Just back from glenmore. The weather was stunning [38 in car so had to be around 30], campsite was great too. Spend most of time down at the UKs highest inland beach [loch morlich near aviemore] with family, including 5 grand children. Had fantastic time. Little bother with midges. Only bad point, wasn't happy was with hard ground for trying to get pegs in, it was shocking and after moving twice we were asked to move again because of pointless 6 metre rule, considering smaller tents were as close to each other as 2 foot. Toilet blocks were clean and tidy. Didn't see playpark anywhere for kids which was silly, but beach made up for that. Will return but thought it was a bit too costly, we had family come to stay in our tent with kids and they were charged near 70 for 2 nights, because of this we will return to another site just along the road 4 mile its only half the price, but glenmore will still score high as it was nice place, nice staff.

This site is located through trees, close to stunning Loch Morlich with a backdrop of the Cairngorm mountains and a sandy beach to enjoy. Amazing location.
On site there are 2 large toilet blocks with showers. I had no issues.
There is an adventure playground. Kids can cycle to and for and ours really liked it. There is also a red squirrel playground with nature info!
There are recent hard standing pitches. Quite a lot. There is a nice stream running through the site with small bridges.
There is plenty to do in the area. You could be very busy if you wanted to with activities. We were there to relax this time round but I have been up the Cairngorm mountain on the funicular railway in the past, as well as visited reindeer house with excited young children and arranged a pony trek on the Rothiemurcus estate. (Staff great!_ Well kept stables) I also know people who have visited in the winter months and went on quad bikes in the snow with a guide who pointed out the wildlife. You really have to do your own research on the area as there are loads of activities.
There is a bar beside the site. Now this is a small, wooden basic bar with loads of character. There was live music on but really it is just a quaint, wee Scottish place. (Totally loved it!) I saw a red squirrel pass the window too. There is a tiny shop adjoined to it as well. Dogs were allowed in the bar and shop.
The only thing I will say is that we were there during the heat wave, slap bang in the middle of July. The site is in danger of slipping back. I suspect a good, enthusiastic staff team drafted in would benefit. I don't mean I am being negative about the staff. It was a lot of work for them (Its a large site) & I feel we were close to seeing this affect things. The key codes were overruled on the toilet blocks and the area was well-populated with day trippers who park in the nearby car park. Just bear in mind people may be walking through the site and using the play park (I don't think it technically belongs to the site) and possibly the facilities if they keep the entry to the shower block accessible to all.
I would recommend this site, we had a memorable stay & would return. It has so much going for it that it really must be well-run and appreciated by whoever owns and runs it.

Just back from a 2 week visit to this site I have been several times before. It is very obvious the site is government owned because the site is run like any local council. This site could and should be so much better in so many ways, the price they charge for little facilities and staff with council workers attitude is far to high £41/night ? for what rough small uneven rock pitches, the kids play area is rubbish. The site is in a super location so they are charging for that which I do not think is right. Back to the staff some could not do enough for you some could not care any less, but to be fair to them this site does have more that its fair share of ill mannered inexperienced travellers that show no respect for anything, I stopped my kids from playing on their bikes due to the speed of the cars and adults on mountain bikes who went full speed through the site, I also restricted the areas they could go in the site due to large vicious dogs that were not under control, these dogs barked all day, why do people think its ok for their dogs to run up to my kids? or pee on my awning? I saw the staff trying to deal with all these probs but the people did not care, the credit crunch has dumped many people with the benidorm mentality in our campsites which is ruining our holidays. Good campers and caravanners have a good amount of decorum and respect they keep their site clean their kids quiet and dogs under control. I hope these people go back to benidorm soon of learn manners and are taught what when in rome means, and learn when children are swimming not to paddle a canoe through them, and when they throw a ball out past the kids for their dog to run and dive into the water through the kids to retrieve it, the kids get terrified thinking the dogs are running at them. Some of the people with canoes and dogs at the loch acted like morons and upset people till tempers flared. Its the first time I was glad a holiday was over I will not be back to this site which used to be well run full of good travellers. A good strong firm well experienced warden would sort this site out

We chose this site due to being close to the cairngorm mountains and was part of our tour of Scotland. On arrival the staff appeared to be overworked or under staffed. The process of booking in was rushed with limited instructions from the staff. On route to being shown to our pitch the staff member constantly rebuked other campers for small infractions, eg having two cars parked on one pitch, hanging a washing line on a tree. I'm certainly one to abide by the rules but I felt embarrassed for the other campers to be humiliated so publicly there is certainly a better way to speak to paying customers. The site toilet block was clean but could have been slightly better. The site reminded me of a large housing estate with caravans that were obviously seasonal with wooden pallets in the awnings for wetter times. This with outdoor plants and furniture added to the housing estate feel. Children were un-supervised and left to their own devices, not good if you are trying to reverse a motorhome or caravan. An opportunity has been lost to create a site to cater for all, an area for seasonal pitches, an area for families and an area for non families (quiet area). The massive plus of this site is the location, situated in the forest next to the loch and the cairngorm mountains. Sadly of all the sites we stayed at whilst touring Scotland this one has too many negatives for me to return.

