Arrived on Sunday afternoon; the office was shut! Notice said find a pitch and pay later.
Spent some time looking for a pitch that wasn't waterlogged. The drainage on this site is atrocious. Also most of the existing hard stands are about to be bulldozed to make way for static cabins.
Having said all that the location is fantastic. Loch Morlich is a walk through the trees; the Cairngorm range is to the back of you. With binoculars you can see the top of the funicular. Red squirrels play in the woods, and even come onto site. The local ducks have scrounging down to a fine art!
An hour after we sited it snowed - and did so every day! The area looked great, but the road up to Cairngorm was closed for two and a half days. We eventually got up there halfway through the week of our stay. All I can say is WOW! With snow on the hillsides, clear air (below zero) and incredible views - including of Loch Morlich and the campaite. Oh yes - the weather also kept the midgies at bay!
Facility blocks are new this season - courtesy of a joint venture with the Camping Club - and would be immaculate if people made the effort to keep them so. One was closed throughout our stay, despite 40+ units on site, leaving some units with a long walk in poor weather and ground conditions.
Useful little shop just outside the entrance; does a nice breakfast too! Cairngorm visitor centre is opposite the site, with the Reindeer centre next door. Trips to see the reindeer herd leave every day at 10.00 & 2.00 (latter summer only). They looked really at home in the snow, but beware that the path down the hillside to them can be difficult in such conditions.
Aviemore 'town' is nine miles down the road and has all the usual tourest facilities, as well as a big Tesco and a chemist, and numerous outdoor clothing shops. The Strathspey steam railway also operates from the back of the local railway station. There is a local brewery too!
This is definitely the best site in the area - as long as it stays dry.

Arrived late afternoon to be met by cheery and helpful staff in reception. Had a drive round the site as advised to get a feel of the place and to select a pitch; plenty of choice.
The toilet and shower blocks are new, very clean and spacious with the local radio station on in the background.
The location is excellent with beautiful Loch Morlich just a couple of minutes walk away and Aviemore a few miles down the road.

The first thing you notice when you arrive is the pitch isn't selected for you, so you can spend time on choosing the best pitch, when we did that we found some of the site waterlogged the staff were putting gravel down in certain areas. If you like a secluded site they have pitches in the woods or like to be in the open they have pitches for you. They have a stream that flows through the site (rained for two days and never rose dramatically) and onto loch morlich. Highly recommend walking around the loch as ducks and geese frequent as well as a heron which fishes in the stream.
The toilets are newly built and are the best standard I've ever seen, had to use the toilet during the night and noticed when I approached no lights on I could imagine spending ages searching for a switch when immediately the lights came on sensor detects movement.
Shop and cafe next door great for essentials and because the mountain has buses servicing it plenty of buses go by or you could cycle as a cycle path runs most of the way to the mountain.
Would highly recommend a trip up the funicular in the summer on a nice day as well as in winter for the snow.
If it had been nicer weather and I had my tripod for my camera I would have taken pictures of the scenery.

Excellent friendly staff, fab toilet and shower facilities.
Great spaced pitches for tents which was a god send as we had a family of six next to us who forgot the tent are not sound proof in the morning. The forest and fantastic beach are on your doorstep it is amazing.
Just make sure your prepared for the midges (skin so soft lotion)

What an interesting site. Recently upgraded facilities are as good as anywhere. Pitches may be a wee bit worn as they are well used.
Located just off the road from Aviemore to Cairngorm mountain, which is itself worth a visit. Take the funicular up the mountain and enjoy the trip, view and exhibition.
The site is virtually on the sandy shore of loch Morlich. Stunning 'beach'; cool, clear and SAFE water. Good children's adventure playground.
Shops and supermarket in Aviemore (9 miles) Plenty to do on site, just off site; or in surrounding area.
You WILL come back.

