dog waste bins which was really useful.
We had a pitch in the pinewoods, which I think is by far the nicest part of the site. However, there is no pitch reservation, it's done on a first come first served basis so I can imagine that in peak times you wouldn't get a pitch in the pinewoods as there are quite a few seasonal pitch holders there. Also, we found that there didn't seem to be an electric hook up for every pitch, so having found a pitch we liked, we had to move to another one where there was a spare electric hook up. Also, I'd recommend if you have a motorhome and go out in it during the day, you need to make it really obvious that the pitch is taken so someone else doesn't take it during the day. We left our electric cable, chocks, bikes etc. All over the pitch and that seemed to work! the Pinewoods area is perfectly quiet, I did notice that if you are pitched on the main site there is some traffic noise.
The toilet blocks are modern, stylish and immaculately clean. The only building work going on when we were there was very localised in one small area, so I assume the works that previous reviewers have complained about have finished. There certainly was no disturbance when we were there.
We had a really good cooked breakfast in the on site cafe, it's a quirky characterful little cafe with a balcony and lots of bird feeders so there was plenty of interesting bird life to watch (and really funky little birdhouses to admire!).
It was on this site that I had the absolute thrill of standing right outside my motorhome watching a red squirrel on a tree about 12 feet away from me, also we sat and watched deer browsing really close to us - wonderful.
The location of site is perfect for exploring the local area, the Cairngorm mountain railway is a few miles up the road, it's a quick trip into Aviemore, where there is a fantastic Italian restaurant - the serve yourself Pasta and Pizza buffet was an absolute delight.
The staff in reception were really friendly, and patient in explaining the vagaries of pitch allocation to me. I would definitely stay on this site again, but just wish it was possible to reserve pitches, I'd be disappointed to turn up again and find that all the pinewoods pitches with electric hook up were taken, as it is so lovely by the loch.

Location makes this our favourite campsite. The scenery & wildlife is just wonderful & the walks which can be accessed by strolling directly off the site make this hard to beat for us. Normally we choose much smaller sites but Glenmore is divided into a few areas with plenty of mature trees to help with privacy. Best of all for us is that you can camp in the pinewoods - accessed from the bottom of the main campsite areas & really feels quite separate - closer to the loch, much more privacy, very quiet - almost feels like like wild camping !
The toilets were very clean and nice showers each with it's own changing area & one of the 2 blocks is always open.
For those with disabilities & people with babies / toddlers it's worth noting that many of the wonderful walks in the Glenmore Forest Park are wheelchair friendly. There's so much to see & do here - walking, cycling, pony trekking & plenty for water sports enthusiasts. Funicular railway to go up Cairn Gorm, skiing. Almost endless list really
Negative points. Price of pitches is high. The actual pitches need improvement - though they were actually doing just that in one area - hopefully they'll carry on throughout as it needs it. Our (new) groundsheet was ripped in several places during our week there as the pinewoods pitches are very stoney. There are not enough bins for dog poop & they were not emptied enough - I had to ask. They could do with a communal fridge/freezer, most sites we've camped at do so & they charge a lot less than Glenmore.
That said we loved this place & can't wait to go back - the dogs agree !

We spent a fantastic 4 days at this site, spending all day in the great outdoors due to great weather. Firstly the bad bits! There is a lot of work going on at the site with big diggers etc during working hours. They have however, introduced an area of hard standings near the playground.
We chose to pitch in the pinewoods on the shore of loch and loved it. The pitch was just large enough for our caravan, awning and car. The pitches are well spaced giving you the feeling that you are in a real hideaway. We experienced no problems with midgies. The toilet block is modern and very clean. The children's play area is great - our 8 and 5 year old enjoyed playing there.
We spent most of our time out on the bikes and only used the car on one day of our stay. We cycled around the loch, down to Aviemore (7 miles along an off road track) and up to a smaller beautiful loch. All the trails are well maintained and you can buy route maps from the visitors centre which is just across the main road. The cafe there does wonderful cakes which are a bit pricey but worth it after a long bike ride!
We also visited the Landmark Park which is about 15 minutes away by car. Our 2 boys aged 8 and 5 had a wonderful day here. There are treetop trails, water slides, playgrounds, climbing walls, leap of faith, a maze and nature trails etc. Well worth the entrance price and even better when children go free with the caravan club's great days out tokens. Don't forget to leave time for the Bamboozeleum on your way out. We almost missed it but this was one of the bits our boys enjoyed best. It's packed full of illusions and magic!
We would have no hesitation in recommending the pinewood pitches at this site. It may be worth checking with the site as to whether the works have finished as the main site is not looking the best at the moment. I hope it improves as this is a site that I would like to visit again.