Stayed here for 3 nights when the temperature never got higher than 0 degrees. A very quiet site with loads of space between units although where we were the hardstanding pads were only just large enough for the caravan (and awning if we had it up), the car had to stand on the grass.
Next time we will try to get a pitch in the forest as these looked to be more spacious.
Great level walks from the van door through the forest and along the Loch side and a good visitor centre across the road. Very welcoming wardens but it did take us a while to work out that the site office was only open for 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening at this time of year.
The stand pipe taps had been turned off to stop them freezing, it would have been good to know this before we pitched and found that we had to cross a stream and walk a long way for water, hence 9/10 for facilities. Showers spotless and loads of hot water, no individual cubicles for washrooms.
We will definitely be back again.

Have just returned from a 5 night stay here.
This is a site in a cracking position half way up the road to the funicular railway. It has mountain bike/ walking trails galore on the doorstep and the highest beach in Britain that affords fantastic views [great if you are a keen photographer]
The facilities that we saw were top notch and absolutely spotlessly clean. We were here when it wasn't too busy so that helped a lot too.
There was plenty of space between the outfits and the site appeared way laid out. There appeared to be plenty of variety of pitches, some in the woods, some on the grass and plenty hard standing ones too [though was grateful we weren't pitched with the toilet block as our view].
The only downside for us was that we were placed in an area that was pretty water logged, which could detract for some. Thankfully I had booked us a hard standing pitch so we weren't wading too badly.
We spent time in the squirrel cafe as it is a must for us [every year we are in the area we stop here for lunch]. It is currently under going some renovation to include a bar, which will be an added bonus to some.
We will be back as this site ticks all our boxes.

Lovely site with good, clean & warm facilities and great location.
But a rule or additional cost for everything and staff were unhelpful and inflexible from the start.
We were charged £3 for arriving less than 2 hours early when site wasn’t full, the only shower block closed for 2 hours over lunchtime which isn’t good when you have kids and aren't in a caravan, they displayed a lack of empathy when our pitch flooded.
Despite the beautiful location we won’t be back to this site.

We have stayed at this site over the last few years.
The site is split into 3 areas a grass caravan and motorhome area a large general area and an area out in the woods facing on to Loch Morlich.
The site is in a beautiful location with stunning scenery. Every outdoor activity I can think of is on your doorstep and is true year round location.
The site is spacious and the facilities are very good with new toilet blocks and showers that are immaculate.
Shopping is 10 mins away in Aviemore where the shops restaurants, cafes, bars and supermarket will provide all you need.
The downside. A new manager has decided that there are no grass pitches for tents with electric hook up. They do provide 4 gravel pitches for tents next to the power distribution building. Tents wanting electric hook up are now no longer allowed in the woods. NB do not book a grass pitch with electric on line, there are none!
The tent area is the poorest part of the site an area that is prone to waterlogging with reeds growing in the field.
Another CCC operated site that appears to be running out of space for tents?

Stayed here for 5 nights in late September of 2012 in a tent. All in all was quite impressed with this site and the facilities provided there, good toilet-shower blocks with good washing up facilities and a good little laundry etc etc, all kept quite clean and tidy by the staff. Found the staff here to be good friendly and helpful when and if needed.
A few little gripes, the camping area-field for tents isnt level, and there arent many fresh water taps around, (had to walk quite a way to get fresh water), but nothings perfect. Loved the Red Squirrels that live on the site itself, many of them there, ten a penny, its the first time ive seen Red Squirrels in the wild.
The surrounding scenery is fabulous of course, mountains and forest and one loch next door, Loch Morlich, many good walks and mountain bike routes all around, and boat hire at Loch Morlich if you want it. There's a little cafe-shop up the road where you can get basic groceries and provisions, plus meals and snacks and so on, you can also get a shower there for a small fee if you need or want one.
If you don't feel like cooking in the evening you can go across the road to the hostel and get a cooked meal there, reasonable food and reasonable prices, (I tried them).
The bus stops right outside the entrance to the campsite, Aviemore in one direction and the Cairngorm Ski Resort in the other. I would recommend this site, I intend to go back for another stay next autum or winter.