My 7 year old Son and I visited Glenmore Campsite in July. We were fortunate as the 3 nights we spent there were the hottest in the Highlands for some time. Anyway on arriving we were greeted by friendly staff, were booked in quickly and given all the info on the site we needed. There seems to be some set pitches on the site but generaly its a 'go and find yourself a spot 6 metres from anyone else'. We spent about 30mins driving round the site and struggled to get a level pitch, this I may add is our only gripe. We had enquired several times during our stay for electric hook up, but we were always advised that they were fully booked, from what we could see there were plenty of available power points with pitches. We were charged 50p daily to charge our laptop. Don't mean to moan. The area was fantastic, the beach is a 2min walk through the woods, we hired a canoe on 2 occasions, there are fantastic woodland walks, loads to explore in the area, Landmark is def worth a visit as well as the train ride up the Cairngorms. There were 2 toilet blocks both immaculate, the shop was well stocked, bit pricey. This is the first time we have camped in the Aviemore area and will def be back, not sure if we would return to Glenmore, simply due to the level of the ground.

We stayed here for 2 nights, it was very nice, clean site, with plenty of open space, you can choose your pitch when you arrive. The toilets and showers were obviously quite new and were very clean and spacious. A very short walk through the woods brings you to a beautiful beach where you can enjoy watersports or just have an ice cream! In another direction, a short stroll through the woods brings you to a shop and cafe, which was very nice, we sat and watched the red squirrels and birds eating from the nut boxes outside of the cafe windows, whilst enjoying a very nice coffee and cake. Although we didnt have a meal, all of those I saw served were freshly cooked and looked very nice. Just opposite, there is the Glenmore visitors centre and a reindeer walk. A short drive further along the road and we caught the Cairngorm Mountain Railway to the top of Mount Cairngorm, now that was breathtaking. Aviemore is a short drive in the other direction and is very nice with shops including a small Tesco and a steam railway. Midges were a nightmare unless you have repellent, even came through the fly screens on our windows and vents, an electric repellent (similar to those used abroad!) would be very useful. I am still scratching now! It was definitely worth it though.

The greatest thing about this campsite is the proximity of the amazing beach. The worst, is as everyone else has said, the midges.
For those of you for whom camping is not about being in a wide open field with hundreds of other tents / caravans in close proximity, this would be the ideal site. With trees and a cluster-like layout, the campsite is broken into smaller more intimate and more private spaces, so if chosen carefully, you're camping alongside around six others, but not a hundred. They also have a fantastic wooded pitching area for more seclusion and the feeling that you are camping out in the woods. However, that's where the most midges are!
Sites are self-allocated upon arrival. And the only instruction I was given was 'See them things? (referring to electric hook up post). You can camp anywhere, just don't park near one of them.' After giving a puzzled look for further clarification, I got, 'It's easy, camp anywhere, just don't park near one of them things. Stay away from them things.' Still looking a little confused, I got a reiteration to stay away from them things and a further instruction to leave 6 metres between us and whoever was next to us. It was easy enough, and on my second visit, I'll be a dab hand.
Oh, and the toilets and showers (and there are plenty of them) are clean and spacious.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at Glenmore (husband and 2 kids aged 7 and 5). Lovely site, quiet and peaceful with stunning views of the Cairngorms. Kids loved the play park in the woods and toilet / washing facilities very clean and fresh. All the staff were cheery, pleasant and very helpful. Shop and cafe are very good and reasonable priced, however the Glenmore visitor centre and cafe across the road from the main entrance to site, is quite expensive for the portion you get! Lots of lovely walks in the woods and Loch Morlich only a 5 minute walk, where you find a beautiful beach and water sports (£15 for hire of life jackets, paddles and a 6 person boat for 1 hour) Take the car and explore the surrounding areas, lots to see and do for all ages. An excellant site for a family camping holiday.

First time camping since I was kid, and a definite first for the rest of the family. The facilities are great, with two modern toilet blocks that were cleaned regularly. There is a small well equipped shop with cafe just off site, and a fantastic play area just hidden in the woods. It is well placed for outdoor activities within the Cairngorms, and plenty of other things to do around Aviemore. Make sure not to miss going to the beach by the loch, the view are magnificent. If it is raining be aware that the area is prone the dreaded midges (I was eaten alive!)
